On the highest squelch level, your radio keeps picking up even the smallest of noises? Do you keep getting distracted by static noise during your drive? Then you need to adjust the internal squelch levels. This tutorial is valid for Baofeng models UV5R, UV82, F8HP, and 82HP. It is not valid for models UVB5/B6 or BF888S. You will need to: - purchase the Baofeng USB programming cable - download CHIRP The fix needs a bit of programming (that's why the USB cable), but it's easy enough and all the steps are explained in detail in this article: Adjusting the internal Squelch Levels - UV5R / UV82 / F8HP / 82HP series TL;DR The factory's internal squelch level settings have long been known to have little or no impact on the actual squelch range. The smallest noise burst would easily open the squelch regardless of setting 0 through 9. Most standard Baofeng factory squelch levels range from a low of 14-22 to a high of 40-48, both of which are low, and offer very little variation of squelch levels.

The sweet sound of the engines growling, climbing on to those tall dunes at Badayer to the calls of “Yalla Push” or tackling tricky fast paced long-range dunes at Faqa’a we want to live and relive every moment we spend driving in the desert. Some of us record videos of our adventures. A good seamless workflow is important so that you don’t spend a lot of time making those videos, which to be honest we can do only so much since we are not professional video editors. I will attempt to go over the workflows that I follow, which might be useful for some of you. These days I record my videos using Insta360 X3 action camera. I do the initial framing in the Insta360 STUDIO 2022 app on my first generation M1 Mac Mini with 16 GB ram. Post export I do the final edit of the videos in Final Cut Pro X on the mac. In some of the videos I overlay telemetry data using either Insta 360 STUDIO or Telemetry Overlay app. In this thread I am going to post series of articles going over the various aspects of videos editing starting from setting up the action cameras, video editing to exporting and publishing on YouTube and Instagram our favorite destinations for sharing the videos. Why am I writing this? Because I have tried it all, different cameras, different mounting options, various editing medium and software and techniques. I feel I can help the community with the knowledge I have gained. Follow this thread to be up to date. PS: I plan to update and revise certain sections to enhance clarity, streamline information for brevity, and improve language and grammar.

I'm running the same firmware version and had the squelch issue. It also seems they keep the same configuration of squelch levels even on newer/older firmware.

Thank you all for joining the drive this morning. This area is never disappointing, even with a few convoys around, there is largely enough space to enjoy. And this is what we did ! From one bowl to the other, crossing ridges, climbing high dunes step by step, building up momentum to reach the high points, and going gown steep slopes with rolling sand. And these beautiful views over the dunes and sabkhas with the morning light... The sand was a bit wet at the beginning, soft and heavy in some places, but we maintained a fluid flow, each of you keeping the pace with barely a few refusals. Still a few points to remain vigilant for some of you, steer down and come straight in the slope when your car is loosing momentum and start fishtailing, avoid sharp turns, especially in steep descends, keep your car straight in the descents (giving a bit of gas will put it back in line). Last but not least, in a steep descent keep your wheels straight until you reach the bottom. We had 2 pop-outs at the same location, where the directions of the wheels and the car were not aligned, resulting in excessive effort on the sidewall of the tyre. Thank you all for the team effort during these recoveries. @Emanuel thank you for the SL, excellent drive, @Lala G, very well done also, and thank you for your support in fixing the pops, watch your fishtailing in some occasions, @Deepak Eswar, you can have excellent focus and control in some occasions (last bowl), try to have the same during the complete drive (a bit of fishtailing and refusals could be avoided), @Rk ram, no issue today, stay in control of your speed, especially in the descends, @Gertjan, very reliable drive, always in control, thank you for the pics, @Alphin Aloor keep driving, you will become more in sync with your car, and get the best out of it, @Pascal, @george charbel, very well done, always in control, @Hugo, thank you for watching the back, always a pleasure to see that Last Edition FJ in the sands ! Driving off-road is a very interesting and entertaining experience but there are a few basic things you need to check first before heading for your first off-road drive with Carnity Off-road Club. Every driver should know when to join for an offroad drive and when to pass until all below things are checked. VEHICLE Ground clearance: Minimum 8 inches under front and rear bumper is must. You will need to be careful while driving and slow down while descent and approach to avoid any minor bumper damage. If your 4x4 have EAS (electronic suspension), lift it to the max height and then measure it. Also read the manual to know what is the max speed you can drive with off-road height, as many manufacturer limit up to 60 Kmph with off-road height, which is plenty in most cases. Knowing that limit is better in case you go above that speed, so you can lift it again once you slow down. Tow hook: Your 4x4 should have at least 1 tow hook in the front and 1 tow hook at the back, more the better. Also you should check the integrity of all tow hooks and its appearance, if they are shaking or rusted or missing a bolt, then get them fixed before joining any off-road drive. Engine: Your engine should be in perfect working condition without any check engine light or any warning lights on dashboard or leaking oil or coolant. Engine takes more stress while off-roading so well serviced 4x4 performs better on off-road. If you recently bought the car and have no idea of last service, then it's highly advisable to get the engine service before your first off-road drive. Gear / Transmission: Your 4x4 should have 4L and 4H gearing option. AWD or SUV without LO/HI gearing option are not advisable for sand off-roading. Suspension: Your 4x4 vehicle suspension should be in reasonable and drivable condition. You can drive with stock suspension perfectly fine and then you can decide to modify it, if really needed. Any suspension lifted up to 2-3 inches are accepted, anything above 3 inches lift need trip leader approval before joining any drive to make sure if you have widened the wheelbase to lower the center of gravity in an orderly manner. Tires: Your 4x4 tires should be in good condition with enough tread and more than half life left. Tires nearing their end usually fail while off-roading, so check for date of manufacturing shouldn't be more than 3-4 years. No visible cuts or lost tread chunks or cracking sidewall should be there. Fuel Tank: You should always join the off-road drive with full fuel tank, as all vehicles consume double or triple the amount of fuel while off-roading. You don't need to change the fuel type from special to super for off-road purpose, continue with your fuel type as per manufacturers recommendation. Sign up: Once you have checked all these above points then RSVP the drive calendar and post an introductory message on the drive post - sharing your 4x4 details, previous off-road experience (if any), so that trip lead can acknowledge and plan the drive accordingly. OFF-ROAD GEAR You don't need any off-road gear or recovery gears for your first off-road drive, but if you have a shovel, flag and a radio (walkie talkie) then please carry it with you. Carry hat/cap/scarf, in case you need to spend long time under the sun. Carry plenty of water and soft drinks of your choice to keep you hydrated. Carry your camera mounts if you like to record the drive (no hand held). No carrying or consumption of any type of alcoholic drinks on the drive.
