  1. Trip Report @Ranjan Pattanaik really sorry to learn about your emergency, that left us with lucky 13 on a Friday morning. Woke up to a very pleasant morning as I drove to the deflation point to find everybody maintaining Social Distancing. As we deflated and got our flags up high it was time for a briefing. With a quick briefing and getting everyone in their convoy position we were off. As promised we started easy and kept leveling up as we drove through. I must say that the support and the convoy on the day allowed me to drive at the highest at the Newbie level. As we made our way through some nice smooth untouched dunes, we were also faced with some bushy nasty ones. We did get some play time and everybody impressed me with how well they understand their vehicles. I must thank the Marshals they have been with to handle their vehicles so well. We even managed to have some play time in our favourite area and left it in time for those behind us to enjoy. As we crossed over to the other side we gave it our all to climb the Fossil Rock. To my surprise finally after 4 months we found a path covered with sand going straight down. Being a Newbie drive it was a new experience for most convoy members. They all managed it well with a little help from @Shamil guiding everyone from above. If the convoy felt this was exciting they had no idea what was in store for them. We kept marching on towards Faya with just 1 stuck and very few refusals. Before we knew it we had all 13 cars on top of Faya. What an amazing sight it was. At this point we headed down to try and reach up from the front face. Although it was fun learning exercise, but with heat increasing and Friday prayer time close we decided to head out, inflate and head home. @Serafino was an excellent second lead and I was just so relaxed having him right behind me. Ready to take a diversion or stop as required. @Jasim Khumi back after some time has not lost the touch. His Pajero almost as small as his own frame seems like they're made for each other.@soumyasaklani is not one to give up. Just loved to see him take some caution and in the process getting some refusals. But taking it in his stride as lessons and kept on moving. @prajupramod seemed to be one with his Land Cruiser, although big and heavy but always on the move. Always looking to conquer one dune after the next and marching on without any major issues. @Osama Al Hamwi was a pleasure to have once again. His smile was so bright his Land Cruiser seemed to not disappoint him so he would not loose his amazing smile. Me teasing him being Humvee driving an LC200 was a bit late to realise, but nevertheless hilarious once understood. @Shamil was my Centre Forwardfor the day, which gave me lot of confidence. In turn I ended up taking advantage of him and he obliged helping endlessly to keep the convoy moving. @Lawrence_Chehimi was in his Y62, I now declare him to be the Lawrence of Arabia. He was impressive handling his Y62, if after @Lorenzo Candelpergher I would say Lawrence was amazing. @Nafiz with his LX470 was another survivor as he never gave up. Faced with refusals but never saw hi. Give up. After watching him the saying comes to mind "Try and try until you succeed". @Daniel Rodas was the bad boy. He and his Rebel did not have the word impossible in their dictionary. He kept rebelling dune after dune to see him Rock the amazing machine everywhere.@Ben84 quietly but surely kept rolling with the convoy in his Wrangler limousine. He was a treat to watch whenever I had the opportunity. Rubicon was his second name for the day and he really used it as well as I've ever seen anyone do it. @Pacific aka Falcon was a high flyer and boy did he clock on some miles on our journey today. He was full of enthusiasm which was contagious enough to keep the convoy wagging. @Abu Muhammad was my eyes and ears at the back end. His sweep duties have once again saved the day. It is such a pleasure to see someone from a higher level come and support a Newbie drive. Hope you all have the best of what is left of your weekend and a promise to see you all again soon.

