The Margham Loop Exploration Anyone driving with navigation software woould have to agree that we did loop today. For that, no apologies. A new newbie territory, where few have driven before (did you notice that there were not so many cross tracks here), surrounded by challenging technical dunes required a certain type of drive where we could practice (as promised) dune crossing, dune driving, climbing, descending and navigating pockets of soft and slipping sand. So there was a lot of spaghetti on the map and a concentration on one particular area of dunes (approaching it from different sides) so we could practice all these basic techniques. For the more experienced drivers, close to Fewbie status, the drive should have been just a little but 'boring' - so they could finesse theier skills and get themselves ready for the next level. For the new newbies, this should have been that little but more challenging than the Absolute Newbie drive, because you had to sort out problems yourself, or get assistance to sort them out. It did feel a bit like a Jeep convention at the start of the drive, the Pajeros, FJ cruisers and Land Rover/Cruiser felt a bit like we were barging in on their day, but the mix of vehicles was good, because it shows once again, that even though the Jeep is in an incredible machine, it's not just the machine that makes the driver. @Yasas Dharmadasa first time 2nd lead, and I am afraid, you paid the price a bit for that. One moment of lack of concentration and a little too much speed ... I hope that the garage can put all of those pieces back into place in the right order. New challenges await once you get the car back together. @DANIEL NOGUEIRA you really have that beast under control and drive really flawlessly today. Watch out for the more technical dunes in the future challenges. All that power is great to get you up and over and through most things ... except for the tigh technical dunes. @Arda Yagcioglu one of those for whom the next level is calling. You have the basics well under control, that's clear. @Gaurav Soni the LWB Pajero is a great machine, especially when it has been 'chip fixed' like yours. You need to use the power under your foot more judiciously understanding when to use more and when to utilise what is available. @Ahab Shamaa I think you really felt that the tension of not knowing if you were going to make it onto the drive was worthwhile by the end. Great drive today. You really are starting to understand the power and potential of the FJ. @Athula Dharmadada Please remember that sometimes you need to to hold back your enthusiasm when on a drive. Having a tool like the Jeep gives a great feeling of confidence, and your driving shows this. Apart from that, great performance today. @Manjinder Singh our late late convoy partner! I am delighted you made it. Considering how many drives you have under your belt, the control you show in the FJ is admirable. Soem decent receoveries today under guidance. @Nithin Vaidir sorry you lost the front of the bumper today. We try, but can never guarantee that the vehicle comes out of the desert unscathed. Apart from that the control you ae showing with the LC is good. Hope that the family enjoyed the trip as much as you. @Karthik Krishnakumar you are getting more and more to grips with the car on each drive - watch your braking, watch your power delivery. You have every reason to be confident after your earlier drives. @Goutam our second yellow SWB Jeep - it's never easy driving at the end of a long convoy and the recovery we did together out of the soft sand hopefully shows you no matter where you end up you can be recovered. @Archibald Jurdi excellent job with the manual TJ, especially as you were at the back with some churned up tracks. You are really imporoving drive after drive. @Jeepie as ever impeccable. Thanks for doing a brilliant job keeping us all under control, sorting out the stucks and getting me out of trouble a few times. @Wrangeld a good newbie lead, that offered challenges to the new newbies and meant that we were not standing waiting for too long. Nice big play dunes and soem good practice - be careful of stopping on soft sand and getting stuck! Thanks everyone for your iinput. Looking forward to seeing you all in the sand again soon.

Convoy 1 Drive It was indeed with great enthusiasm that I was looking forward to this drive. And this drive indeed made my Friday morning☺️🌞! As it is, the Qudra region never disappoints in terms of its extremely soft sand, even though I thought that the chilly weather would maybe mean forgiving sand... Helas not really😬. So we drove along the soft sand quite enjoyably and as we go on our lead @Brette takes us through testing areas with the techincalities here and there..some of which we passed with flying colors, others were stucks and refusals with great learning outcomes. Overall it was excellent drive! Thank you @Brette☺️. Special thanks also goes to @Janarthan, @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Anish S for supporting the drive...cheers to the amazing team spirit👍 Great job by rest of the convoy... nicely done👍

