Surprise to see very limited response from our regular offroaders: Pull angle was more than 45 degree of tolerance. Ideally it should be always straight or anything close to the straight with max deviation up to 45 degrees, that too with lot of caution, patience, observation and feedback from different angles. They could have used driver side tow hook of FJC and Pajero to counter the angles to some extent. They could have use the viking rope for elastic soft tug than one big jerk. No radio communication or coordination with guy supervising the tug or filming. No use of 3 beep system, FJC could have used long beep to stop the Pajero (if trained). Both car windows should be rolled down for catching at least those last second scream. FJC tires were not pointing in the direction of tug, causing instant resistance to flip. Over enthusiast Pajero driver, who probably have not enough experience in technical recoveries kept on pulling. Clear the sand wall from driver side tire front side. Clearly it was bogged down to topple like this instantly. People don't use enough shovel as they think pulling will sort everything out. Prep before the pull to clear sand from all resistance is very important and in such critical angles its life saving. Ideally winch is better (if available) in such tricky situation to get slow motion feedback and stop in time. Give such critical tug in several tranches to access the situation first with a feedback from anyone supervising. Once car is moving with slightly gentle tugs without lifting any side, then proceed with little stronger tugs. Recover from backside with half or quarter the rope if front is totally hit in sand.

I can think of a few issues here- 1) The pull was in the wrong direction 2) The pull was too hard 3) The tow rope was attached to the wrong side of the towed vehicle 4) The towed driver kept his wheels pointing straight ahead- he should have turned into the direction of the pull

I will, but I need our aspiring fewbies and Intermediate offroaders should think and try first. You have done a good start with a wrong angle.

Nope. I never understood the whole paying to stream music thing. Just download your music and listen to it and save your data. If you’re into streaming, you can download apps like tunein for free. Why pay when you can get it free? I listen to a lot of obscure internet radio stations and it’s a good way to find new music. If I hear something I like I’ll download it. If I really like it I’ll buy the cd to support the artist.

Social media. The cancer on humanity. People seem to lose their morals for a few likes and some internet points that they can never spend. I have some good stories about the German police but they aren’t for a family friendly forum. Maybe on the next drive 😂

Mountain Dew is yellowish green. Where are you buying your dew? 🤔 Its not a big issue, don’t worry so much about it. Buy a couple of bottles of coolant flush, it’s 15 dhs a bottle max and run it in the system for a day. Then flush it all out with water. Always flush from the bottom to the top, that way all the crap with float out the top. If you flush top to bottom, the water will find the easiest way out and only half the engine will get flushed so it’s 2 steps forward 2 steps back. In pajero you need to use a glycol based coolant, at least 50% glycol. Anything else and you will end up with the same brown coolant. But a proper flush is imperative.

Im not a big fan of U drive since the charged my card for AED 280 for dropping a Dubai car in Sharjah. Car I got was extremely dirty and smelly. Plus it took me 30 minutes to be able to use the car. Horrible experience.

This. If you need to ask questions like this, it might not be the ideal thing for you to invest in.

Rent a car is needed for a week, so any car which is cheapest is the best option.

Udrive is an option. For daily rent they are expensive but on a minute rent basis its pretty good.

Totally agree with @Jeh those straight lines, better clearance and rugged look is more than required whether it is capable offroad or not. Rav4 is capable offroad in right hands, but you don't see people flaunting Rav4 as oppose to G wagon. G Wagon is capable but hardly less than 1% of G owner will ever venture in desert / offroad. @Frederic we all know this industry standard, regulation and bla bla but I still see Wrangler preserving their legendary looks than adding the curves of Grand Cherokee. If LR really wanted it, they could have done that without distorting the legend image, real brand equity for LR. This in other words is "confusingly similar" to discovery, evoque, kia sorento and 1000 other common 4x4's.

It needs more ground clearance, period. They published a video of desert testing, but I seriously doubt the driver's ability to drive in the desert, in other words, he is a joke.

The curvatures have reasons: * Aerodynamics to make sure you get the best possible performance vs consumption. In 2019 this is a big concern while this was not the case 20 years back. * Safety: There are thousands of rules and regulations of which they have to abide with regards to cripple zones, pedestrian safety, crash impact testing, and so many others....

IMO this is horrendous. I feel the reason why RR designs standout on the road is cos of its straight lines running parallel to the road. The moment those lines turn into a curve its just like any other car on the road. Thats the reason i detested the Evoque design. I still very much prefer the boxy style of defender. Its simply beautiful.

I have seen the Defender in a Zebra print quite a few times on Al Qudra road the last couple of months. Probably taking it out for testing. It's gonna be an expensive rig, but if it performs well, than at least i know what i should be putting aside in my piggy bank for the next coming years to eventually try to find a secondhand one

Digging it, pretty snazzy from the inside and out. Would have loved to have seen a V8 in it but 400hp in a 90 will and should make it fly.

How can you compare Defender with Jimny vs G vs Wrangler. Time will tell who we see regularly in the desert and/or on workshop. So far true offroader to stand by its name is Wrangler only in the compared league. From commercials itself look it lacks the UAE style offroad. We need more videos of tearing dunes, ridge riding, straight climbs and sideys for UAE market.

My first thoughts: * Retro-style, boxy design, which i personally like, especially on the SWB model. * Trim levels that go from basic all the way to the top, which is a bit overkill for whoever decides to buy a Defender. * The 2.0l turbocharged with 300hp is a good start, but the 3 liter straight six turbocharged 400hp engine will be a beast. * Alu-body vs ladderframe: we've seen most 4x4's making that cross-over to save on weight and gain more performance. * Air suspension: Fantastic, and standard on the LWB (110). Reliability issues with this climate ?

@skumar83 and @Gaurav have got one part absolutely right. He was in 2WD and that was the main cause. Another cause could be the soft suspensions, as when the front of the Jeep hit the other side of the dune it was not engaged in 4x4 which put the complete load of the car in front, plus the soft suspension allowed the front bumper to dig into the sand. With the forward inertia the back of the Jeep kept moving which caused the flip. 90% though if he was in 4x4 it would not let the car flip. Winner is @skumar83 and @Gaurav.
