Dubai Police Fines Traffic Fines Really great news for Dubai residents who have Dubai Police Traffic Fines can avail up to 100% discount as per year of tolerance initiative from Dubai Police. In a nutshell: Be a good driver for 3 months = 25% discount Be a good driver for 6 months = 50% discount Be a good driver for 9 months = 75% discount Be a good driver for 1 year = 100% discount Be a good driver means you should follow traffic rules throughout the year and don't get Dubai Police Fines. I called the Dubai Police for more clarity: If you have previous traffic fines from last year, they are also applicable in this "Settle your traffic fines" initiative but the time will start from today - 6 Feb 2019. So if from today till next 3 months you follow traffic rules and don't get any traffic fines, then last year fine will be discounted by 25%, for 6 months = 50% and so on. If you are renewing your car next month or so, you can still renew the car without paying Dubai Police Fines. You need to go to the traffic department - they have options to renew your car without paying any traffic fines from Dubai police.

After this drive we shall rename it the Carnity bowl as I guess we will all need the winch and tow ropes to pull us out 😁

I think you need to be a good driver for the whole year to get 100% . if you've been a good driver for the whole year you wouldn't have any fines. What's the criteria for being a good driver?

Hi guys. Just wanted to update this thread - I've seen 3 more mechanics (thanks @Carnity, the 'Get Quotes in Minutes' feature works) and all 3 have basically confirmed that the tappets are to blame. Although 1 of them said that this is normal and I should just put thicker oil (no, not Saleem). Anyway, I'm saving up for parts as each tappet/lifter is Dhs 30 from Divya and Dhs 54 from Habtoor. Replacing all 24 will add up so I guess its a no brainer where I should get them. I've been quoted no less than Dhs 500 for labour in several garages (a whole day's work) so I guess it will take time before I update this thread again with an 'after' results. But once done, I will surely post the results here.

As a car enthusiast, I'm sure you must be having tons of experience with mechanics and workshops in UAE. List your worst mechanic experience here with as much as details, I'll start with mine: Back in those when I got my new license and my first car, I was very happy with the first mechanic who has served me honestly and fairly all the times. After I sold my Sunny, I got an Accord, he has been maintaining that as well. Every time I take the car for other jobs, I use to ask him to check everything from engine - gear - bushes etc and every time he used to say yes all done. As few of Honda guys know that Accord is notorious for gearbox failure, so on first jerk or late shifting, I reported to him and ask him to change the gear oil and filter. And after that still gearbox died and I went to gear specialist who showed me stale oil and said it was never changed. That gear rebuilding because of cheating cost me 10 times the price of gear oil change and forced me to not to trust mechanics again. Get a critical job in front of your eyes - no matter how much you trust your mechanic or long relation you had. Then again things change and I met real professionals and start trusting mechanics again but with a "pinch of salt".

QUA DESERT AND AL WAGAN DESERT DRIVE Much awaited Qua drive to conquer the unconquered "Pajero Bowl" It's this humongous bowl from which I was unable to come out and then we have to join tow ropes and winch together to bring my Pajero out. I used to have a 2011 Pajero which had the same issue. The driver side mirror would shake especially at high speed but it wasn't that bad that I managed despite daily travels at 130kph at that time. But since I also got that used from Al Futtaim, I did bother to ask them for a solution to which they said I need to replace the entire side mirror assembly. My current 2014 Pajero driver side mirror does vibrate a bit (I may be nitpicking) but not similar to my previous Pajero. I guess this is another Pajero thing. So yeah, I am also curious to hear from anyone who had had this problem and managed to resolve it (without changing the entire mirror assembly as suggested by the experts at Al Futtaim).

Thank God, you aren't ruling Dubai @Barry I do admit to waiting for such a discount as I do get the occasional fine in unknown road or roads that have 3-4 different speed limits like once or twice in a year. And these offers do help than paying at regular rates. I like this time smartness of Dubai Police to tie the percentage with the behavior correction x time, that will help bring a lot of good behavior on Dubai roads (I seriously hope).

I don’t like things like this. I’ve seen people save their fines and wait for discounts. It kinda takes away from the fact you’re getting fined for breaking the law. People make mistakes but some just keep pushing and pushing the limits. Offenders should be punished and punished hard. No mercy.

I remember the discounts because of Ramadan. Every year they come up with something. I have the feeling that most hardcore overspeeders are now laughing out loud, and will take another car which has another license plate (wife's car maybe) for a while to avail their discounts. But on the other hand, kudos to Dubai Police for at least starting these initiatives and thinking out of the box mentality. It shows that they are progressive thinkers and open for new systems.

I think you are right, but I feel the way Dubai Police thinking is for the majority of road users who are usually good driver but get caught for occasional speeding or wrong parking by chance, to give them a second chance. The driver who is speeding regularly will be difficult to change his/her habit for the next 3 months let alone a year and still end up paying the regular fine.

The criteria is you just can’t get a fine for the mentioned time limit no matter what you do just don’t get a fine for yourself. So they will discount all your previous fines LOL

Hi @eduardo I have a 2014 model Pajero and facing this issue with only the driver side mirror, haven't bothered checking resolution. Would be interested to find any solutions through this thread.

If you really want to keep this car for a very long time, replacing all 24 is a good idea. Alternatively, you can just replace the one that is affected or a couple more with doubts. This happens due to a late oil change or bad quality or wrong spec engine oil, which if you take care then it won't repeat in future
