Start checking with the fan clutch first instead of throwing parts at it and if your rad, fan and theromostat are around 10 plus years. In this country and it's weather its better to do some preventive maintenance have replace all three. Included coolant hoses. And if you can afford it even the water pump. If you are planning to keep the car fpr sometime that is Better to do that than get stuck on the side of the road with a overheated car. Comes out cheaper labour wise also instead of paying fpr each item individually. But from my personal anecdotal experience this is usually the either the fan or a clogged radiator. Start with checking the fan clutch first. If thermostat was faulty it would be heating all the time.

If you dont hear gushing fan when temp is rising, then its radiator viscose clutch fan has gone. If you hear it gushing then the radiator is choked and need proper cleaning not flushing, with new coolant. For this exact free advise I spent a fortune 10 years back and almost all garages ripped me by saying multiple theories and stories and still car was overheating after 5k spent. And yeah btw temp rising on road is not normal by any means. If its offroad I can understand that.

A small leak like from a leaking compressor would take a few months to show. If it's working fine now, leave it and get it checked when the issue creeps up again.

Ok let me get this right you want something with a 5 second 0-100, 300plus hp non American non German reliable under 30k car. Would be easier to find rocking horse shit than something that checks all those boxes. Good luck and let us know when you've found that elusive unicorn

Mine is from experience of a hardcore petrolhead's ownership of two Porsches. They're magnificently engineered beasts, but the electronic failures are horrifying and regular. I wouldn't ever consider Porsches to be "reliable with reasonable maintenance". Let's agree to disagree and not force each other's opinion down the other's throats. Wow. A very nice write-up Gaurav, Jebel Hafeet is a nice place to go to. I would just recommend to bring your own chairs, table, food and BBQ for the top. The quality in the cafeteria and coffee shop is not the best. The furniture are broken and the place might sometimes be quite dirty. Based on a few experiences over the last years, the hotel Mercure gives you good value for money. The hotel is located with a stunning view. The restaurant have good food but is quite costly. The place has certainly lost its former glory and are in need of renovation. It is rundown inside. The climate control of the pool doesn't work.They had a simple roller-coaster like slide and a few other activities that doesn't work. Not even the walk paths outside the main compound are maintained to be used. But as said, you get what you pay for and you can normally get it at a good price...

If the radiator is 10 years old, it's better to change. And that must be the case in your failed cleaning attempt. I have core-cleaned my Pajero radiator twice and that resulted in stable heat gauge every time. Dolphin and 400, must be in 1990's dude. I got dolphin triple core for 700 dhs, in 2012, must be a lot more now.

Even if the thermostat is gone then also viscose clutch fan should engage as that is a purely mechanical and independent device to bring down the boiling coolant after certain degrees. @Frederic temp movement on road is not normal and not acceptable unless you are offroading. Viscose clutch fan can be tested in two ways and most of the time 2nd one fails: When the car is switched off, move the fan blades with hand and see if it rotate freely then it's bad. It should have a good amount of resistance, as with full hand force it should just move a blade or two and not even a full rotation. When the car is overheating, viscose fan clutch should engage and roar loud noise as you are on 2k-3k rpm sounds, that's where clutch fan become free and move with idle RPM and resulting in gushing noise. 8 out of 10 times, when the clutch fan fails this is a first thing it fails on. And this is often time wrongly diagnosed, by suggesting to change 3 million other car parts than the viscose clutch fan. Your paper sticking in fan is only testing the first bit and not the second part which is most important to bring the cooling down.

I absolutely agree that jebel hafeet Is a great place. I live within 30 minutes of driving to summit. Best spot for me is the outdoor restaurant mercure hotel late evening 8 pm having a coffee or dinner with Al Ain lights at a distance. views during the day are great. i have to admit for a bit I thought gaurav was going to give hiking route on this mountain which I have been searching for some time but what am I thinking!!!! Cool didn't know Jeep did that. If I were you I would give it a through once over. belts, hoses, plugs etc etc also change all fluids, including x case and diffs. also check to see the qudra drive and those varilok diffs are working as they are supposed to and does it still have it OEM HD suspension or its been replaced with cheap bits. Also make sure what oil the transmission xcase and diffs need. Don't assume they all use regular stuff.

.Classic symptoms of Choked radiator or fan clutch on its way out. If the cooling system is working properly than it should not matter whether standing in traffic or moving. Temp should stay normal.