Dear @Brette, dear @Ashy, today's drive in Al Qudra was as complicated, with several stucks and refusals and even a mechanical failure, as it was enjoyable due the very mild temperatures. We did spend quite some time waiting for recoveries (some of which non trivial ones) to be successfully concluded, but it was nevertheless a very nice drive, especially in the 2nd half when we reached a more technical area along with higher dunes. @Janarthan was all over the place helping everyone with great enthousiasm and energy. While others may have waited a bit, he had a very busy morning 😂😂. Well done! The whole convoy must be congratulated as everyone was well disciplined, patiently waiting long minutes during multiple recoveries and showing a good spirit of cooperation, great passion and teamwork when heavy shoveling was required and some reasoning was needed to identify the best recovery strategy . As @Luca Palanca Falsini noticed, @Abu Muhammad's gigantic Toyota Sequoia made my Nissan Patrol look like a toy car in comparison 😂😂.. loosing the power steering on such a beast was definitely a challenge: kudos to @Abu Muhammad therefore, who managed very well on his way out after the mechanical failure. From the back of the convoy I could watch the last few cars, who did all very well, despite the soft and sometimes churned up sand. @Franco Swart, @Rajeevan Vickneswaran, @Luca Palanca Falsiniand @Hennie Schoeman all drove very smoothly with very few difficulties, making good learning of the experiences by those in the first half of the convoy. What a day! Starting with difficulty to find the route to the dunes although we were able to see them from distance.. our route took us through two nice horse farms, multiple camel farms, and paid a visit to a family who wasn’t obviously happy with 11 cars barging into their little farm. area was kind of surrounded by fences so took us sometime through very tight tech area full of vegetation until we finally managed to get the open dunes and enjoyed nice sidies and @Gaurav took some shots for the convoy. I also hit the jackpot today with a record 3 stucks two of which in very nasty tight pockets not fit for the black beast so enjoyed learning new recovery techniques thanks to @Gaurav, @Tbone, and @anand. through our way out trying to extend hands to the other convoy who had a major failure in one of the cars.. countless number of refusals and stucks took place and by the time we were out @Brette’s convoy managed to safely recover it and hit the tarmac. lots of learning and unexpected challenges .. all good to build up a more resilient offroading skills. thanks @Tbone and @Gaurav for leading .. @anand and @luwaimn for supporting the convoy

Dear @Lorenzo Candelpergher& @Franco Swart Thank you so much for your help and advise in a calm, friendly and professional manners Appreciated very much. Also thanks to @Brette and @Janarthan and everybody else for fun drive and great teamwork whenever needed. After researching about the mechanical problem that I had today it looks like I’m going to need a new steering rack as it’s apparently a common problem for Tundra and Sequoia 2010-2014 models but for sure I will find out after visiting the workshop.

Almost technical ( convoy 1 : @Brette ) I woke up 10 min before my alarm , in a second I thought I missed it 🤭... luckily I didn’t 😅 .... eventually reached the meeting point correctly as the second convoy ( convoy 2 : Vinod @Tbone ) was at sight slightly ahead. After deflation flagging up and briefing every one from both convoys were ready as the flying sweep @Gaurav passed back and forth greeting the drivers and making sure that everything is going fine. as we passed @Tbone convoy we carried on the track till our lead took the turn to the left and we started the action. It run “almost technical “ .. this meant for me as I describe it controlled fine driving with gentle swinging between gas and breaks. This was my third fewbie drive and I would call it my “ technical drive “ kept it on 2 and seldom hit the break . Great learning .we faced many refusals and stucks and one pop out and all this was ok till . @Abu Muhammad faced a problem in the power steering the last hour before finish . Somehow sorted till we were out safely and later on I passed him in alqudra road while going home and seemed the vehicle was ok. @Brette thank you for the ride and it was good that I didn’t miss it special thanks to @Janarthan and @Lorenzo Candelpergher for all the help and patience in recoveries and the technical issues thank you all and wish you pleasant day cheers 👍🚙🙏🏻 P.S : some clips and pict to be edited and to come bit later https://www.relive.cc/view/vQvyD9JQ34q

