I asked myself this question too when I was going to buy my jack, the scissor jack is useless but the problem with the electric jack is that when fully extended is very unstable and not to mention that all the sand will eventually mess up with the electronics inside. Sometimes is better to go old school.

Thank you all for your valuable feedback. I'll get myself the good old manual hydraulic jack then. As most you have very rightly pointed out - electric and sand is a bad mix and I didn't think about that.

My concern is being Chinese cannot be reliable, it might work for 10 years or might cough up on the very first recovery. Plus I saw it in person and it is very high which means in desert you need to dig deeper. Another point is its very heavy. Plus I'm more comfortable with anything mechanical than electric. One last thing if sand enters the electric system it might get stuck.

You people need to stop thinking like broke ass ******* Like I said if was loaded up to my eyeballs I wouldn't mind. And if I was loaded up to my eyeballs I'd already have all the toys I would want So going to space would surely be worth it. At least when you are imagining things. Think big, doesn't cost a dime!

Coils and sensors (electrical stuff) are always better OEM or aftermarket (if pressed for pricing). Reason is electrical scrap part get bad by mishandling very fast (by dirt, water, moisture etc) and there is no easy way to check before buying. You might get lucky once in a while, but 90% you are shooting in the dark. Again if its low price, worth a try to test your luck. I got my Trail blazer headlight SSD relay from scrap for 50 dhs, because liberty need 30 days for ordering and priced at 350 dhs and my wife cannot drive car with one headlight off. Thank fully its still working fine after a year and half, so electrical scrap depends on your stars positioning tbh. If I have a chance to buy OEM, ill stick to that as my first choice. I changed my Pajero coil 6 years back and they burned a 1000+ dhs hole but thankfully they havent failed as it was OEM. Another point is if you are using scrap electrical parts for any reason, then try to see if that part is already in the scrap car or component then chances are its safe to try to great extent. If its kept on shelf, boxes or floor then its worth nothing.

Okay... $250,000 is AED900,000. I'll just go buy BJ Baldwin's Trophy Truck for that amount. Every now and then when I feel like leaving planet earth I'll jump it multiple meters off the ground at 150KPH

I remember Virgin Galactic started similar program about 12 years back. But after taking first 4 passengers they had to stop operation, not sure why. Number 4 was an Iranian lady which set some kind of a record. Number 7 was the owner of Omniyat Properties Mr Mehdi Amjed who never got his chance. With my recent visit at NASA in Florida since they did not have a launch pad, they were using services from Russia and pay USD 80 million per seat. USD 250000 seems a bit low. But for me this is a bit of a hoax as even normal carriers fly within inner space. Outter space is not much different, maybe just bragging rights.

Electric and recovery cannot go in same sentence. Small fuse, wire, switch, short circuit can impair your recovery process. I rem when my winch controller switch failed in one of extreme recovery and we spend next 4-5 hours joining ropes, and finding suitable angle to tug.

I agree with @Srikumar and the question is also : does it really worth the price ? I mean it doesn’t make a big difference in terms of physical effort, as the most tiring part of a pop out recovery is to clear the sand around the wheel...

One of the main reasons that we don't suggest a bottle Jack or a scissor jack is that in the uneven surface of desert the jack might fail. They are fine in a flat surface but not in the desert. Not sure about the electric part though. Are they reliable?

I say it's still worth it with the HUGE price difference. Ironically my range Rover just started to cough as well. A quick scan showed cyl no 5 was misbehaving. Having a spare part shop in the trunk of your car helps. So I dug through and found a good-looking coil I had taken off my free Range Rover donor vehicle before I scrapped it. Two 10mm bolts later the replacement coil was in place and car purring like a kitten once again. Infact taking of the blasted plastic decoration engine covers was a bigger hassle than changing the coil itself. I have no where to store them otherwise I wouldn't have put them back

This is exactly how offroader mind works. I was thinking same of telling desertdude that in 250K USD imagine how many Range (for road, as he love it) and other capable offroaders you can buy........? After little bit of offroad experience, I like to split eggs in different basket so I can have a backup of backup even.

I had an electric bottle jack ( got it for free )similar to the one in the pic. Unfortunately I never got to test it. On flat tarmac and at full extension it would not even reach my lifted Discovery.

Hey if I was loaded I would easily dish out $250,000 for a 90 minute space flight.

Not really a fan of those things for the following reasons: 1) Haven’t seen them in floorjack model, which is the only model that works on unstable ground. The first model you displayed is a bottle jack model, which might sometimes work, but maybe only in 40% of the cases. 2) They are rather fast, and that’s wat you don’t want during lifting a 4x4. You want to be able to slowly position it in place, and then gently lift up the car. The hydraulic floor jack is much better for that. Like Emmanuel pointed out, shoveling is far more intensive than lifting a car. Maybe consider buying an electric shovel ? 😂😉

90 minutes, I’m not sure we can call this « space » flight. Sounds like off-roading on the wasteland next to your door. So yeah... I would say April fool.

I think the whole mars conquest is a waste of time and money. It’s just a competition to see who has the biggest di.. umm.... spaceship? There might be frozen water on the poles of mars but the soil is barren and the atmosphere isn’t breathable. Anyone who goes there and tries to colonise it will end up living in a plastic bubble and they can’t go outside unless they have a goldfish bubble on their head. It’s like the moon landings. It’s a competition to get there first and try to make a foreign country spend their defence budget before you spend all of yours. Better just to move to the desert. At least you can breathe the air.

So all the space lovers here do watch MARS both seasons on netflix and you will love it. I'm almost at the end now and it shares hell of a things what an average Joe cant think about mars, distance, time, challenges and big disasters. Sadly in end its turning out that space exploration is never been a scientific discovery but purely a business. Same way humans exploited earth, now they are in need of another planet to exploit. Overall it's an interesting watch with little bit of drama and lot of thrill.

Then you just have to tell them that some fat moves up to the face for them to change their mind😀. Also there are some who wouldn't mind a one way ticket to the moon for their wives🤣.

Hi, Since I have been assisting newbies with recoveries in the off road drives off late, I realized its time I got myself a jack besides the stock jack that comes in my car. @Srikumar has also pointed out that its better if I get a good jack to help out with recoveries. I have noticed all the seniors use the standard hydraulic jack which is very convenient and gets the job done all the time. However, when I was looking around, i did come across a few electrical options and I was wondering how these would fare against the classic hydraulic jack that we all use. Two models in particular have caught my eye (ill include the picture and description below) but if any of you could share your experiences with me on this, that would be great as I am not sure if these newer electric options will stand the test of time, as in, will they last or would they stop working over a period of time. 1) The first is an - Automotive Electric Hydraulic Floor Jack 12V DC 3T with Electric Impact Wrench 4 in 1 Electric Car Jack Tool Kit with LED lamp I have seen a bunch of video ads for these and they seem fairly simple to setup. 2) And the next is an electric scissor jack The price for both of these are a bit higher than the standard hydraulic jack but then again, they provide a convenience of lifting the car with a lot more ease. They both come with cigarette lighter wires and crocodile clips to connect to the battery. If anyone has had any experience with these jacks or even other types of jacks, your feedback would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
