Looks like the signup went pretty fast ! A few topics that I wanted to highlight to all of you: 1) You need to make sure that your car is 100% in technical fit condition: recovering a broken vehicle in Liwa is an absolute enormous task which will take hours and in some cases we might have to just leave it behind. Please be aware of the long journey and the extreme stress your vehicle will undergo in this terrain. Get your vehicle FULLY inspected before joining this adventure. Make sure fluids, battery, spare wheel, and brakes are in optimal condition. If your vehicle already shows signs of slight overheating from regular Fewbie drives please do not join this drive. 2) We will be driving in dunes which are more than 200m high and this also involves coming down steep slopes. If you are currently Fewbie and struggle with fear of heights in Pink Rock or Fossil Rock, I would advise to think this through. Safety is our main focus but nevertheless we need people to stay calm and listen calmly to instructions as there is only little margin for human errors. 3) More than anything, you need to be realistic in what your vehicle can do and choose the number of passengers wisely. If we see an underpowered vehicle with 4 adult persons inside and stuffed with camping gear, we will not allow you to join. This terrain will require a lot from your vehicle, and traveling light with minimum passengers will make sure your underpowered vehicle can survive this.

Dear desert loving friends. Let's get ready for tomorrow first drive with Carnity. To start with the right foot, please make sure all of you have watched the video briefing, and read the Covid's warnings and rules, linked to the drive's post. You will be asked again tomorrow if you have done as requested, and in case you hadn't, you will be asked to do it before you are allowed to join the drive. Secondly, make sure your car is equipped with the minimum requirements, also indicated in the drive's post. The most important of which, is the presence of tow points (either hooks or eyelets) both at the front and back of your cars. Lacking these, we will be forced to send you back, as the tow points are essential in recovering your car, in case the need arises. With these things having been taken care of, you'll be all set to start your off-roading experience with Carnity. One of our goals, and something we are proud of, is the desire to show you all different aspects of the UAE's deserts, always searching for new locations to visit. This drive will be conducted in one of such locations: the Bab al Shams sector of the Qudra basin (which is part of the Al Marmoon Conservation area). While most clubs focus their drives in the area closest to Al Qudra Parking, and the Qudra Lakes, we have chosen to drive a less visited area, to the south-west of the much used (and abused) entry point. We hope you'll appreciate the effort we make to offer you a different and less crowded desert experience. This area is also ideal for a first, Absolute Newbie, drive: it's characterized mostly by long range and relatively low dunes, with very few, far apart areas of tighter, more challenging, dunes. Here you can safely start learning how to conduct your car on a sand surface, the first notions of how dunes are "made", the basics of straight crossing them, and basic skills on how to ride slopes. The most important take-aways from this introductory drive should be; 1) NOT fighting gravity, and 2) building and using momentum, while driving on sand. Dear @syed salman raza, I have almost only flown DJI drones (all types, including bigger ones not mentioned here) so I can advise onky on those, even if there are surely other good ones from other brands. The best small camera drone is certainly DJI Mavic2 Pro (1" CMOS, 10bit color range), but it is an expensive toy and probably a bit too much sophisticated for regular use as a desert aircraft. You may go for a DJI Mavic Air 2 as a 2nd option, great value for money (half the price of the Pro) even if very light (570g vs 910g for the Pro) so not very stable in windy conditions (but when there is wind in fhe desert you are unlikely to be there enjoying the sand in your eyes...). This is probably your best choice. You may also find good 2nd hand DJI Phantom 3 for bargain prices, as it is an old model, now replaced by the Phantom 4. More rugged than the Mavic series (no foldable arms) so better for desert use, slightly heavier (thus a bit more stable and surely better in stronger winds), even if a bit bulky. Obstacle avoidance is limited. The DJI Phantom 4 is a heavy duty all-round drone, very good but equally or more expensive than the Mavic 2 Pro. Not a starter's option. I wouldn't recommend the DJI Mavic Mini: not really a drone for wide range desert spaces, in my opinion Personally I prefer by far the Phantom Series because of the more ergonomic remote control, which allows for more refined maneuvering (Mavic's are too small and light) but I may be biased by my professional needs. In a nutshell: either a Mavic Air 2 (best value for money) or a 2nd hand Phantom 3 (a bit old ans bulky, but rugged and inexpensive). I hope it helps.

Hi Varun, As you have mentioned it up front we can accept it for this week's drive, but it is basic offroading equipment that every driver should have. If we need to dig you out tomorrow, rest assured, we will sanitize out shovels and give you the pleasure of digging See you in the morning.

I was able to buy a Phantom Pro 3 secondhand two years back which was only used twice. I've done some flights and got it registered but because it's so bulky i've been afraid to take it with me on the desert drives.

@Martin Kasa you can join drive along with your family. For Absolute Newbie drive we provide spare radio to use and from second drive onward you need to get your own radio and folding shovel in also fine for this drive. Please go through the grading structure for minimum requirement

Its interesting not to overlook this for the new as well as experienced drivers 🚙 The reason why I am opening this topic is stemming from the fact that one of the major causes of neck and back pain is more or less related to the wrong driving seat position especially for those who drive long distances on daily bases. we drive every week an average of three hours if not more with full concentration and I believe this has an impact. Comfortable seating position is one of many ways how to overcome this problem which needs separate topic. I readjusted mine recently , and It made a big difference to me , have you ?!

A big thank you and a hearty welcome to this Friday’s Fewbie Level drive in Bab Al Shams, where the sand is so bright you gotta wear shades. Here’s a little amuse de bouche to wet your appetite. The meeting point is adjacent to the cycle track, if you move further along you will see a wide open space where we can deflate and ready ourselves for our adventure. We will follow a track for a very short while, which will lead us to the sparkling sands and wide open dunes of Bab Al Shams . The aim is to play amongst these dunes, slowly zig zagging our way to Solar Park where we can safely inflate. If the opportunity presents itself, then we can practice some ridge riding and perhaps criss-crossing. We may also encounter some small patches of technical dunes However, that is entirely dependent on you and how well everyone is driving/feeling. We like to cater for all tastes at Carnity therefore driver feedback will help shape the route, but only if your maître d' is in good humour. 😉 The convoy numbering is as follows: 1. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

My 3 Dirham on this... I removed the spare wheel, drilled two holes on its metal support, bolted on 2 stainless steel eyes, put the wheel back on. I then put the flag pole from the top through the two eyes, friction with the wheel rubber keeps it in place, never had a problem. Total investment 3 AED (1.50 AED / eye+nut). This applies to pre-2007 Pajeros as newer ones have a plastic carter to protect the spare wheel.

Good Afternoon, So i've still got my Jag XKR & 1988 MINI but managed to get my self a Hummer H2 changed the wheels from stupid 24" that the previous owner had to 17" will all terrain tyres at formula..... now what do i do i'm certainly not confident of the off road driving ( the fear of getting stuck) hence looking for course led me here any one else have a H2 ? how do they fair in the soft dunes? Any advice or chat? Thanks Gavin
