Why do I look forward to Fridays? It's days like how this Friday is shaping up that were part of the reason I found Carnity to be the environment in which my 4x4 journey is so special. It's down to this - when a drive ends up as an all levels drive and the senior, more experienced drivers, join a drive that is at a level lower than they are 'capable' of driving. Capability is one thing, community, is another. Carnity is a combination of the two words and what COVID has done is remove some of the community from our club, because we cannot gather any longer at the end of drives like we used to, nor can we debrief after a drive and get to know one another. So it's great when experienced drivers come along and make a drive all levels - for what ever reason - and share their experience with drivers just starting out their journey in the club. Just being able to follow the tracks of an experienced driver can give such confidence to a beginner or almost beginner. On a long convoy like we have this week it's easy for the first few drivers to follow the lead's tracks, but at the end12, 13 or 14 cars down the line, you're driving through sand soup or a flattened path. The advantage of having more seasoned drivers ahead is that you'll start to see the subtle changes they make to deal with churned sand, the slight alterations that they take from the original line to make the drive easier or the way that they somehow manage to maintain momentum and float above the sand. For the more experienced drivers, it's an opportunity to practice a skill, or simply sit back and relax a bit in the desert. So, let's take the benefit of having all levels in the drive. My convoy positioning will take advantage of this for sure, and let's hope that with all the experience on show we can have a truly fun and exciting drive for everyone. See you soon in the sand.

It's a good question. The problem is simply that even with social distancing, we run the risk on a 15 car convoy of someone saying that we held a gathering and we end up with a DHM5000 individual fine and a DHM50,000 fine for the business. We are allowed to drive in our own cars on sand in the same way as on the road - but in the same way that if we stopped in a public car park and had a meeting we would breach the rules, a socially distanced debrief on the sand would be the same. Believe me, Lakshmi, those of us that joined the club before COVID miss these gatherings a lot and cannot wait to get back to the way we used to be able to get to know each other.

What a day it was, blessed with pleasant weather, heavy downpour, beautiful rainbow really made the day and the drive enjoyable, pleasant and memorable one. I loved ridge riding very much, started of with little under momentum, but looking at @Ale VallecchiI was able to pick up quickly and learnt a lot. I can feel I am improving after every drive and understand my car better, still long way to go!!! What a team work in recovering, very much satisfied and thanks to entire convoy for the patience and making it a wonderful day. Have a nice week ahead, see you all soon on sands again!!!

Update: A powerful industrial strenght compressed air at a car wash helped clean the sand and the distortion was removed. Earlier I was blowing with air from my ARB twin compressor - but it wasn't enough.

Dear Desert Wanderers, this RSVP is now closed. Here below is the convoy order for tomorrow: @varunmehndiratta, @Lawrence_Chehimi, @GauravSoni, @Shaaz Sha, @Dodi Syahdar, this drive is going to be technically demanding, both mentally for the drivers than mechanically for the cars, as it is meant to be a fast pace drive with recurring technically challenging passages. It will require your full and undivided concentration at every step, so make sure you come well rested, fully hydrated, and that you don’t have any reason for being distracted. Also, please consider carefully if you wish to bring passengers along with you. We will be using Carnity Channel 2 (446.03125MHz). See tomorrow morning, ready to go (i.e. already deflated, flagged and briefed) by no later 5:45am (sharp), so make sure you make it to the meeting point at least by 5:30am.

I have a 2020 Lexus LX570, with tow hooks front and back along with a compressor I did course with Srikumar a few weeks ago and have done a few other things

@Vanessa8580 I have a Ford Expedition 2018. I have tow hooks in the back and front and an air compressor. I did attend one off roading course with Galadari but it had very little driving time. I will watch the newbie video.

A Saturday drive as you would wish for😉 The first drive at 5:30, sun was up already, enjoyable temperature to start this drive. Once at the entry point, I realized I have never been at this specific location and was delighted to know that we gonna get to do some exploration along with our lead @Janarthan and our support @Tbone. So there we started with our short but great convoy indeed with some exploration like roughly an hour. But then it turned out to be quite bumpy due to the bushes around, but really quite nice and slightly technical path once you made it on the higher part of the dunes. So @Janarthan decided to take us to the Area53 for some intermediate fun. And there we go we had plenty of fun as Jana lead us through that area. Really well done to him for taking us to most of the ridges that were not crushed the days before🤨. We all definitely had great fun, as we had some exploration time, fun times at @Area53, and undoubtedly great section lead by @Tboneas well. We also managed to drive most of the time and Jana did mention that we covered around 60km ( @Janarthan please correct it if its wrong🙂) which was also nice. Kudos to the team we had on the drive. In the meantime please send a small introduction here below with the following: 1) Which 4x4 are you driving ? 2) Do you have any prior offroading experience ? If so please indicate where and what.. 3) Is your 4x4 equipped with front and rear towpoints ? This is a necessity and they should be in perfect condition. For your first offroad drive it's sufficient to bring a pressure gauge and tire deflator so you can deflate your tires before heading into the sand. If you have more offroad tools please also bring them along. A compressor to inflate your tyres will also be necessary as we are exiting near a petrol station that has no compressor.
