Most of us here has a JZX 2 ton jack with swivel neck (150 dhs) from Dragon mart. Without swivel neck 130 dhs, swivel is better to reach and operate from any angle. Looks very similar to this image @Jas Gajaria I am not sure if money or weight is a concern but in both cases failure rate of 50% and above is sufficient to consider safer jacking option unless you bolt bottle jack base on a wide metal/wooden base.

I have never been a big fan of the Toyota Corolla. It always looked to me like it was designed by an accountant on a Sunday morning. Driving it was also never an exhilerating experience. It did what it had to do, and the cabin was well put together, but never gave a real welcoming feeling. That was also mostly due to the fact that most people here in UAE buy the basic models, which suits them well as company tradesman car, rental car, or simple reliable commuter car. And in that aspect the Corolla has been a huge success. The resale value of a well maintained Corolla with acceptable mileage has always been above average, and you can bet your sweet tooth on it that if you'd put one on Dubizzle in decent condition, that within 1 day it would be sold. Now, looking at the 2020 Corolla which is now available in both Hybrid and Petrol versions, the new model looks more sleek, modern, and is becoming more and more like a Junior Lexus, which is not a bad reference. The Hybrid, having a 1.8 litre engine on board accompanied by 16-Volt electric motors, is clocking in at 95,500 AED. Having 121Hp and 142Nm of Torque are not world shocking results, but with a fuel economy of 3.9 l/100 km we are looking at a damn fine commuter car. Petrolheads amongst us that want to stay true to the black fossil blood, will have the choice between either a 1.6 at 121hp / 154Nm, or 168hp / 200Nm for the 2.0 litre version. The base model will be available from 71,900 AED onwards, Transmissions are CVT, which are partly responsible for the excellent fuel economy numbers. There are as many haters as there are lovers of the CVT trannies. I'm not fond of them as they take away a lot of the driver's engagement in how the car revs and behaves, but for the Candy-Crush playing commuters it will hardly make any difference. Toyota being a company of no surprises does again what it does best: make a car that will sell, no questions asked. Competition has been strong the last couple of years, especially from the Koreans which boast more exciting designs and lower prices, but high resale value kept the Corolla in the top spot and that will likely not change soon.

Yes, a worn CV joint will make a clicking sound on full lock. Go into an area where you can do a full circle left and right on full steering angle. If you hear a clicking when driving slowly, you found the problem. Congratulations, you solved your own problem and you’re a mechanic now. You’re certificate is in the mail 😬

If you’re going to buy a jack, spend a bit extra and buy a pair of axle stands also. They aren’t expensive and they could save your life. Folding ones are available for people who are short on storage space, like this, I borrowed a trolley jack and axle stands a couple of weeks ago to do a small job for a friend. I jacked the car up and put a stand under to support it, then went under the car to do what I had to do. I left the Jack there as I usually do and when I came out from underneath, the jack had sunk to the floor. If it wasn’t for the axle stand, the car would have come down and crushed me. Not the first time this has happened to me either. Supporting the car when it’s in the air is more important than getting it in the air. Don’t mess around with jacking up cars because accidents can and do happen.

Here's how you can remove the car paint scratches by yourself in few minutes, no matter how deep they are or how many they are. In our last off-road drive, while moving the dead tree to help someone it flipped on my Pajero bonnet and its dry branches spoiled the whole paintwork. It took me 1+1 hour in 2 days to achieve this result. I have never done such major car paint restoration job before but my bonnet was so badly destroyed that I had nothing to loose to try my hand first. Long ago, I used to polish all my cars once every year in winter, so I had those stuff lying around and thought of giving it a try before I drop the car for repaint - expensive and time consuming affair. I researched first on how to deal with deep scratches and then applied everything in layers. Here is the whole process for removing scratches from car paint Spray gun with water and 3-4 squirt of hand wash. Sprayed on entire bonnet generously with cotton towel and massaged the hood. Then used the scotch brite - fake one that has softer grit, as I compared both. You can also use 3000 grit sandpaper. I sprayed the soap water again and then started with gentle air touch scrubbing with fake scotch brite. Almost 20-25% scratches gone immediately, then applied very little scrubbing pressure on dark scratches and now they started to fade, but not gone. Got the "Formula 1 Scratch out" and added some water in the bottle to dilute it. Dip the fake scotch brite and rub the scratches gently - first in straight line manner and then in swirls - both have its own use and importance so you will kill less of clear coat in deeper scratches. Left the first coat to dry and then scrub with dry towel and tons of elbow grease and 50% scratches were gone. Now I was really motivated and excited to see the instant results. Repeated the same on deeper scratches and after second round 90% were gone and I slept happy with big ear to ear smile. Next day morning, went to get the daytime pictures and OMG half of the paint scratches were back, because when paint is fully dry the clear coat scratches comes back. So second day night, I took the "Formula 1 Carnuba Car Wax" and "black & decker waxer" to shake the hell out. Now for the second day I didn't used scotch brite and used a soft cloth to apply scratch out liquid and scrub nicely from my hand until it literally disappeared. Did that on all stubborn scratches and again almost 90% were gone. Idea here is to keep using scratch out liquid until the scratches disappear or close to disappearing and don't overdo in one attempt. As every time you leave scratch out to dry and scrub again it fades the scratches more. So have patience and keep on repeating the steps until you are happy. Last but not least the clear coat sealing that I literally scrubbed away so much that it might fade my paint soon. So got the carnuba wax on the damp applicator and applied generously on first round and let it dry for few minutes. Then use the waxer to polish the whole hood again and bring back to its shine and fixing almost 90% scratches. Done the second round of wax but this time used a very very thin layer of wax to apply by hand so that it can retain longer as oppose to thick layer, which was needed for initial sealing. After this thin layer dried, use the waxer again to polish and super happy with the smooth and silky feel and shine on my bruised hood. If you don't have waxer, it will take more of elbow grease and muscle and it's still perfectly achievable with little more time, that's it. And yes, I checked today morning and still 90% scratches are gone and only 10% left which are break in paint or faded very deep that will be noticeable with one feet distance. I can live with this much for now and will see what next I can do. Maybe next I was thinking of sourcing same paint to cover the paint crack and then apply clear coat can, but need a paint booth for that or any closed area where dust won't settle in clear coat. Let's see what happen and Ill keep updating the progress here. THINGS I USED

