Some RFIs to the @Carnity Organizers: 1. Can you confirm that ALL Team members are required to record the track or just the lead? If all, we need to make sure all drivers are conversant with GPS tools, including the Fewbie Member. 2. Can you qualify what is meant by "tampering with GPS"? What happens if one of the team members fails to record the track, accidentally stops recording or drains the phone battery or has a phone overheating issue? Are all individual team member tracks going to be handed to the Organizers at the end of the drive? 3. Can you confirm that ALL Team members required to drive a circle around the waypoints or just the lead? This is to plan drive execution accordingly. 4. There is a starting point from where 5 waypoints are to be reached in whatever order, if I got it right. I'm not clear about the conclusion of the drive: are we done when we reach the last of the 5 waypoints (regardless which one it is as per our route and regardless of the exit point) or do we have to head back to the starting point or any other designated exit point? @Gaurav, @Frederic, @Srikumar, your kind feedback is appreciated.

What are the rules in the event of a complete mechanical failure of one team member's car? Is the team disqualified? Can that member continue with another team member?

After I fixed a new 2nd hand engine I'm awestruck at the power the VQ 4.0L DE engine produces. Even more amazed all this 1 year the old engine could manage most of the climbs with compression leak and water seepage in 3 cylinders. Man Xterra is invincible. Love the machine and its abilities even in stock condition.

Hi, thank you for the introductory video (watched ). I drive a Patrol Safari. I have moderate 4x4 experience but mostly on snow. On sand I had a few trips, already got stuck, already recovered from it. I'm far from an expert but let's say a bit more than a newbie 😉. On top of the basics I'll have flag and radio. Looking forward to learning more 😊

Well 3 (undisclosed) cars made a recent trip to the neighboring area and all 3 cars are down with something or the other breakdown.

@Eduardo soswill be driving my car which is a 2018 Jeep Wrangler (4 door). I haven’t been on a drive for ages and have only done 2 or 3 in total so although I won’t be driving I will be enjoying the reminder on everything!

Dear @Frederic, Thank you so much for your clarification. This was actually my main concern. I'd checked the spec sheet and found the 7.3 inch clearance. And initially checked the FAQ and it suggested "We highly recommend and encourage everyone to drive their stock vehicle first to assess its capabilities." which encouraged me to go on with this. Probably that was the reason no Sorento mentioned in the list of vehicles. Although I saw SantaFe and CX9 both of similar specs and thought why not. Can you please advise what is best for me to do next? Is modifying my ride a good option or best to patiently wait and invest on a more capable vehicle? So I suppose joining this weekend's ride wouldn't be possible in that case. Will better withdraw so others could join in. Thanks.

Dear @ZULFIKHAR NAIYAR The 8" inch as a minimum requirement we use in the club is measured in the same way as car manufacturers measure and put on their brochures or datasheet. That is being done by measuring the height from the floor up to the lower end of your vehicle's body (see in below image as well). For the Kia Sorrento 2015 model, this is unfortunately only 7,3 inch and this value is even taken without passenger or deflating the tires. This is below our absolute minimum requirement of 8inches and would also mean you would be facing more risk of damaging the underbody, bumpers, and even getting more stuck easily as soon as the tires sink into the sand a tiny bit. The approach angle is also important to look at, and the Sorrento with its 16.8 degrees is really too low, and that would most-probably mean you would be ending up with a damaged front bumper, even on your first offroad drive. I hope you understand our statement. We are open to many 4x4 and AWD vehicles, as long as these minimum requirements are being met. After all, it would not be a pleasant first drive for you if you would be ending up with a damaged vehicle on your very first drive. Let me include a previous post from 2020 we made on this topic:

