  1. Dear all, Ramadan Kareem ! Fasting has quite the physical effect on the body, and when combined with the summer heat can lead to dehydration, distracting hunger and low blood sugar, which can affect our reaction speeds, alertness, concentration and sight. In addition to fasting, the unusual and irregular meal timings and sleep patterns can cause fatigue, impatience and distraction. Right before the sun sets, motorists will be rushing home to be with their loved ones for Iftar, meaning those of us on the roads must be wary of other drivers. Eight tips for staying safe on the roads during Ramadan: 1. If you feel tired before driving, try and take a short nap, or use public transport. 2. If you feel sleepy while driving to the point of distraction, pull over immediately and rest. 3. Be more courteous with other road users, and leave plenty of space between yourself and the car in front. 4. Try to avoid the roads before the Iftar rush. If you can’t, be extra wary – some of the road users will be looking to rush home to break their fast. 5. Allow yourself plenty of time before you set out for a journey – being safe is worth being late ! 6. Keep yourself visible – make sure your headlights, tail lights and signal lights all work properly. Turn on your headlights shortly before the sun sets. 7. It should go without saying, but follow the rules of the road – sudden merging or swerving will not only endanger yourself, but other drivers too. 8. Road safety doesn’t just apply to drivers. Pedestrians and cyclists should be wary when using crossings, even if the light is green !

  2. Reversing in the dunes, I trust my own judgement than anything shown on the mirror, screen or sensors. Best is to roll down the window to have a good shoulder view on either side and keep reverse with partial eyes on rearview mirrors or screen. Secondly while reversing in dunes, I pay attention to the car level more, that means if im dipping on left I counter steer on right to stay on flat rather than dropping in some unseen sand pocket or dune. In the night drive in the desert, it's a whole different game. Don't reverse as far as possible, if you have to step out and see first and then decide how many exact meters of the reverse is needed.

  3. AC work. I prefer changing the engine or gearbox over doing any work on AC. It is expensive and it is hard to solve.

  4. Anything that costs money. If something breaks I’m not worried about fixing it but the price of the parts are scary sometimes. Especially when you’re into weird cars like me that a lot of stuff isn’t easily available for.

  13. Very nicely emphasised @MATHEW FELEX, really well done. I like to bit more emphasis on point no: 4 for people who aren't fasting, be MORE patient and considerate to others who are fasting, as they are rushing home or out for breaking the fast, but you can be late by few minutes to reach home. During this Ramadan, I had 2 instances where I have to drive just before Iftar, and after seeing some car reactions. I decided to drive on last lane for being considerate and for my own safety.

Cars will always have give and take relationship with you as it takes you where you want and regardless wants you to take care of it by preventive maintenance...now here lies the problem people don't want to spend but only drive... I have seen people ignoring my advice to Change the break pads but later on come back on a tow truck with a major damaged front end.. Ignoring my advice of changing the radiator but later on coming back with a busted radiator or burned head gasket... Then they say that owning xyz car was expensive because it always had something up. I agree that some cars are lemons but not all cars are same that's why it's always better to research and get second or third opinion before you put your money in a car as it will save you much more hassle in the long run...

  17. Go to Jeep scrap regularly and who knows what you might stumble upon metal bumpers roof rakes performance mods all used but at almost half price but always carry cash with you as it will not be there for long those things go up pretty early...

Try to notice the neck and joint of the clutch if it's leaking then it's time to change the clutch The radiator if choked and serviced will only bring back the problem at a later time it's much better to toss in a new high volume radiator even if the radiator is not choked if you see it's plastic body turning in to a shade of brown or if aluminum fins oxidation then it's high time you get that radiator out of the equation When changing the radiator it's always better to toss the thermostat with it as it too has worn-out (Only recommend for garage) While the car is running touch the upper and lower hose if the thermostat is bad there will be drastic difference in temperature of both pipes And open the radiator cap and notice the water at the cap if it's turning nicely at the cap place then the water pump is working strong Notice the leaks and air in system These steps mentioned above is for professionals only and should be executed by a professional workshop technicians under no circumstances us should be held responsible as these steps could and can inflict life altering harm

  19. I tried a few brands from ENOC - US and German make for a fun and then used dishwashing liquid too. Couldn't find a damn difference and now Im lazy to put anything, unless service guys put it.

