Drive Report I find it extremely difficult to describe the experience Liwa brings: alternating between awe and respect, to fear for the unknown, exhilaration when we’ve crossed a monstrous dune range with the whole team, but also sadness when we have to exit a team member that was performing well and had his adventure cut short after few hours. As i mentioned in the briefing the same morning; this terrain brings extreme challenges for senior experienced off-roaders, let alone for members who started off-roading only a few months prior. I might have scared you all beforehand but i think after this kind of drive you’ve all come to understand the trepidations i had when we started to climb the first massive dunes and we realized there was no way back. I had a fantastic second lead in @Wrangeld who had a busy day together with his sidekick @Lorenzo Candelpergher . We shoveled and winched and eventually made it all out in time to meet up with the other Carnitees at Moreeb. To be honest: ALL of you massively exceeded my expectations that day, from @Yasas Dharmadasa and @Athula Dharmadada never giving up, @Ranjan Das taking the Discovery to undiscovered places (unfortunately that came with damage), @Lucky sAm @Lorenzo Candelpergher @Malachy McGrogan and @Abu Muhammad navigating their massive beasts through this terrain which deserves massive respect, and @jodha singh shekhawat bringing a new 4x4 he bought that same week. @siddharth maheshwari was in his element and took the terrain without much hassles. We managed to cover 48kms in this unforgiving terrain, which is simply amazing and I am so proud of all of you and thankful for showing up and giving it all you had. At the last climb towards the backside of Moreeb time was running a bit late and suddenly I saw and heard @Asif Hussain his convoy doing the last kms by road which was a brilliant idea and we followed in suit to make sure we had time to meet up with all the other convoys in time at Moreeb. Trip Report : The Liwa Experience Liwa is an experience that every offroader should have, as Liwa challenges not just the car but the driver as well in every possible manner. Not only does one come across massive dunes, you encounter super soft sand which tests your patience and ability to overcome the obstacle as a team. Congratulations to all the Newbies that participated yesterday in the Liwa Moreeb Drive. We made history by being probably the first club to bring Newbies to the actual Liwa Moreeb Dunes. Credit for this concept goes to @Gaurav and I was proud and privileged to be a part of this adventure. With some very good coordination and team work we reached the top of the Moreeb Dunes by using the step technique.This was possible due to the good quality of Newbies that participated plus the fantastic support team ( @Pancho@Janarthan @Tbone @Vanessa8580 ) that were brave enough to take up the challenge and make ifhe entire drive a super success. All the particpating drivers brought out their best throughout the day and the cherry on the cake was the scaling of the monstrous Tal Moreeb (Scarry Hill) dune. By 4 pm we were joined by the remaining 4 other Carnity convoys. It was truly a wonderful sight to have 5 convoys (55 cars) of Carnity Liwa drive at the top of the Tal Moreeb dune. Excellent drive

Overnight camping in Sharjah is still not permitted if I remember correctly. In Dubai Al Qudra is your best option but it’s extremely busy nowadays. Have a look at our entry points of the Absolute Newbie drives. These are nice places to enter and you can venture deeper inside but make sure you are with 3 capable 4x4 cars at least and one has experience in handling recoveries in a safe way.

The Liwa Drive was like a dream come true. Thank you Carnity for giving us this wonderful opportunity. Hello Everyone, Yesterday’s drive was indeed an experience like no other. Thank you @Frederic, @Wrangeld and @Lorenzo Candelpergher for your leadership and support. Dear All Liwa-Conquerers - thank you too for your patience, concern and support extended. We managed to get the tow truck, which took almost 4 hours due to the holidays, and a taxi for ride back home but our hearts somehow remained back on the sands of mighty Liwa! Wanting to return already! Thank you all! See you in the next drive.

Hello, Since I'm still 2 drives away from making into to Fewbie level i don't have any Carnity drives to join this weekend, presumably because some people are taking some time off and others just went to Liwa, this is fine except i'd love to go out anyway. Anyone know any newbie friendly activities where i can take like 3 cars out and do some stuff? looking to do some camping over night if possible and as safely as possible. Doesn't have to be dune bashing or a desert drive necessarily, just looking to venture into the great outdoors.