  2. Wow! What a nice drive this was 😀 Dr. @Mohamed Seidam, you can relax now. We won’t be needing Rashid’s services after all 🤣 The drive was extreme in all senses, but @Srikumar kept it safe and feasible with clear instructions and open communication. The drive was intense from start to finish and the drivers had to stay concentrated and focused to be able to keep up. The rhythm was much brisker than normal drives, and as a result, the slightest delay (refusal or re-route) would cause us to lose the trail of the convoy. In fact, @Srikumarhad to graciously double back a few times to fetch us stragglers 😂 I was planning on using my GoPro on its maiden drive today, but I ended up scraping that idea to stay focused on this challenging drive 😀 All fellow drivers @Christian Andras, @Ilya Golubinsky,@MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ & @Jorge Stepniak Felippe drove very well and with control. Most of the stucks/refusals were self recoveries, except for my cresting that earned me a star from Sri and a nice tug from Craig 🤪 Last but not least, @Craig Finlayson had his work cut out for him today, and he really rose to the occasion. Great job Craig in keeping the convoy moving, helping, recovering, re-routing and leading the back of the convoy at times. I felt safe knowing you’re right behind me 😀 The extreme drive caters to a particular type of driving appetite, and is definitely not for everyone. Having said that, the extreme drive is definitely for me and I would happily participate in one when it’s offered again. Good seeing you all today, and I hope that your weekend continues to be as great as it started with this wonderful drive 😎

  3. Today was really nice drive. Despite extremely hot weather for March we had lots of fun. 6 driver was ready to leave at 6.30am so we left around 6.35. There was some late comers reached us trough radio around 6.40 but as per Carnity rules we can`t wait for anyone. We had to leave otherwise it would be disrespect for the people were ready to leave at 6.30. Anyway we found our way to beautiful Big Red. We had few refusals but everyone managed to handle the big dunes. After that we came to front side of Big Red where we pushed our climbing abilities. From Big Red we start driving towards to Pink Rock. Drivers were so flawless we didn`t even touch our radios for long time. Once we reach to Pink Rock we made some climbs. Man that Tundra was looking amazing, sounding amazing and climbing amazing. Anyway we start moving to Suwaydan area where our little Jimny start shining. That thing had hard time at long climbs but impossible to get it stuck in technical dunes. Anyway overall that Jimny shocked everyone. It reached every point with all other V6 and V8 cars. Suwaydan was scenic drive with trees, bushes and camels around. From Suwaydan we found our way to Faya. We were lucky to find the Faya empty. We had several climbing attempts and since still we have time we drove bit further to my famous Bowl. After playing in the bowl and driving around the Faya we reached safely to the Exit. Thank you all for joining. You guys were amazing. Special thanks for @Nivin for his fabulous support. I am unable to share the drive log since my phone got overheated and closed while recording the track.

  6. @Wrangeld @Jeandre Bezuidenhout @KalahariThank you for a super drive today! The trip felt like we were supported by 3 marshals!! I know you didn’t sign up for a workout @Kalahari @Jeandre Bezuidenhout however you left us feeling a complete comfort/confidence at the back of the convoy -thankyou. I didn’t say much during the whole drive, I was concentrating as the route was challenging and a faster pace for me, however the main reason was I was enjoying the @Shehab Alawadhi and @Arman show! You two are a gift to any convoy as you both really do make it a laugh the whole ride! My personal favorites ... @Shehab Alawadhi offering his washboard abs as a jack-board, being branded the bridge maker for his unselfish and consistent flattening of dunes and both of them doing pull ups and dips on the TJ as one of the group was being recovered! ... there were many more hilarious moments and thank you both for the energy and great vibes throughout! @Wrangeld drives are famed for being technical torture (my motivation for joining them ) so massive kudos to @Shehab Alawadhi for being a SL with the boat and managing it with such poise and control... seriously impressive! I was excited to have a chance to use the ATRAC butting at the beginning of the ride ... it felt like a magic button!! It was great to be with some old newbie/fewbie friends @Danish Mohammad @N@ved ... And my favorite Jeep has been the TJ so to be sandwiched in the convoy by @Arman and @N@ved made me feel like I was cheating on my FJ at times! Thanks again @Wrangeld for what was a challenging, technical, fast and fun ride! I’ll try and speak up a bit more on future drives (and write less)

  9. @Rob Harper with his Tundra is amazing. He was with us during our Mahafiz drive with @Tbone. He was right behind me and man the beast is like a meek toy in the hands of @Rob Harper. Never seen anyone handling such a beast with so ease. He sure knows how to tame a beast. @Tbone had to comment he has only seen 1 man driving a beast like this which is @Francois Germishuys.

