  1. Drive Report With the early sunrise, our 3 courageous convoys met up at three different locations. Since we had 30+ signups which would be a nightmare to gather at one meeting point, i decided to go for 3 different locations, but with the aim of all getting together at one point on a huge sabkha, where we could all meetup with the entire group and have some laughs and photos. Since we were all together, why not get into some action ? Upon arrival @Hani Howeedy hit a tiny tree stump that was sticking out of the sabkha and it punctured the tire in the sidewall. With the great help of many team members like @Ali-M, @Ahmed Wagdy, @Srikumarand @Gaurav, we quickly installed the spare and resumed our journey. We decided to stick together with all three convoys for part 2 as they had to follow the same track anyways. We had some good challenges and dune climbs along our way to the mountains, where donkey's were laughing at our foolishness, but nevertheless we fought through and reached Wadi sidr. As by now we encountered some delay, a few members decided to opt out for the wadi part, and made their way back to Dubai. Wadi sidr occasionally has water pools which makes for an interesting crossing. Unfortunately, yesterday the pools were tiny but nevertheless it was great fun, and we exited in Asimah (north of Masafi). The original plan was to head out towards Wadi Sena and head out into the mountains, but time was running out so i decided to go for wadi sidr only. I must thank @Srikumar and @Vanessa8580 for stepping up and leading a 2nd and 3rd convoy, which made it possible to do this adventure with a big group. Sure we had delays, stucks, and refusals, but we have lots of stories to share for years to come Thanks @Gaurav for the camaraderie and help along the drive, and for being Sri's co-pilot (Samir you are killing us!!!)....😁 @Ranjan Das@Bjoern@Brette thanks for all the great help and support throughout the drive ! Fantastic driving by all of you, and no doubt we all learned something. 20psi in the dunes is not easy, but we made it out ! You can find our photo gallery below: Newbie - Scenic Sands & Wadis - UAQ - 04 Feb 2024 - Carnity.com See you all soon again in the sands or wadis !

  3. Thanks everyone for the fun (and long!) drive as usual. We started off on a easterly direction, before wandering south east from the starting point, heading towards the first mud flat / sabkha area. Lots of nice small ridge crossings made for some good excitement for the passengers. We then turned to a more south west heading aiming down for the second sabkha area. We looped around the picnic way point in some taller dunes and eventually hit the destination for our picnic stop. The wind was a little strong, whipping up dust and sand. really put the 'sand' in the 'SANDwich'. Managed to make a small batch of semi-warm karak... maybe i should invest in a wind shield for the little burner As we left the picnic destination @Aser's car managed to find a very nice looking gazelle skull with the antlers still attached... A couple of minor refusals which were quickly cleared up and we made very good time towards the exit. Just before hitting the dirt track we found another skull... camel this time. Bit of skin still attached... so we had a clean up job to do on it last night. Thanks for the navigation work @Ale Vallecchi, was a fun drive. Hope the bumper is all ok. My stats are below: 92.5km in around 7 hours. Looking forward to seeing everyones pics in the gallery!

  7. There used to be a time where Chinese 4x4's were rare in the UAE, and the overall consensus amongst the public would be to avoid them, or walk around them with some curiosity, not really being sure as what to expect and how these would perform in the UAE deserts. Over the last couple of years, we have seen the introduction of several 4x4's in the UAE coming from the Far East, often with a big marketing campaign and lots of bang for the buck. Often accompanied by very interesting warranty and service deals. In below topic, the aim is to compare the most recent models and discuss their potential performance and pricing. We will focus mostly on the 4x4 capabilities, and not so much on the comfort creatures or technology. To value these vehicles on their performance in the desert is not easy. But by looking at their specs in terms of power, ground clearance, and approach/departure angles, we can have a fairly good impression on what to expect from them. Of course, the real answer will only come after a couple of years to see if they really can rival with the Japanese reliability or the Jeep versatility and power. For now, let's have a look at below selection of 5 4x4's we compared: Jetour T2 BAIC BJ40 Plus Haval H9 Haval Dargo Tank 300 @frederic demolderand @Faraz94 are proud owners of BAIC and Haval 4x4's, and drive regularly with us. Would love to hear their comments and experiences, and invite everyone to chip in with their feedback and opinions !

  8. Thank you @Simon D for taking us through the Pink Rock to Big Red terrain, and living up to your promise of a roller coaster drive...I am sure our fewbie members got a good taste of the famous Big Red climbs, and also a taste of what awaits them at higher drive levels Good to drive with all of you @Hugo @Abdullah N @Renier Venter @Mohammad Sayawoush Azad @Robk @Faraz94 and @Harshal....everyone drove really great, requiring only minimal support....hope you took home some new learnings....see you all in the next drive as and when our paths cross Just to put across a pointer, banking on yesterdays stuck with @Harshal which i forgot to convey to you Harshal during our post drive chit-chat, - once we are stuck, please do not continue to self recover indefinitely.. its always good to wait for external support so that someone can see your car from outside and make a judgement. Basically , all of us need to know when to "STOP" self recovery...or else we will continue to dig in and end up with all 4 tyres in 4 deep pits (applicable for a typical flat and soft patch like yesterday)....once you are sunk so deep, the effort required to pull you out is exponentially higher which is why i tried to do some digging and make it smooth for my feather weight fortuner compared to your mighty Tundra.. Still ended up with some violent dance moves ..probably has something to do with the angle of pull as well ..Open to comments - @Simon D and everyone

  11. A drive like this is the one to remember. Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for the opportunity to get there and spend the whole day out! I loved the energy and the fact that nobody (except for myself after I jinxed it on the last kilometer of the trip) actually needed a push/pull or a dig As soon as I find some time, I'll go through footage from my camera and gopro!

