  5. Dear Desertnauts in preparation for tomorrow's drive, please notice the meeting point, posted here ( https://maps.app.goo.gl/SmfJjJBJSjvqWtHK6 ) and in the drive's main post. So, be careful, as I have decided to start the drive in the Qudra area, and not quite in Solar Park, as initially thought. The difference is minimal, since you still need to reach Qudra's ADNOC and The Last Exit area, before moving on to the meeting point. You can reach it, after having refueled at Qudra's ADNOC station, by taking the road to Bab al Shams, passing 2 roundabouts, continuing straight, and turning back toward Qudra at the third roundabout (where you'll see an ambulance parking spot to the right, and a mosque just beyond the roundabout). Shortly after the U-turn at the roundabout, make a right across the open barrier, and pass the bike track, again toward the right. From here we'll head down to a sand track that will take us to the first "sabkha", where we'll begin our search for water !! The convoy order will be the following: @Ahmed Wagdy in Second Lead @Emmanuelle Ifrah in place #3 @Pavel Pashkovskiy at #4 @Sami Sleiman at #5 @Marketa Dobesova at #6 and @DP1011 in Sweep. I'll give a more detailed briefing (especially for the benefit of the Newbie drivers) just before leaving. As soon as we arrive. we can start deflating, so we can guarantee a timely departure. The Carnity radio channel to be used will be #2 (446.031). Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon.

  7. Hi @Emmanuelle Ifrah - Welcome to the club ! Looking forward to see you tomorrow ! You will hear about the exact meeting point later today, will be somewhere closer to Qudra last exit, , and as regards communications - all the communication happens on Carnity page on the event you see like meeting point, convoy numbering etc. As I see you are first timer with the club, please confirm which 4x4 do you drive, whether your vehicle has tow points at the front and back. Do you have any previous off-roading experience? Please ensure that you go through the video prior to coming for the drive ( The link @Frederic posted above). this will be very helpful to gain some insights as you embark on an amazing learning journey . As highlighted - This channel remains the medium of communications, in case you have anything specific please feel free to reach out with questions if any See you tomorrow ! (P.S - Please make sure passengers if any are Okay to be spending 3-4 hours in desert drive and not having any car sickness issues - My personal suggestion is to not have too many passengers which will help you to have right focus and concentration)

  8. For our WL drivers @Rajiv Sam @Chris Wing @Senthil Kumar @Sam K @Pacific @Simon D being an exploration drive couldn’t have extended the convoy size further. I noted that slot still available on FBPlus drive at Mahafiz at same time with Doc @M.Seidam- with Faya and Fossil rock to explore surely a drive to check. See you all sometime soon.

  10. Thanks all for the details. My husband and I will both join tomorrow. We have both done a one day desert driving training with EDI and our first off road drive with another club last week. We have a Nissan Patrol V8, flag, radio, shovel, tyre deflator, compressor and loads of enthusiasm and willingness to learn ! See you all tomorrow. Also confirm I have seen the video and have a question. Should we deflate to 15PSI tomorrow ? (We seem to get a different number every drive, hence my asking for confirmation on this point).

  11. Hi @Emmanuelle Ifrah! Welcome to Carnity Offroad Club ! @Ale Vallecchiwill be posting the meeting point here in the same drive topic soon. As this is your first drive with the club, kindly go through our Absolute Newbie video briefing: As essential tools to start off with, you will be needing an offroad flag, a two-way radio programmed to our frequencies, a tyre deflator so you can deflate your tyres upon arrival, and a compressor so you can inflate them again. If you do not have a radio yet we can usually lend you a spare one for that day. I will tag Deepak @DP1011also in here as he is also signed up for the drive and part of our Support Team.