  10. It looks I got this sand bug long time back ( Dady work trips in empty quarter ) and Carnity just triggered the hibernating bear inside of me , I guess my little Abdallah is just on the same path like grandpa and papa 😅

  11. Trust me its better to let her drive so she joins too, otherwise wifey drive joining quota last 2-3 drives as a passenger. I learned offroading for my wife and then after 3 drives she got bored and I got the sand bug for life.

  12. @Tbone don't have words to describe the fun we all had during your drive. Short convoy more enjoyment. @Mario Cornejo, @Rob Harper, @Anvar Sadath Bekal all driving good. Not even one stuck to free the hands from the wheel. The entire drive I couldn't smoke as both my hands were busy holding the wheel. 1st time in all these almost 20 plus drives with @Carnity I had to switch off the AC. Thanks for the amazing side slopping areas you showed us and let us practice. Shall I call this side slopping and ridge flattening drive? The apt word is motocross. The way you let us drive after checking out fun areas yourself for our safety is commendable. You not only check out for safety but every step of the climb is being announced on the radio for us to watch and understand. I wonder how you do this during the climb. The black Xterra sailing through those dunes really inspired all of us. The advice you gave at the end of the drive turned out to be true about hypertension. I checked my BP and was surprised to see it has dropped down to levels unbelievable. I was planning to drop out of drives once summer is in full strength but now in 2 minds. Anyways going to consult my physician to check out about the medicine dosage as BP has dropped dangerously low.

  13. Thank you all for the wonderful trip, I'm enjoying the drives one after the other. @Rahimdad you made it super fun and exciting thank you again, btw @Gaurav calls it my white horse as well😂. Just to let you know, We will soon have another very excited driver joining carnity Family, that is my wife!! I Still need to digest the idea of being on the passenger side rather than behind the wheels 😢.

  14. Hi @Ashok chaturvedi. It's an area off of E611, with a grid of tarmac roads and roundabouts almost all buried by the desert. Beyond these disappearing grid is a nice desert area (reaching toward E44) with great views of Downtown Dubai, the Burj Khalifa and the Burj al Arab. Very nice area.

  18. Hello guys...feeling a bit tired after all those real hard jumps and fast paced drive..😁, but...hats off @Tbone, for such a wonderful offroading treat. I believe the convoy was the best today and every one did amazingly well. I had a few issues with my battery terminal and I doubted the temperature was rising towards the end and that's where I started to step behind little. Had real good time riding up Iftar bowl and many other ...enjoyed it. @Islam Soliman, thank you for a very well done 2nd lead . You were doing great with your full size SUV😃. @Gaurav Soni,I believe we were together for the first time and it was a pleasure driving with you. You managed your Pajero really well . Superb driving bro. @David Ortells, since you were behind me, nothing much to comment bro, but your performances in the hill climbs were superb and you were the one behind me, so suggestions and comments on me is most welcome 🙏. @Ashok chaturvedi, ashok ji, I met you last time driving your Pajero and your transformation is amazing man.. getting in to FJ have changed your aura and you are handling your new off-road companion really well. And finally. @Francois Germishuys, thanks buddy for a wonderful sweep and for all the guidences at the time of the refusals. "NO COMMENTS" on your performances 😃😃 coz you are always superb with you F150. thanking all of you for a superb day and hope to join you guys soon. Take care and keep cool.

