Trip Report - After a fight within myself to join Sweihan champs or future prospects for champs I decided to go with the Newbies. Most of us were excited and were well ahead of time specially @Halit Mert Issever who was first on the scene. Like @Gaurav bhai mentioned being late is disrespectful to those who make it ahead of time and nobody should be late. Timings are given on every drive thread and without exception should be adhered to by all. After a delay we started with the absolute newbie brief and it was good to see people like @Xaf understand, embrace and able to convey the message to the new people joining in. We started moving right after the brief in heavy fog to the deflation point. We reached safely and started deflation. Luck being on our side the fog had lifted by the time we deflated so after a quick convoy numbering we were off. I love @Srikumar lead as it is very close to the way I handle such drives as well. He started with a few tracks to settle everybody in and later increased to difficulty level to keep everybody engaged. Plus in general the learning curve is much better once people get to a goid start. However we were not without stucks or refusals, and I love @Halit Mert Issever smile every time he was able to clear a refusal. We eventually reached our play area where all the experienced drivers took a shot at side slopping. Once the concept was clear and after a few attempts everybody enjoyed that little play time. This got us hungry and led us to a shaded area near the camel farm. As guessed by the kids the little black things might have looked like stones, but we're actually camel dung. We sat around having breakfast, a few stories, but loads of smiles and my day was already made. After pack up the fun was not over and we headed towards the top of Fossil Rocks. This space presented more challenges than usual. However as a team we were able to March on and find ways to defeat the terrain to reach the top. Upon close inspection of the top it was decided we would not go down straight but around the Fossil Rocks. But with me around no is not an option, so I found a way around with Abhay, Roshan, Xaf, Mert, Bony and Shamil all making it down straight. I had to go back up to support Sri, Adil and Atif bhai around the Fossil Rocks. We met at the base of Fossil Rocks to head out to the Adnoc pump to inflate. Everybody managed well and looking forward to many more such drives in the upcoming season. Keep rocking, until next time this is Rahimdad signing off.

I use cruise control on highway only when the traffic is flowing. I wouldn't worry about cruise control failure. If you see all the incidents with cruise control failure it happens only with Emarati Nationals and luckily they haven't given me nationality yet. So no chances of cruise control failing on me.

Good morning, this is very old video taking rounds on social early this year just after the Jimny launch. God knows the authenticity or if it was a paid influencer job. You must have got the ice bucket challenge now in RAK huh. And if in today's world you believe everything you see on screen, then you are saint bro. I don't even believe my own eyes "unless" I see good number of repeat heros as everyone here like/drive sleeper cars and I have been fooled quite so many times by "Pride of the Land", "King of the offroad", "Best 4x4 by far" media and marketing bs and wasted ton of money and time to go home frustrated. It's been close to an year now this new Jimny launched, and I personally have not seen 1 in the UAE desert yet. I have seen 4 - 5 on the road only. Maybe they all are busy with liwa rounds. Hope you know in Jimny engine swap is the most easy and RTA friendly as 4 cyl to 4 cyl, but from 1.2/4L (76-100 hp) to 2.0L (160+ hp) vitara engine that kick ass with enough body-weight ratio to make this dinky literally fly on every dune.

Self-desert driving was amazing fun and much better than sitting and watching someone else drive. Being first time in the desert, it was really exciting. At first, it was a bit scary when driving in the desert, climbing and drifting down the hill...! It’s like swimming in the ocean of sand. Those are the opportunities to explore new things. Special thanks to team Carnity making this belated event happened in an organized way and the team members were very humble and cooperative. Thanks to Mr. Rahmimdad @Rahmimdad and Mr. Srikumar @Srikumar for instant response to clear a refusal couple of times, and for guiding important tips of self-recovery. Then we headed towards one of the region’s most striking areas of outstanding natural beauty known as “Fossil Rock”. Hiking to the top of Fossil Rock was amazing and truly a spectacular experience to watch the surrounding dunes. But the biggest challenge was to pass your SUV through the unforgivable Terrain, so some of us took the alternate way to reach the exit by leaving this challenge for some other level.. Great job by team carnity for bringing everyone safe and with a smile.

I am a regular user of cruise control while driving, both for ease and felt it seemed more fuel efficient.I engage it at any opportunity where the speed is over 60 KM/HR and traffic is flowing. I do however keep coming across failed cruise control instances on the roads. In fact, I came across the following advice in Gulf News after the last incident locally: https://gulfnews.com/uae/what-to-do-if-your-cars-cruise-control-fails-1.2275388 I wonder what is your view about this. Do many people use cruise control?

