  1. Once again thanks @Frederic for the sound advice. That was actually what i had in mind, Once my car is fixed i'll do some more newbie drives to test the car performance before i'll go back to Fewbie.  As for the radio , i can manage answering the calls  but my only issue is the clarity of message reception due to its poor quality. I have purchased the unit you recommend but unfortunately we were not able to program it yesterday to the right frequency.  That's why @Vanessa8580 offered her kind help to take it to an expert like you.

Thanks @Chaitanya D for the recommendation .I'll  try this one

    See you soon guys !

  2. Thanks @Emmanuel you did great for leading us to those roller coaster slopes , i learned another valuable experience. @Vanessa8580  you drove like an expert. I appreciate the supportive gestures and help of @Wrangeld@Ale Vallecchi , @Martin. , the moral support of my kabayan @Rinelle Sanaani and all the rest of the convoy for your patience and understanding of the situation.

Yesterday was my first fewbie drive, and being aware of this new level of challenge , i have my car checked of its overheating incident during my last drive. Although i have it brought to 2 shops to fix the issue and even added extra cooling fan. (Thanks @Chaitanya Dfor the concern.)   But still the situation is not totally solved. Hoping for some recommendations from our team for a specialist workshop that could solve this issue.

Thanks @Vanessa8580 and to  @Frederic to set up my new radio . I'm sure it will be a great help on my future drives to ensure i could clearly hear instructions and proper reply to  calls.

    Thanks everyone !

Hi Jun, i hope you are fine. I heard there were some issues with your radio last time ?

If i remember correctly, you are using the Baofeng 888 which does not have a display. They work ok as spare unit, but are not that great, and due to the lack of a display you can't really see which frequency you are one, or if the battery is still ok.

I remember programming your radio with laptop and cable, i think it's either like this:

    Channel 1: Carnity Channel 1: 446.00625 Mhz

    Channel 2: Carnity Channel 2: 446.03125 Mhz

    Channel 3: Carnity Channel 3: 446.05625 Mhz

    Channel 4: Carnity Channel 4: 446.08125 Mhz

Channel 5: Carnity Channel 5: 462.8875 Mhz (Carnity Backup Freq).

    Or like this:

    Channel 1,2,3,4: Carnity Channel 1: 446.00625 Mhz

    Channel 5,6,7,8 : Carnity Channel 2: 446.03125 Mhz

    Channel 9,10,11,12 : Carnity Channel 3: 446.05625 Mhz

    Channel 13,14,15: Carnity Channel 4: 446.08125 Mhz

Channel 16: Carnity Channel 5: 462.8875 Mhz (Carnity Backup Freq).

So for this week's drive on Channel 4, you will need to put the channel selector on Channel 4, or on Channel 13,14, or 15.

These radios have sensitive channel selector buttons, that's why i remember programming some of those radios to have channel 1,2,3,4 on Carnity channel 1. So if you accidentaly hit the channel selector, you will still be on the right frequency.

PS Dragon Mart still has the promo running for the Baofeng UV5-R, which is on sale for 75AED. It might be a good alternative to get this one if the Baofeng 888 keeps giving you troubles. The Crony MT777 is also very good, slightly more expensive (130AED).

Thanks @Frederic and @Gaurav for the tips. yes i will upgrade this radio gadget. i  was in Ramy Automotive this afternoon to buy my kinetic tow rope and some other stuff to complete my off road requirements. They offered 10% discount  on all items. But they don't have the radio. :(

  5. Dear Guys,

My sincere thanks to the whole convoy under the leadership of @Srikumar, for helping me out on being stuck. Another lesson and experience learned. In my observation, the moment the HOT OIL  message shows out from the dashboard, the engine became weaker and that was probably the reason i got stuck.

Thanks for advice of installing a cooling fan at the front of my radiator. Can anyone recommend good shop that can do the job?

Thanks everyone it was a very enjoyable drive!

  6. Getting excited on the next drive but a bit anxious upon the news that authorities are urging citizens to stay home. So i had doubt that our schedule might be postponed.

In my desperate need of confirmation, i called a couple of desert safari tour agencies, they answered that desert safari tours are closed until March 31.

Maybe you guys have more reliable info on this.

Yes Gaurav we'll wait for your confirmation .