  20. DRIVE REPORT This type of drive is the perfect introduction to get your feet wet (and sandy) and to get to know each other. We kept it easy and smooth and i was amazed by the skills portrayed by all of you. @Lakshmi Narasimhan you are finding your way in the Pajero and only had some minor refusals. Don't forget to assess your situation once you get stuck, and switch to 4Lo and apply very gentle gas to crawl out of the situation. Well done ! @danebowers you understand the dynamics of your car and it shows. Excellent driving style and smooth gliding throughout. Super ! @Alfeathec and @Lorna Rowsell both getting accustomed with this first adventure but both doing so amazing today !! @Miguel Codes and @Tanya as a perfect duo with the beautiful red Wrangler. Tanya you have really impressed me with your driving style today !! @TT_Dubai Tim you've done great today. The big heavy tyres will need some time to adjust to the sand, so deflation to 10psi will be essential together with good momentum. @Muzurisani and @amir amiri in the back, with the mighty big Dodge Rams, but hardly struggling anywhere, well done guys !! A big thanks to @Tamas Hoffmann and Angela @Foxtrot Oscarfor the support !! Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. Drives are announced every Sunday at 11 am, and they go live on Sunday at 7:10 pm. Due to the high demand, these drives get full in about 10 minutes, so please be online at 7 pm to book your spot. If you miss a spot, put your name on the waitlist asap. Generally, by Thursday with dropouts everyone does get a spot if they have waitlisted. For the next drives, please bring along a deflator, pressure gauge, flag and radio as a minimum. Learn to deflate your tires and checking them precisely Learn to fix a flag on your car Learn to program and fully charge your radio Also like I mentioned during the debriefing, join the Carnity Whatsapp Drive Notification to get the latest updates on the drives, so that you can RSVP on time for the next weekend's drive. Please have a look at below topic which describes the tools needed for every level. There is a separate tutorial inside which explains which radio we recommend and how to program them: (Please do not buy the Baofeng 888S spare radio we gave you, as these cannot be programmed without a special cable and software). Please have a look at below grading structure that explains various off-road levels: PICS CAN BE FOUND HERE: AB Newbie - Qudra - Dubai - 05 Mar 2021 - Carnity.com See you soon in the sand again !

  31. @Niki Patel That's a very well thought of analysis I must say. I had struggled with this dilemma when I was on the lookout to replace the stock head unit on my Pajero. My final two choices were Pioneer and Sony and took the plunge with Pioneer. Must say one of the nicest decisions I have made as the unit is solid with all bells and whistles. Compared to what Mitsubishi offers in their showroom or the android units available I would strongly suggest people to stick to known brands as they respond well with both iOS and Android. The sound quality has also improved compared to stock due the built in amplifiers and settings on these units. Key to watch out for those using android is that AndroidAuto is not available in UAE officially so the playstore will not offer it

  32. @Frederic is awesome when it comes to audio systems and @Gaurav bhai has an awesome setup too. But when it comes to Android Car or Apple Carplay better to stick to known brands. I was once tempted by the Chinese head unit due to the low cost and inclusions, but its just not worth it. Agree with @Niki Patel here.

  33. @Foxtrot Oscar i apologize for the hijack of this thread.... glad i did it at the end once you are all sorted! @Ahab Shamaa @Mohamed Seidam @Rahimdad i am feeling the love .... let me learn from you all and your experiences and drop my fear/anxiety ... what an awesome community this is! on the topic of upgrading head-units.... stay away from these Chinese ones as i have been told that the Microphone is built into the headunit without an option to add an external Mic!! they are also telling me that adding an Amp will not improve the sound quality i may set up a separate thread on this topic to get some more opinions and maybe find a better AV specialist @Ahab Shamaa not feeling it for the company i used for the speakers now!

