Dear Desertnauts welcome to the next Carnity Newbie (and Absolute Newbie) drive. As the drive plan initially entailed the wish to give a seminar in off-roading skills, one at the time, the fact that we have 4 Absolute Newbie in the drive is not going to bring about a change of plan, actually quite the contrary. We'll still provide a detailed briefing prior to actually entering the desert, then we'll dedicate about 1 hour each to the skills of 1) side sloping, 2) straight crossing, and eventually 3) criss-crossing. Of course, all maneuvers will be supervised, and conducted both on a terrain suitable for beginners, as well as with all safety precautions, to ensure that all drivers can manage to complete the drive. All Absolute Newbies ( @taz911, @Amal Sunil, @Shady Ibrahim and @S.Mahesh), please MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SEEN THE BRIEFING LIMKED TO THE DRIVE'S POST). The meeting point will be just off the tarmac road leading from Qudra's Last Exit to the Bab al Shams Resort: after reaching the 3rd roundabout, you will circle back toward Qudra, and exit at the first break in the guard rail, before stopping just past the bike track. Hahahah, good one @Looper, maybe I want all IM to level up their game with this one, you never know. Planning for the route, fuel station, sleep, weather conditions, sunrise, drive in the dark or with clouds, and time for breakfast and lunch is more suited for Newbie and Fewbie. IM + Exploration should mean all participants should be ready for everything and think outside their comfort zone. Drive detail: 4-hour exploration of the new area, where I have never driven before. So we might cover 40 - 80 km off-road in this 4 hour, so you can factor extra jerry can or not based on your own calculations. My own plan: As my car gives 350 km on-road and 160 km off-road, so I will carry one jerry can and drive from the nearest fuel station with gentle on gas. I most likely will cover whole drive plus driving to fuel station after the drive, but still keeping 1 jerry can because its exploration and we might burn extra fuel sometime.

@Gaurav calls the drive Razeen but the entire planning needs to be done for Al Qua. Normally that involved us reaching the evening prior and having a nap at the desert and may be loose an iPhone or two in the process.

Dear Desertnauts, a speedy briefing for the speedy drive in the planning. Meeting point will be posted in a few minutes, and it will be in Faqa's sabkha, reachable by taking the last turn off on the Dubai-Al Ain Rd. before Faqa Town. As mentioned, the drive's planning will take us toward Solar Park moving along the fence surrounding the southern border of the solar array around the Solar Tower (AKA The Eye of Sauron). The area is at first quite tight and with plenty of soft sand, hence we'll have to minimize any difficulty, and increase our speed as we drive through it, until we'll eventually reach the sabkhas bordering Little Sweihan (which we'll hope to cross, time permitting). The convoy order will be the following: @Alexanderrr in Second Lead @Rk ram at #3 @Ahmad Nerat at #4 @Ignacio Quindós at #5 @Krishna R at #6, and @Senthil Kumar in Sweep. Winter is almost here; I could see the early morning winter fog today while driving to the office. But I think it will be another week before it is going to have winter temperatures. For this week expect it to start at 28-29 degrees and by the time we finish it should be around 35 degrees. When I was here last time a couple of weeks ago, I found this area technically challenging yes, but did not find this area to be super soft as I anticipated. We drove on a track that would take us to the Last Exit, but the area is so bushy towards the later part of the drive that we were just trying to find sand and drive. This time around, however, we will spend a lot more in the sandy technical dunes and then go towards north and trace our way back to the Bab Al Shams exit near the cycle track. It won't be a long drive and we will be exploring every bit of the small patch of sand and increasing the pace as we keep driving in this area. Just a mid-week reminder that you make sure that your calendars are free to drive this week and there are no planned late-night activities causing you to have emergencies exits from the drive late in the night.

September’s project 🥴 I am planning to delete the spare wheel cover and the plastic trim on the rear door. i have just received the fibreglass replacement panels and I am waiting on delivery of the licence plate holder to go in the middle of the spare wheel. two questions for anyone who has done this. 1. what to do with the rear parking sensors? If you unplug the them do the other two still work or do all 4 need to be plugged in? 2. is it a legal requirement to have the rear fog light? thank you

I am planning on getting fuel at the Al-haffar ADNOC (24hr) and taking a 20lt Jerry can. (Number 1) there is the closer ADNOC at AL-RAZEEN (number 2) but it is not 24hr, opens at 6am I think.

This means that I need to take E95. I will start after I have dinner and go there. take an hour of nap in the car somehow. It is going to be Epic. BTW last time we did a drive there at Al Qua, I and @GauravSoni stopped at a Mandi Restaurant at Al Quaa and had a good feast and took an hour of nap before we started from there. It was quite relaxing TBH.

This is the most appropriate gas station. Yalla Let's go. Weirdly enough I have some furniture delivery at my office at 1 am. I will have to start after that.

Some time back I was in India and tried to drive a stick shift. god oh god how miserably I failed. I drove stick for 20 years before I came to Dubai.

Just a cautionary note that for the last 90 km or so the drive towards the end will be in complete darkness as there are no lights there on that road reaching the meeting point in this direction. My plan involves avoiding jerry cans. If not, then this is the way to go. In the other way it's about 60 km in darkness. For most parts, it's an 80-100 km road but very few radars. In the other side it is a 140km road in Abu Dhabi except from a small section in Al Ain town.

Taking the 611 and coming in the other way is over 100kms shorter and a hr less driving. means I get a little more beauty sleep. 😳 I Will have to go easy on the loud pedal on the way, will save on speeding fines. 😂

I have the golden camel(dragon mart) onboard in my X. Faster, cheaper and apparently not reliable (not my exp).Does the job for me! Ensure you have a circuit breaker so as to not fry the other electronics in the car. ARB - expensive but reliable, a bit slower compared to double camel. Comes with warranty. Air tank helps with air tools, especially when changing a flat tyre. Bluetooth module seems to be an overkill. But this comes from the guy who deflates by screwing out the core (rather than buying quick deflator valves) In this hobby, there is no limit for mods and upgrades. We stop when the wallet runs dry or when the passion dies out or most importantly, when common sense kicks in and reminds us whats actually required.

And also the pickup driver should have given more gas !
