Dear Desertnauts in preparation for tomorrow's drive, here are the latest info. As for our meeting point, please reach the third roundabout on the road between Qudra's Last Exit and Solar Park's Innovation Center, drive around it, head back toward Qudra, and exit between the guard rails, onto the sand and gravel track below the pylon line. Google Maps needlessly sends you all the way to the Innovation Center and back. From the meeting point, once deflated, we'll reach a place just before the dunes where we'll hold a technical briefing, to go over the basic principles of off-roading, before we start the actual drive. While we'll enter close to Solar Park, we plan to exit at Lisaili. Good to see enthusiasm of desert wanderers for 'catch me if you can' , it is very likely whenever there is long waiting list ,the splitting of convoy is possible. But guys have patience for a day more. Cheers.

Hello @DP1011 Yes, I'm pretty much excited. Toyota Fortuner, VXR, White, 2023 (stock) No, I do not have any prior off-roading experience. But I'm a fast learner 😊 I have purchased 2 shackles and yes it does have tow hooks. Purchased Baofeng UV 5R and the safety flag as well but the size of the male screw of the pole is slightly loose with the suction holder joint. Yes I have watched the Newbie video briefing as well.

So my Carnity friends...I have finally got a 2023 Bronco Wildtrak. Thanks @Gaurav@Looper@Rizwanm2 @Gautam Bank @Hisham Masaad @Frederic @Alexanderrr @Stumpy Flowers @Bravoecho @Krishna R @Pavel Pashkovskiy @Benjamin and all others those who had shared their wisdom and tips on the card ...ranging from Pajero, Prado, Patrol, Safari. Rubicon and Bronco. Had something to learn from all your experiences / suggestions. Also explored some of the other chats on the car forums. Lots of insights there! Last time i owned a 4WD in Dubai was 22 year back was when i had a 1997 Mitsubishi Pajero (Classic Green). Used to do some desert drives then but after that it has been only family sedans / other cross overs since 2001 ...once i relocated to Singapore. But it is great to be back here in Dubai after 2 decades. The off road landscape and vehicles have changed a lot. And...some really great offroad communities are here now. Last couple of months have been very exciting as i was looking for my off road car with all the advices, research and test drives . The new car prices (and availability) and used car prices (and the evaluations / conditions) have also been humbling revelations. Was also lucky to get some management contracts at Ford that facilitated the final Bronco purchase and delivery. But had nearly finalized and bought 4 other vehicles! Have been the desert in the heat a couple of time now...and driven a (reluctant and worried!) friend's Nissan Patrol V8. Great experience. And..no nothing happened to his V8 Y62 ..though he was biting his nails (more worried about his car than me!!). Ultimately ..as per my learnings here in the Carnity Forum...it is the driver, temperament, skills (and willingness to continuously learn more from all) and the community (for support and encouragements ) and not entirely about vehicles and modifications. Looking forward to seeing some of you soon!

@Asad, @Rob S, and @munkybizness have explained and covered a lot above better than I can explain in words. Well done in expressing and explaining the real concern so well. Well done guys. I can only advise that car insurance companies here are a little flexible OR ignorant of market value. What I mean to say is that basic Range Rover starts from 300k and fully loaded can hike to 750k so insurance companies software auto-data (I think) doesn't list or display 20 trims and specs with their book value and only shows key 4-5 trims. I faced this problem when getting insurance for my Range rover which was Vogue (not regular HSE) and also Supercharged and the insurance company kept sending me the quote for either RR Vogue or RR HSE supercharged and both trim had a much lower value than my car value. When I explained this point to them, they have done some manual adjustments and gave me the insured value that I was looking for. Bottom line, when you buy the car, try to maximize the value of cover with a single insurance company that can work out cheaper, easier and single point to contact in case of any future claim. And make sure that the insurance company does give proper off-road cover and not 20 meters or 50 meters off the tarmac cover (fake off-road cover).

