  3. As most of you must have noticed I had been away for a while. Guess what I am back. I had the honor of joining and driving with the best last Thursday night on a somewhat challenging terrain which was well managed by all, and now I am itching for some more. So this time keeping in the zone of re-discovering some challenging terrain, I am launching this drive as an exploration of an area I have not explored properly, just been in and out of this area. Sometimes when heading towards Jabal Jais through the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road E311 I have noticed some lip smacking dunes and I was briefly in and it has left me wanting to explore this area further. As it is evident that I am not fully aware of this terrain although all are invited to sign up for the drive, but only the first 10 cars which have the kind of experience to handle such a drive as per my experience will be selected for the drive, no more than 10 cars will be selected. leaving Gaurav Bhai and myself out of the equation there are 8 spots available out of which I would prefer at least 1 more experienced driver to control the convoy in this new terrain. If interested please sign up for this opportunity to explore and keep your eyes glued to the forum to check if you are the selected one. Thursday night drive: Date: 03 August, 2017 Meeting point : Tasjeel Village Sharjah on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road E311 (https://goo.gl/maps/Pc92zQvf5hS2) Meeting time : 23:00 PM Plan: Lets drive from the petrol station through E311 till we find an suitable entry spot, deflate and explore the area which seems to be full of exciting dunes and challenges.. Basic recovery equipment such as 2 way radio, flag and air compressor are very important and carry lots of water and some snacks to share on the trip. Absolute compulsory to bring your stories, sense of humor and willingness to learn and follow instructions during the drive.

  4. Very good thread created @waqaszohair for discussing WRONG moves in off-road. Brilliant thinking to share the mistakes and wrong doing to have a safer off-road fun. For above video my 2 cents are below: Shouldn't have cause wheel spin to climb up from side and mid way. Shouldn't have reverse sideways downhill. Go straight down. Go very slow in LO first gear and deflate to 25 for better grip. For rocks tipping the balance is unforgiving unlike in sand.

  8. The nose-dive damage while off-roading is too familiar with the people frequenting with the off-road drives. I myself have experienced it once if you see the large voids in the front face especially in the lower area like in the first image below. It basically means you are a sitting duck if you hit something hard or a crest. It will break or push in the area that gets hit as in normal physics to absorb the force. Now to protect that area from nose dive hit, smart thing to do is installing a skid / bash plate. Which will not only try to level the area you are gonna cross but also dissipate the force intended to hit vital organs of your car. So now you will be thinking which metal to choose for bash plate? Well you can go with iron plates or steel plates if they are strong enough and of certain thickness plus they are cheap but it will add the extra weight, which is very important thing for off road as lighter car use less force to do the same work. You can use duralumin or titanium if your pocket allows they are sturdy and really strong with a fraction of weight associated with iron and steel plate. Lastly you can use aluminum if it has the right thickness and it will not be so heavy on weight and is not so expensive for the pocket. Here in the following picture if you observe I have used aluminum sheet with a thickness of 4mm. We couldn't bend it by hammering it so we took it to a press so that we can attain the desirable curves but the finished product is of utmost quality and appearance. It's durability will be tested in the continuing journeys of the carnity off-road drives and I'll keep you posted of it's off-road progress.

  9. I was browsing the YouTube for off-road videos and came across the following. It occurred to me that the driver is doing something WRONG. So why not use the carnity.com experts to comment on what was wrong in the approach, skill or the vehicle that made it " DOING IT WRONG". I am hoping this thread to be not just limited to this video but as an opportunity we can share at least a video a week to have feedback and experience learning from Carnity stars. Let's see.

  21. The reality is he won't reply. He has been exposed and is hiding. The garage has been shown to be incompetent through their massively wild, incorrect and expensive diagnosis. They have also been exposed as cheaters by wanting to fit a part which isn't even applicable to the vehicle, the throttle body servo.

  22. Good job barry in challenging them technically. I am desperately waiting to hear his reply. Btw, I was about to go to them recently but with quick google search with cars clinic review or cars clinic dubai review i stumbled on gaurav fact stating thread and changed my decision. I hope that they should appear in search result with "Salim Ali Bin Haider Garage" or "Salim Ali Bin Haider Garage review" which they are not at the moment.

  23. @Barry, you're not really expecting honest answers, are you? People like this base their business model on ripping off once-off customers, but I do hope all Carnity members see and read your comments on the ridiculous quotation this guy issued for a faulty idle control valve.

  24. @carsclinic you have put yourself in a very unique position here. You have the option to save yourself or hang yourself. Carnity is the largest car community in the Middle East with 13,000 forum users and 107,000 followers on Facebook. That's a possible 120,000 people who will see this, plus more if people decide to share it on their own chosen social media platforms. This could go either way for you. You can either answer the questions imposed by me earlier honestly or you can ignore them. If your computer records are as thorough as you say, them you should have no problem answering. If you ignore them, all that will be left is this evidence online for 120,000 people to see, plus anyone who decides to search for your company on google saying as Carnity is the number one option to come up under a google search of car forum.

  25. +1, Totally agree with you Barry. Btw, I paid 250 dirhams for above irrelevant diagnose with 1 week wait. Whereas ICV costed me 650 dhs and installed in 30 minutes. I heard Dubai government is working on standardizing car workshop to filter incompetent ones from good, capable and competent workshop. I can't wait for that.

  26. @carsclinic why would anyone want to come to your garage when you have no skills when it comes to diagnosing faults in cars? Below is a copy of a quotation you gave to a carnity member. The real issue was a faulty idle control valve, a cheap and easy fix. However, you wanted to change the plug leads, coil packs, air filter, throttle body servo, upper and lower intake manifold gaskets and refurbish the injectors, all at a cost of almost 3,000 dirhams. This would have been wasted money that did nothing to address the actual problem. To anyone who knows anything about how an engine works, this is how someone operates when they can't perform simple diagnosis to find out what the actual problem is. They change every part they think could be faulty and hope the problem goes away. Which in your case, it wouldn't have. How did you know the plug leads were faulty and needed to be changed? Did you check the resistance and test for leakage? How did you test the coil packs? Do you have an oscilloscope in your garage? What was wrong with the throttle body? Or was it just a guess which it obviously seems to be. There is no servo motor on the throttle body of that particular model, it has 2 mechanical cables. Dirty air filter? Or dirty cheater too lazy to blow it out with an airline. I assume you did tested the upper and lower manifold gaskets with a smoke machine to confirm they were actually leaking? Or did you at least spray starting fluid around it and monitor engine speed? Because it's a pretty time consuming job to strip the manifold off. How do you know the injectors needed refurbished? Did you test the spray pattern and flow? Amateurs and scammers like you are what gives the rest of us decent mechanics and technicians a bad name.

  27. I don't know anything about this scheme, would appreciate some more info from @Gaurav At a guess, they might operate some random secret shopper scheme. Cars with known faults are investigated and diagnosed by qualified technicians then sent into workshops to see what they come up with. Pure speculation of course. If they start to close garages with uncertified mechanics, there won't be many garages left in UAE but maybe that's a good thing.