Couple of years ago I read a report in which they mentioned that the reason for that particular incident of cruise control failure was unauthorized modification done by the owner of the car from unauthorized worshop. I'm not aware as what modification was done on it which caused CC to malfunction.

Well you don't believe anything other than your Pajero can do anything so that's a moot point.lol Once you said a patrol can't do anything then even a turbo Cayenne was also useless had to post videos of both. One with me on the wheel. Anyways It's a fun little car which also happens to be a proper body on ladder frame chassis with a low range box. Weighing in slightly over a 1000kgs it's little 1.5 is good enough to have a whizz around the local sandboxes. Once again not everyone wants to enter pissing contests of climbing x dune from y side. Having a playful romp in the desert as shown in the video is good enough. And all that for cheaper than a Corolla

I've seen Jimny's roaming around Badayer and Sweihan a few times now, had 2-3 in my convoys at times too. They are an incredible machine BUT only after you put a bit of investment into them. Putting the 2.0 Vitara engine is a little expensive but many opt for the 1.6 liter engine swap which is easy to do and costs only 4-5K. I think @Gaurav has a point here in that the vehicle in the video does not look stock by its performance. However @desertdude the Jim is an awesome car if you're willing to put 10-15k into it to make it take on the world. Oh, and after you modify it... It will climb Moreeb with ease Cheers, Jas

Nope it doesn't brake, it just make loud beep beep beep just like reverse camera does, just beep system to alert the collision.

It's like ABS and traction control both work of the same sensors

Not sure my Range had anti collision with DCC but one feature I use to love was shouting a loud beep if I drive too close to anyone or have distracted attention for a split second and front car brakes. That's an awesome feature.

Fog or such natural causes are only exception for delayed drive start, otherwise we should always start and finish on time. Waiting for one or few is disrespectful to all others time who were punctual.

I'll tag along next time then for sure, now that I know there won't be a problem joining any of the drivers.

I don't think I would mind. I usually keep a good distance anyways if on proper highway i.e not roads like shk Zayed or Al Khail. But then again I don't even use regular cruise control. But the bigger advantage of DCC is it also doubles as a anti collision safety device on most vehicles Even when not ON it's still constantly working and if it detects collision is imminent it will go into action. Or rather the anti collision system doubles as DCC

Try driving adaptive cruise to cruise down the highway here, you will know the stupidity of designer and also impulsive road user here. Both are at extreme. Fred, your car also had a 100 meter braking distance or is it Range only....?

Cruise control is meant only highway driving hence the name cruise control i.e cruising down the highway.

Due to heavy fog drive will be slightly delayed. Drive safe

I tried this system a few days back on the autobahn in Germany with an Audi A40 rental and it worked great. Here in the UAE with stupid lane swerving knobheads i can imagine it’s almost impossible to use.

There are 9 people coming I am pretty sure they all have place for at least 1 person and some are driving alone so they have place for 6 more person's in their cars . Anyone will be more than happy to accommodate 1 person so they can help to navigate...

It already has arrived back when first ls 430 hit the roads...but usually the front collision cars don't have them fixed so a running one is pretty rare... but I have used that function in a 2000 s500 was pretty scary I had set the distance very near and was playing with the stick to increase the speed had almost hit it to 140 and as the car in front of me moved in the roundabout the merc tried to gain that high speed and in the right moment and someone's kind blessings made me hit the breaks or else might have crossed through the roundabout straight... This could be very comfortable option for open roads but shouldn't be used in city driving...

I use cruise control pretty much all the time, it's less stressful for following speed limits and error free to not to get speeding ticket.

Well wait for a while and it will become standards after a few years. Just like before only cars like Merc had ABS then Airbags, traction control and then it slowly seeped down into Japanese ecoboxes If you want to see what options your jap crap will have in the next 10-15 years look at whats available 8n a S class Merc today for sedans and Range Rovers for SUVs

You can always join as a passenger and post request here, Im sure someone will be happy to have you onboard and you can learn a lot as a passenger in early days. Im going for Sweihan with Emmanuel, if you like to join that let me know.

I’d have loved to join (despite the early start 😁) but as you all know I’m still on the hunt for a car. Hopefully it’ll be resolved within the next 2 weeks, inshala! Meanwhile, have lots of fun tomorrow!

There are instance like that but I am sure that can be totally avoided if the person is calm and aware of his surroundings

You will get a fine of 100 might change now...and if in accident then insurance will not cover the other party claims...get a manual license you can drive any transmission paddle automatic steptronic teptronic even mind control shifters like Rav...
