overheating and clicking

after getting the alternator change the car is makes a clicking noise and starts to overheat when driving for more then an hour at a stretch and the when i accelerate the clicking gets faster and the exhaust sounds like a truck but it goes of when the car is cooled off.

i am in a confused state and need help

May be im totally wrong but i want to help you with educated guess, so please forgive me i sound stupid and doing too much assumption.

As you say it sound very weird problem and never heard one before having corelation between alternator, clicking, overheating and exhaust noise.

May be possible the alternator you got is for lower AMP than required by OEM specs, hence due to which current supply isnt enough and making relays clicking on/off. Because of same the cooling system isnt doing good job esp AC fan thats why after 1 hour car heats up. Exhaust noise, cant guess the reason.

Check the alternator AMp first, if its same then get the computer check done which will save lot of money in guess work.
