I'm back in town after a little break and wish to join this Friday drive as a passenger as my car is down. I’ll help as much as I can and try to be quiet.

Having sand in moving parts, ie suspension, drive shafts, brakes etc is never a good thing. It’s always better to wash it off when possible. There are some cool little 12v pressure washers available in dragon mart that hook up to the car battery. They are never going to put up as much pressure as a 240v machine but it’s better than a hose pipe and good enough to wash sand off things. They use surprisingly little water too. A 20 litre bucket is usually enough to wash a car.

I have read some posts on engine wash and car body wash but wanted to confirm if a complete body wash is required very frequently during the weekly off-road season. I already have regular vehicle top-body cleaning but is it necessary to have the under-body washed too and how frequently? Basically, I am trying to reduce costs and water waste but at the same time don’t want to end up with more wear and tear due to delayed cleaning.

Like I said, we will put what you have learnt to good practice this weekend

@Gaurav last week Shamil made me and Xavier shovel an entire dune as he was stuck right down the middle. Since we were only 3 cars and the angle was not the best, we shoveled a lot to make the recovery easy. @Shamil, the last portion of qudra is a mini version of Faqa. So it might just be your lucky day to return the favor in kind. 😁

If it’s helps your green thoughts; the car wash has a recycling system so it can reuse of a lot of it’s water. I don’t get the body wash after every off-road drive. Just once in a while.

WOW, this is the new future that will make everyone's life easy and accessible.

There is no need for under body cleaning after every week desert drive, unless you step on muddy puddles. Driving in sand actually clean lot of area under your car with regular sand blasting automatically, unless otherwise your car has oil leak as desertdude mentioned. Secondly even if sand went in small places like suspensions, then when you hit the highway speed at 120 it will fly away. Of course not on leaf spring setup like in Xterra. I do under body wash once in 6 months just to make sure everything is clean and to spot any oil leak etc.

Desert sand is fine and it just falls off like water. Unless you have a oil leak somewhere or sprayed something like wd40 on something then you get a nice coating of fine sand.

I get the car washed once a week, generally the day after the desert drive and for the rest of the week, get a good duster and dust the car everyday. More washes means more swirl marks on the car.

I already drive at 8 psi and I don't use beadlocks, but I use thick wall tyres that can withstand that low pressure. I can even go lower but it would not be much of a difference.

Although you can reach in a sedan car, but getting closer to the water or reaching to tall rocks or crossing the rocky terrain 4WD is better. I visited Shuwaihat Island on the last national day weekend and this place was very crowded with hundreds of cars. Shuweihat Island scenery is so beautiful that you can spend hours doing nothing and enjoying the nature if you plan to visit during good weather. You can enjoy the rocky formation and clear water shoreline is amazing, of course with sandals as the beach is mixed with sand and rocks. If you plan to stay here for long, you should carry enough water and food as there is no grocery or cafeteria nearby. You can fill up the petrol in the last Adnoc Fuel station at Qareen Al Aish and pack up the food supplies as this Adnoc gas station is big enough to have a convinient store, ATM, restaurant and toilets. Yea true story. This was the dune I got stuck on and I stood there with a whip and slave drove @Srikumar and Javier until they shoveled down this “entire dune” until the car came down to ground level.

Rahim Bhai, You can turbo your Pathy no problems but you'd just want to make sure the engine internals are in good to very good condition. I'm sure you're looking for maybe 8-10PSI of boost, with a small turbo which will spool up quicker (around 3000 RPM ++) at 8-10PSI expect around 30-40HP crank extra. They way these kits are designed is so that before passing you just get it removed, put the OEM intake manifold and then back after passed (1-2 hour job). Realistically your cost will be in the ECU. I'm not sure how advanced a Pathy's ECU is but you'd be looking at a Piggyback ECU minimum with tuning and that can set you back around 2-3K. Totally you can get a reliable turbo kit for 10-12K AED with the Tuning done from a decent garage. Keep in mind you'll have to do some other minor upgrades too such as a Water Methanol kit (600-700 DHS) to keep the engine from knocking during the summer months as well as some better heat management with header wraps etc to keep the Exhaust Gas Temps down (EGT's) If you really want to see some performance out of the car I'd recommend you spend the same 10-12K and get a 350Z stroker kit done (4L) along with an engine rebuild and Head Porting. Here you'll see close to 60-70HP gains without changing much else. Along with the fact that everything is within the engine so RTA will not be able to see anything. 2 advantages; 1. You're still naturally aspirated so power is added from 1K rpm, till your Watatata limiter. 2. Much more reliable and you basically have a new engine. I am in love with the Yokohama Geolanders, I was a huge fan of Nitto Duragrapllers before this. I am currently running the 275/70R16. I had some rubbing issues initially, but eventually all the rubber and plastic parts around just got destroyed and now I am enjoying without any rubbing issues.

I think driving at 8psi will be the maximum for good on both sides car and tyres. at EOD its ur call. 😉

The weight of wheels have an impact on the unsprung weight and the rotational weight of the car. The performance and handling are direct influenced by changing the weight of the wheels. The lower the weight of the components the less energy is required to decelerate and accelerate (more delta power available). Google for more info on this topic. Another thing, if you consider to change your offset in the future and you want to do this with spacers (another discussion point if you want to do this with spacers instead of getting the correct offset), it is recommend to do this with non steel wheels.

Come to offroad drives @Barry only if our dear friend @Srikumar can think of a name for his photography club to be formed in Carnity since few light years. May be we can help him here for name suggestion that can combine offroad+photography, so that aspiring photographer with camera's can have an hour or two break or late exit for pursuing this night photography, nature, stunts, portraits, selfies etc.
