Good afternoon intrepid Desert Wanders @Ishak @Pascal and @Zulfikhar Naiyar thank you all for showing up on time this morning and joining me for todays Fb+ adventures in this beautiful part of the Abu Dhabi desert. you guys all drove fantastically well with only three stucks including my own ridge cresting (pics in the Gallery). We had a little bit of everything today, from super soft white sand to technicals and some mid to long range dunes. A big thank you to my three S/L’s @Ishak @Pascal and @Zulfikhar Naiyar you guys did a fantastic job each and everyone of you as I cycled you through the S/L position. Not forgetting my three Center forwards @Ishak @Pascal and @Zulfikhar Naiyaras well as my three sweeps @Ishak @Pascal and @Zulfikhar Naiyar you all played a blinder in these roles lol :):):):) @Ishak for first time in the sweep role you did great job well done mate, now you need to sign up for DCT. I hope you all enjoyed being cycled through the positions, it is something that we don’t do often but is great fun when convoy size allows. We covered just over 66km in 2 hrs 45 minutes (moving time) in fact it was further than that as I forgot to hit record as we left the starting point, so nearly 70 Kim’s, fastest moving speed nearly 52 kph, That is amazing and testament to how well you guys drove. Thanks again for a magic Saturday morning in the sand, have a great weekend and see you all again real soon in the dunes.

Dear Desert Drivers Thank you for joining the drive early today. It was a great morning out in the sand. Ok let me skip immediately the last hour where you helped me changing my wheel after a tire burst on the track. We went through the different ways of lifting a car, and at the end the lesson learned is here. I cannot change a wheel on a flat hard surface (gatch track or road), I need sand to be able to dig below the wheel. Thank you for your support and patience. For the rest, excellent drive from all of you. As expected the area was empty, and with a small convoy, we where really able to enjoy these fluid roller coaster through the immaculate dunes, and a few of these big climbs that allow to push our cars and raise the adrenaline level. Managing the soft sand was the second learning of the day, as we had many occasions to see that the difficulties are not always obvious, when cars where stuck in an apparently inoffensive flat surface, or sliding in a nasty pocket or blocked at a weird angle. @Emanuel, thank you for the 2nd lead. You have this understanding of the track that allows you to anticipate when I might get suck and hold or adjust the track as needed. @DanielN, you are taking the best out of the FJ, in the technical areas and the climbs. Be attentive on your control at higher speed, either in descent or on a ridge. @Abhilash Kottakkal, with more practice, you will continue to discover the capabilities of your car. Try to relax, avoid sharp turns or accelerations, and be attentive to the grip and traction of your car, you will get more fluidity, ... and enjoyment! @Gautam Banka thank you for sweeping the convoy today. It is a responsibility, and you endorsed it very seriously, thanks again. Similarly, be attentive to the grip and momentum of your car, adjust the tire pressure, and you will raise safely your confidence level. This is not an off-road drive, but a sit-down session to look and listen to the Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon album together. Bring your chairs, or a beach mat if you prefer to sit in the sand. 2. The meeting time is 7.30PM. Meeting location is https://maps.app.goo.gl/AU7pE4S6kJCCp56e9 3. We will deflate to 15psi and head out together to the camping spot by 7.50PM latest. 4. Upon arrival we will park the cars 20-30m away from the actual sit-down point. 5. Setting up the gear will take about 20mins max. You can also use that time to setup your tent if you like. 6. During the duration of the album listening, please respect the people who like to pay attention by not shouting, driving around with big lights, or disturbing the event in general. The total duration of the album is 43mins. Album information The album reflects on various stages of human life, beginning and ending with a heartbeat, exploring the nature of the human experience and, according to Roger Waters, "empathy". Though my AC failed, the weather was lovely. Had to drive back with windows down.🥹 The position shuffling was another great addition. WEATHER VEHICLE, GEARS & COMMUNICATION You don't need any special vehicle to participate, your stock or modified 4X4 should be in desert drive-worthy, top-notch and reliable condition. Any 4X4 with Low range gear with a minimum of 9-10 inches of ground clearance. Front and rear tow hooks/eyelets/bolt-on hooks. Off-road gear as per Carnity off-road Structure. Same-size spare tire in working condition. Bash plate and AT tires (Recommended). Winch (good to have, but not mandatory). Cars with standard fuel tanks of 60 liters, will need to carry extra 40 liters of fuel. All Jerry cans should be secured safely with ratchet straps. Etisalat sim are preferred, if you don’t have one, download the offline maps. Everyone should have the ability to record tracks & waypoints. If you use an in-built GPS, you can install Gaia on your phone to record and share. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE Carnity Team Lead – Expert, Marshal and Crew. No participation fees apply. Other Club / Independent Lead – 20+ drive-leading experience is required. No participation fees apply. THE REAL CHALLENGE This is no ordinary race, and it certainly isn't a race against the clock. We're not here to see who can wreck their car the fastest – that's not our style. Above all, it's a celebration of teamwork, where together, you'll conquer the untamed desert and emerge as true desert champions. Area Covered: 300+ km² All single-use waypoints will be scattered in 300+ km² area and all teams need to bring home the maximum points within 6 hours to win the challenge. Weightage: Green Waypoints (5 points), Yellow Waypoints (10 points), Red Waypoints (15 points). Green: Easiest to reach waypoint but scattered among outer perimeter or near sabhka, making it difficult to cover all green waypoints before the end of the challenge. Yellow: Moderate difficulty waypoint, scatter randomly at mid-perimeter level or at moderate-size dunes surrounded with super-soft sand patches. Red: The most difficult-to-reach waypoints, placed on top of the tallest dunes surrounded by tall dunes. In some waypoints, you have to climb on foot to reach. Tactical Approach: Based on your team capability (Car + Fuel + Physical Strength) you should plot your route wisely factoring in the end time to gather maximum points with the least distance covered within 6 hours. If you aim for Yellow Waypoints, make sure you and your team are ready to traverse through super-soft sand and know how to use fuel efficiently. Tip: Deflate at 7-8 PSI to move through super-soft sand patches without hard steering to avoid tire pop-out. If you aim for Red Waypoints, make sure you have at least one fittest person to climb a tall dune on foot with the whole team's GPS device to mark it. Most Red Waypoints are on top of tall dunes, without much scope to scale with cars due to the limited area available below to gain momentum. WINNING CRITERIA Any team that returns to the starting point within 6 hours with maximum points covered through their whole team GPS track will have the honor to lift the Trophy with the most distinguished title of The Desert Champions for the next full year. In case of a tie, the team with the least kilometer clocked will win. The average of whole team kilometers clocked per odometer reading will be used. US spec car miles will be converted to Kilometers. 1 mile = 1.609 km. All teams will start with 3 or 5 minute intervals to avoid crowding near the first few waypoints. The same duration will be adjusted from their total track time in the end. RULES AND REGULATIONS All team leaders will receive the waypoints in advance. Each waypoint weightage will be counted once. Each team member must store those waypoints before the start line. All team members should use a GPS app/device to record track and waypoints. One person per car - no passengers allowed. Everything in your car should be securely fastened. Strictly no drones are allowed. CONDITIONS APPLY Any tampering with GPS recording and data will disqualify the whole team. Any tampering with the Odometer will disqualify the whole team. Any accident requiring a police report will disqualify the whole team. So don’t break your car. And don’t let your teammate break their car. Any minor to moderate damage will cause 20 points penalty. Missing a waypoint by more than 10-15 meter variance, will not be counted. Any vehicle breakdown will require immediate reporting to the control team. Once the support team arrives on the site, based on their fair evaluation you can leave the broken-down car and driver to be taken care of by the support team. You can continue with 1 less car. As the support team may arrive within 30 min - 1 hour, you will lose that time without any consideration of the vehicle breakdown. Tire pop-out, use of spare tire, and minor bumper damage will not be counted as part of the vehicle breakdown. Well I missed driving in a big convoy camaraderie and throwing banter at each other. Anyhow, competition is healthy but our love for desert driving transcends beyond clubs & DCT teams. Thus I'm gonna share Team Phoenix GPX files here with commentaries and videos. Even after 19th Nov, I will keep adding files here so that this becomes sort of a repository where advanced drivers can pick their flavor of the drives. Carnity Rules apply - safety first! Do not venture on your own even if you're Intermediate++ and do not lead if you have not led before. Here are the first 2: 1. Endurance Drive 6 hours: Sweihan to Al Saad (for refuelling in Adnoc), then continue towards Al Ain Airport (where the high dunes are). Levels: The Al Ain Airport section is Intermediate, switches required to get inside where the high dunes are located. The Sweihan to Al Saad part can be Fewbie Plus, with plenty of ridge-riding play areas. This is the track that people take to do picnics in Nagra. The Technical BackDoor is for Fewbie, full of dunes to cross whether straight-on or ride-then-slide (switch). The Nagra Climb is of course for 20+ Intermediate (need to have minimum 20 Intermediate drives because you have to make split-second decisions everytime you switch at the top).