Everybody fears a roll-over. Some members here have experienced one, and seen one too. But they are not as common as you are led to believe. In my 36 off-road drives with Carnity so far, I haven't seen one or even been exposed to a situation which may have potentially become one. I've felt challenged but I've never felt afraid. This is not to say, that it can't happen. The marshals and the center-forwards (depending on where you are in the convoy), will always take the most reasonable line. You are also permitted to not attempt anything that you're not comfortable with. We don't shame anyone around here - because this isn't a race and we're not staging the next production of Mad Max Secondly, in most cases, a roll-over or any slope-side accident is caused when drivers continue to fight against the most powerful of natural forces - gravity. If you learn to read how your car behaves, its weight, its dynamics, how much or how little throttle you need, what the sand is telling you, and ultimately how all of it combined is reacting to the gravitational force, you will master the art of driving your car at the limit - but safely. I regularly drive on track at the Autodrome in addition to the off-road drives. And I have insurance covers to protect me and my passengers first. The vehicle is secondary. As expensive as it may be, it's replaceable. But if a comprehensive cover gives you the peace of mind, do go for it. But think of it just as the name suggests - "cover". Don't let the fear of a roll-over prevent you from taking calculated challenges to push how much better you can be. And don't let the learning of all those drives send your confidence into overdrive that you fight gravity, and risk it all. See you on the sands soon

Do you know your roles and responsibilities while off-roading? Offroad driving is one of the most famous adventure activities in the UAE. But due to the nature of this adventurous motorsport sometimes things do get unpleasant and everyone involved needs to know their roles and responsibilities clearly. Desert worthiness vehicle: While off-roading, every vehicle get pushed to its limit and for this reason, every off-roader needs to maintain, check and fix existing vehicle problems before every drive. Follow your owner's manual schedule maintenance for extreme driving (harsh environment) intervals and not standard road driving intervals. Preventive maintenance will save you much hassle and time in the long run. We are not mechanics - As much as Carnity trip lead and support offer the first level of vehicle assistance when things go wrong, but they are not mechanic and no one should rely on that emergency support to avoid any maintenance. We are not an Insurance provider - In case of an accident, please follow the UAE road accidents procedures and check with your car insurance company about off-road coverage and recovery plan (if any). We are not a desert recovery company - If your vehicle breaks down during the drive, Carnity trip lead and support will try as much as they can to help, but their vehicles aren't tow trucks to recover a dead vehicle or partially working vehicle out of the deep desert. There are professional desert recovery companies like AAA to assist you and take full responsibility for not causing any further damage while recovering a non-moving vehicle from the desert. We will never leave you alone - In case you ever need to leave your vehicle inside the desert to arrange insurance or recovery, then Carnity trip lead and support will drive you down to the nearest tarmac exit. Mechanical Damage / Failure: Every offroader is responsible for his/her own car failure/damage. Especially in the offroad use some minor long-pending issues might amplifies due to the off-road stress and it should not be blamed on anyone other than the owner of the car. If you have any remote doubt that something might fail in the upcoming off-road drive, then please get that fixed first and then join for next week's drive, rather than taking chances and/or increasing the existing damage. It's always a good practice to join a newbie drive first after some crucial repairs or maintenance to test your vehicle again and then join the Fewbie drive and then Intermediate (as per your off-road rank eligibility). Breakdown log reporting: Every trip lead is reporting the vehicle breakdown after the drive. Occasional breakdowns or accidents are totally acceptable, but repeat breakdown of the same vehicle will not be appreciated. Please look into repeat vehicle breakdown seriously before it becomes a concern for everyone. Two cars involved in an offroad accident: Please decide on the spot, whose fault it is, and report to the neighboring police station for appropriate green and red paper for repairs. Most insurance companies don't cover offroad damage so please make sure if you drive expensive 4x4 with comprehensive insurance, please check your offroad cover properly. Take a lot of pictures and videos of the accident site as Police always ask for this and also save the coordinates of the location as sometimes police like to revisit that area to verify the accident. Single car damage in offroad: In case your car flips or rollover or have any impact damage, take a lot of pictures and videos of the incident as Police always ask for this and also save the coordinates of the location. Tow point failure damage: Every offroader is responsible for their own car tow point strength, integrity, and load taking capacity. If your car tow point fails during "ANY" sort of recovery and damages the other offroader car, then you will be liable for all the damages including the car, driver, and passenger bodily injuries. To avoid such a situation always recover gently and gradually increase the intensity of the tug. If you still suspect that a lot harder tug is needed use the support strap, dampers, or sandbag to secure both ends of the tow rope. Damage while recovering: As much as every trip lead and support are trained to prevent the damage while recovering any vehicle, but the ultimate responsibility of any damage while recovering lies with the owner of the stuck car. Scenario 1: In some cases when your car nosedive in the sand pocket, the front bumper damage is already done, but it becomes visible when your car gets fully recovered out of the pocket. Scenario 2: While recovering a stuck car by a tug, if the stuck car doesn’t stop early enough after the recovery and hit the recovering car, then the stuck car owner is at fault and liable for all damages involved. Lubes / Spare Sharing: Many offroaders do carry a lot of spare fluids, oil, coolant, and other spare parts for emergency situations. If your car breaks down and someone offers you their spares or lubes, have the courtesy to pay or replace that in the next drive. Offroad Gear: Every offroader is 100% responsible for his/her own off-road gear, tools, and equipment and should know how to use them safely and how to take care of them in terms of regular maintenance (if any). If you lend your tow rope to someone, it's your responsibility to make sure that it doesn't have a knot. If you lend your jack, either stay around to see if it's placed on flat ground to not bend or brief them properly. If you lend your toolbox or tools, you need to make sure it's used as intended and they don't break. If you winch someone, you should know your winch capacity to do the recovery safely. If you lend your compressor, make sure it's not overheating or wait for it to cool down. Shovel, flag, radio, etc. is also your own responsibility & share it at your own risk. Off-road Promotions: As per Carnity Off-road Structure every off-roader has been assigned an off-road rank based on your driving skills, vehicle capability, and overall attitude towards off-roading. These promotions, ranks, and structures are in place to make sure that everyone is completely safe including you and your vehicle during all off-road drives. Due to safety reasons, there is zero-tolerance while promoting offroaders in Carnity off-road club. Once anyone applies for the off-road promotion, the request goes to all trip lead with who you have driven to access your off-road progress. Mostly all promotion requests are accepted immediately. For some, we request them to do a couple of more drives with the feedback in which you need to improve. Please accept and respect this club policy to help us maintain a safer off-road experience for everyone. Emergency details for all off-roaders: Please fill up all Emergency details here and also take a print out to keep the same in your glove box. It is mandatory for all off-roaders driving with Carnity Off-road Club.