No matter what modern engineering says that you can start the car and drive off immediately for better fuel efficiency. PLEASE DON'T DO IT. Give at least 20-30 seconds to let all the fluids reach the critical components for a better life of Engine, Gear, 4x4, AC, Power steering etc. Gone are the days when you start the car and wait for 5 minutes to let it fully warm, but still few seconds delay goes a long way. I always start my car, before I get in so that by the time I sit and fasten the belt and roll down the windows its good enough 20-30 seconds. Also, make sure to start AC after these 20-30 seconds delay and not immediately to put additional load on the cold and dry engine.

RIP Fan clutch. Fan should stop soon after the engine is switched off. Yours is freewheeling like a bicycle tyre. Get the fan clutch changed.

From how long you own this to call it a reliable? And which year model comes in 30? Friend of mine cried for 2 summers and then sold at half the price after spending another half of car value in maintenance. AC issue, engine cooling, brittle plastic parts breaking and failing were major concerns.

A bit of an update on this. It has been 10 days since i got my car regassed, and until now it is still blowing cool air. Could there still be a possibility there is a leak?

Mercedes SLK350. It is 277hp but it is very small and light. Cornering like crazy, it is sticking to road.

Just start it. You only need to wait for the glow plug light to go out if it’s a diesel.

Disagree on the Porsche. For reliability in the budget, apart from the VQ twins, I'd suggest considering the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. 3.8 V6, GDI, RWD.

I use to follow both as @Gauravand @Barry technics to start and stop the car use to give about 10-15 sec start and stop after 10-15sec it’s usually more not less, I have a question to ask do we need to switch the electronics for few seconds till the lights go off or we can start immediately without waiting.... I use to wait till the lights go off but seen many use to start immediately

I came to know it from the garage only after scanning and it’s confirmed, the pipes and connections all are well and no issues at all

What happened to me was that I was looking for an offroad club, although there was a lot of them out there, they were all in different places and were not structured at all, some lived in whatsapp groups or facebook groups that did not look professional or organized at all (even if they might be, but they just did not look like organized from the outside). I liked Carnity because: Was clear and structured They actually like teaching others; and They all have a great attitude even if they get frustrated with some of us (specially with me LOL). I came to Carnity for the off-road club but actually stayed for the community of highly enthusiastic, knowledgeable (and opinionated) members and that there is a place where we can all agree (or agree to disagree).

Well, that depends on what type of driver are you, in terms of making an accident. I haven't made one in last 10 years, so I opted for non-agency repair and I have tried RSA non-agency repair when someone reversed his Renault Duster and made a small hole in my Range bumper. It was a good and professional facility and not shady workshop like 99% of other insurance companies send you to. I think it was Euro Gulf garage or something, part of Europcar rent a car company.

I agree it could be the fan but most likely could only be the thermostat, if all fluid levels are okay and you hear the fans working then my best guess is the thermostat that is malfunctioning.

Insurance Premium depends on your NCB and age of your license in UAE. I got decent deals on Insurance as i have very clean driving history with nil claims till date. I insured my Prado with the value of 150K @ Dhs. 3500 approx all inclusive which includes offroad cover . This was because im with one insurance company since 2013. Try Oman Insurance and RSA online for the approx rates. I found Oman Insurance rates on a lower side. You will find many websites such as insurancemarket.ae, souqalmal.com etc to compare motor insurance coverage and premiums. Disclaimer: Im no where related to the companies mentioned ahead and the feedback was purely based on my personal experience.

Is there a definite way to test the viscose clutch? I’ve read here in the past about sticking a magazine slowly between the impeller and see if it stops the fan. That test would surely only verify if the clutch is “loose” on normal idle? The second way was rotating the impeller by hand and it should only do 2 or 3 full revolutions and then lock up. Is that correct ? my temps are ok now but also go up 5-8 degrees when standing in traffic sometimes. And the gushing sound of which @Gaurav even made a video of isn’t something I hear in my car.

In my experience cleaning flushing having it rodded out really doesnt help fpr some reason. Only proper cure Ive found is to get a new radiator and don't skimp and get a 400dhs dolphin radiator too.

@Sidshk go to a radiator shop, get your radiator cleaned, flushed and fill with Mitsubishi original coolant. Coolant has a life too and needs to be changed as it looses its effectiveness with time. Like @desertdude said get the fan checked also, might be getting weak.

Normal temperature for the Pajero is just below the half way mark. In bumper to bumper traffic with limited airflow through the radiator it can happen that the engine heated up a bit. But if it returned to normal in smooth traffic then it should not be a concern. Anyways do check your coolant level and if it keeps happening you might want to have a look at your radiator an maybe get it flushed.
