Good morning everybody, It was a pleasure to meet you all, looking forward to meet you soon. To the "sleepers/ silent readers" of the forum who are considering to join but hesitating (because you might feel uncomfortable to join a new club) , the Carnity off-road club is a friendly, not pushing, and what's very important, safety first - community. If you are hesitating, don't worry, just show up, you will not regret that you came. The day started with a safety-briefing. It might be long for some people, but certainly necassary for new joiners. When you start operating a vehicle/ machine or anything that might hurt yourself/ other people/ environment, it is important that there is an understanding of the individual who is participating and also important, that the group has an idea of what kind of person they are dealing with for the first time. A difference in: -nationality, -equipment, -experience + the new environment for a totally new bie, a briefing is the tool to bring all the heads together. I can only encourage such briefings. It might be boring for some and they might loose the interest (especially in the early morning where we are thinking of our soft bed and pillow). Even if the person only remembers a bit what was given during a briefing/ instruction/ a shared story or de-brief, this little bit is still something new he or she has learned. I just wanted to emphasise this part of the day, because I believe that there are people who think that such new-bie briefings are excessive, but keep up the good work marshallers, keep doing it. The drive itself was progressive, good learning curve, opportunities to play a bit. For the newbies there was the opportunity to practice with in seat instruction. Very good to build your confidence. The day ended with a social gathering in the shades to de-brief, share stories and introduce ourself a bit. My apologises that I only had Oreos to share :). I hope to see you soon, but with my work I rarely have a day off on a Friday (I requested this Friday off, just to join you). Let's see when I am lucky with the scheduling department.

It was a really good experience. You guys helped us a lot to grow confidence by pacing the ride so well. I look forward to joining the next rides. Trip Report - 13 cars on a Friday brings out the fear, all thanks to @Atif bhai for not bringing in his mobile cafeteria this morning. You were dearly missed. Everyone made it on time and I'm thankful to @Srikumar for taking over the briefing duties while I was filling up the tank. We were soon off after the brief and reached the deflation point with great weather. After deflation and convoy numbering we were off. Love this terrain for all level drivers as it offers something for all level drives. As I usually do we started off with some slow paced easy drive, but with great convoy movement we were able to reach our playground with the least of troubles. This I believe was the best part of the drive as everyone had a go and were left with an ear to ear smile and loads of confidence. This was evident with the fact that the drive level was picked up at this point and everyone faired very well. At this point we quickly crossed the pile ins and were heading towards the Fossil Rocks. We inspected the drop from Fossil Rocks and unanimous decision was to go around it. There were a couple of individuals where the Jeep Wrangler just went through, however the Xterra guy was struggling and we helped him down the drop. As decided we went around Fossil Rocks and just as we reached the other side we were crossing the same 2 guys. The one in the Xterra had a question for @Shamil and seems like they are going to join Carnity also. At this point we played on the front face of Fossil Rocks with soft sand it was not possible to climb very high. Soon we were done with the attempts and headed out. While driving out to the shaded area we had our first stuck, and the rope had to come out for the only one for this drive. After a quick recovery we were quickly headed to the trees. All managed well this quick drive and we found a nice shaded area. All the snacks and drinks were out and had an amazing chat and feedback session. Once the sun was on its peak and it was getting hot we moved out to the petrol station, inflated our tires and were back on our way home. Loved the company, loved the enthusiasm during the drive. It's good to see that you guys had a smooth ride with a good crowd. I was sad that I could not make it. @Rahimdad bhai the thermos was ready for a fill with Karak Chai, the boot was loaded with the compressor, soft shackles and kinetic rope, the hummus was in the fridge and the radio fully charged...the only thing that was set incorrectly was the alarm😒.. While I dreamt of getting stuck on the first dune and pouring tea for my brothers-in-arms (Carnitybros) you guys were already rolling through Maliha. Cannot put into words what it felt like when one is looking forward to sliding on the dunes and waking up with sunlight on the face. Anyways, I will finish the humus and hope to join the next ride.

From what I understand, steam wash is the best that you can do for your car. Diesel does affect the life of rubber and I am not sure if it should be used. But it does help with removing of all the squeaky noise.

