Not sure how badayer is after the heavy rain yesterday, hope still looking look. Hope will have good time. FB+ drive all whats required is concentration, and should be able to go through and everywhere. Eventually, everything is possible and acceptable, stucks..refusal... re attempt...no issues. Whats not acceptable is "lost the track!!!!" This means no concentration. So please.... We will be moving as the below convoy order, and on radio channel 2. For any requirement you can reach me on 0506318834 Look froward to see you tomorrow. Nice evening.

  2. Hi mate, cheers, the environment here is definitely a consideration. there is a large air vent just below the compressor and the cavity it is in holds a large volume of air, probably better than the ARB case it was in previously. Will test it out on tomorrows drive. I ran a separate heavy feed direct from battery (inside a protective sleeve) with a 50amp resettable circuit breaker at the battery to protect the wiring and a 50amp fuse at the compressor end to protect the load. All wiring is marine grade tinned wiring as well as the joints. I will be installing a relay next week so that it’s not hot all the time at the compressor switch. I have seen the standard that professionals do here and it’s scary so I do my own wiring

  4. @Ismail if you intend to use mild offroad and 90% daily commute. Then why not check out Lexus GX. from price point there wont be a big difference between prado limited and lexus GX but you will enjoy 90% of the time being in lexus luxury. just my 2 cents.

  5. "I have seen the standard that professionals do here and it’s scary so I do my own wiring " +1000 points on this comment. Whatever you do yourself with care and some basic electrical engineering knowledge will be thousands time better than a guy who is unskilled, in a rush, and doesn't care if your car goes up in flames the following week. The only thing i personally struggle with sometimes is finding decent quality wiring and relays. Amazon is a bit hit and miss, and the hardware stores here can't even tell the difference in types of wire.

  6. @Theo09, @PETELCZYC PAJERO - luke, @FERNANDO SYRIO, @Juan R, @Gok Krish, @Rk ram, @Saverio Arena, @Cristian, @Fabien Monleau, @Cha Thank you all for joining the drive. I will be posting the convoy order later in the day. Request you not to be a No-Show and instead rest well and arrive on time. In case you think there are going to be any issues withdraw from the drive. Meanwhile do check the health of your vehicle as it will be quite hot very soon, touching 40 degrees by the time we end the drive. It is going to be a semi exploration drive with me, also expect drive to be slightly quicker than usual. We will start driving south from our starting point towards E14. We will encounter a slightly busy area, but it will have mid-sized dunes. Next, we will go West towards Qudra, parallel to E14. It will have long range dunes where we will try to climb them dunes and ride on top. At the end of this we will have our break and then drive northwest to cross a section of tight technical area and then cross a Sabkha to reach the west end of Little Sweihan. We will then drive east and end our drive near Solar Park. I plan to end before 9:00 in the morning.

  7. A small project that I have been putting off for a while. mounted the ARB compressor inside the rear L/H quarter panel. Lots of room even with the factory amplifier. had some left over sound deadening mat so put a bit in as well. took about three hours to do so nice little mod that frees up some of the limited space in the back of the SWB. Have a kill switch for it next to battery and the switch next to the air fitting but will install a relay and a switch in my dash next. (Just have to find a heavy duty 60amp relay)

  8. I have a GX460 as well as my pardo. My version is the top one with the electronic height adjustable suspension. While it is extremely comfortable and has heaps of power the Pajero is a lot more suitable for our type of driving. the GX is my go to for long touring trips ( taking it to Oman next week) but has a bit to much plastic trim to use in the sand. that said you can get the lower spec with conventional suspension and build it into a beast with the right budget. They have the best petrol engine ever made by Toyota. Look up GXOR for inspiration

  9. Thanks, yes definitely will watch the heat. Will bring my spare compressor tomorrow in case the temp switch goes off. @Bravoechohad the same compressor mounted in a similar spot in his GX460 by ARB. It got hot as they do but never shut off and his tyres were a lot bigger than mine so fingers crossed. otherwise we will have a BBQ tomorrow 😂

  10. Nice project @Stumpy Pajthanks for sharing.. how did you engineer the ventilation of the compressor to ensure it doesn’t overheat specially in summer with excessive use ? Also, I assume you are not relying on the standard 12v outlet to feed the compressor, not sure the standard wiring is good enough for the high amps drawn by the compressor

  11. Glad to read that you are quite clear with your off-road expectation, as many times people buy cars based on marketing brochure sand splashing images and then cry on the first off-road drive. Prado, LC, GX all three are amazing for 90% on-road and 10% off-road usage with bbq, camping level or newbie-level drives without any mods or tinkering with OEM reliability. I used to think the same that Toyota electronic suspension is bomb-proof unlike Land Rover but in the recent past I have seen on two different occasions, that GX fails to rise on off-road settings, so you do need thorough research, reading recalls/TSB if you plan to go that route.