  34. Awww! @Rahimdad, what a nice write up 😀 Indeed @Niki Patel, you have a lot of people routing for you 💪🏻

  35. Nice write up @Niki Patel. Like @Ahab Shamaa and Dr @Mohamed Seidam pointed out, Fewbie forever, good luck. It will come to you naturally. Intermediate drives are not something to be scared off. Just like Fewbie teaches you a few more tricks than Newbie level, similarly Intermediate level comes with its own tips and tricks. Extreme drives recently launched are the high flyers club. It took me 3 years when I started off-roading to gather the courage to go to places like Sweihan and Liwa. But after visiting those places I realized what I has missed out for 3 years due go my fear. The techniques don't change, but the more you challenge yourself in a safe environment, the better you get. With experience comes excellence. I'm sure when the time is right you'll step forward and ask us for your promotion. I've recently driven twice with you and can safely say, you're doing well at Fewbie and I love your control both steering and throttle. I will be waiting for you on the other side to hold your hand and guide you through it.

  37. @Niki Patel I have to say I am impressed with your detailed refined resourcing really 👍 however regarding staying fewbie forever if for the adrenaline control I have free consultation methods how to control it 🤣 and one clue to it as @Ahab Shamaa said it will come naturally . I my self was just waiting for this moment and when came I applied for IM level ( despite my eligibility from others perspective ) .. and from time to time it’s nice to drive with newbie / fiewbie to supercharge for more Action packed “adrenaline controlled “ drive 😉

  38. Wow! That is one lucid, comprehensive and well thought of commentary @Niki Patel! You never cease to amaze me 😀 Thank you my friend for being such a great resource to the community 🙏🏻 As to you remaining in Fewbie forever, I’m not buying it 😜 I think you will feel it when it’s time for you to drive at a higher level. You’re doing the right thing though. Don’t push it, and let the next level come to you... See you all on the sand soon 😘

  39. @Ahab Shamaa will do and look out for feedback from that Audio store on options! @Mohamed Seidam happy to share my experience and setup. I have a stock (from 2021 models onwards) 12.3" non-branded Android powered Head-unit that offers Android Auto (and mirroring for older phones) plus Apple Car Play (this is the only reason @Ahab Shamaa agrees to be a friend) From my research its a Chinese brand called Belsee for the headunit My experience and learning: 1. DO NOT pair with Bluetooth AND a cable . If you are connecting via a cable for Android Auto / Apple Car Play delete your Bluetooth connection to the headunit. This confuses my unit with regards which mic/speaker/signal to process for different inputs (music, maps, calls, whatsapp, siri, etc). 2. if like me you do not have a manual for your head-unit - there are a few menus and setting that can make a massive improvement to the phone-connected-experience. for mine i learnt it via the dealership sending me a short video of a 'hidden' menu (it was less obviously located vs hidden) @Mohamed Seidam I am likely to remain a 'forever fewbie' based on my lack of desire to have the adrenaline rush of Intermediate drives SO if you ever feel like stepping back into a Fewbie drive and we are together i will happily share the way i have set up the headunit and the menu/settings that made a difference. I do have an older Android phone (Samsung galaxy 8+ which i will set up and share experience with this weekend - look out for a follow up including pics of the settings etc) My general review and experience with an aftermarket, non branded Android powered head-unit is below: (my recommendation is don't buy non-brand Chinese head-units and stick with the Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, etc as you may compromise on screen size but the listening experience is a different league) The sound processing and amp quality is 1/10 I would have been better off with the stock head unit for processing and amplification of sound as the Belsee is very weak) I upgraded the speakers and added sound proofing a few months back (very happy with the work they did) I plan to add an amplifier as a next upgrade to address the weak audio performance created by the head-unit 12.3" screen is 10/10 Size is a game changer vs stock/smaller screen as no matter what mode you run the display the maps look great and easy to read i can imagine using a true GPS app on this will be an amazing experience touch screen works well screen quality 8/10 it has a screen protector that i thought was an anti-glare layer however soon realised due to the poor visibility of the FJ, its like we are always sitting in the dark no matter time of day ... lol.. so glare is never a real issue its plenty bright as a result (likely benefiting from the 'basement' lighting experience of an FJ Microphone quality 1/10 Audio for others calling me is very poor - difficult for them to hear me. Siri is a poor experience Explaining my excitement to hear Angela was able to make Siri understand Scotish led me to believe i should keep faith that microphones can be improved!