Newbie Drive This is an easy-level off-road drive designed to help beginners get comfortable with the basic techniques of driving on sand dunes. Drivers will learn how to safely go up and down dunes, perform small side slopes (“sideys”) and rainbow arcs while driving in a convoy. The drive focuses on mastering throttle control and smooth acceleration while negotiating the dunes. Who can join: Any Newbie or first-time member with a 4x4 vehicle having 8–10 inches of ground clearance and front & back tow hooks. Fewbie Drive This is a moderate-level drive where drivers will further develop and practice ridge riding, side sloping, and crisscrossing techniques on more challenging terrain. Participants will learn how to handle different dune situations while understanding vehicle limitations and working with gravity rather than against it. This level teaches drivers to become more calculated, disciplined, and technically aware, going beyond simply being a capable off-roader. The pace, terrain, and challenges are several steps above Newbie-level drives. Who can join: Any Fewbie and above level off-roader. Fewbie Plus Drive Fewbie Plus is an extension of the Fewbie level, designed for more experienced Fewbie off-roaders who want to tackle greater challenges at a faster pace and with increased technical difficulty. This level serves as a bridge between Fewbie and Intermediate drives, helping off-roaders transition smoothly while building confidence, control, and technical driving skills. Who can join: Any Fewbie Plus and above level off-roader. Intermediate Drive This level combines and refines all previously learned skills on more technical terrain and smaller, sharper dunes that demand precision, vehicle control, and advanced driving techniques. Drivers will also be introduced to larger dunes and learn how to safely navigate and connect dune lines while maintaining momentum. Intermediate drives require a high level of discipline, patience, awareness, and consistency, all while driving at a significantly faster pace than Fewbie-level drives. Who can join: Any Intermediate and above level off-roader.

Recently, I was advised to have my Camry 2006 engine steam washed. In the past I have stuck to the advice of not allowing Diesel used to clean the engine and undercarriage. The rationale behind this is that diesel will attract sand and mud to stick, making it worse in the long run. Apart from this the agency service never did this. However, I have faced instances of deliberate use of diesel even after instructing the car wash guy not to. My question is this, what is the best form of cleaning if being done on a very dirty engine and under carriage?

I tried the waterless carwash once somewhere at Jumeirah. I was not impressed with the result..

That fuse door is usually has pocket to put change coins this use to happen in our neighborhood very much then police petrol increased all became good then few months ago the broke in 12 cars in one night on the same street...

This worries me. I have left my wallet and phone in the car on many occasions and left the car open. I just always assumed UAE was safe. Time to change the way I think. Thanks for posting and I hope you catch the culprit.

One GOLDEN tip for any Pajero 4x4 that doesn’t go off-road often: once a week, switch between the 2WD, 4H, 4HLc, and 4Lo setting for while. The solenoids and vacuum actuators tend to seize after a while when not being used regularly.

Yes and best way is to engage and drive 100 meters, then disengage and drive 100 meters. Do this few times if needed and see if your 4x4 is completely disengaged and vibrations are eliminated. In lever base 4x4, sometimes it gets partially engage or disengage and release after few meters of driving. Reasons could be all of the above that Fred mentioned.

Could you go to a small patch of sand and actually try if your car is in 2WD or 4WD ? Just by quickly accelerating you will see if all tyres spin, or only the rear ones. Driving in 4WD on road will give more vibration.

This is a typical case and we all have gone through several hundred and thousands of dhs quote. My suggestion is don't touch anything in your Prado suspension if it's a daily driver, you will highly regret by firming up the ride for 1-day benefit and leaving you with a sore back for 5/6 days commute. Instead, just remove the lower lip of front bumper and/or trim them safely as much as you can and this same Prado can get you through Newbie and Fewbie level drives easy. And even to an intermediate drive, but with caution. If you have really decided to continue offroad for a long time, then spend the same money on the second car so that: You can have the best of both world (firm + soft) You will always have a backup car Your daily driver will stay clean - always Your offroad ride will be packed up ready always Maximum damage (if happen) will be the cost of an offroad car only You will be more comfortable pushing cheaper offroad ride to redline Distributing the load on two cars will extend both car life significantly

For your shape Prado, there is a modified bumper available for offroad - part metal + plastic + rubber that should suffice the RTA clause of no full metal bumper. Go to tires and accessories shop near Sahara center before Troy university crossroad and many shops have ARB, TJM and ARB look-like bumpers for Prado. My price guess will be in range 1500 - 2000 dhs max depending on your bargaining skills. Choose less aggressive to retain the same looks as you are not intending this car to modify for 100% offroad and it will be your daily driver too. Basically look for a bumper that can keep similar front looks and trim the sides upwards as that's what the impact area in this shape of Prado. Also, my suggestion is to avoid bullbar as we don't hit Kangaroo's here in UAE, as it will shave a bit of weight on the nose, which is better for a long hill climbs. And for adding additional light, I highly suggest LED bar on top than the front nose, to have a better spread and saving it from nosedive impact. Get the front bumper sorted first and drive for few drives and then judge if you need firm suspensions or stock is reasonably good for your usage.
