    @Gaurav Hi and thanks for the welcome. I'm driving a '14 Wrangler with 2.5 Inch lift. I have most of the gear incl. snatch straps, bow shackles, flag, winch, tire deflator, compressor. I have previous experience 4x4ing in Canada, but have only been in the dunes 5 times. Looking to learn all about it!

    In no particular order, 1 - Cars. That’s obvious, that’s why we’re on Carnity 2 - Music. I listen to a lot of genres. Play a few instruments too. I’ve been neglecting my playing but I started getting back into guitar and ukulele a couple of weeks ago. Been playing keyboards since I was 4-5 so it’s a lifelong thing 3 - Beer. I gave up drinking spirits a long time ago but I love to try new beers as much as possible 4 - DIY. I love fixing broken stuff. Next project is the water heater in the apartment now that winter is coming At home I used to enjoy hunting, mostly crossbow, sometimes shotgun and LR. It’s hard to beat some fresh fried rabbit. I used to fish a lot too, easy when the river is a 20 second walk from my back door. Fish from the supermarket can’t compare to a fresh trout or salmon you caught yourself. I used to hike a lot and would regularly spend 3-4 days in the mountains with just me and my dog and a tent. I used to cycle a lot. Used to be into racing too but it’s an expensive hobby. I miss my old life but it’s hard to do these things in UAE

    I'll see you guys tomorrow with @Adam Marston (he'll introduce himself soon, really busy week for us at work) I still need to get the flag hooked up to my patrol. I'll be sure to get it sorted before next drive . see you.

    @Halit Mert Issever thanks for the intro and your suction clamp is perfectly fine to hold the flag and they do work as intended. Only thing I may advise is to move up to rear glass window for better suction grip and increase height for better visibility. There are tons of offroaders here happily living with suction cup since many years because they don't like to drill hole, so its no big deal. @Xaf thanks for the intro, making a permanent adapter might take bit of patience and few trip to turning shop or repair workshop who understand and fabricate what you really want. All flagpoles are of different sizing, I think AOR has 10-12mm thread, I think @Emmanuel can confirm that as he is using AOR flag, if Im not mistaken. Your LR4 and LC200 are pretty powerful, so be careful on first few drives and learn the off-roading skills rather than depending on the gas pedal alone. Do listen to newbie brief with undivided attention for understanding on how to tackle the dunes safely and also clearing the myths. Im glad both of your 4x4 has 2inch lift as that's the Achilles heel for most modern 4x4 but still learn the perfect speed to descend for saving the front bumper, this comes with bit of practice and after 10-15 dunes descend you will be in perfect sync. Hope to hear from @Adam Marston soon too.

    Hi Gaurav, I drive a 2011 Land Rover Discovery 4, recently gone through full maintenance. I also ust upgraded my road tires to Cooper LTZs for better traction and installed a 2.5 inch lift kit. I do have some desert driving and rock crawling experience. I have been on the sand 2-3 times since I moved to Dubai in June. I will take the plastic covers off before our ride on Friday to make sure that front and back hooks are easy to reach. I will complete all the required gear in upcoming weeks before the start of my 10 day Oman trip on 25th of October. So for the next drives, I will have all of them. Cheers

    UAE is indeed very safe compared to rest of the world, but we should be responsible for our own things too. In such case when new criminal is born, cops will take some time to catch, so during that time, it's a big threat. Thank fully UAE cops and surveillance is top notch to not to spare such criminals and plus law is strict to deal with them accordingly.

    This worries me. I have left my wallet and phone in the car on many occasions and left the car open. I just always assumed UAE was safe. Time to change the way I think. Thanks for posting and I hope you catch the culprit.

    I don't even leave loose coins visible in the car and if there is something I put it in the footwell and cover it with the floor mat P.S how come car alarm didn't go off?

    Semi Synthetic of any make is just a waste of money. Because there is no set guidelines as to what constitutes as semi Synthetic they can mix in 0.5% of semi syn and legally still sell it as semi syn. So busy out a little extra and get fully syn or save up and go full dino oil. As for Adnoc I used it long term on my range rovers and discovery and had no issues with it. At 300k I opened up the disco motor to replace the timing chain and it was still clean as a whistle.

    I was doing the same work on a pajo this week what I did to sort it out was removed the front diff oil to check something crazy has not happened inside yet then poured new oil and then removed front differential actuator boot and lubricated it then changed the 2 switches besides the air filter and it became good And as for driving vibrations you could check the mounts the also contribute to that

    Hi, Driving a LC200, everything maintained. 2” lift. Pulled this week a few times friends of mine out of the sand, tow hooks are in good shape. Did a few desert drives last month, thats the only experience I have. I have a walkie talkie, the rest I still have to buy. What is the thread size of the off road flags? Tried to google, but can’t find it. Xaf

    @Boney John welcome to Carnity Off road club. This is just an introduction drive to the sands. A completely stock Pajero is more than capable to handle the toughest offroad terrain. You're most welcome to join. That being said, just do yourself a huge favour. Remove the rear silver piece in the rear bumper, I think it's held by 4 nuts which can be easily removed. These tend to scoop sand and get bent on the normal drives. Looking forward to catching you on the sand this Friday.

    Hi all, great content on this forum! I bought a Pajero 2012 second hand and it's all great except one thing: both side mirrors vibrate like crazy, not the entire assembly just the mirrors. I tried jamming some foam behind the mirror, it worked a bit but it's not satisfying yet. Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions? Thanks !