Any garage would be fine. Just ensure that you put an original mopar clutch plate, pressure plate and pilot bearing. While you might get away with a half depressed clutch on the road, you will always have a burnt clutch while offroading. Clutch should be either fully in or out. No other way and if you struggle in 4 Hi while trying to self recover put the car in 4 Lo immediately and get yourself out. Your today situation brings back memory of my first drive with a manual transmission where I roasted it completely 😬

Great different dunes , its was fun, even the soft sand was a good set up to keep the power under control so I could move and not digging down.. slide slopes very fun as always... thanks @Wrangeld. Hope to see you soon on the fewbie drives...

DRIVE REPORT A beautiful active morning 😆 An Absolute Newbie drive always comes with its surprises, but is all worth it because of the smiles of the new members at the end of the drive. This morning was a bit eventful and these things happen sometimes. The desert comes with its own surprises. The first surprise was when @Javid Ahamed his Ford Explorer had a first hiccup/stuck a few dunes inside. After looking for the 4x4 buttons we finally had to pull the car back out as we realized it was a 2-Wheel drive car. A little while later, @Antonio Rivera his beautiful black Wrangler starting smoking and going from the smell it could only be the clutch that got fried. We tried waiting a bit, and even tried to drive a little portion in low gear, but eventually the only option was to pull it out back to the road and get the recovery truck. @Federico Galbieri did fantastic as my second lead, listening perfectly to my instructions over the radio and re-routing where needed. Well done ! @Dr Tariq Mahmood with the White Prado was gliding effortlessly through the dunes. Very impressive ! @frederic demolder the Landrover Discovery Sport is a very capable offroader, but does not have a good approach angle and clearance For Newbie level drives you will be fine, You drove really well today and was not afraid of shoveling. Super attitude ! @Jonathan Maumy with the beautiful Black Montero Sport you did amazing too and will probably get addicted soon @Federico De Chirico that Fortuner was a beast that woke up as soon as we deflated it a bit more. Well driven buddy ! @Vinojps with the nice red Wrangler drove effortlessly today. Nice work !! @Rob Harper and @Jack Thomas two superdudes who both drove amazing ! @Sandi88 you have driven before in the desert and it shows, but please understand that safety is our prime focus and leaving the convoy and going for a play is not acceptable. @Vishnu Sasidharan the same applies, where Vanessa has clearly told you to stay within the convoy you again ignored her instructions. This is not OK guys. We need to make sure all our drivers who are under our wing are safe and are not getting themselves into trouble. Unfortunately the COVID regulations were also not followed by some drivers/passengers , as we requested to everyone to wear a mask in case you need to exit the car. Please do take note that is this occurs for the next drive we will ban members who keep thinking they are above the law. Only by following the government rules we will be able to continue these drives. Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. Drives are announced every Sunday at 11 am, and they go live on Sunday at 7 pm. Due to the high demand, these drives get full in about 10 minutes, so please be online at 7 pm to book your spot. For the next drives, please bring along a deflator, pressure gauge, flag and radio as a minimum. Thank you @Ajiesh George Kannankara you’re right it’s probably a battery issue. I’ve asked a 24/7 electrical technician to come out right now with a new battery. Hopefully I can have it fixed tonight..

@Salarios hope this is Y62. I came across the same issue last month just before the morning drive. This happened the next day when some additional spot lights were fixed in the car from a local garrage. I tried even to jump start, checked fuses and tried everything I can. Later I took it to the service center and they said it’s the battery. They replaced the buttery which was under warranty and the car works fine there after. No idea why it still didn’t jumpstart when we tried..

Hi all, Thank u @Chaitanya D for a smooth and superb drive. I was a bit late to reach the meeting point and thought would miss the drive, but fortunately had the contract number of @Mukundan Nair and managed to b at the spot at the last minute. Thank you @Ajiesh George Kannankarafor the help in deflation. From the start the drive was superb with some small dunes and later with some technical terrains and at last with some exciting sideys. Enjoyed the drive from start to the end. It was a drive with minimum refusals and stucks and @Desert Dweller and @Anish S cud manage them well. Once again thank you @Chaitanya D for a wonderful and memorable drive and hope to catch up in some upcoming events. Kudos guys , keep cool 👍👏👏

Hi Frederic, the recovery truck arrived on time, so by tomorrow I will take it to the garage, any recommendations for garage in Dubai.

