It’s very difficult for me to vote my favorite 4x4 in the club I have a clear soft spot for the older cars especially the way they bring a blast from the past when it comes to retro styles so as a car enthusiast I see myself admiring @Gaurav silver Pajero and @Frederic Isuzu trooper, and that little green machine is a true trooper! When I first started looking into 4x4s I either wanted to go for a jeep or a Jimny (as a family car keep in mind) what an incredible little beast it is! I love what @J-P L did to his little one which I like to refer to as a chihuahua “small but feisty” 😂 and anyone who has driven with me knows that I like a car with its own personality which all the cars above hold some sort of character. Finally as a jeep driver myself I would have to say I’ve caught myself in pure awe sometimes seeing Gladis by @Mark B literally sailing on the top of dunes it reminds me of @Islam Soliman massive beast the modifications and extensive chats with Mark about different modifications still surprise me with whatever new has been added it’s hard to point my finger on my fav modification. Maybe it’s the intensive work to a perfectly balanced suspension, maybe it’s the HUD or the most important mod THE FOOT REST! 😂 so I think my vote lays with Gladis

I want to vote for my compatriot The White Rhino🦏. I met the man behind the wheel @Mike M. for the first time during my first newbie drive. Led by @Frederic, The white rhino was on the second lead then me the absolute newbie on the 3rd. I got stuck couple of times because I got distracted by how beautiful of the white rhino 😅🤣. Since then I wanted to build my Pajero close to it step by step. So I can say this machine inspiring me 🥹. Haha thanks @Frederic , it's true what you said: looking back, maybe I should have scrapped this the day I rolled-over. But noooo, instead I rebuilt it 🙈. Anyways it became my Lab car, tinkering with it, changing stock parameters and blowing up things like pistons, conrods, and the latest... gasp *radiator (below attached photo when my radiator exploded). Every summer, my mechanics WhatsApp me, "so what will this year project be?" , probably both a marketing cold-call and to provoke another experiment 🤣 I probably can teach a course on how to read your Short-Term & Long-Term Fuel Trims and predict Vacuum Leak (without smoke-testing) and Exhaust Leak (without pulling manifolds) - most mechanics use OBD just to check error, buy parts and clear codes, without understanding what the computer is telling us 😃 It's also true that when I send the LC for an engine rebuild or multi-weeks repair, there is sadness in my eyes, so much so that my wife became jealous! Thankfully while the LC was being rebuilt, I did spend more time with family & food 😁 Looking forward to more drives with you all after EID, my car is driving with engine temperature of 69 Celsius, so I need to drive it during summer to make it run "normal" operating temperature 😂 Pic of the blown-up radiator below. Thank you, @nithish468! I really enjoyed the winter fit this year! I think for me some honourable mentions must go to @J-P L (love seeing the Jimny’s and it gave me great faith driving alongside someone else with a manual transmission when I had the old JK), and@Mark B and @Zed for their unstoppable tinkering with their cars! My vote however will be going to @Marek…love seeing that beast out on the sand, and if I wasn’t already setup with the JL I’d definitely have designs on chasing a similar setup!

oh i hope it's not too late, in terms of stock cars that are ready for sand offroading from the get-go, I'd vote for @RiadJL & @Gautam Banka 's Jeep 392 V8 HEMI 6.4L that already comes with winch and proper wheels 👍 Albeit, I'd still modify 392's cooling, since it comes with electric fan from stock (friend says the 392 overheats in advanced drives). Similarly capable from showroom would be @Dodi Syahdar Bronco Raptor edition 🐎. But the car I'm still amazed with, even with limited parts availability, is @Srikumar & @Brett Eicher's Jeep Cherokee 🔥 That classic can still climb dunes very well 😃

I know I'm probably not original here, but damn, those 392s… always the chillest until it’s time to climb. Then boom — full drama. V8 roar, sand flying, tires clawing... @Gurcharan Mehta 🫠

When i hear a loud supercharger noise, followed by a hearty laugh, i know @Zed is in my convoy And it always brings a smile to my face! The hours Zeddy has put in this car, pre or post roll events, upgrades, and the huge amount of testing, tinkering, and trying to find very smart technical upgrades, makes me truly think he likes the LC100 more than anything in the world (well maybe except food and his family) 😁 I truly respect people who spend weekends next to their mechanic, trying new things, and learning on the go. I am sure thanks to his vehicles he is now much smarter than 99% of the car mechanics in this country. Hats off Zeddy! May we enjoy many more drives with you!

