KiaDxb
The 2011 Kia Sorento is a bit of a dichotomy. On the outside it looks rather fresh with its newly installed chrome grille that flows into some rather sharp looking headlights. But that’s not all that’s new on the Sorento, the platform that underpins the car is all new – instead of the old body-on-frame design, the Sorento now uses a more car-like monocoque. This means that the Sorento might not be as capable off-road as the old model – the deletion of the low-range gearbox also plays its part here – however, very few Sorento buyers actually used their cars off the beaten path. So with a new look and a new chassis, you would think that Kia would give the 2011 Sorento a new interior to complete the set. And whilst certain elements might look a bit natty and up to date, the general fit and finish and quality of materials used is a little lacking. Still, at least there’s a decent amount of kit to keep your mind off it – the standard CD/MP3 player is pretty punchy and the leather interior helps lift the overall ambience a little even if it is finished in a drab grey colour. The 3.3-litre V6 engine has got a decent punch of power with 241bhp on offer to provide a good performance out on the open road. And as an added bonus, the mid-size SUV comes with a five-speed automatic gearbox unlike the ageing four-speed that’s used in all Kias that are smaller than the Sorento.