  23. Where is the after picture? Did they just fill it with grease and put it back together or did they replace the CV joint? 3 month warranty doesn’t sound good. Sounds like they just filled it with grease to temporarily stop the noise. A set of new CV joints should be good for 10 years so I’d expect a better warranty than 3 months.

  24. Whatever is available in the garage. Be careful with windscreen washer reservoirs. They’re a hot breeding ground for legionnaires disease. It’s always better to use something that will kill the bacteria. If you use just water, try running your finger on the inside of the bottle. That slimy biofilm stuff, it’s worse for you than you could ever imagine.

  25. I used to let anyone drive my stuff until one day 6-7 years ago I was fixing a car for someone, he asked if he could borrow my motorbike that was parked beside the garage. I asked if he could ride a bike and he said yes so I took him it his word and let him ride the bike home. He came back an hour later with the bike. I don’t know what he hit but the front forks were so badly bent that the wheel was scrubbing the frame. I can bet he went over the handlebars and hurt himself pretty bad. So now, if I know you and trust you, sure take whatever, if I don’t know you, I’ll call a taxi for you. Reminds me of something my boss in my first job said to me. He had a brand new Mk4 Golf GTi, the PD150, he said “drive it, but don’t crash it or don’t come back”.

  26. MIne I will say depreciation because no matter how i prepare myself that annual 10-15% for such car, whenever i sell it cost me double that depreciation and break the bank for next car

  27. I will send you a number to text. This guys job is just spending all day scouting the scrapyards looking for parts for garages. Tell him what you want and he’ll keep an eye out. Cheap too. Only charges the price of the part plus 100 dhs. Would cost you more than that in time and petrol to do it yourself.

First of all Thanks to Carnity Family for extended support and Help Final update Last night i went to Workshop around 20:00 hrs and after final diagnose we came to conclusion its the Fan clutch which has gone bad special thanks to @Gaurav Bhai & @desertdude for highlighting it early. As suggested in this forum and by my Mechanic i decided to go ahead and change the complete cooling system Radiator - couldn't find the Dolphin one so went with other brand called Premium - AED 480 Clutch - AED 680 Radiator Hose , Thermostat , Mitsubishi Coolant 2 x 5 lts - AED 140 Mechanic Fee - AED 200 After the work was complete i was the first time in my life i was looking for neck to neck traffic but couldn't find any 😉 So far all seems good and well, will update in this forum for new update

  30. As for your own DIY process, Dishwashing soap works the best. Try it out yourself on a Glass of drinking water to test it out. What ever you use on it and it gives you that clean glass feeling with your eyes closed and makes the squeaky sound. That’s the one you want to have to mix it with the water in the windshield washer tank. When you go to buy the solution of the shelf, usually they are just glass cleaners which are diluted with water and put into bottles for you to pickup, pour and use. And if your cleaning your windshield from inside and it has that oily reflective white Smokey residue which is very Annoying at night. It doesn’t give you a good viewing vision every time a light hits from the opposite direction. This usually is found in car that are of regular smokers, just make sure you use few plys from the kitchen roll instead of newspaper reason being that the ink from the newspaper won’t stick back onto your windshield. Yes the newspaper does the job and you keep cleaning it regularly in a couple of days or once a week. But with the kitchen roll it’s made to absorb the oils and has not ink coming off it. So you tend to have a clean sparkly windshield like those commercial advertisements 😝. AS SHOWN ON TV.

Give it 30 to 90 seconds for oil pump to lubricant the engine and off you go in normal driving if you are going to push it hard as soon as it starts then it's better to wait for the engine to reach operating temperature so you can be throttle happy and enjoy the performance Most turbo cars have a delay timer which leaves the engine running even after ignition switched off and doors locked which will turn off the engine after reaching it's required temperature

  32. Before I switched to dishwasher, then just water I always used Sonnax windscreen washer fluid. Available for 5 DHs at the gas stations. Unlike dishwasher it wasn't too sudsy and didn't leave streak marks.