Myself, @Emanuel & @J-P L drove in this area today with Ale. Your suspension is going to get a great work out. There’s a lot of deep cross tracks in this area. But it’ll be fun all the same. Looking forward to it 👍🏻

My vote is the for @Frans M LC71. It’s beautiful, retro styling, tough, rugged and reliable. the 70 series has around in various forms since 1984 (if my thinking is right), still beloved today and sold pretty much as it was back then. Admittedly I’m a bit of a Toyota fan boy (first car, imported 1999 Corolla) who doesn’t really like modern technology. Two things on earth will survive a nuclear holocaust, cockroach’s and the 1GRFE engine 😂. A close second place would be @Frederic Isuzu Trooper. Great green machine.

@Mark B's gladiator definitely gets my vote - beyond being a beautiful beast that has been very carefully worked on i believe that is best equipped to help others in their time of need (referencing a recent drive with looper in the lead n Mark sorting out two or three pop outs very very efficiently) Was wondering how @ChrisW's car was not mentioned till now - another wow machine. Owning an FJ - I'm a big fan of@Rob S's FJ and @Marek's stormtrooper. So many brilliant machines here at carnity - cars collectively worth a 'minimum' of at least half a million on every drive. Trucks, project machines, V8s, stock cars, n some vintages as well 😝 - 4x4s in every shape, size, age n form. It is really difficult to pick out a single best car. Can there please be special mentions or sub categories 😅.

I would like to propose the 4runner Storm Trooper of @Marek. Love the way yours has progressed over the last year. Subtle mods to the looks, great suspension and the recent super charger providing some wild horses.

so many to choose from! but I’ve always think @Andrei S Grey FJ is a slick looking car! I’m not an FJ fan but it’s turns my head, fantastic colour and just the right amount of mods to be slick but not over the top

Suzuki Jimny. Completely underrated in UAE off-roading. Great power to weight, awesome JP reliability, and tackles everything in the hands of a competent driver @Rafey Hashmi @J-P L

So in the usual way of offroading being a cover story for acquiring shiny toys...I found enough excuses to buy the recently released ARB brushless compressor. I've been meaning for some time now to replace the wiring that runs power back to my onboard compressor at the rear of the vehicle, and decided to upgrade the compressor at the same time. Background The ARB twin compressor has been around for many years and is a well known, reliable and high performing compressor. I've had one fitted to my current and previous vehicle, and generally it works very well. I've had some sporadic issues with popping fuses, which I think could be a mixture of current in-rush and underspecified wiring. ARB's latest iteration of these compressors replaces the brushed motors with brushless motors - and promises higher compressor performance with like-for-like power consumption. The move to brushless motors also offers other benefits, like the ability for the control circuits inside the compressor to more easily throttle the compressor (to avoid excess heat or voltage drop) and stagger the start-up of the motors to mitigate current in-rush. Installation I have the compressor installed in the cargo compartment storage area (under the cargo floor lid). The first step was to replace the wiring from the battery to the rear of the car. I replaced the wiring with 4AWG (6AWG would be sufficient but this gives some room for drawing more power in the future if I want it), and ran it from the battery, down the inside-rear of the wheel arch, along the top of the frame, over the rear suspension, and then through a rubber grommet into the bottom of the cargo tray. The new unit is a similar form factor to the previous one, but it is not 100% like-for-like swap. There are changes to the mounting solution (it sits on a base plate with a quick release clamp - and the bolt pattern is different), and to the wiring/switch connections (small changes to the setup of the grounds, and the wiring loom simplifies down into two plugs only - one for each compressor pump). The width and height of the unit is I think the same, but it has slightly more depth. You will note from the wiring diagram that the fuses are now 60A per side. The compressor is specified to run at 45A per motor (90A total) steady-state, but the additional 15A being for current in-rush. I would suggest that if running a long wiring run, as I am, the wiring is sized to the 60A per side requirement. First Impressions The installation was easy - the instructions are super clear, the included wiring harness, switch etc makes it all very easy. The hardest part was the cable routing! The unit is designed to use car chassis grounds, so you only need to run positive wires and then pickup on good chassis grounds local to the unit. It's loud! It's noticeably louder than the unit I replaced. You wouldn't want to sit in the car while it runs continuously. The clincher - performance! I did a back to back test of the old unit to the new. Taking my 35" KN02's from 7.5 PSI to 35PSI using a four-hose setup - ARB Twin Compressor (old): 609 seconds, ARB Brushless Twin Compressor (new): 407 seconds. This supports ARB's claim of 50% higher throughput (in volume). Conclusion Another high quality product from ARB - again a very nice design, good quality of wiring harnesses and physical installation, and top-end performance. Is it worth the higher price point however...? If you already have the regular ARB twin, then I don't think it's worth a change at the moment. If you are installing onboard air for the first time and you're looking for a premium solution - then I can recommend this. As always however...none of this is essential if you're just starting out...something cheap and effective from the usual outlets in Dubai will work just fine too!

