  1. Ask the garage where your old cat is. Some of them sell for up to 1,000 dhs for scrap because of the platinum and palladium inside. I would be looking for my money back. They do suppress noise and they do stop flames from shooting out your exhaust. If you want to remove a cat and go straight pipe you need to be aware of the type of O2 monitoring system on your car. If you only have an upstream sensor, you can remove it safely. If you have upstream and downstream sensors, it will throw the engine light and the fuelling will be off unless you delete the downstream sensor from the map on the ECU.

  2. Thanks for your kind welcoming. I am bringing a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2014 2 doors. It’s lifted and modified. I have experience in Chilean desert but want to start in the club from the beginning. Since I think there are always things to learn.

  3. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. 5. Leading a desert drive is the most amazing experience to have, where you can combine the fun, freedom, creativity, strategic thinking and survival skills all at once. Leaders lead is the drive where all participant of that drive will lead for a certain period of time. Backed with the right techniques, experience and supervision so that you can learn the art of leading with a peace of mind without any fear or pressure. Due to the basic experience required to read the sand and have basic navigational sense, this drive is only suited to the Advance level off-roaders. You will be learning the basics of leading the convoy in the desert in three different steps: Advance sand reading, plan your lead, plan your exits. Use of navigational software for selecting the right course of path. How to systematically scale the lead for all the cars in the convoy. Level: Advance and Above When: 11 Sep 2020, Friday Meeting time: 4:00 PM, (Sharp, without any exceptions) Meeting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/PLc9YuWMhqKWShaJ9 (Mahafiz Tree Shade) Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. 6. Hi @Lisa Pemberton welcome aboard ! I use one very large hold-all for everything. The compressor sits at one side, Recovery ropes and shackles in the middle , I put the tools in a small backpack , the jack and wrench in another , which sit on the right hand side and small pieces deflators etc are in the hold-all pockets. The shovel sits on top of it all with the handles of the hold-all keeping it in place and then I then use one of those nets hooked down really tightly to secure the hold-all

  9. Dear Desertnauts. Sorry for keeping you waiting a little longer for the drive's preview. This information will be very important for you to align yourselves with the spirit of this outing. Here are a few important facts to consider while preparing for the day. THIS IS AN EXPLORATION DRIVE - It means we will follow a track that is not well known (although we'll cross several tracks used by local farmers and herders), and will have to be patient with possible re-directions, or overcoming of unforeseen obstacles. The idea is to find a route from the sea to the mountains, even though we will not actually reach the latter with this first drive (that's good news as there should be a follow up to reach our goal). THE TERRAIN IS EXTREMELY DIFFERENT FROM OPEN SAND DUNES - We start the drive virtually on the sea (just off Barracuda Beach Resort in RAK), and will reach the interior, where E311 and E611 almost merge. At the beginning of the drive the vegetation will be extremely rich, thick and green. It will be mostly composed of low bushes and crawling plants, which will cover the sandy ground almost completely. We will be forced to find our way through this low "jungle". These bushes, feeding off the salty water seeping from the shore and rising up close to the ground, will start to recede as we'll proceed inland, to leave room to more sporadic low vegetation, and groups of thorny trees forming small forests. This is when we'll start encountering some sand dunes, getting progressively wider and taller, but always requiring a very technical approach (not the usual "bowls" we are used to finding in Badayer, Pink Rock or Qudra areas). THE SKILLS REQUIRED WILL BE QUITE TECHNICAL - As mentioned above, the uncertainty of the track ahead, and the presence of vegetation for most of the drive, will require that we mentally switch from a higher speed, sharp hedged, smooth sailing Intermediate drive to a slower pace, finesse oriented, controlled mode. We will have to change approach based on each obstacle (or lack of), and will need to use the cars' power for short bursts, when needed, rather than for prolonged climbs or rides. THE AVERAGE SPEED OF THE DRIVE WILL BE SLOW - We expect to cover approximately 40 Km, and should take around 3:30 hours, for an average speed of 10Km/h. The normal speed of an Intermediate drive on open sand is closer to 30 Km/h. So be prepared to proceed at a crawling pace: put on some relaxing music and enjoy ! The idea of this drive, besides looking for new areas to visit, is also to provide a glimpse into, and an opportunity to train, the full set of skills that are required from a complete, all-around, off-roader. This will certainly be a "premiere" drive which will require spirit of adventure and patience at the same time. Something different on the Carnity buffet. @Desert Dweller, @Najeeb Mohammed, @Kalahari, @Chaitanya D, @Rinelle Sanaani, @Pancho, @Febin Frederic welcome to this new menu. @Srikumar and @Wrangeld thank you for bringing your experience to the table. More final information to follow soon. Enjoy your week.

  10. This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and strictly follow these guidelines in order not to jeopardize someone's health, and to ensure we can keep organizing these drives safely. MUST READ AND TOTALLY AGREE: COVID19 Precautions MUST READ AND TOTALLY AGREE: BAN POST Two Way Radio Guidelines Every Offroader brings his own radio, programmed to the frequencies described in below advice topic. We will not share spare radios or program your radio on the drive. If you need assistance in programming the radio, post a topic on the Carnity website with your questions and we will help you out. Make sure your radio is fully charged. It will be your only way of communication while driving. Before buying, please carefully read below advice so you are informed properly on which model / cost / shops... No radio = No drive. It is an essential tool and you should make sure you bring it on every drive and learn/practice how to use it. Drive Details Level: Intermediate and above When: 12 Sep 2020, Saturday Meeting time: 3:30 PM (SHARP - Without any exceptions) Action Plan: IMPORTANT NOTICE - This is an exploration drive, in a little travelled area for off-roaders, on very technical terrain. The pace will be slow, and the skills required will be finesse and control, due to the need to pick the right path through an environment full of vegetation (shrubs first, then trees), with sporadic animal farms, and sets of sand dunes with very little room to maneuver. Differently from the higher speed, bowl swirling rides, we usually do at this level, this drive will test a completely different set of skills. Nonetheless, it will provide a good opportunity to increase your off-roading abilities, making you a more complete desert driver. 20. I Agree . the muffler will reduce the noise by 30% .I am not expert , but I know it when I wanted to make some modification to my sport motorcycle on the pipe system , and when I came to know about RTA regulations I just changed the muffler only but not the catalytic converter. i don’t know for cars how it works , long distance , some times double mufflers !

