  1. @Niki Patel, the car mentioned by @Luca Palanca Falsini is correct. My Y62 will be out of the game for some time due to some repairs with parts that have very, very, very long lead time (ie several months) from Nissan in Japan. Meanwhile, I couldn't stay grounded forever, so I got myself a new drive on the dark side. When the Y62 is back, I'll have to face the dilemma about which car to drive, even though my wife is claiming the Y62 as the family car. See you tomorrow.

  3. There is an embarassment of riches in tomorrow afternoon's drive. We are blessed with some of the most experienced drivers in the club. This means that for the Newbies, it's an opportunity to literally follow in the tracks of some of the leaders in the club where normally you would be three, four or ten cars behind. This is the Newbie drive on which you really want to be and it's unmissable as a result. Please deflate and put up your flags once you arrive. COVID is still a massive problem, so let's be careful that we don't add any more cases by being super careful during the drive to abide by all the rules. @AlexPol @Yawa @Desert Dweller @Ishraque Ahammed @Pacific @Shehab Alawadhi @Lakshmi Narasimhan @TT_Dubai @Jeepie @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @kolinrrj @Foxtrot Oscar @Niekku @Darren Brooke @Ale Vallecchi

  5. Dear Desertnauts. The mystery is about to be solved. We have chosen a meeting point, which will soon be published on the drive's post. PLEASE CHECK THE PAGE AFTER 7PM TOMORROW EVENING. Once you reach it, please position yourself on separate sides of the road, according to which convoy you belong to. @Ale Vallecchi's convoy will be on the right hand side of the road, and will be composed of: @Ahab Shamaa, @Goutam, @Islam Soliman, @Jack Thomas, @Kenneth Bollhardt, @kolinrrj, @Malachy McGrogan, @Nihal17, @Rizwan Waheed, @VipinShetty and @Yahya Munir. The radio channel selected for this convoy is Carnity Channel #2 (446.031). @Wrangeld (Richard)'s convoy will line up on the left side of the road, and will include: @Francois Germishuys, @Humayun Ghias, @Mobeen Anwar, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ, @Niki Patel, @Rob Harper, @sheri, @Sreejith Sreenivasan, @stavros papachristos, @Thomas Varghese @Watteau and @Yousef Alimadadi. The radio channel selected for this convoy is Carnity Channel #1 (446.006). These lists are in alphabetical order, so the exact convoys' orders will be unveiled tomorrow. They have been composed so to keep into account a balanced mix of drivers, in terms or ranks, experience and type of cars. As far as the itinerary is concerned, we will be entering an area of large, long dunes (tall but not too sharp), spend some time playing in their shadows, then cross a sabkha and approach another area of long range cordons (although possibly accessed through a small set of more technical dunes). Initially our general direction will be west, with the sun at our backs, but eventually we plan to turn around, toward a yet undecided exit point, in an easterly position with respect to Downtown Dubai. All skills will be practiced: side sloping, some ridge riding and criss-crossing, as well as driving along canyons, and in and out of sand bowls as well. Meeting time is confirmed at 6:00 AM on Saturday Morning, sharp. Enjoy your end of the week, and have a good Friday.

  8. @Shaaz Sha, @Jorge Stepniak Felippe, @Tero Vallas, @Mohamed Seidam, @Rizwanm2, Very happy to see you all tomorrow morning. A few recommendations and kind requests for our drive: - Arrive with full fuel tank at our meeting/deflation point, which is just a few hundred meters away from ADNOC Service Station Tayba (656): https://goo.gl/maps/5fwxCVFL9zhvVGNF7 - Reach a few minutes before 6AM and deflate directly. The earlier we will move, the less we will have to drive when temperatures outside will reach 38 or 39°C. - As mentioned in the drive introduction, we strongly advise you to join with no passengers. You will need to be 100% focused on your driving and a 4h extreme drive is very long for a passenger who might feel sick. We will be using Carnity Radio Channel 5 (462887.50) Convoy will be announced tomorrow at meeting point. See you in the sands!

  9. @Luca Palanca Falsini is this an April Fools joke to have @Lorenzo Candelpergher labeled with a Jeep 😊 or have you Lorenzo gone to the dark side and become a Jeeper 😂 (I love them by the way so no offense intended) ... either way welcome back indeed @Lorenzo Candelpergher

  10. Hi All, Here is the proposed convoy order for the drive tomorrow morning, If I have incorrectly stated a rank of a driver, my apologies. It's a bit of Jeep convention, so those of us without Jeeps are grateful to the rest of you for allowing us to tag along! Radio Channel is 3. Please deflate, flag up and wait in the car for the briefing. COVID is still very real here in the UAE so we will remain strict in making sure our drives are all safe. Please help us keep it that way. See you soon in the sand.

  11. My eyes widened and my jaw dropped to see the different levels on a newbie drive, and 16 cars in one convoy. This is gonna be a learning experience for everyone, including myself with so many experienced drivers in this drive. Does anyone have a “fast forward” button so I can skip the day and just jump to tomorrow’s drive? 😂

  14. Don't waste money, if you aren't planning a solo long drive soon. I bought an Anker (good brand) with warranty and used it twice within 6-7 months and then battery got swollen and warranty didn't applied to swollen battery. I also followed all rocket-science instructions while using and always recharging them after its use and it still failed. So I'm back to good old style jumper cable, that always work.

  20. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

  26. I have had a Crony portable jump starter. Used it more than a few times when my battery used to die. Not the most reliable but I always keep a fully charged unit just in case. After about using 15-20 times, it holds charge just enough for one jump start.

  27. @Anish S I agree with @Gaurav bhai. I had one from the original company which started this trend, BBS. Like @Gaurav bhai says it worked for me 3 times also, but eventually would not charge and no proper warranty. I am used to calling the recovery guys if the car does not start and they normally reach me within 30 - 45 minutes.

  28. For ne it is a matter of personal safety. I have both, jump cables and the portable power pack. The advantage of the portable power pack is that I don't have to flag down cars when I am driving alone in order to get a jump start with the cables.