I would like to share here my "Self-declaration", with the intention of applying for a Fewbie promotion. I did my first drive with Carnity as a Newbie in Pink Rock (22/03/2025) (the drive of this topic). Although I fully enjoyed the trip and had a very good experience as Newbie, I have some previous contact with sand-driving which I believe qualifies me for a promotion to Fewbie level. I own my Nissan XTerra since December 2024. 0) 5 different touristic package dune-bashing experiences (closely observing the tricks and skills of the drivers), 2 of them in Liwa (!) 1) 2-day Crossing of Wahiba Sands in Oman, in a convoy of 12 cars (Oman Raiders, private group). Main learnings: (A) tire pop-out from agressive turn on slope; (B) failing to side-cross a dune crest, sliding sideways down the slope risking roll, ending fully stuck with car body on the sand, requiring careful towing to get unstuck; (C) failing to ascend a dune by taking a too diagonal line, getting stuck, carefully reversed back, retried successfully on a straight line; (D) rich learning from observing other cars’ situations and how to recover. 2) 2h-3h exploratory trip Sweihan desert, 3 cars. A few minor stuck situations, amongst the 2 less experienced drivers, learning how to recover and avoid to repeat from the most experienced driver. 3) 2-day mild driving (w/ camping) in Ras al-Khaiman (near THE DUNES Camping), 2 cars. Some night drive. Longer 2h exploratory trip, on diverse ground (sand, rocks, mud, vegetation etc). No incidents. 4) 2h easy drive around Al Qudra desert, 2 cars. Got stuck ascending frontally a small steep loose sand slope due to too little power (too carefull), easy recovery with towing from 2nd car. 5) Organized a desert rave event in Half Desert Dubai, transporting all necessary equipment plus passengers in the car - observing complete different response from the car due to the heavy load. 6) 5h-6h drive near Mleiha Fossil Rock protected area, 2 cars. Got stuck sideways on ascent due to too diagonal line and too little speed, risking roll (once again), easy recovery with towing from 2nd car. Noticed big difference in sand with temperature throughout the day. Found it challenging to predict the technical difficulties of the next move when leading and not following another car. Ascent to Al Faya Dune, no incidents.

Oh yes, the 392 is impressive. Almost a sleeper on SZR as well.

Dear Desertnauts in preparations for tomorrow's, Friday, drive, I hope you don't mind reversing the itinerary, from Badayer Shops to Bezhad Ranch (in al Manam). This gives us the opportunity to avoid the rush of sun setters at Badayer, which usually becomes unmanageable after 4PM. So, please pay attention to the published meeting place, where we'll meet and deflate, before driving south-west toward Bezhad Ranch. We'll still follow the sun's arc in the sky, keeping it more or less to our right, as we move across the area's star dunes, to Iftar and Super Bowl, and eventually to the last major dune before exiting near the E55 Road (al Madam to Al Shuwaib). I will have a tough time deciding when I am eligible to vote. I used to drive a SWB Pajero, so will have a soft spot for the Pajeros. I also like the current Jimny - compact, capable and reliable. Rented one before and drove around quite a bit but was not allowed to take it offroad. I also like the large V8s in the form of the Raptors, Ram etc. I also have a thing for the retro brethren in the form of Y61, LC71, LC 100.

Since we cant vote for our own cars, I will vote for the next closest one which is a beautiful 99 Red color Manual XJ owned by @Brett Eicher. Love the way he has setup the interiors of his car which easily transforms into an overland vehicle and has sufficient space to sleep inside when needed. Plus the fact that a 25 year old+ granny can still give the younger ones a run for their money. I am sure there are many cars that would make one's favorite list but in the event of an apocalypse, there will be two things that would survive - a cockroach and a XJ 😂 @Brett Eicher you will have to help me with the pics of your car buddy

Thank you Gaurav for the amazing drive! As discussed, I just wanted to share a quick summary of my off-roading experience as part of my request to be considered for a level upgrade. So far, I’ve done 7 off-road drives in total: 4 drives with another off-roading club here in the UAE, where I got familiar with convoy rules, dune driving, and basic recovery techniques. Plus 3 drives with my partner, who's an experienced off-roader, and helped me practice more advanced stuff in a one-on-one setting. During those personal trips, I had the chance to work on: Different self-recovery techniques, including recovery from the bottom of a bowl (where I got happily stuck) and using a rope The importance of never fighting gravity How to properly apply the right amount of acceleration Applying the right steering input to stay smooth and in control Driving at a faster pace A bit of technical dunes driving for better control How to safely do parallel crest crossings Climbing up the Iftar bowl and the surrounding dunes How to fix a pop-up Thank you again and I'm looking forward to the next drives with Carnity
