@Shamil i could not be happier at this moment reading about this promotion, honestly more than any other I have seen today. You have been a massive supporter and help since we joined Carnity. We are all lucky to have your experience and character around, and your calmness and kindness mean every interaction is a pleasure. You deserve this big time buddy.

I have a bit of experience with CO2 tanks. I am not 100% sure I would like to be driving round with high pressurized aluminium tanks in the car being jostled and jolted all over the place. There's no fire risk adittedly and yes, we all have fire extinguishers in the car, but they are set at a much lower pressure level than these high pressure tanks. It's OK to have your tanks for diving, and driving home from the supermarket for making your fizzy drinks, but sitting in the car as you throw it over the dunes, I am not so sure. There is a reason that they have a warning triangle on the back of the lorries that transport them across country and they are not allowed on planes. I have just grown out of the inexpensive low quality compressor and have a second hand bush ranger. As @Gaurav says, it's small, has a bag to keep it in and can be stowed where you want if you have additional equipment needed. I was getting frustrated at how long the other compressor took and this one is quicker. I dwill admit that I do watch jealously as @Javier M deflates and inflates with his gizmos - but will put my investments in the car in higher priority spends before I allow this convenience to take precedence.

Thank you @Michael sammy and @Frederic ! By the way I changed the shoes on "The Beast" down to 18" (from 20"s) and put on some Cooper AT3's for better sand traction. Now countring down the minutes to our next drive... 😃

Since the first day I joined Carnity, I have been treated with the most respect, and found a very welcoming and comfortable environment, which encouraged me to join the off-road club. @Frederic It's so nice of you not only to remember, but to take the time to write this post and say those touching words. Thank you! For going beyond congratulating female members of the club, but showing that you do know more about us, that you took the time to reflect part of each one's personality and interests.

Wonderful @Shamil. Well deserved. You have grown a lot with your active participation during the drives and the forum. You should now look to take up more responsibilities in grooming the next set of fellow offroaders.

i have experimented with the whole onboard compressors for a year and i have quite a bit to share on this. I initially went for a camel chinese compressor and got it wired into the battery through the side panels. The setup was great until i shot the compressor once as i overworked it. After that, I replaced the compressor two more times and i gave up since i wasnt able to identify the reason why the compressors were dyingin this setup. I then went for the bushranger super max (which is not as fast as the camel chinese but way more reliable as it comes with 5 years warranty)and i have been happy ever since. But i now realize that the main culprit was the wire. The most critical element in this setup are the wires as they should deliver the required amperage to your compressor. If the power delivered is not sufficient, your compressor will work but not for long. So bottom line is that you could go for the camel chinese compressors but you will need to ensure that you get the right wires for the setup. My bushranger requires less amps than the camels, so the current wires do a great job, but if i swap it back to camel, then it will eventually die. However having said all of this, even though i have not personally used the arb twin pistons, i know that it is the best setup and there is a garage that is running a promotion right now whereby they are providing the unit and installation for 1999.

I won't lie. If I was told 6 months back that @Shamil would be among the Advanced level, I would have highly doubted it. I will thank @Gaurav bhai for pointing me in the right direction by looking at everything from an outsider point of view and making certain suggestions. But above all I would like to thank you @Shamil for keeping an open mind, open heart and discussing the underlying issues, I would also like to thank @Srikumar for giving his input during the chat. After our chat I have seen you make massive improvements and besides being a good contributor as a driver and all other aspects, you have shown enthusiasm in helping out during recoveries. I was very proud when @Wrangeld labelled you as a pop-out expert during a drive when I was not around. Heard so many people saying all good things about you and feel very satisfied to see that you have made such a vast improvement in such a short time. You have always been at the forefront and tried to contribute in a positive way, however now I am proud to see you as a complete all round off-roader. Well deserved promotion and looking forward to developing you further to an Expert and eventually a Marshal. Really well done @Shamil.

Totally agree. People tend to forget that due to the low voltage (12V) you are pushing a lot of amps through the wiring. To properly wire a double cylinder compressor i would advise 16mm2 as absolute minimum. Lesser than that your wire will heat up which results in less conductivity which then again results in a voltage drop, which then results in even more amps.

Even a car that belonged to a Sheikha (for her guards) didn't have the full history The process is definitely long and draining! not only because I've considered many other options (through recommendations from experts over here in Carnity: Land Cruiser, Prado, Pajero, Wrangler, FJ Cruiser, Xterra... over 125 posts to analyze...) before deciding to go for an Xterra Off-road model. It is true that full service history is scarce, specifying that as filter is possible though, only to reduce your results to very few. Still, that has proven not to be a guaranty that the car would be a good fit for me... I've test-driven over 30 cars the past year, taken around 4 cars to get checked by a mechanic as I was close to deciding that was the one... money spent on that obviously! And many hours searching in a few car websites, even Facebook groups... a lot of help from Carnity members as well, to whom I'm eternally thankful!!! Until I found the best deal for me, after deciding to check ads not only daily but from morning to evening, even when I was at work, as the good deals get sold within hours!!! (Lost many opportunities for calling a day or a few hours after the ad was posted...). So obsessing is essential, I'd say I'm extremely happy with the final result! Best of luck!

OK seems like all options have been well discussed now. Let me start with my experience with my reasoning's. I had on board compressor with air tank in my Nissan patrol SWB. It worked great but took lot of space and due to space constraint when things started stuffing around the compressor and tank with offroad beating things started to fail: Valve, switch, joiners, pipe and almost every week I use to get something or the other sorted. Then I removed the air tank and decided to live with on-board compressor alone, time difference was 4 minutes extra for all 4 tires inflation. But it was still a headache to store long hose pipes, joiner under seat in my dinky Patrol. When I sold that Patrol, I bought bushranger compressor that cost me now 1.5-2 min / tire. All tires within 10 min max. It wraps up in small bag and sit on one corner and take all the offroad abuse as everything is dismantled. Costed 700 (I think) and still working after 10 years now. If my existing bushranger dies (whenever), I will upgrade to more heavy duty bushranger, ARB, smitybilt compressor due to speed, ease of use, less space, less maintenance, less parts for to fail. Every option comes with their own pros and cons for different mindset so you pick yours and see which one makes you happy. All inflation under 2 min + expensive + space + maintenance All inflation under 5-6 min + space All inflation under 10 min

If you need speed why not install a normal air compressor with a small tank, like one of the little 10 litre ones and run it off an inverter? You can keep the tank full all the time and top it up as needed by flicking a switch.

I have a built in compressor by “Toyota”, it is actually from NSV. The airflow is low, nearly does the job for my 4 tires (gets very hot). My compressor is built in the sidewall of the trunk. As Javier mentioned, it should be in the car to avoid to be exposed to heat. Just be sure that it has enough space to breath. If I would invest, I would invest in the ARB double compressor. Reliable, warranty, high airflow. A gas bottle is interesting, my only concerns are; refil, maintenance, storing, mounting, costs.

I got mine done in Offroad Zone I recommend them of you have a jeep as they specialize in Jeeps, I do my maintenance there. If you have a different car you may want to check with Titan, Ramy or Icon. I can't remember what I paid. But the price you are showing there is not bad actually. I'm assuming that's from Ramy. There are plenty of shops you can pick.

I used to know a guy who used scuba cylinders he had a Patrol with big Cooper STTs and one fill would last him 3 to 4 drives and literally took seconds to inflate a tyre. She he regularly went diving he would get a refill at one of the scuba hear shops for like 30-40dhs. Gaurav might remember him from dubai4x4 days. Aboud.
