It took me a while to find the time to write this report. I will start thanking @Foxtrot Oscarfor assigning me the CF position. I am used to being the sweep and this was a different experience. I enjoyed very much the route and the driving. The heat and the bright sun made it hard to read the dunes but the convoy handled it beautifully. I am really proud of all you guys that no-one got stuck and were able to self recover from every refusal (and also very happy that you didn't make me sweat under the scorching sun at almost 50 degrees). I was resuming my jeeping after over a month off the tracks and my jeep behaved exceptionally well, even on that little jump after the steep little step. I am happy to be back. @armaanreally surprised me with his driving this time. Really enjoyed watching you mastering the slopes and the ridges. @Xavier Treasurer At the beginning I think you had some difficulties but were very quick to regain control and accommodate to the complexities of the super soft sand. Kudos for you on a solid performance. @Islam Soliman It was great to see you handle the pop outs and teaching the team how to quickly re inflate. I had some family commitmments that impeded me to continue for the final night part but I had a glimpse of the terrain in the final part of the first segment. It's a pity that we can't have the regular group conversations because of covid, but I hope that we will soon resume that social part of our adventures. I hope to see you again soon on the dunes.

Dear @Thomas Varghese, the drive was over, everyone - not just you - exited, except for the Seniors who went back to help for the pop-out and those who were in close proximity who decided to wait as, for them, the drive wasn't over yet. There was nothing irresponsible from your side: on the contrary, as I said, I believe you did the wisest and most appropriate thing and, as a paradox, I would have found it more irresponsible of you, knowing how tired you were at that point (even more so now that I know about your A/C issues), if you had stretched further, to the point where you may have gotten in trouble. @Abu Muhammad was fully supported by @Jeepie, @Tero Vallas, @Rob H and me, way more people than needed to fix a simple pop-out.. There was no need for any extra help. I'm the first one potentially suffering from the heat and dehydration and I know very well that, in my current poor shape, I have limits I shouldn't cross. The overall safety of each drive goes also through the individual driver's judgment of what is their personal limit in these extreme weather conditions so that no additional risks are taken by the entire convoy.

We are smart. We drive at the coolest times of the day and we also have at least 3 night drives per week. Believe it or not , many members joined Carnity during the summer months at the height of the pandemic. The brilliant planning undertaken by the Carrnity Crew meant that we were able to escape from our locked down homes and drive in the blazing heat. You weren't here to experience that, but I tell you , it was an absolute god send, especially for me and others like me who were stuck here all alone without our families and confined to an apartment. It allowed us to get out, talk on the radio to fellow enthusiasts and feel safe as we weren't exposed to crowds or covid, furthermore we didn't have the option of night drives due to the curfew. As I said, summer driving isn't for everyone, but some of us enjoy the extra challenge it provides. Now, let's keep on topic, This thread is about keeping your Nissan Xterra cool in the summer months, what warning signs to look for that indicate overheating and what to do to resolve them quickly and not about the why fors and wherefores of summer driving, there's already a thread for that.

We faced the same on our 2008 Pajero that has no cabin filter (although there is a provision). After installing one we noticed significant improvement.

Dear Desertnauts. To update you on the upcoming drive, this Friday morning, I wish to share with you why this is one of my favorite itineraries. It will cover quite an extensive area, with different features, presenting diverse and (potentially) incremental challenges. Murqaab is a borderline location, where the sand turns from the red hues, typical of Badayer/Tazi Nazwa, toward the white blinding tones of Qudra's dunes, becoming progressively lighter in color as we move in a East-West direction (being chased by the sun). The vegetation will also go from quite abundant, near the start, to almost absent toward the middle of the drive (on Lisaili's plateau), then denser, again, getting closer to Solar Park. There may be encounters with camels, almost throughout the drive, often grazing freely, but occasionally walking in a caravan, while being taken out to pasture. The drive can be technically challenging, offering a degree of dune's types, ranging from tall and open, to tall but closed (lined up in canyons that we'll have to drive along), as well as low and technical (packed together in unorganized clusters) or long and more easily ridable. Given the abundance of Fewbie and Intermediate members having joined the drive, and with the great support provided by our Seniors managing the drive with me, I am playing with the idea of organizing the convoy in an unconventional way: either alternating each higher rank driver with a Newbie (making it almost a 1-on-1 tutoring drive), or creating small convoys within the convoy, each group of cars led by a Senior member, and 3 to 5 junior drivers following the more experienced off-roader. Of course we will all drive together, but we'll surely find a way of making the drive interesting and educational. I did the same as @Frederic. Land Cruiser has slot but didn't come with filter. I added one but also always leave AC on recirculate so it doesn't pull outside dust and sand. I would have them find where filter goes and do a full evaporator clean if you have sand coming through. Evap coils are probably clogging near bottom and can also clog the drain and water will leak back in cab. What year is your Yukon?

Hmmm, I’m not aware of a saggy rear end but I have seen some Xterras with the spare wheel on hinges at the back of the boot/trunk . You could well be onto something re the 10mm thick skid plate, mine is definitely no longer smooth and flat but somewhat concave from the amount of ridges it’s battered down . That’s why I was considering the lift too as I really need to push it on the ridges . But like you, I would never remove the skid plate or go for a thinner one due to the protection it offers

Xterra has a air filter at the same location behind the glove box. Sand accumulates there and u get "sand storms" after every drive with switching the AC on. One needs to clean that filter regularly like we clean the air filter for engine

Now that I have a board, could members please reccomend a good jack for my y62? Any idea where I could get it from would be helpful too!

Good morning @Adhir Saxena. I have seen that you have signed up for both this drive and @Islam Soliman's drive on Saturday morning. As you may know, according to Club's policy, until Wednesday morning members are only allowed to sign up for 1 drive (second drives will be permitted from Wednesday, to allow all members to find a slot). Can you please choose either drive as your preferred first drive, so that we can confirm you, and waitlist you for the second choice? @PaoloMaraziti As per my knowledge, there's always a risk of them 'Melting' due to excessive heat under the car. Especially if they are misplaced and are in contact with some really hot surfaces such as the exhaust pipes.

I would like to give a big shout out to this drive and all the participants. @Foxtrot Oscar for an excellent lead and banter thank you very much. I have to be honest, your lead and drive style, the challenges and obstacles you lead us to experience were all I expected a Fewbie+ drive to be. I shall join your drives any day again. Getting crested.....a shame on me. I could have sworn that even the Jeep snored at me when I parked at home last night. We both licked our wounds. To @Islam Soliman for an excellent sweep and coming to the rescue, overseeing a few pop-outs thank you very much. We did not spend more than 20 minutes on any situation. @Arman an excellent second lead. Remember to also look on top next time. I shall remember to carry a drink for your car with me on a next drive @Alexander Alcala I had a lot of fun keeping a close eye on your Jeep in front of me. Wondering into the dark of night again for a second round of adrenaline. Thank you to all that joined, vegetation or not we had fun. It's not everyday our wheels feel grass underneath them. This was the drive with the absolute most ridge riding and cris-crossing I had been on since joining the club. It took me a while to figure out exactly what about these drives it is that gets my adrenaline flowing. I do understand that gaining experience in all areas of sand driving is what makes a well rounded driver but the somewhat faster pace and body roll of a cris-cross eventually is what makes me sit upright and thoroughly enjoy the drives. @Foxtrot Oscar thank you for the cold one before we departed home.