  21. Pat yourself on the back. I’ve never seen a boat driving in the desert 😜 That mechanic should be sued for removing parts without your knowledge. I’d be going ballistic if someone did that. Is the Sharjah scrapyard an option maybe ? These things are probably mighty expensive. If the sound is your main concern, you can maybe approach a exhaust specialist and see what they recommend. Maybe a small additional muffler can do the trick.

  22. Thanks @Gaurav bai , Carnity and the entire Marshals for the good news and the appreciation. I would say one thing in this moment that if i was not joined in Carnity off-road club i would have never think of driving in desert and a passion in off-roading. Still leaning and need to learn lot of things with all good people and experts in the club. Special thanks to all the marshals 😊

  23. Good morning Desert Fewbies, @Kailas, @Lisa Pemberton, @Tamas Hoffmann, @Islam Soliman, @Jeandre Bezuidenhout, @Mehmet Volga, @luwaimn, @Lorenzo Candelpergher, @Vineeth John Joseph, @Jorge Stepniak Felippe, @Jeepie, (reserve list: @Jun Zamora, @Miguel Ibarbia, @Hennie Schoeman, @Sreejith Sreenivasan) For some of you, this will be our first Fewbie drive together, for some, we already ventured out into the sand before. @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Mehmet Volga had the 'ignominious' pleasure of attending the last Lisali adventure - so have an idea of the potential perils of this area as well as the potential fun, when we get it right. Not many Fewbie drives start in Lisali because there is a treacherous, technical set of dunes that must be crossed before we hit the incredible wide high dunes hidden behind. The rewards, once we pass the technical dunes are the ability to drive all the way from Lisali to the long dunes of Qudra, time and convoy permitting. The landscape is stunning, and unlike so many of the areas we drive at the moment, has little in the way of vegetation, so we can enjoy a fast pace and high sweeping dunes where we can practice slide sloping and criss crossing to our hearts' content all the way to Solar Park and beyond. It is my hope that we can use this drive to practice and hone some dune crossing techniques. We will remind you that straight up and over is still an option as well as looking at ways to practice some criss crossing and ridge riding. Those technical dunes - if we get it right, we are all over them quickly and without too much drama (Lorenzo and Mehmet, I have a new tried and tested route through so do not worry we are going the same way), but I do want to stress that learning how to navigate through technical dunes is an incredibly important skill in 4x4 driving. We will not always have easy tracks and wide dunes in which to play. Which translates to, if we do get stuck, then fine, we will find our way out and you will get valuable lessons on an important skill. As ever, there will be more updates during the week on what to expect and the convoy make up. Finally, a request made on behalf of the 4 people sitting in the waiting list: If you are not coming to the drive, let us know early so that the club members whose fingers or mouse was not as quick as yours, can get a drive. See you soon in the sand.

  31. Congrats @Vanessa8580 ! As we all have seen in the club, reaching this level has very little to do with fast pace driving or climbing Faya (which you have done anyways), but ALL about the community aspect of supporting the entire club which you have done enormously over the last months when the club has grown in this fast pace. The patience and maturity required to help out supporting on Absolute Newbie drives, the positive spirit and smile you bring to every drive, and the role model you are for aspiring Pajero LWB owners that see you effortlessly taking that Big Blue through the dunes have brought this promotion. Now the next challenges await. No doubt you will master them with the same approach !

  33. You can double check the part numbers above on the radiator if it is associated with SMOD ( highly unlikely in GCC GCC xterras). Info courtesy www.thenewx.org , loads of information on this website. Other way to be very sure and have trouble free cooling if more than 150k on the Odo will be to replace radiator as @Barry suggested.
    1 point
  34. Just change the radiator. It's around 1,500-1,600 dhs for a new original plus coolant, labour etc. This is also a good opportunity to upgrade to the lower temperature 370Z thermostat. You may also need to refill the AC gas if the condensor has to be removed to do the job. Its been a while since I done one so I'm not 100% sure about the last part. A bit of surface rust on the differential is nothing to worry about. If you were really worried about the aesthetics, you can scrub it with a wire brush and spray it with some black paint.

  35. I had a bad experience where I dropped my walkie talkie and could not reach it during the drive. Since then, I always have the walkie around my neck. The cupholders of FJ is rather shallow for the walkie and may topple over during some 'manoeuvre'.
    1 point
  36. SMOD was an issue with US Xterras , not seen with GCC xterras if I am not wrong. Once u change or replace the old radiator basically that issue is sorted. Whatever the case be prepared you will have to do some maintenance ( Oil changes, radiator flush, mounts etc) to make it desert ready... and once ready it's really carefree to drive in desert. That's one of the reasons it is highly recommended as an offroad car in this group. After owning one, I cannot agree more. It's been a really nice one to drive in the sands.