I have been using several car insurance in Dubai, since 2002 and based on my personal experience I found that RSA and AXA are one of the best car insurance that you can get in UAE. Lately RSA started offering highly competitive rates without compromising on their standards, so I highly recommend RSA. Here are the few things that I completely love about RSA Car Insurance: No headache roadside assistance without any Emirates clause or limitation. Offroad cover comes by default for all 4x4. Offroad cover does cover dunes and desert than road side loose gravel - 50 meter clause. Oman coverage also comes by default or on request without impacting the premium (at least in my case). Get a very good no-claim discount, that I don't find any other car insurance cheaper than RSA. Claim department works perfect - as I had one claim when someone hit my car. Repair job was of perfect quality - done by Eurogulf - good garage - bit time consuming though. Last but not least, once you cancel the insurance they refund remaining months without any drama. This time, RSA car insurance have exceeded my expectations for refund by far. When I sold my car recently I forgot to take the registration card copy. Tried to reach the new buyer since 4 days but he is not responding or willing to send me the new registration copy for some odd reasons. I explain the same to RSA and they send me a refund form and process the refund within 1 business day. Now, that's what I call an awesome customer service while taking money and while giving back money. Keep it up RSA, you guys are rock star.

Nothing is nonsense here at Carnity @Jayakrishnan. People like you, Emmanuel, Frederic who ask a lot of questions help many other users in clarifying their doubts without even asking. Insurance is more or less the same as the road coverage: the Third party will not cover your car and Comprehensive will most likely cover your car for any offroad damages. Yes, you do need a police report for any damage done in offroad so that insurance can open a claim. If it's a collision it's a straight case of red and green paper like on road. If it's accidental damage hitting the dune, trees etc. then police report will come with a fine amount of 400 dhs (I guess) as it's your fault and the insurance will take care of the damages within the stipulated excess amount you have as per your policy. Most insurance companies don't cover offroad damage, and others like RSA, AXA and Oman do cover offroad damage and one needs to read their offroad coverage clause carefully as some mention 5 meters away from the road and others have no distance limitation. If you behave well and follow all the rules and convoy discipline chances are you will never damage your car. Almost all the accidents I have seen are caused by drivers who either think they can venture by themselves or just like to try some more adventure by breaking the convoy. In my last 12 years of offroad, I have accidentally damaged my car twice - first was in 2006, when I was learning and broke the convoy to go little left and right and ended up on nose dive. The second was in 2017 when dune ended with a sharp drop and soft sand resulting in nose dive again because I was too fast in technical dunes (my mistake).