@Islam Soliman I think Tero was referring to the first high slip face we descended, not Moreeb dune. @Tero Vallas welcome to Liwa fan club! If it was possible I would spend all my weekends there!

Overnight camping is allowed only in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as of now. Make sure you dont go too much inside the tarmac/ the tracks unless u have atleast 3 cars to venture in capable of handling refusals or stucks

Hi all ! Wow ! Liwa is different, for sure. First bigger down hill slope was awesome, was the name of it Scary Hill, @Islam Soliman / @Emmanuel ? Or Scary hell ... 😄 This trip raised the desire to go back there. I hope sometime soon.. Thank you @Emmanuel, @Desert Dweller and @Jeepie leading us safely. Good work ! @Jeandre Bezuidenhout and @Jorge Stepniak Felippe while driving the sabkhas in some places there could be lot of dust. So may be you would want your tops on your jeeps, just mentioning . If you take a track slightly away it should be okay ,but depends on how wide an area we get

Hi, By now you would have half as sleep and ready with alarm to wake up at 2am and head to Ghantoot to spent some time for entry to ABD and then 4 hr drive to spot. As advised In the drive loop that good/adequate rest is must before the adventure liwa drive which you can enjoy/concentrate/safe drive on the empty quarter . All the best guys and safe drive

Hello everyone ! I started from Dubai at 2 pm today and it took me aprx. 50 Mins to cross Ghantoot when i already had my test done yesterday. Now i am staying in Millennium Central Mafraq Hotel, Abu Dhabi and Shall start at 5 am to reach at the meeting spot after filling the tank . If anyone else staying here please reach out . Sorry for the incident and glad to know that you are safe. Based on the video, i personally think that a longer approach was needed to climb especially when you have a heavier vehicle. The approach and angle to climb the dune look sharp, it was a too sudden climb to actually gain enough momentum to slide slope, criss cross or ridge ride. You will notice there was another track few meters before you started the climb, it is better to take a smoother path by starting to climb earlier and gradually with enough momentum. If there is a loss of momentum and if you are fishtailing, steer down smoothly towards the tail and descend. Lastly, in such situation, sudden turn and brake are very risky. You can find plenty of spots all along Tal Moreeb Road. If you reach by night I would advise you to stay close to the road.

Alhamdulillah I survived a rollover that happened yesterday. I've been watching the dashcam recording and trying to remember what I did wrong, but my brain seems to block the memory of the moments before it happened, so I'm reaching out to the experts here, what could be the cause of my rollover? *dashcam video attached below Some stuff that I can think of: a. Did I lose momentum? The bottom speed timestamp says I went from 48km/h, 46, 44, 37km/h before rolling over. b. Did I get a tyre pop-out? When I got out of the car, both of my left tyres popped out. I had to use a jack and fill them up to 40psi to make the tyres pop-in back again and to drive the car outside the desert. But maybe the left tyres popped out due to the rollover to the left? If that so, why are my right tyres intact (right tyres didn't pop out). I was driving with 15psi all tyres btw. c. At the 00:02 footage, you can see the Jeep in front of me swerved to the left. What the camera didn't show was that the Jeep went on drifting on my left side instead of exiting gracefully with the nose down first. Basically in a quick moment I turned my face to the left, seeing a car on my left side and scared that if I also exit-left-with-nose-first to go with gravity, I might crash into the Jeep... could I have done something wrong with my reflex? Like maybe letting go of the gas pedal to slow down cause afraid of crashing with the car on the left side. Someone said "look front when driving off-road and don't be distracted by left and right sightseeings." I should have focus straight and not be afraid of my left side. d. I was the last of the convoy, so nobody was behind me, otherwise maybe that person could tell from behind what went wrong... PatrolRoll.mp4
