Good job @Zed. This post is already tempting me to try one of these for my upcoming Sweihan drive this Saturday.

Any garage doing MIG welding is totally acceptable for RTA test. Secondly you can freely weld the chassis where tow point ripped off and RTA will not cause any trouble. I have gone to this point in greater depth in 2019 and RTA senior inspector explanation was Chassis welding on load bearing area is mostly not acceptable. Anywhere else to recover the rusted part due to AC water dripping, tow point area which are not disturbing the vehicle structural integrity are completely fine with MIG welding. Then I have got MIG welding on front tow point mount on ladder frame as original was cracked due to regular use. After the welding that guy grind that area and spray coat with black paint. After that I have passed twice without any headache.

There is one scheduled for coming Friday.

I have never thought that I will be able to drive on sand, but loved to drive at least one day. But today it has come true to a level I do drive minimum 2 days in a week. Thanks to every one in the @Carnity family (All the marshals, leads, advisors, support team, co drivers, co pilots and friends) for carrying me along this point. Inspirations from every corner of the dune helped me to take this hobby/sport very serious. I see my self improved a lot as an individual in the following key areas 1. Respecting the time 2. Care for the fellow person 3. Communicating with my team 4. Hi Faraz you dont need additional lights to follow in the convoy night drive, high beam headlight is sufficient and MUST, just make sure your car high beam are working. HI Alex, please join absolute newbie drive first and then you can join any night drive or day drive at newbie level of your choice. Absolute newbie drive is MUST for everyone joining Carnity Offroad Club to understand the convoy style driving, discipline and get safe introduction to sand driving in daylight first.

@Lakshmi Narasimhan I still remember this cautious fellow arriving with the brand new Pajero, eager to learn, and full of questions. Looking forward a couple of months and your dedication has really paid off. The sand bug has really bitten you and I have seen a massive progress in your skills and the way you handle your ride. Hi @varunmehndiratta, we will be starting from south solar park. The same place we explored couple of weeks back. Without going further deep like last time, we will be heading crossing towards ghantoot section and explore the area.

Hello Sreekumar, Ill be driving my pathfinder (R51) for the Friday absolute Newbie drive. I have got flag, uhf radio, deflator, tow rope and a small portable compressor. Thank you @darren thompson, @Lakshmi Narasimhan, @Ranjan Das, @Hisham Masaad, @JeromeFJ for your comments and nice pictures. I am glad to know that you guys enjoyed the drive. This morning i was very surprised to find the whole area quiet, there was no traffic at all. This specific area is normally so busy during the weekend and very churned up. Luckily, there was some wind that healed the desert and we found nice virgin dunes and play areas as well. As usual, i like to start the drive easy so that we can wake up properly and begin warming up for the rest of the drive; at the same time it was pretty bushy terrain around Tawi Nazwa. Everyone drove really well, with barely few minor refusals and a stuck. The stuck was recovered swiftly with little bit of shoveling, there was no need for rope recovery. We got the chance to enjoy play areas with no tracks and we made some attempts because there was no one except us around. Second half of the drive, we headed towards Big Red, where we made most of the bowls and climbs which is always my favourite part. However, it was so sad and heartbreaking to see so much trash around pink rock🙁. Thank you so much @Hisham Masaad for the excellent support, @Ranjan Das for being an amazing sweep with your new ride 😍 and @Lakshmi Narasimhan as always flawless second lead. Looking forward to see you all soon in the sand for some other drive. Take care and stay safe.

I can't comment on the design of the X-terra tow hook design, but from the above looks, it is a weak design. I would question the quality of the welding performed on the bolt. Looking at the photos, there are only a few points where the weld made contact with the nut, even though most of the circumference of the nut has weld residue around it.

Fascinating data @Goutam, a goldmine of infos. Thanks for sharing. It would be interesting to record as well some quantitative/qualitative data about if and how you liked the drive and why, like a scoring and a preselected set of reasons for liking / disliking the drive, whether you found it easy or difficult, whether the convoy was overall up to the drive level or not, etc, ie some focus on the subjective experience. Food for thoughts, given that it looks like data mining is your passion! Kudos!
