Hello gents! I might join as well, still dont know if will go for noon drive or will attend this am drive. I got a JK sport, as a desert car, so kept Y62 for roads only. Enjoying the smooth ride now, completely different experience)

I second @Gaurav bhai opinion. @desertdude I've followed you from the time I started offloading. I followed your choice of vehicle, your style of driving and the routes you have taken. I don't doubt your off-road skills and could still learn a lot from you, however the newer generation of everything comes more apt and safe for the roads. With all the computers kicking in with so much data which modern vehicles read and send signals to the car @100 pieces of information every second mostly the car decides what it's gotta do rather than driver skills. Moreover these pieces of data can mean disaster offloading at times as these rules should not apply offroad. For instance while side slopping we all know that you should continue acceleration through the whole dune without applying brakes as incidents happen when you break your momentum. In most modern cars including the Y62 the engine kills the power as it thinks you're gonna flip. This in tirn puts you more in danger. Another instance can be while criss crossing the car thinks it's over turned and engages side airbags which is again not the best solution for off roading. With our recent experiences there are many more incidents which make us think the modern 4x4s like Y62 are not meant for off road.

We can beat that easy. There are enough professionals on here with the technical knowledge. I bet I can make a mustang beat that speed with a long enough track. Just find the sponsorship.

Before commenting on this @desertdude please answer: How many times you have been to offroad in last 10 years? How many times you have seen stock Nissan Patrol Y62 for dune bashing? How many times you have driven Nissan Patrol Y62 for dune bashing? Bumper is only the first turn off and one of the major road block to take this beast offroad. Second is the tire profile and size, not meant for offroad from any angle. Third is ton of electric sensors that fails intermittently. In one of the last drive @Adel Muradov Y62 Nissan Patrol got bogged in a small ditch, could have cleared by its own, but unable to crawl out. After several tries, we winch him out and realized that it's 4x4 light was blinking and it has switch to 2 wheel mode when he wanted to switch to LO gear from High Gear. After coming out, after few meters drive it engaged back to 4x4 and he was fine. Even while I was winching Asif was on drivers seat and kept of giving gas to assist the winching process and rear wheels were spinning but front were not moving at all. Engine, HorsePower, Gear and everything is good, just that its no longer bullt for such offroad use anymore. That's why Nissan brought back Patrol Safari Y61, as its been tested and proven for UAE offroad scene.

A differential isn’t something you can just swap parts on. It needs to be properly set up, pinion height, backlash, bearing preload. I would be tempted to drop the oil out, put some engineers blue on the gears and rotate it a few times to see what’s really going on inside.

I am not a true offroader, but i can see the Y62 isnt a real offroad car. Its a flex. Hey, I can afford the newest Patrol so FU rest of you poor people driving round in your old model Patrols and Pajeros. I can afford a newer car than you, even if it is crap offroad.

Maybe wjen I was 20 something years old when I used to do some really crazy stuff, but in a horrific accident that could have meant death for me and my friends with me at the wheels. I use ViewRanger it is easy to use and works with Android I have it in my Jeep's Android player console and it works perfectly I can follow and record all tracks and it gives me the direction I'm going. It's really good.

That's a strawmen argument even then to answer you with all your weekend warrioring combined over the years in the sandbox I still have more offroading experience, because you do this on the weekend for fun. I did this as a profession daily and sometimes twice a day all over the country. Places you've never been to and can't go no more because they are off limits now. Plus post retirement weekend warrior offroading for a good number of years as well . Now let me ask you how many times have you been in off road in a stock modern 4x4 off-road? A stock Patrol will kick a 2020 Pajeros ass anyday of the week and twice on Sunday. And your example is anecdotal and doesn't prove anything other than driver error not being use his vehicle properly. I've out driven a previous gen 2005 Vtec Patrol with a 3' straight pipe and chipped motor in a 1988 2dr 4cyl Pathfinder with a leaking carburetor. Does that mean the 1998 Pathfinder was better, no. The driver of the patrol didn't know what he was doing. Only issue is you measure off road performance in how far something can climb faya. While majority of the people are not really interested in that because it's just a pissing contest as to whose is bigger.

I agree for the most part, especially about using the diff-lock on hard surfaces, but chipped gear teeth won't affect performance.

Here another interesting story for LC300 engine spec sheet from Forbes. Seems like having a fate of Range Rover (2016) and after few years of feedback, will go back to bigger V8 (2018). Expected to be called the Land Cruiser ‘300,’ the all-new 10th generation vehicle will employ the model’s first-ever turbo hybrid setup. turbos have long been around they are pretty solid unless you aiming for high boost... even the civic has introduced them...

Nothing but a facelift and new rear lights. Dunno why everybody is hating on it? It's a perfectly capable off road car. Remember nowadays almost nothing comes ready for extreme rock and rolling right out of the box. Some bumper mods are always a requirement. I'll tell you one thing I rather be in a Nissan Patrol stock out in the desert over 95% of today's 4x4 in stock form

In USA the LC from the 100 series up was never offered with the 6 cyl engine. But for the middle East it will be an upgrade from the the current NA 4.0 v6 on offer which is under 250hp AFAIK But engines with turbos just more shit to go wrong, intercoolers, more pipework, turbos them selves. If you are going the forced induction route dunno why more manufacturers don't go the supercharged route?

Basically they all said it's normal wear and tear and after certain time off-road the spider gears will break. They also mentioned that it's because of the bigger tires - usually 33" and above, I am driving 33s.

Any solid reasoning for breaking rear differential....? Or just a regular offroad use is enough to break?

So I asked on a WhatsApp group for Jeep owners and yeah they will break at one point this is very common. Next time I'll buy an FJ instead of a Jeep 😂.

I am using wikiloc for recording tracks and you can put additional way points with pictures so you can remember what's where seems decent up till now...and while recording the screen turns off to save battery... haven't had the chance to to replay any particular track until now but will soon see that side of it too... It's also having paid version but I am using the free one

I had researched a lot on this higher differential ratio. The build quality is generally better for the higher ratios, but this fact of wheel spin needs to be checked. When I read about it, didn't seem to make sense to go up the ratio. Correct me if I am wrong, but if the ratio says 4.56, that means for every 4.56 rotation of the engine the wheel would spin 1 time. This is good in Rocky terrain and you have the max torque band in the region of 3000-4000 rpm where you need to rotate the tires just a little over the rocks to cross the obstacle. But in sand it's the opposite. When you need to do the high hill climb, I believe a lower ratio is better as you will have more wheel spin at the same torque band.

It's good that it was in a garage parked if it were sanaya then they would have a hard time recognize the car in 2 weeks time...