Great day again to start a lovely weekend. We started right on time and kept a joyful line with stops on big play stations. Rarely used ropes and shovels in a couple of occasions so we had enough time to test our offroading skills, make repeated attempts with trying different methods and tricks and get more familiar with the attitudes of our cars. We tried for better performance by discussing and practicing on timing to push, switching to right gears, keeping right tracks and cheating where required 😎 Excellent lead by @Hisham Masaad ; he took the convoy to all famous bowls and dunes of Mahafiz and we did many practices while getting a great fun on those. Thank you my friend and welcome to the leadersboard! Looking forward to support your upcoming independent drives! Flawless center support by @Paul Zeitoun and sweep by @Pacific ; you saved our day with excellent recoveries and advises so we had our time to enjoy playing. Recovery from the bush; wise move buddies! First time I watched such trimming by using a car and a rope. Experience recorded for the impossible recoveries in the future. Keep it up and enjoy. 👍 * A footnote about our "bush operation"; It was a really smart solution by Paul and Pacific. They recovered the car from a very difficult position without damaging it. Well done! However, when I shared this experience with the Carnity leads and advisors, screams came out! ... dreadful... terrible ... vandals ... how dare you do that ... you killed the environment ... Although we didn't kill any plant, it was still nice for me to hear such harsh criticism as it proves how great people our club has, with full of love and sensitiveness to the environment and nature. In this occasion, I think it is good to underline some points here to keep in our minds during offroading; As you all know, we are doing this hobby right in the lap of the Mother Nature. Thanks to wonderful nature and environment we have in the desert, we treat all our stress and bad feelings we accumulated during the whole week and get full of peace and energy to continue for the next! I think that is the reason many of us are doing this every week. But the desert is not ours; it belongs to animals, plants, rocks, sands, ... living and non-living landlords welcoming us for a couple of hours per week. As known, day by day we are losing wonderful terrains in the dessert due to new facilities occupying the nature for construction, energy, tourism, ... it is becoming more challenging to find good zones as time goes by. Therefore, the environment must have the first priority for our club as it is not possible to feed our passion without it. There is not too many, so we have to preserve the ones we have on hand. I believe that every member in our club has the same emotionality to respect the nature and environment and no one would never ever think of harming any living creature breathing in the desert. In order to do the right, I think we can list a brief guide here to consider for similar recoveries in the future; We should think about touching the plants only if there is no any other option. In our case, it was the last option as tugging or winching the car from the front was not possible in that inclined bowl. So ticked... Our bush was completely dry and dead already. So it was very easy to trim it out. But in the future, there may be some living plants blocking the way out in a similar event. Also, sometimes it may not be possible to know whether it is dead or alive, as the plants stays dry until suitable conditions come, and revive again. For such those, you can apply the same method as Paul and Pacific did, to cluster the branches together with a tugging rope (like hair tying) or gently bend it to one side. By doing so, you can make the plant volume smaller and open the way out without harming it. If tying is not enough to open a way, you can consider to trim some branches with shovels or knives to have more space. Pruning the plant doesn't kill it as its roots are still there and it can shoot forth new branches. In our case, we trimmed the upper part but its roots remained underground, meaning that it could be revived back if not dead completely. So in the future, you should deal with the upper branches of plants but shouldn't harm its roots (... it wouldn't be that much easy to pull a living root out already... also not necessary) I think these above can give a quick guide in your possible dealings with the plants for similar recoveries in the future. Happy to have environmentally sound club members, none of us allow any vandalism to the nature in our drives. As an engineer working in the environmental sector, I exactly know that real vandals are generally wearing suits and managing big companies destroying the environment with legally approved projects. Not easy to fight with, but we have to... See you all on the next!

Driving in HLc will change the power ratio from 70/30 (front/back) to 50/50. Whenever you start moving you should do it gently. 4H or 4HLc will not make any difference at that point. More important would be to find your ideal tyre pressure as that would avoid your car from sinking in. If you have normal road Tyres don’t go lower than 12-13 psi. With off-road tyres you’ll be able to deflate further down to 10psi which will improve flotation. Also avoid stopping abruptly, as that makes the tyres sink in. Try coasting to a stop and dont stop the car on an incline, but at a decline or flat level. There are people who swear by driving in 4HLc and notice improvement. Myself I’m a big fan of the viscous coupling that works extremely well in sending the right amount of power to the right wheels at the right time (4H).