    Just wished to remind everyone that its not a good idea to leave anything of value in the car overnight. My car was broken into as there was a FedEx envelope left by my daughter inside. Fortunately, it was empty. However, they tried to open the fuse box too for some reason. Another reminder, don’t leave your car engine ON unattended even if the key is with you. Although this happened in a neighboring country where my brothers BMW was taken for a joy ride while he was collecting his laundry. Insurance refused to compensate too. He was lucky though as two weeks later the Police were reported by a gentleman about an unidentifiable car parked outside the persons home.

    It's my old Camry. 2006. I don't think it has an alarm. Infact my Prado Sideview mirror was removed too in the same location. This time I reported it to the Police.

    I have the same one and used once on a long drive to Liwa. It's full volume on highway speed is not at all satisfying, let alone the bass or clarity you expect from car audio system running with amp and specialized speakers.

    A buddy of mine is using a JBL HARMAN Bluetooth speaker fixed in this Cherokee for AED 300. Diff idea but solves every bit of purpose.

    Are you saying this for Tahoe? Maybe you need to take a walk in sajja, tons and tons of scrap available there in crispy clean condition. More than 10 scrap yard for Chevrolet, check Carnity business listing. For all consumable stuff Al Ghandi stocks pretty much everything. Never waited for any parts for my Trail blazer not even a one day. Only once headlight relay was not in stock, so source one from scrap, still running since 2 years.

    Only this week a guys Honda's turbo spooled and the hemi fell off the engine manifold we tryed to bolt it back but the mess was all over the engine bay in the end had to put in another used hemi on it...the guy was greatfull what lovely days... Had even convinced one really nice person that they had 3 right tires on their car and the only left tire was fixed on the right rear side of the car... Guess someone still is trying to convince the driver that everything is fine...

    Those clips behind the mirror are really delicate and break at slight tension even the mirror could crack if your hands are insensitive...99 out of 100 will break....

    The turning workshop can sort such things if you have idea or threads I had made my bracket on a L shaped plate which is bolted on roof so I just stick the flag on the L bracket the pole has not went anywhere till now but have lost few flags

    All the newbies @Adam Marston @Xaf @Halit Mert Issever please introduce yourself with your 4x4 and previous offroad experience (if any) that will help trip lead to plan the convoy. Secondly the most important thing is to check your 4x4 front and back tow hook are there and in good usable shape. Without tow hooks no one is advise to venture offroad. Thirdly, all offroad gears are recommended but as it's your first newbie drive so it's ok even if you dont have them. Once you get hang of this new hobby, get your gear sorted as Fred mentioned.

The following items are recommended for every drive, but if you don’t have them yet, let us know so we can advise you. - Air Compressor - Shovel (full size laborer shovel , not a small foldable one) - Two way UHF radio with ability to set the manual frequency. (We use 462.8875 MHz). - Off-road flag. - Sufficient water and smiles. We have spare radios for new joiners and for your first drive only the compressor and a shovel will do.     One GOLDEN tip for any Pajero 4x4 that doesn’t go off-road often: once a week, switch between the 2WD, 4H, 4HLc, and 4Lo setting for while. The solenoids and vacuum actuators tend to seize after a while when not being used regularly.

    You could try Satwa and put Chrome instead of a repaint job. A good chrome cover should last you a while. plus give the car a nice look.

    Considering longevity, I would suggest to go for a paint job especially if you intend to use this vehicle for the next few years. (It shouldnt cost you much if its only the side mirrors) Stickering options wont last and you will have to redo it in couple of months time (50 to 100 aed depending on the quality of the material used and the place)

    Copied from earlier post: You'll find lots of information on the wise web about this common Pajero issue. it's either: 1) The solenoids which are located in the engine compartment 2) The vacuum hoses between solenoid and the diaphragm 3) Stuck actuator (piston) that engages or disengages 4WD 4) Vacuum operated diaphragm 5) Sensor on the transfer case. For some more information (there might be slight differences between the Pajero generations) http://4wd.blogeasy.com/article.view.run?articleID=318776 PS Do note that: * On the Gen2 and Gen2.5 models (like mine and @Gaurav) the 4WD engaging is done purely 100% mechanical, so the sensors cannot cause real issues, they are only there as feedback for your dashboard indication. Only the switching between 2WD and 4WD is done with vacuum actuators. * On the later Pajero models, all functionality of switching between 4Lo, 4H, 4HLC, or 2WD is done by solenoids, because your 4WD shifter is not a mechically engaging unit. These models are more prone to issues, and the blinking lights really do mean something went wrong.

However if no absolute newbies sign up we might up the level depending on the convoy signed up. This time we will drive in Maliha / Kalba area that offers perfect opportunity to learn in very safe and easy tracks to medium rolling dunes. Looking for an easy relaxing drive for everyone with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow, hill climb, and ridge riding. Newbies and Fewbies will have a great chance to see and learn the real fun that off-roading offers in a very safe and organized environment. Since timing will be crucial I request everyone to respect everyone and be on time.     My wife also has it on her 2008 Pajero driver side, but not severe. Probably some wind turbulence due to the big shape of the mirror.

    I had this issue as well when I brought a brand new Pajero in 2010. It only got worse with time and I also got used to it with time.

    Maybe the alarm rang and they removed the fuse. Or just open the fuse box thinking they can short two wires under the steering to start the car as shown in movies. Next time leave the keys on sun visor, as that's the best place everyone leaves in Hollywood movies, so they dont break anything.