  34. I think its a wise decision and good preventative maintenance to change it all, don't forget the coolant hoses as well. Keep the ones you have now as spares in the back. Incase you ever burst one, so you have back up to make it till a shop. That's what I do with any part I change, example if I change hoses or sparkplug leads I keep the old ones just in case in need one in a fix, And this has been very useful. I even have a spare radiator for my car. Incase if I pop mine. I have one I can change and drive it to a shop rather than be stuck with an undrivable car at the mercy and expense of recovery trucks..

  35. @Aaqil Sheikh you do need to get you suspensions checked. You need a proper lift and some bumper edges shaved to give you a he'll of a beast off road.

  38. I think Ferrari got it wrong here. Porsche, Bentley, Rolls Royce, they all put their own spin on the SUV and you could tell what it was, but this has all the glory and splendour of a 50 year old aborted fetus preserved in a glass jar.

Also, while taking reverse, behind the car view is not clear & reverse camera is not effective so. especially while taking reverse on dune, due to its typical design, it is not friendly or confident view. Do you have any good suggestion / expert opinion on this too..

  43. To be totally honest I don't remember that incident. And yes Discos torque which starts from very low rpms and pretty much stays level throughout the rpm band makes it a tough offtoader. Even after many years of driving it it would occasionally surprise me. Like a drive in wagan ( anothe one of those private drives ) I was following PR on his quad badger. We had to cross over a big wall of dunes and there was a little dip on top between the peaks so he chose to go through that. He went across and I went after him after completing ty climbing instead of a ridge there was a tiny but deep bowl on top between the dune peaks and I had no choice but to go into it. It's sides were steep and twice or thrice the height of my car. If I bent down I could barely see the edge from the top of my windscreen.and maybe 5 feet space in the back and front. I knew I wasn't getting out of it easily and without help but I sais what's the harm in at least trying once. So I backed up as much as I could in the tight bowl which wasn't much and then just mashed the pedal. AND LO and behold. The thing slowly like a tank on tracks climbed up the wall and over the edge to the other side. I saw the look on PRs face, his jaw firmly on the floor and then realized so was mine! Just couldnt believe what had just happened !!! Ayoubs XJ was next followed by a TJ wrangler needless to say we spent sometime trying to help those cars go through this bowl. So back on topic the most fun I've had was in nom club drives and new to me areas. Like when me Sikander bhai in his TJ and ayoub in his XJ went for a full day exploration drive from marqaub to lisaili. Hitting the small technical dunes first to get to the shade of the trees for some lunch. Then checking out the sandstone formations and then hitting the big dunes to end the drive. Or my first drive to sweihan once again with two XJs. Almost flipped on that one as I got stuck on a very high and very sharp ridge. With the ridge going from the center of the car front to back. Was ridge riding and got bogged down in soft sand. And while trying to reverse it started to tilt dangerously to one side so had to anchor it to one of the XJs on he one side and slowly crawl back. And many such drives. Yup got to agree, 8-10 drives over a span of 2 yrs is nothing.

  45. When I was doing drives. When I wanted to do a serious fast pace drive specially exploring some new area I would go with a few friends, who were good drivers aswell as friends. When I was more in the mood for a chilll relaxed affair with lots of chatting, eating and just loitering I would go for a club drive. On rare occasions when I felt like letting other join in the fun of new areas I would post a drive on the club and let most join, buy never newbie drives. I really don't have the patience for it and full marks to people who do and do them regularly. My last was with RD long before carnity came into existence and it just got my goat. Just sitting there less than 100-150mtrs from the road ti get out and finish the drive and see everyone just getting stuck again and again. I think the convoy cleared that single stretch in like over 2 hrs. That was it for me never went on a newbie drive after that.

  47. For me the high price of parts compared to the actual price in other countries. If somebody worries about the depreciation then they don't really understand car ownership. Cars depreciate and no matter how many mods/upgrades you throw in there you will never get your money back.