  12. Dear Pitch Black Riders Time to wrap it up . one day before the event . its not the Big Red you all Know especially after the heavy rain which might have reached that area recently. we will come to know in the couple of minutes we drive on either soft sand or rocky ground. Nevertheless we will drive in continous manner as a convoy at all times , no one by one turns even with the biggest climbs to the tightest turns on the other side of the moon , i mean the eastern side of that grid where people usually fear to go🤪, its Dark and the terrain might not show any specific pattern in the technical side. Please final check your vehicles and gear . come with full tank and big passion . lets rock it together. cant wait to see you all on time or bit earlier so hopefully we finish on time as well. DRIVE RSVP IS CLOSED NOW @Joji varghese will be in the second lead . @Krishna R will be in the 3rd position @Benjamin will anchor the convoy in number 4 @Senthil Kumar will be in 5th @Sunil Mathew in number 6 and in the sweep our friend @Rajiv Sam enjoy and cheers Seidam

  14. Well done @Stumpy Paj nice job, and this was my only concern, which @Islam Soliman mentioned. The overheating, which I hope you will not face it. My compressor is fixed, and fully open, but gets really hot after the inflation done.

  15. It’s a hell of a decision, I have been around 4wds for 35+ years now and the Japanese cars have always been the pick. I would probably get in trouble saying “i would buy a 10year old second hand Japanese car over a European or American in most cases”, so I won’t say it. 😅 My GX460 uses noticeably less fuel than my Pajero. Personally wouldn’t look at the 300 with the 4.0v6. It’s too much car for that engine (like the 4.0v6 in the patrol) the 250 series looks good, I think it will come with the 4.0 as a option as well. But will be a bit of a wait for delivery. if you are going to look at a GX for off road definitely get the bottom spec one. You can upgrade the suspension easy and it’s lighter without the electric rear seats, and the ventilated front seats. KDSS has been around for awhile now and is actually a very good system, so don’t be scared off taking it off road by a E11 salesman. The minister for war and finance will love the GX drive. Good luck

  16. @Nilakantan Erode yeah, have to admit I haven’t given the Lexus due consideration, will delve further into that. The stock SWB Suzuki has served a solid 200k kms and has held up ok with basic maintenance. As the family grows my off-road time is reducing hence this thread. Most important thing is the missus blessing the purchase 🙌 @Gaurav I’m sort of convinced (perhaps sheepishly) that I can’t go wrong with any Toyota/Lexus product, esp. one made in Japan. I’ll research both Lexus and Prado recalls/TSB’s, but in general my experience with Lexus through a sedan in the family is a great like @Nilakantan Erode mentioned even with relatively heavy use. @Stumpy Paj Sounds like you have a similar use scenario. From research both the 1GR-FE and the 1UR-FE seem to have the best reliability out there mated to the 6-speed on both Prado and GX460, respectively. My mind is telling me better to get a top trim for the extra bells+whistles for the first years of use during warranty. The top trim GX pricing is closer to the LC300 4.0 VXR and that’s another comparison altogether. Will definitely check out GXOR. Overall, the GX looks like a better purchase on paper, with the main trade off compared to Prado being the lesser fuel capacity and marginally higher fuel consumption. Don’t think both of these will be a big factor in my case. I will probably put together a spec comparison spreadsheet, with Pros /Cons and see what I end up with.

  19. @Ismailwhen i visited Lexus showroom in Early June...the Lexus GX460 Premier was offered at AED 260K..special offer. Worth checking it now..prices may not have changed that much. Lexus GX460 is after all a high end Prado...with luxury trimmings...marketed as such in US. I have had 2 Lexus in the past but the smaller version RX350 (one of my all time favorite cars) ...and they drive very well and very low maintenance ...very much comparable to the dedicated on road BMWX5 that my wife drives now! of course no off road on them. GX460 seems is much more suited for mild off road / camping etc. If i did not have any off road ambitions or had a dedicated off road vehicle...my own 2nd car would have been Lexus or Grand Cherokee. You seem quite sorted out with your dedicated off road vehicle ...Suzuki!!

