DRIVE DESCRIPTION LOG ENTRY 104: Deep within the CARNITY waypoint vaults, I have uncovered fragments of an abandoned dataset — distorted tracks winding through Khatim, their coordinates half-buried in corrupted files and broken telemetry. The archives were supposed to be complete. They are not. Sections have been erased, deliberately — a digital void where the old routes should have been. The more I restore, the stranger it becomes: paths that loop into themselves, waypoints that shift when cross-referenced, and drive reports from past explorers abruptly ending mid-sentence. It has become clear that I cannot face this alone. I will assemble a small team — veterans of the dunes, mechanics, navigators, and will try recruit an old desert scout who swears he’s seen lights move across Khatim at night, to support us. Each carries their own reason for coming, but perhaps none can quite explain why they feel so compelled to explore this mysterious zone. Sunday, we set out at dawn. Our aim: to retrace the ghost routes, to test the limits of what the CARNITY archive conceals. The risks are obvious — terrain instability, magnetic interference, communications dead zones — but the true danger may lie in what waits beyond the last recorded coordinates. The desert is patient. It watches. Khatim will not give up its secrets willingly. UPDATE 20251013: THE EASTWARD DRIFT An eager team has raised their hands, and pledged their enthusiasm and engines to peering past Khatim’s dark edge. I have mapped the existing routes, only to find every historical trail bending directly eastward — an unnatural convergence, as if the desert itself were drawing us away from something. To the south of these tracks lies a blank — a data void, a digital black hole. None of the recovered coordinates or trails lead into it. The telemetry simply collapses, as though that region refuses to be recorded. One of the CARNITY Support team joked that perhaps the sand there doesn’t cast shadows. No one laughed. To the region further south of our path — a cluster of domes and steel towers half-buried in the dunes. The old google maps records suggest it was a lunar observation outpost — a facility built for moon sighting, seemingly long abandoned. Rumors claim it still transmits, though I have met none that have received any signal. The recovered tracks end abruptly near coordinates (24.23625, 54.96446) — my system refuses to render any trails beyond that point. Two waypoints survive in the corrupted map files. The first, marked in crimson, bears a single name: “NO-GO.” The second, untitled — its label scrambled into static — glows black on GAIA-GPS. I’ve never seen a black marker before. It isn’t supposed to exist in our waypoint schema. If the desert meant to warn us, its whisper reached us too late. The course is fixed, and the sands will decide the rest.3 points

@M.Seidam Top Notch, directly subscribt your youtube channel. Used GIS Mapping for Plantagen Managment in Africa (mainly topographic / roads / water) based on GPS data. Accuracy and features on some programs, today, is mindblowing. Love to get back on "track" with you guys and start using GPS myself. Again cool reel, thx sharing1 point

You are right, the Duelers are not really made for sharp rocks. And yes, STOCK is less headache Join us on one of the Newbie club drives1 point

Thanks Federic, I appreciate your advice. My off road trips are equally sand, wadis and mountains and, whilst I’m aware that the Duelers are OK in the sand, I’m not sure how hard wearing they will be over sharp rocks. I am thinking that the BFG’s might be a better alternative in this environment. I have been thinking that the 275x65R20 might be a possibility, but I have read various conflicting opinions about them rubbing on full lock. Once you start modifying the stock vehicles then all sorts of issues start to arise and we end up spending far more than we had originally planned for. I have looked into 18” rims, 2” lifts etc etc but my budget was spiraling out of control. Therefore I have decided to stay with stock everything for now but hopefully having a slightly higher spec tyre. Thanks again for your input, much appreciated.1 point

Hi @Adrian Lane Even though the Bridgestone Dueler is a HT tire, they are definitely not bad for light off-roading, especially in sand. Can i ask what kind of off-roading you are planning to do? Wadis and mountains? Or desert? If you drive in sand only, the Dueler will be absolutely fine. The main problem is the big rims (20inch) which means the tire sidewalls are quite low (60). Ideally it would make sense to try to fit a 275x65x20 but i am not sure if these can be easily found in the market.1 point

you should see mine... basically that's one good reason to have a snorkel (contrary to the popular opinion that it is used for water wading). Sand will always be there. And at the bottom of your oil pan too, which shows that the fine sand actually gets into the engine causing slow but visible damage to bearings. The only way to reduce that is to remember to change your air filter (cleaning alone is also good, but that does not mean you can keep the air filter for 10kkm - not in these conditions!), clean your intake after heavy drives and don't follow regular 15kkm oil change, keep it as short as you can: 6-7kkm for those who run extreme drives is a must. And don't even think about any sport or cone filters...1 point