Personally, a good experience. Last time I was alone in the car. This time with family. Learnt some good techniques about maneuvering. Feel bad about my car though. But makes me want to do more drives and take care of the car at the same time. Hats off to @Wrangeld and @Jeepie for this drive. I now also know the desert is new even for the experienced. Dear Desertnauts. Ready to explore an area rarely seen before!? Do not forget to wear your adventurer's hat, as we still know very little about what we'll find in this "Sand to Mountain" drive. There are numerous trails that we'll try to follow, with occasional detours in the open terrain. Occasionally, I may have to stop the convoy and exit the car to evaluate the best route. We may either be satisfied with what we find, or disappointed, and never think of driving here again. In any case, a certain degree of uncertainty awaits us. We are planning to exit around 10:30/11:00. Our convoy order will be the following: @Islam Solimanwill take Second Lead position @Syed Raza Hussain will start at #3 @Rizwan Waheed will start at #4 @Abu Muhammad will be #5 @Senthil Kumar will drive at #6 @asifk will be Center Forward @Dagdag Sofiane will be #8 @Tero Vallas is going to be #9 @Rizwanm2 will take #10 @Biju Abdul is driving at #11, and @Chaitanya D will Sweep the convoy. The meeting and deflation point is just off a small tarmac road, to the right of the main highway, leading from E611 toward Al Ghail. As there have been road works in the area, make sure you follow the signs to the new Ritz Carlton Al Wadi Desert Resort (the meeting point is on the road leading to it) Upon arrival please tune in to Carnity Channel 2 (446.031). Make sure you arrive with as full a tank as possible, and with all the necessary gear for this driving level. Besides the compressor, this means having at least a good shovel, and possibly a kinetic recovery rope (not yet mandatory as Fewbies, but recommended) Looking forward to seeing you Saturday morning, I wish you a nice start of the weekend.

@Ajiesh George Kannankara the dust on any drive does not settle without your brilliant talent in photography and your video. Amazing shots and love the angles and terrains. Seems like we were out of this world. Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories. To date at times when I have nothing to do, I go through the album of old drives and videos on @Carnity YouTube channel to revive every drive. These memories are priceless and help me to recall the wonderful times, and something for me to show my grand children in a few years time. Thank you.

Hi @Manjinder Singh ... it's a big question every week about how we can accommodate the wishes of so many committed drivers. At one level, yes, the easy solution is to say we open up the drives to as many people as sign up. The challenge we then have is two fold. (probably more, but let's start with these two). The first is safety. With a 15 car convoy, the front and back of the convoy are a long way from each other and the experience of the front of the convoy can be very, very different to the back. At the front, you drive on nice freshly created takcs for you by the drive lead and drive at a very leasurely pace. At the back, you are looking for a clean track that has not been churned up by the cars in front and having to drive much faster to keep up (concertina effect) so it's a bit of a race to keep up and deal with the sand. The second is simply the potential enjoyment of the convoy has a correlation with the amount of stucks and refusals. If you add 5 more cars, you increase exponentially the chances of delays due to problems. As drive leads, we love managing recoveries because we learn a lot from it as does the driver being recovered. If, however, you are 500 meters away in a different part of the convoy sitting patiently waiting, eventually, when that happens 5, 6 or ten times, it becomes a little less fun. I am all for getting as many people out into the sand as possible. It is one of the ultimate most liberating hobbies I know, so I understand 100% that you want to be out there. The challenge on this drive in particular is that for the first time, we are exploring with Newbies. That means that there may be more stucks and refusals than ususal. If everyone on the drive is OK with the risk that it lasts till 12.00 or beyond, then maybe we can extend the numbers - but I hope you see the dilemma. It's not that we do not want to add more drivers, it's that we have to tink about how do we manage all those drivers. If the drive is without incident, that's great. If there's a problem. Less so. I am open to any ideas or suggestions you might have.

With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.
