Scorpion Sting Despite this subject is well explained in many of the posts in our carnity forum, I wanted to create an awareness based on my personal experience. On Saturday night, we, 4 families along with kids were camping and star gazing in Al Quoa Milky Way spot. On this night, my spouse became an innocent victim to a scorpion sting when we were sitting on the sands. Before the incident happened, unfortunately she removed her shoes to clean up the sand and sat for some time with bare foot - which caused all this. Thanks to guidance from carnity, we had clicked a foto of that tiny thing, in order to show to doctor for proper diagnosis. Within the span of five minutes her entire left leg turned numb with deep burning sensation and she couldn’t walk or place her leg on the floor (sting happened on her left leg foot, below the thumb finger). I immediately called the ambulance using 999 service, who rushed to the spot in less than 45 minutes and checked all her vitals including BP, pulse rate, blood oxygen etc. and confirmed that everything is normal. We went to the nearest seha hospital in the ambulance which is in Al Wagan area and the doctors treated her with pain killers and anti allergy injections. The pain (severe to moderate) lasted for 24 to 36 hours, post which she was able to walk comfortably. Pain still continues to exist (slight level) in the respective area, which should go off completely in next 24 hours. Key Takeaways: Do not panic and keep your hopes high and blood pressure at normal levels. If there is no giddiness after 15 or 30 mins, there is no problem at all. In case of giddiness, then this requires some quick treatment along with antidodes. Numbness and pain are quite normal in this case. As per Seha, none of the species in UAE desert are venomous and thus there is no antidode required. (They haven’t given any antidode to my spouse). The hospital staffs said they see more than 5 cases in a day with such instances. Dont rush to hospital yourself, as this needs some specialises practical experience to treat such incidents. City Hospitals may lack that speciality. 999 ambulance is the right option. We visited NMC Urgent Care, the next day morning, due to severe pain - they reviewed the treatments provided by Seha and informed that there is no further treatment can be provided there. Time is the only heal for this pain with few pain killer medications. Be ready to withstand the pain for 48 hours. Lastly, never remove shoes. Rush Hour 4: The Commute - Drive's Report "What matters is how quickly you do what your soul directs" - Rumi It was all very quick, following each moment's instinct, directed by the soul (that's what we bring to the desert to be reborn), as well as (or even more so) by the shades of light on the sand, the blur of a bush rushing by, the line of a ridge, the sound of the sand under the tires, or the color of the sky fading in front of us. Having recounted the soul of our drive, and being impossible to follow in @munkybizness' literary footsteps, I'll limit the report to the sheer numbers, which so eloquently speak for the off-roading feat of every member. As we had decided to divide the drive into 1 hour segments, with the goal of covering at least 30 km each hour, this is what we achieved: 1st hour - 34 Km driven, at 35 Km/h average moving speed, and 34 km/h total moving speed, with only 2 minutes of stop, to assist a self-recovery; 2nd hour - 27 Km driven, for a total of 60+ km altogether, moving at an average of 33 km/h , and a total of 30km/h over the 2 hours, with 10 minutes of stop, to assist a refusal and perform a quick tug. This second segment was also much more complex and diverse, due to a couple of tight technical areas with soft sand: it was here, during the previous edition of Rush Hour 3, that all the advantage gained during the first hour was lost, due to multiple stucks. 3rd and 4th hours - 48.3 Km driven, from Ghantoot back to Qudra's Last Exit, in 1 hour and 33 minutes, moving at 31 Km/h average speed (30 km/h total), with only 2 minutes of stop (the infamous yanking tug received by @Prakash Anoop). The commute back to Qudra was deliberately shorter and more "leisurely", as we went looking for oryx (unsuccessfully), and took a straighter route back, to reach the exit point rigorously on time for the next weekend's Carnity sign-ups. Dear Friends Thank you so much for being ahead of time and I apologise for the little delay of mine . After the quick briefing we started moving north and east toward the rising sun which surprisingly still cool at this time of the year. Warming up forth and back before we join the Baja for a short segment to enter after it to practice some technicality where every one did great . Taking our first coffee break on the large sabkha moving on toward the long range dunes of murqab sloping , crossing , bowling till we got a pop out of our sweep which was fixed on no time by the collective effort of the team . Driving and driving toward Lisaili as planned and started to feel my steering heavy to realize a leak hope it’s from the cap only . Topped it up and moved again however and before reaching half way as Murqab was still in my rare view I decided to end the drive in Murqab instead of lisaili as every one never disagreed with me . Looping with convoy crossing over and over from hard to slip direction . Just before the last dune to the track i got bogged in a sideway slip side which was managed by a gentle tug . @ASAD. You were the perfect second lead so vigilant and anticipating the next move even before announcing it on radio . Glad to know that all turned out well! Just to add a few pointers - if for whatever reason you do remove your shoes, turn them upside down, dust them and then put them on. This removes sand as well any critters that may have crawled inside. 2) if you have ice, use it immediately! Apply on the bite/bruise/sting/cut. Any kind if injury, ice will reduce the inflammation and pain. 3) might be a good idea to carry some Bruffen/Voltaren or similar over the counter pain killer. Pandadol/Paracetamol is too mild and NOT anti inflammatory. A calamine ointment will help as well. Lastly an antihistamine will help in Case of any allergy. Just make sure that all these medicines are kept out of the heat and not kept in the car! Keep safe guys!

@Karthikeyan Govindarajan Thank you and appreciate sharing this important incident which is quite not rare in the desert to encounter. and yes and thank you for emphasizing few important points that we always stress on it and its in the AN online clip brief too when encountering such situation No Panic , take a picture of the offending creature when at all possible , and fortunately that the vast majority of scorpions are of the ' blondy ' type which is non venomous in UAE . and always wear closed foot shoe where especially in the night . i am glad to learn that all is good eventually . and its great pleasure if i and team could be of any help always beacuase this what we always do. see you tomorrow for in the drive buddy . Ice no doubt is like a heaven in such situations , only to clarify for the others that never apply the ice itself directly on the skin but the ice should be wrapped in a cloth like an ice pack to avoid the potential of skin necrosis ( skin death ) . 🙏

Thanks everybody for the kind words. Couldn't reply sooner due to busy schedules. This promotion came exactly 1 year after I joined Carnity. Offroad has indeed become one of my passion and addiction, 52 drives plus 1 liwa crossing completed in a year explained it all 😈. I wish the little experience I have can be found helpful to others.
