  1. The morning after the first official Carnity Weekday drive, here is a quick report of the trip, for future reference. We set out to explore an area that for most of us was completely unknown: Al Lisaili. I had driven past it many times, while on the way to Faqa, but never knew this region, hidden behind Dubai's major cameldrome and its connected camel farms, would be able to offer such an interesting off-roading ground. We started with @Wrangeld and @Jeepie in second lead, correcting perfectly my at times rougher trajectories, @Desert Dweller managing very smoothly in third, with @Foxtrot Oscar as her navigator, @Xaf piloting the way for an ever improving and fearless @Vanessa8580 and finally @Emmanuel watching expertly over the convoy as sweep. We followed the track under the pylons until we were able to go past a very long and well hidden camel race track, then proceeded to enter a very technical area of dunes with soft sand, through which we finally reached the more open, long range dunes, where the fun begun. We crossed many dunes, and did some ridge riding, on sand which was much firmer than at the beginning. No major problems occurred, other than a very nice self-recovery by Vanessa (after a bit of digging by the gentlemanly Xaf and Emmanuel), who also enjoyed the thrill of a little bit of flying, while crossing a steeper slope. Very few refusals during the whole drive, plus a couple of hard nose bumps with my FJ, while descending seemingly friendly steps, that ended on small but treacherous pockets. We managed to almost reach Solar Park, when a sudden engine oil light on Richard's Jeep prompted us to descend toward the dirt track and the exit point, which by the way allowed us to enjoy a beautiful sunset. All in all, a very relaxing drive, in a very nice patch of Dubai desert, that will surely see our Carnity vehicles again, soon.

  2. Dear Carnity members @Rinelle Sanaani, @asifk, @Jolly Abraham, @Shiju Manuel, @J J, @RohanH, @Vanessa8580, @Najeeb Mohammed, @Chaitanya D, @Anish S, @Tbone, @Janarthan and @Denizzalbayrak. Thanks to all of you for promptly acknowledging the Covid rules. Very well done. Also, for any of you who feels the need to gain more information regarding some of the techniques which, as Fewbies, we'll practice during the drive, please read the chapter Dune Crossing Tutorial and Techniques available on the website. This drive will take place in a relatively technical area, where we will find some play zones, ideal for either climbing or side-sloping, and occasionally some ridges where we will do some crossing. Dunes will be neither too high nor too steep, so this should be possible for all. We will scale the drive up or down in difficulty, according to the convoy's "feeling". Lastly, if any of you thinks he may have to cancel, for whatever reason, please do so by tomorrow at midday, so that we may allow those on the waiting list (currently 2 other members) to join the drive in your place. Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday morning at 5AM sharp. Have a good ending of the week.

  5. I was the wake up caller for my friends when I was in university. I wake up with the first note of alarm. If someone had an exam the next day, usually in Turkey students work hardest on the pre-exam night (To cover up the days of drinking)... They were calling me to set up an alarm clock and wake them up. Some heavy sleepers even were staying at my apartment so that I can use physical force in case of emergency I can do long calls to wake up if someone needs

  6. @asifk I am scared of the early wake up to!! But as we say in Italy "Mornings carry gold in their mouth".....sounds better in the original language, but you get my meaning 😅

  8. Did you check fuel pressure at idle and under load? Also look at AFM gm/s and compare it with factory data or a known good engine. More accurate than just unplugging it and seeing what happens Check exhaust sensor data and look at fuel trims. How is the general condition and wear in the engine? Are you getting any blow by? Pull the dipstick and see if you can feel any air pulsing. If you can’t get a mechanic to sort it, bring it by and I’ll have a look.