  22. Hi @Frederic finally after two weeks of scheduling/rescheduling/almost cancellation of this trip, planning to go for it next week. However have some time constraint and don’t want to fly to Salalah. Seek your advice on what to/can be covered in Salalah in 3 days based on below parameters. 1. Not planning to be hiking much - with a 2YO, don’t think would be able to do much of hiking. Surely if something really nice within couple of Km of stretch would give it a go though. 2. Planning to have our first stop at Duqm and then through coastal road to Salalah. As of now wasn’t thinking to stop over much on the way - mainly as believe will be hot. Anything you advice. Believe there are some areas with nice lagoons but not sure if doable in present weather. 3. Planning to have more of 3 days of picnic at diff spots. Based on things you have shared in your post, it all looks fantastic and each place feel like something where one can just chill for whole day. Still if you have to pick 3 - what all would it be? 4. Any specific advice on what to must carry kind of things, other than ofcourse the usual stuff. Something (other than usual things) you felt would have been great if you had it or was great that you go it. 😀 Thanks again for sharing your experience. Despite some work engagements, your post is surely a big motivator for us to go ahead with the plan. Cheers

  23. @Gaurav off-roading should be limited to desert outings and camping during the winter season. However, the car will mainly be used as a means of transport 90%+ of the time. I’m considering keeping my trusty Suzuki GV for rough desert outings, potentially with off-road upgrades; while the Prado could be of use for more restrained trips. @Nilakantan Erode on KDSS, I read through other forums and it seems to be alright as long as it’s components aren’t exposed to the elements (sand, salt, water) for prolonged periods. It seems to have been used for years in LC200 and Lexus 4WD’s with no major issues or problems that are “Toyota easy” to fix. Don’t think I will do anything that could “break” the system but if anything ever does go wrong and Al Futtaim quote the price of a used Camry, I can always head over to my trusted local garage Also, said safety features are on both VXR and Limited but VXR bumpers are a bit overkill imo and would go off anyway so the Limited trim makes more sense. @Gautam Banka nice comparison. I’ve done something similar a few years back and Toyotas always come out on top too. Patrol Safari was also an option tbh given the similar price bracket but its lack of safety features and worse reliability and consumption gives Toyotas a clear leg-up. I appreciate the offer, perhaps we could do a drive indeed. Closing thoughts: Having contemplated further, I’m convinced the Limited trim seems to be the best candidate for my use scenarios, and provides a decent bang for buck even if it lacks the full range of options offered in other markets (Asia/Australia). It is also a good platform in general whatever I end up using it for down the road, even with KDSS. I wonder why dealers in the region don’t order the full range of options for a “top trim” vehicle; I wonder what drives their decisions or perhaps Toyota dealers specifically know the car will sell out regardless of options offered.

  24. Mostly personal preference but the V6 Engine bay is a bit to cramped, if this was the 3.2TD I would have a second battery and the compressor in the engine bay. there is lots of free space in the 1/4 panel plus it’s pulling clean cool air from the cabin, the engine bay cops at lot of sand and heat (over 90deg) so hopefully the compressor will last a bit longer in this location.

  25. Good evening, all. Many who have driven with me knows that my car carries 3 different colours (primary silver, secondary red, and thirdly yellow). In relation to this I have been meaning to write a post to help anyone looking to add a new colour or colour's to their car. To begin with I originally thought I could just slap any colour I wanted onto the car (even if it was only tiny little stripes; this is not the case). Recently I had to get a new Mulkia for my car this meant I had to visit a Tajeel center which failed due to incorrect colour information. So how would someone avoid the process of taking off stickers or potentially gain a large fine for driving a car that is seen as a UFO in the eyes of RTA. This is a long process which should not be overlooked ensure you do everything legally before changing the colour of your car. To begin with the first thing your going to want to do is visit the Dubai Police Vehicle impound Yard in Warsan 2 located here https://goo.gl/maps/ZK1mWcJt7Kotb6k27, Then you will want to meet the receptionist there and say your visiting to get a colour change request who will likely point you to a CID officer ensure they know its for non-commercial purposes. Now in my case after speaking to the CID officer and expressing concerns over having two new colours added onto the car he pointed me towards using the Dubai police app, he also told me to get the stickers put on before requesting onto the app which seemed to be taking a expensive risk. Get the stickers or paint job done to your car. Once your happy with your new colours and preferably your car is still under studio lighting within a workshop I recommend heading to the Dubai police app which is available on IOS and android devices Once within the app navigate to 'services' and scroll all the way down until you reach 'traffic services' from here click into 'vehicle change colour request' You will then be greeted with this request page, fill out all the credentials, photos and videos, then submit it to Dubai police this will in turn cost a fee which I think it was 140 dhs. NOTE: Be very careful submitting this form, ensure the current colour matches the Mulkia, if you're adding onto your primary colour make sure 'colour 1' is the same as what you have put in current colour. Also if you're going to add two new colours like myself ensure you put the largest amount of 'new colour' first before worrying about the second, in my request it was Silver and Red leaving out yellow. Shortly after you will receive a letter much like this one stating your car meets their requirements and the colour change is all done. You may think your finished however the fun is only beginning! 5. This step is optional, but I recommend anyway: Now if you have a third colour the app wouldn't let you submit head back to Dubai Impound in Warsan make sure you bring a printed copy or get desk 1 print you out your approval letter go back to the building with the CID officers and ask them to correct your form and explain you have another colour; in this case mine was yellow, be prepared to let them inspect your vehicle or show a photo just to illustrate what colour you mean; in my case the Officer wrote the word 'yellow' in Arabic followed by a signature and a Dubai Police Stamp (signature and stamp will show RTA guys that the form is legit) now that you're half way through the process remember you only have 30 days to sort out the rest of the legal paperwork on the new colours 6. Make sure you're up bright and early to tackle the task of heading to an RTA customer happiness center, I'm sure any RTA center is perfectly fine to go to however I recommend heading to this one in Al Barsha https://goo.gl/maps/CSWjyTbhGfxPrwYS6 7. You could attempt to head into the main office to ask for a colour inspection much like myself however they will point you towards a Tajeel testing center which is located right behind the buidling. 8. Upon reaching the tajeel booth ask the person at the gate your there for a colour inspection, they will most likely shuffle you into the 'special services' testing bay, after waiting for your turn tell them your only there for a colour inspection and give them your printed approval from Dubai police (even if you tell them this they will still do a full inspection of the car charging you 170 dhs which is frustrating so best go when your Mulkia is about to expire. 9. Talk to the receptionist within the Tajeel side of the RTA center and explain your there for a colour inspection, she will give you a ticket and now you wait! everything should be smooth if you only added one colour and you should receive your passed note from RTA which will allow you to talk to the receptionist to get your new Mulkia printed. Congrats! BUT if you also added more than one colour your day is going to get a lot longer within RTA, much like myself you will probably be located by the RTA guys and they will tell you the colour doesn't match what you have on the Dubai police report (potentially this was my experience) point out the stamp and the colour that has been approved by the Dubai police impound. This next experience can also vary so be prepared for the unknown, when you finally pass inspection and your directed to a new line for your new Mulkia you may be told a new card cannot be submitted to you because the colours don't match from the report and your car, explain the confusion or speak to the manager showing them your RTA printed document with the print and signature Ensure you scan this police document onto your phone in case it is lost within all the RTA confusion 10. Everything should be cleared up and you should have a new Mulkia and should have all remained colours onto your car! Congrats! 11. Enjoy your stripes or new paintjob until you realize that stickers may need to be fixed every 2 years due to the hotter climate of Dubai Thanks for reading and I hope this helped someone in the long run.