  13. Day 8 - Tabuk - Tayma via The Red Sea at Al Humidah (673 Km) Excited and energized by the exhilarating off roading of the day, over dinner we started toying with the idea of extending the trip to the ultimate arrival point: a small village on the Red Sea, just a few kilometers south of the Jordanian border. This would materialize a true "coast to coast", from the shores of the Arabian Gulf to the beaches of the Gulf of Aqaba. Unplanned, thus even more satisfying. It would take a detour of around 150 Km round trip, on Road 394, after a couple more hours of off-roading needed to reach the tarmac from our campsite, inside the Tabuk red sands. After waking up at the entrance of the canyon where we slept, we took a short trip to explore its depths. The gorge got tighter and tighter, with the red walls closing in above our head. About halfway through its length a bottleneck blocked the passage of the car, but a few steps beyond the gap the tunnel fanned out, ending up in a small oasis, full of trees and flowers, reachable by car from an entrance on the opposite side. After less than an hour enjoying the coolness of this miniature paradise, we finally decided to head to the coast. Off we went, to the Red Sea. A long climb took us to the top of the plateau on which, further to the south, one of the Neom project's landmarks will soon be developed (Trojena, on the slopes of Jabel al Lawz). From there a gentle descent took us to the rim of the mountainous area, and as soon as the road begun to descend more steeply, it revealed, firstly through the haze, then clearer and clearer the blue stripe of the waters of the Gulf of Aqaba, and the dark cliffs of the Sinai Peninsula, just a few kilometers beyond. At the end of the road laid the small village of Al Humidah: going right we would reach the Jordan border (just 38 Km away), while going left we would follow the coast, all the way to the southern tip of the gulf. Left we went, to reach a rocky and sandy beach, where we enjoyed a quick lunch, feet in the water. The stop was more symbolic than anything else, but it really gave us a sense of accomplishment. Going back home would entail driving a direct distance of 2,485 kilometers. With this daunting task in mind, we started to head back to the initially intended rest area for the night, in the town of Tayma, which we would reach just after dusk. As memories of this so far fantastic trip started to flood back, we happily turned around, heading for the center of the Arab peninsula, and to our final destination, back home.

  27. Dear Desertnauts, as if I didn't have enough business trips (which have lately taken a little away from my off-roading), I have just finished preparing for another trip, this time for pleasure, which will bring me away from Dubai for the next 10 days. It's going to be a bit of a trip down memory lane, like the long overland adventures I used to enjoy, once or twice a year, while taking groups of travelers, mostly to North Africa's Sahara. This one is going to be an exploration drive to Saudi Arabia, from Dubai to Tabuk, via many hopefully amazing sites, and back. I have just finished to load up the FJ, which I have decided not to equip with a roof rack, or any other loading and storage gimmick, in the spirit of keeping the car as stock as possible and manage its cargo accordingly. The boot is organized with two layers of 2 boxes each, with a row of stripped-down recovery tools crammed at the back of the booth, secured against the backseats (shovel, kinetic rope and soft shackles, hard wood board, hydraulic jack, a mixed toolbox, and the compressor). The boxes contain the dry food pantry, cooking equipment, mixed items (mostly kitchen tools, and an ice chiller. Between the two rows of boxes there has remained enough space to put the tent and 2 foldable chairs. The suitcases (soft bags, stuffed inside a loose and large outer cover accommodating also an inflatable air mattress, toilet paper, a spray bottle, and a pillow) will be placed on the back seat, separated by a small ice box containing some munchies for the trip. The space between the front and back seats is packed with a picnic table, and a supply of water. I have planned not to take any extra gasoline, since it'll be possible to find gas stations quite regularly along the planned route. The availability of gas stations will also allow to manage the water supply, which will be limited to 8 lt. per person every 2 days (4 lt. each day, sufficient for drinking and cooking). Washing will be done by spraying any unused fresh water, but mostly with wet towels. Of course, in case of purely off-road long trips, an adequate supply of water (no less than 3lt/person/day) and gasoline (for an extra autonomy of at least 5/600 km) would have forced me to mount a roof rack to carry these critical goods. While looking to minimize the upgrades to the car, I have also chosen not to bring an electrically charged chiller and no extra battery pack. Charging of phone, PC, lamps, or air pumps will be done with a converter (700 W capacity) charged through the car's lighter (with the option to accommodate 4 USB's and a regular socket). To complete the preparations, travelers to Saudi need to get a Tourist Certificate from RTA (provided upon presentation of a Carnet de Passage from Emirates Motorsport Organization), a visa (1-year validity, multi entry), and a car insurance, obtainable at customs. So, now that all is ready, I'll update you on the trip one day at the time, with a few notes on the areas visited, a picture of the day, and the track completed each day. Looking forward to showing you what I find, with the goal, eventually, to organize an overland sometimes next winter. Let the adventure begin!

  32. Unfortunately I’m going to have to cancel, changed the exhaust a couple of weeks back and it’s losing power noticed it the past two drives it’s been difficult on climbs etc so she’s in the shop, was hoping they could sort it but doesn’t look likely. Probably a return to stock 😕 didn’t think 2.5 to 3 inch would be an issue 🤦🏻‍♂️ one mod too many haha anyway hope to see you all on the next one
