  1. @Gurcharan Mehta, I think it's time to change your avatar Following the 500hp monster up the hill isn't easy in an under-powered and beat-up pajero, but I believe I did achieve something last night and managed to keep up just right (often had to give @Gurcharan Mehta a lot of space before speeding up as his great car does not need any runway, unlike mine - that's why @Cristian asked me why I'm not moving - I just needed much more space to speed up before the climb). And I believe we did that 2000 m, didn't we @Ale Vallecchi ? Some of the ridges were bumpy but fun nonetheless. @Sunil Mathew on that photo looks almost as if trying to take off: After visiting badayer and lisali desert so many times, I am pleased to see there are so many tall dunes here, and you don't really need to drive all the way to Abu Dhabi to have a decent view: I hope you guys enjoyed the ride as much as I did! Thank you all and see you next time!
  2. My first F+ drive and I immediately realized how big of a difference it is: everybody on time; straight to business and ready to go; I was the only one getting refusals and there was only one weird popout but @Fabien Monleau fixed it even before we all looped back to help (amazing job). I understand where @Looper got his nickname! The loops were often brutal and very demanding, but fun nonetheless. It was intense like never before since I joined - often reaching rev-limit on second gear in my humble dune buster (approx 110km/h) going around the slope... that's a G force I did not expect! Some of the loops: And some more: I guess the only way it's possible is because of the weather - you can go around and around over the same tracks without destroying the dune - that's how compacted it was... Thank you all for the opportunity to drive with you gents! Some stats: And the "big picture" :
  3. ...if you are an active / subscribed member - otherwise these options won't even show...
  4. Mine started blinking couple months back during one desert drive. But restarting the car did it for the next couple of days... But it comes back. And as Frederic mentioned - it's related to the vacuum system. Funny enough - ever since amazon delivered the part, I have not seen the blinking thing since. I keep the solenoid in the glove box so I can replace it if needed, but so far it didn't come back (since Dec). I told myself that I would replace it anyways next time I'm working on the car... and I forgot completely until I saw this post.
  5. I thought I am the only one... hope this policy really works for the benefit of carnity and you guys are measuring the results, because damn I need to click every time I reload the page and it's kinda annoying...
  6. the drive will become history as twenty-popout'th February drive... Has anyone figured out the road closure reason? I saw how many of you guys tried to tackle out the way across the wet puddle when entering Qudra area - why not going across it? I did ... both ways. The 12-year old in me was very happy. The car wash guys were not pleased... Seemingly easy and wet sand turned out extremely deceiving! I was surprised by the number of technical passes and seeing from the back of the convoy how difficult it was for many folks to cross gave me a new levels of respect to qudra desert. 1h 25 minutes of driving + 2 hours 35 minutes doing recoveries and addressing popouts (3!), including my virgin one... I managed to scoop half a bucket of sand from it when working on the tire on my way back. @Abhilash Kottakkal, I think you won the tightest dune pass attempt with this drop hope your bumper is OK! And these ballerina moves: And my first popout... Looking forward to some more drives out there during wet season! Thank you @Islam Soliman for rapid recovery attempts and, boy - this car jack air bag was something else!
  7. my first time with gopro... nothing special, because it's just "boring" drive, but the way this thing stabilizes the horizon despite being fixed to the side of the car (or the bashing plate) - I am shocked! and the two occurrences when I caught @Ale Vallecchi's doing wheely when crossing a dune: and here:
  8. That enormous empty space everywhere you look... It's insane how much larger the desert there is if you come there from Dubai: Everything seems so tiny: But that's what we all came from - it's was well worth to get up early in the morning and drive that far @Aser Happy faces everywhere @PAJERO petelczyc luke @Shaun J: @Ale Vallecchi getting out of any sticky situation: What a drive!
  9. A drive like this is the one to remember. Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for the opportunity to get there and spend the whole day out! I loved the energy and the fact that nobody (except for myself after I jinxed it on the last kilometer of the trip) actually needed a push/pull or a dig As soon as I find some time, I'll go through footage from my camera and gopro!
  10. Thanks @Frederic, google is weird sometimes when you just look for "gas stations" in the area... I'll try this one then. @Ale Vallecchi, I'll get a small jerry can with me just in case. Better safe than sorry.
  11. It appears that the nearest gas station is 60 km away from the meeting point (here). @Ale Vallecchi, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe my 50L tank can turn out to be no match for the adventure, and I have one last day to arrange a 20L jerry can ?
