I declare - I am a TJ owner so take your conclusions knowing that. I am presuming both are stock. My vote TJ. It's a 4 litre and does not suffer anywhere as near as many of the problems that were asscoaited with the JK. Purely from the reliability point of view, the 4L was a better tested engine (used in the Cherokee as well) that has all the power you can want. You might get some additional creature comforts in the JK - but really, why are you buying a Jeep? If you want reliability in just about any situation my vote is the TJ. Now ... just wait for all the people to tell you never go for a Jeep, never mind which model.

Check engine mounts as first culprit to doubt that why it happen. For emergency repair Go down, remove that neck with screw driver and put cloth inside the suction tube that goes inside the manifold. Use super glue generously on inside the crack surface. Use araldite (two paste to mix) easily available in groceries too. Use that on top of cracked surface and let it dry for 2 hours. Then use a breathable strong clothe, like the crepe bandage and wrap on whole neck. Then cover whole neck with strong masking/duct/aluminium tape. Then put several cable ties on each ring. Install back and it would be good for long time even with 6k rpm but still get this neck change as soon as market open after eid holidays.

Never buy the first years of any new generation of any vehicle. Because they are all bogged down with unforseen bugs and niggles. Very few manufacturers seem to get this right. Better to always last couple of years of the generation because by the end of the run almost everything has been sorted out and will give you the least amount of issues. Not always the case but a general rule of thumb. So in this case the TJ is the end of line for that generation and almost free from most squibbles and the JK is just the start of the JK generation. Another advantage is ( and again not always the case ) by the end of one generation in order to move as many old units out of the way before the new one arrives, almost all optional bells and whistles usually become standard spec on the last year or two. Going back to the OP a TJ would be preferable with the inline 4.0 with proven reliability over the stop gap V6 of the early JK

Due to the basic experience required to read the sand and have basic navigational sense, this drive is only suited to the Intermediate and above level off-roaders. You will be learning the basics of leading the convoy in the desert in three different steps: Advance sand reading, plan your lead, plan your exits. Hello Everyone, Please see this simple arrangement to hold the flag pole. Its the cheapest one. It made by using the U bolt and an angle. I am sure it will hold the flag properly. It is less than 10 AED. There are flag pole and flag available at 50 AED in dragon mart. Please see the shop photo It is just opposite the S & D shop mentioned earlier by Frederic. The flag is light weight and very slim. It is 2 mtr/6.5 ft.So total cost will be less than 60 aed for all this. Please see photos below. The spring in photo comes with Flag pole. I had fixed this to U bolt and angle so I can just screw and unscrew the flag pole. Hope it will help

2003 Pathfinder is a very good choice. Go for 3.5 that is more capable than 3.3 as you intend to use it in sand, so the more power is highly recommended. @Fuad I think has 3.5, please comment on pricing if you think this 9K for 140k driven seems fine. As per 17 years old age 140k is quiet a low mileage (if its real and not reversed). Check it properly. These are all kit cars based on regular road cars. Some good, some not so good. See if you can guess the original cars.

I start seein the TJs as a business opportunity. There are people out there really willing to pay money for these cars. We can get together few interested people, will buy all the TJs available at market and will put them for sale when the new season starts for 30-35.000AED. In Turkey there are people really doing this. They are coming together buying the majority of the some special cars outhere(like S2000, 350Z etc.) and setting the price.

It's not a bad idea if you know what you are doing and know the market well. There is a guy not far from where I live who does this with Lexus LS older generations from 96-06. At any given time he has 10-12 without plates and I'm thinking freshly imported lexus's outside his villa And local crowd is crazy about these because it's ultimate reliable luxury at bargain basement prices But a fully equipped which is called the Ultra clean low milage late ls430 can go for as much as 35-40k

You should pick the JK for a number of reasons. Jks will not suffer as much heating as TJs. Automatic transmission in TJs will give up at one point if it's not a certain transmission number (I can't remember the transmission number) Hopefully it is the 3.6 JK not the 3.8. I didn't buy my Jeep there I just do the maintenance. They only use Mopar original parts hence maintenance price can be higher than other shops but I have peace of mind it won't break down on me in the desert. I've never had an issue with maintenance. They guys there know in and out jeeps.

I think @Javier M bought his Jeep from offroad zone. So Javier do you recommend there warranty, does it means something to overprice by 40%?

I'm afraid all drives are full at the moment, please try to sign in faster next time. There are more even cheaper and stock , in good conditions. But the problem is they are not coming down on price. I would say a stock TJ in good condition should cost you a max 20k. Nothing more.

I was tempted to say go for that one. On a serious note can you please share more details. Whether they are stock or have any mods on them, are they automatic or manual and how many kilometres on them. Have you test driven either one, what si the asking price for these. Most importantly which colour they are. We all know that depending on the colour of the vehicle you can get extra power locked in.

Jeep's are jeep and there is no second doubt that they will eventually break and have their own set of reliability issues whichever year you go to. With my little knowledge of Jeep, as i'm not a jeeper JK make more sense because of immense power gain and marginal better approach and departure angle plus newer engineering is always efficient. These all three are super important aspect for offroading. TJ - 190 hp vs JK - 285 hp. Btw, just to be clear what type offroading you are into or planning to get into? As a TJ owner I can tell you it's not comfortable like a patrol or xterra but it is capable in the sand and I NEVER worry about it getting a bit beaten about. Prerfable that it is not, but not the end of the world if something breaks. As you move from newbie to Fewbie you cannot be worried about what ,might happen to your precious metal. If you climb the ladder further, it's not going to be easier on your car. You need to be focused on the driving and not if the back bumper is still in place. Your daily drive will lose value by you using it in the desert. Your weekend warrior probably gains value, because anyone buying it from you wants to know it is sand trained. I look at it this way. I do not think you would encourage your wife to wear her Jimmy Choos in the desert. But taking your massively expensive car ...