  9. Shoot that Mechanic.... I've heard the same excuse from incompetent mechanics so many times before. If they can't find it they just start throwing excuses around. There are many possible reason for sluggish behavior. Did you try with another MAF sensor, or just unplugging it to see if there is any difference ? It will throw a Check Engine Light when you unplug it, but should reset itself when you put it back. I do not believe his story about the transmission. You should try to find a guy who is willing to spend a day going through all possibilities. 0-100 in 23 seconds is indeed an issue. In my particular case of sluggish engine, it was the timing that was slightly off, which resulted in good mileage but horrible performance. Since i got that sorted the car has been fine and plenty powerful for a little 3.0 Other things that rob power is the AC or clutch fan if it's fully engaged, the CAT that might be blocked, faulty sensor throwing wrong data to the ECU, clogged injectors, faulty spark wires or coil pack....

  11. With the tremendous increase in the number of COVID cases in the UAE, we all have to be responsible while off-roading. Failing to abide by any single precaution at any time during the drive, will result in an immediate ban from Carnity Off-road Club. ZERO TOLERANCE First offender - 1 Month Ban. Second offender - 3 Month Ban. Third offender - lifetime ban and report to authorities. COVID19 PRECAUTIONS 2.0 All Carnity off-road drives will be LIMITED to driving only: No Socializing and gathering allowed at any time. No break for taking photos, breakfast, smoking, etc. No exchanging of off-road or recovery gears. Wear a mask at all times, while outside your vehicle. For passengers restrictions, follow RTA or NCEMA guidelines. All passengers should be inside the car, at all times. Maintain a minimum of 2-meter social distance at all times. Sanitize your hands and recovery gear after use. PS1. If you and your passenger cannot sit inside your vehicle for 3-4 hours please DO NOT JOIN CARNITY DRIVES. PS2. A Member who has RSVP the drive is RESPONSIBLE and LIABLE for their passenger's compliance. PS3. The above precautions apply to everyone irrespective of their vaccination status or schedule. PS4. You can confidentially submit the photo of any offender by sending an email to [email protected]. How to comply Read the drive post before arriving at the meeting point, so that you know your convoy numbering and radio channel. Arrive at the meeting point and switch on your radio to the pre-set frequency of the drive. Stop your vehicle at least 10-20 meters away from each other. Deflate your tires, while wearing a mask, and then go back inside your car. All briefings will be done on the radio now, so pay full attention to a briefing for your own safety. After the briefing, fall in your convoy position just before the drive starts. While driving if you get stuck, announce on the radio and be inside your car at all times. Trip lead and/or support will guide you on the radio for self-recovery or tow-rope recovery. While there is a stuck or a refusal, everyone else supposed to be inside their car at all times. You can only take a bio-break during the drive, by requesting trip lead permission. Once the drive is over exit out to inflate by maintaining 10-20 meters distance from each other. While inflating, only the driver supposed to be out and with the face mask at all times. After the drive, you can talk on the radio for any feedback, suggestions or help you need.

  12. This just the more direct, fast and no tools or faffing about required approach. Two different methods to look for the same result. Because I remember long before diagnostics tools were cheap and only available to dealers. Had a Land Cruiser with the same issue. Everything checked out but car was sluggish. After a long day of looking for the issue decided to call it a day and when switched off the lights of the garage saw a glow coming from under the car. Looked under the car and the exhaust was glowing orange and viola culprit was found. It's just a bolt on ricer ground effect kit, can't you see with the bling wheels it was a mall crawler all it's life. Which is actually good news knowing it was never abused off road. Probably has a big bass bin the back too! Lol!

  13. I'm with Fred, shoot your mechanic. Seems like a case of blocked exhaust to me too. Simple check by hand while reving to see if the exhaust is blowing out enough. At night drive your car around for a good while then park in a dark spot and give it revs and then get under and see if part of the exhaust is glowing red.

  14. @sertac donot think buying a relatively newer used car will sort your issues, because it is still a used one and you will have to get some things sorted. What I have seen with mechanics, as per my limited experience is that they start telling "it's an old car anything can break and not work", when they are not able to pin point to a specific problem.