  38. The only issue I struggle is rpm which is locked at 4,000 and above that the ECU takes over and doesn’t allow no matter how much gas you press hard. For all dunes in UAE if you are not doing dare devil extreme drives this is more than enough. 😀 I am traveling at the moment and would take you for a drive when I arrive end of the month. You can drive my tuned Prado 2022 model. look at a comparison I had made few days back when I wanted to buy off-road trading the Prado. the first three Toyota still cheapest and multi purpose.

  39. Thanks @Varun Mehndiratta! Camping is perfectly possible here in Salalah and even encouraged with many camping stuff for sale in the super markets. In our case we had booked a small villa for 7 days in Salalah and didn’t bring the camping gear along. After visiting the places we’ve seen so far I kinda wished we brought the stuff along. On the other hand it rains practically every night so that has to be taken into account. Our hiking boots needed two days to dry out so we had to alternate between wadi hiking and beaches. Lulu Hypermarket had nice camping stuff on sale, and we went to visit this store as well as we were passing by: https://goo.gl/maps/doh1pxuyTSKVh14E6 Small shop but some nice items. They even sell the Golden Camel compressors Overall I’d recommend taking some camping gear along and setting it up when you have the occasion and feel like camping, but there are plenty hotels for each budget in Salalah and we were happy taking that option as we spend a lot of time on the road as well during the day.

  44. The more I have the pleasure of interacting with the Carnity team, the more I understand the rationale behind its name: Carnity = Car Community. There is a genuine inclination to support eachother, and help eachother learn and grow, without any prejudice. The Carnity team has done such an incredible job of creating this culture, you can easily feel the sense of camaraderie and kindness influencing even the new members. I was raised in Canada so I’m accustomed to a multicultural and diversified community, but it’s absolutely refreshing to see a microcosm of it within Carnity. On my first Carnity drive, I remember being a bit hesitant when I first got out of the car to introduce myself, but something astonishing happened which I’ll never forget. I was shaking hands and saying hello, when all of a sudden@Rahimdad came up and gave me a totally unexpected but warm hug, like we’d known eachother for years. I was shocked! And totally disarmed. But I knew from that point on exactly what type of club is being run here.

  45. Amazing to see such a diversity in the club. I guess we all have one thing in common: We made the UAE our home away from home, and as an expat we need to get out, explore, travel, and meet friends, colleagues, buddies, that makes us feel as our home is here. I feel very blessed to have met so much amazing people yet, and look forward every day in meeting more !