  12. I know what you are thinking: best power-to-weight ratio (real big secret for winning off-road toy). I noticed that too 254 hp (most in all 5 cars) and kerb weight of 1869 kgs, make it 135 hp/ton.

Dear Friends , I hope you enjoyed the roller-coaster drive yesterday , unfortunately due to the wet sand it was not safe to take all the planned roller-coaster lines. we had a couple of refusals and stuck but nothing major. everyone drove really well. @Hugo you have been a really good 2nd lead @Abdullah N congratulations on your 1st FB Drive, you have driven really well and i am glad that my advice helped you get a better control over the fishtailing issue, but with time you will get used to your car dynamics . @Renier Venter you have driven very well and you have a good control over your car, well done! @Sunil Mathew you did really well in the CF position supporting the the stuck and refusals . you allowed me to focus creating the smooth and safe lines while you took care of the issues in the back . @Mohammad Sayawoush Azad you have done really well , i hope your kids enjoyed it. @Robk i am glad that this time we didn't need to use the trunk of your gladiator for anything 🤣, you did really well and i hope your passenger enjoyed the ride . @Faraz94 your off-roading skills are getting better every time i see you . @Harshal thank you for sweeping the convoy . i have driven behind you last week and i was sure that you are ready for such a role. it is not easy to control such a powerful beast but so far you are doing great . thanks again everyone and looking forward to see you again soon, I have uploaded some pictures into the drive gallery https://carnity.com/gallery/category/1948-fewbie-pink-rock-big-red-sharjah-03-feb-2024/ below i have added the drive route and statistics

  24. yeah mine starts and stops constantly from the heat with messages saying 'phone operations reduced due to overheating' I now just use the phone on the dash to see where we are going etc see the preset waypoints, and record using my regular phone in my pocket.

  25. Hi @Aser this usually happens when the phone overheats. Some phones heat up quickly when being charged and if they are close to the windshield. Perhaps try to see if you can mount the phone in front of an AC vent, or try to keep it away from the sun. My previous phone (Samsung) was very sensitive to this, while my recent one (Honor) hardly ever hangs due to heat.

  30. Thanks @Looper, @Benjamin, and @Imteeaz for leading and supporting another fabulous drive in a new area for me at least. It was challenging in the middle and another learning opportunity provided by @Looper for dealing with radiator issues and getting to the road again. Hope the repairs go well and not too expensive. See you on the sand again soon. My video of today's drive is under processing. Watch this space.

  33. Today’s afternoon's desert drive at Lisaili, masterfully led by @Davie Chase, unfolded as an adventure that those of us present will pleasingly remember about. I had the honor of serving in the Second Lead role, for which I am immensely grateful. Thanks for the faith. The drive was marked by some inviting cool dunes and also cool was the camaraderie and spirit of adventure displayed by all, especially Mr. Essam. Despite facing several challenges and getting refusals at times, @essam ibrahim your unwavering enthusiasm and adventurous spirit were truly inspirational, reminding us all that age is but a number when it comes to embracing the thrills and having fun. The climate was the highlight of the drive, with the cool air aiding a refreshing touch to our desert escapade, making the experience even more enjoyable. Davie's leadership throughout the drive was exemplary, your effort ensured a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. The drive through Lisaili was not just about testing our skills—which were indeed impressive across the board—but also about appreciating the beauty of the desert, the joy of adventure, and the value of teamwork. @Ahmed Farouk superb driving bro. I had to keep looking for you. The gaps were quite wide between us at times. Of course you were always on perfect track nevertheless. @Shiju Raju that cresting caught you off guard. I happened to watch you exact at that time you were right behind when@essam ibrahim paused momentarily on that ridge which probably you had to brake causing you that stuck on the ridge. A slight gap would have avoided it. @Julien Recan @frederic demolder rock solid guys. Your BAIC is getting it’s fair share of fans bro. @Mohit Gurnani Great going bro. You really completed Davie in your sweep and kept us all together and safe. Once again. Thanks to all. Hope to see you all soon. Cheers! And have a wonderful weekend. Will be adding some random photos on the gallery soon.

  34. I would approach it from the angle of whether you want a great car out of the box and leave it be or if you want to play with it, make modifications and customize it. Some cars are easier to modify then others based on supplier availability so if it is the later stick towards a car that is popular in the region with many options. Everyone has their own driving style so whether you want solid axle, IFS, etc will be dictated on your own personal preference. At the end of the day if you can’t decide just buy a Nissan Patrol and you’ll never look back 😜