Specific speed vibration - 90% wheel balancing doubt and they do tend to disappear or reduce after you cross certain speed. Get the proper wheel balancing done and see zero and zero on both sides. I keep screaming this as majority of guys accept 5-10 = 0, whereas it will still have this vibration. Perfect 0 and 0 on both sides for all 4 tires "MATTERS". CV joint does make click clack on full turn and your gen Pajero prone to breaking CV joint after slight lift. I have been changing or re-greasing them almost every year, its usual wear and tear if front is slightly lifted.

Makes a person think, and that’s what I liked about it. Especially the part on agregate efficiencies was an eye opener.

You’re missing the point buddy. A Land Cruiser is gonna cost you a lot more on fuel and maintenance. The higher price Tag is also because of Hybrid Technology.

I guess what you have mentioned is a bit dramatized as this is a job that they have willingly choosen to do. I agree that delivery guys should never be penalised for late delivery and I don't think in UAE there is a system of penalty. In India when Domino's pizza was launched and their promise was to deliver the pizza within 30 minutes else the pizza is free. And the cost would be borne by the delivery guy. Imagine, a company like Domino's doing this. But coming back to the topic, these delivery boys drive quite rashly at times and like Fred said they need to learn to drive defensive for their own safety. I have seen bikers over taking from the right so often. They drive here similar to how they do back home where they zigzag through the traffic, but the big difference is the speed and the size of the cars.

We are thinking of a sedan, this should be perfect when compared to its rivals !! Wonder how much I'll be saving on fuel cost if we can achieve 100km in 4 Litres.

I’m gonna sound very blunt and rude now but as much respect I have for these guys I see 80 percent of them driving as they should, while the other 20 percent drive like they stole the bike and think they are in a video game. In no possible way is any job worth risking your life for and if you don’t ride defensively in UAE on a motor bike you’re signing your own death warrant. For some reason whatsoever many of them can’t seem to grasp when they are driving in the blind spot of the car in front of them, or overtake from the craziest angles and speeds. Sorry for these people I have zero respect

If you stack up stuff nicely, you will be surprise how much stuff you can "safely" store in your boot. Looks like you haven't had a look at my SWB minuscule boot space. And I'm carrying this jack with 50 other items.

Remember saving 100 - 200 dhs will equate to one time recovery if you need to pay from your pocket which is usually between 150-300 dhs depending on distance and inter-emirates. How much did you pay @Shamil recently?

Hey Fuad, Personally I've had no issues with the Current Mitsubishi Bottle Jack although some recommend against it, I lift the car from its control arm (make sure you have a wide baseplate). Lifting from the lower control arm means you won't have to raise the jack as much to get the rim and tyre up! Cheers, Jas

Of course you can ride a bicycle on dunes too, but its pretty tricky. PLEASE DON'T USE SCISSOR AND BOTTLE JACK IN SAND, if you love your car and limbs.

Firstly Fuad, Congrats on this little beast! R50 is a great choice! Parts are super cheap and the car flies... You need 2 things first, a lift kit and bash plate. With these two you'll tackle Liwa on its own no issues! Secondly if you really want to spend some cash you're super lucky because you share the engine and transmission with the 350Z which has a huge performance market here in the UAE, you can find 4.2 stroker kits and have it installed for less than 10K (which is an actual joke to be honest). As long as this is a desert toy, do whatever you want and it won't let you down. Lastly, if you don't want to go bat shit crazy... Just get some headers, exhaust and a cold air intake (with a dry filter) (should cost less than 5K all. And take the car to Qasim (AlfaTuner), he is very well respected within the UAE offroad community and has tuned almost every 4x4 I drive with (should be 1-1.5K) you'll be pushing 280HP no problems!

I would like to know expert advice in buying a hydraulic jack for my pathfinder and pajero. As it have extra clearance i would like to have something which fits fine and can be lifted with minimum effort. The stick which come along with is so small that its hard to get vehicle lifted most of the time. -what minimum height should be taken into consideration while selecting jack height. -preferable brands which does the job -where to buy it from -should lift vehicle with minimum effort. Kindly guide in resolving this.

Since a few days the blue lady has developed some humming kind of vibration from the steering wheel, most noticeable between 70-90kmh in 2WD on the highway. Below or above these speeds the vibration disappears. The steering wheel is not shaking, it’s a slight vibration felt in the center of the steering wheel. I was suspecting a wheel bearing so jacked up the front and turned the wheels but couldn’t really find anything wrong. Later i realized that on 2WD my rear wheels are driven and the front ones are freewheeling so I’ll still need to check the rear wheels. The vibration is also there during coasting (release gas and put in N), so I suppose drivetrain could be excluded ? Unless drive shaft maybe ? Also thinking about wheel balancing: maybe a balancing weight fell off from one of the wheels.... Tyre pressures are all at 35psi. any other hints or tips before I go for the balancing ?

Get yourself a nice big plastic tool box that is properly strapped in your trunk. Speedex has very nice ones for 100-150dhs. I use one for storing recovery rope, shackles, floorjack, gloves, etc...

Thats for 3rd party 4WD V6 quote. I never claimed so far for any of my vehicles.
