2010 Chevrolet Lumina Review

Recommended Posts

The Chevrolet Lumina is essentially a rebadged Holden Commodore, made by General Motors in Australia.

Introduced back in 2007 the four-door Lumina still manages to look contemporary though it is not as striking as its arch rival, the Ford Taurus.

However the Lumina’s lack of flamboyance is more than covered by its performance. It is also one of the few mid-size cars available with rear-wheel drive.

Available in three variants – LTZ, S and SS – the Lumina offers buyers a choice between a V6 and a V8 engine. While the LTZ is aimed at the family car buyer the S and SS are sporty variants aimed at performance enthusiasts.

The S and LTZ are powered by a 288bhp, 3.6-litre V6 motor that lends this generously proportioned sedan peppy performance. This motor is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual select. If it’s sheer performance one is seeking the Lumina SS is the one to go for.

A 362bhp, 6.0-litre V8 mated to a six-speed manual transmission gives this family car sportscar like performance and tons of brawn. The SS has been recorded doing the 0 to 100kph sprint in under six seconds and is capable of a top whack of over 250kph.

The S and SS feature sports suspension, body kit and rear spoiler while the SS gets exclusive quad exhausts, projector headlamps, sports taillights and larger 18-inch alloy wheels with wider rubber. The SS also comes with sports bucket seats clad in leather and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) to manage the extra power. Dual front airbags come as standard while additional side airbags feature on the LTZ and SS variants.
