When you arrive tomorrow morning, you can start deflating your tires to 15psi if you have normal/highway tires, and 12psi in case you have off-road tires. Please arrive on time 6:30 AM, earlier is even better so we can help you out with deflation if needed. We will be using Carnity Channel 1: 446.00625 Mhz. Seniors on the drive are myself, @Serafino in second lead, @Shamil as center forward and @Abu Muhammad who will be sweeping the convoy and we will all help you out in case of refusals, stucks, which is all part of the game (and fun) After deflating we will do a briefing to emphasize on the aspects of off-roading and the teamwork involved when becoming part of our off-road community. Since the number of cases has gone alarmingly high and as per the new restrictions we will revert back to briefing from our vehicles over the radio.. 3. Nothing to laugh about @Chaitanya D. If you would have seen the recovery in Umm Al Quwain beach I had to because it was a stuck - A real stuck you would have spanked my ass and the gentleman who helped me. It opened my eyes. I had to learn how to drive on sand terrain. I joined @Carnity. Here I'm learning from masters. If I tell you a secret can you believe? Recently told my wife get the belt hole driller as I lost much of my waist size. From 125 kg I dropped down to 118 kg in 2 months. SHOVELLING IS BETTER AND MORE FUN THAN WORKOUTS IN A GYM.

  8. Angela @Foxtrot Oscar, you sneaky thing! Congratulations on your CarPlay system πŸ˜€ Integration is really awesome, and CarPlay rocks! As to Dr. Seidam @Mohamed Seidam, mentioning Android and anything related to it to an iPhone owner/user is blasphemy! Just sayin’ πŸ˜€ @Niki Patel and @Hisham Masaad, I spoke to an shop in Dubai over the phone, and they said the can add more microphones to the FJ for better voice detection/reception. Currently, I only have one microphone installed on the A pillar of my FJ, which came with my CarPlay Pioneer unit. In comparison, newer cars have 8 to 12 microphones installed throughout the cabin 😳 In any event, I’m gonna visit the shop imminently and I’ll let you guys know what transpires πŸ˜€ @Niki Patel, perhaps you can call the guys who did your audio upgrades and ask them as well? This way we’ll have more choices πŸ˜€

  13. @Niki Patel That's a very well thought of analysis I must say. I had struggled with this dilemma when I was on the lookout to replace the stock head unit on my Pajero. My final two choices were Pioneer and Sony and took the plunge with Pioneer. Must say one of the nicest decisions I have made as the unit is solid with all bells and whistles. Compared to what Mitsubishi offers in their showroom or the android units available I would strongly suggest people to stick to known brands as they respond well with both iOS and Android. The sound quality has also improved compared to stock due the built in amplifiers and settings on these units. Key to watch out for those using android is that AndroidAuto is not available in UAE officially so the playstore will not offer it

  17. RSVP LIST FOR TOMORROW @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Vicente Angel Antelm Albel @danebowers @Alfeathec @Lorna Rowsell @Tanya @Miguel Codes @TT_Dubai @Muzurisani @amir amiri Please find your convoy positions for the drive tomorrow listed above. Please be on time (earlier is even better) so we have ample time to help you with tyre deflation. Seniors on the drive are @Tamas Hoffmann and @Foxtrot Oscar who will be helping you out whenever needed. Hopefully we get some refusals and stucks so we have opportunities to learn The plan is to drive about 3 hours and practice dune driving, throttle control, basic sidesloping, and just getting you comfortable for your first time on the sand. We usually finish our drive at the Last Exit petrol station so we can inflate the tyres. Unfortunately the compressor from the petrol station have been out of service lately, so if you have a compressor to inflate your tyres after the drive please bring it along. Alternatively you can drive on the road to the next ENOC that's about 10mins drive away but you'd need to drive slowly and avoid sharp turns. (tyre pressure will be low). Please abide by our COVID10 regulations that we specify in the drive topic. As soon as you are deflated please wait inside the car where we will do the briefing over the radio. Keep social distance at all times and wear a mask whenever you are out of the car. See you tomorrow at 06:30 ! Fred PS if you have not seen the Absolute Newbie briefing video seen yet, please do it as it contains ALL essential info for your first offroad drive. You will find the video in the drive topic.

  20. @Foxtrot Oscar i apologize for the hijack of this thread.... glad i did it at the end once you are all sorted! @Ahab Shamaa @Mohamed Seidam @Rahimdad i am feeling the love .... let me learn from you all and your experiences and drop my fear/anxiety ... what an awesome community this is! on the topic of upgrading head-units.... stay away from these Chinese ones as i have been told that the Microphone is built into the headunit without an option to add an external Mic!! they are also telling me that adding an Amp will not improve the sound quality i may set up a separate thread on this topic to get some more opinions and maybe find a better AV specialist @Ahab Shamaa not feeling it for the company i used for the speakers now!

  25. Nice write up @Niki Patel. Like @Ahab Shamaa and Dr @Mohamed Seidam pointed out, Fewbie forever, good luck. It will come to you naturally. Intermediate drives are not something to be scared off. Just like Fewbie teaches you a few more tricks than Newbie level, similarly Intermediate level comes with its own tips and tricks. Extreme drives recently launched are the high flyers club. It took me 3 years when I started off-roading to gather the courage to go to places like Sweihan and Liwa. But after visiting those places I realized what I has missed out for 3 years due go my fear. The techniques don't change, but the more you challenge yourself in a safe environment, the better you get. With experience comes excellence. I'm sure when the time is right you'll step forward and ask us for your promotion. I've recently driven twice with you and can safely say, you're doing well at Fewbie and I love your control both steering and throttle. I will be waiting for you on the other side to hold your hand and guide you through it.

  31. @Ahab Shamaa will do and look out for feedback from that Audio store on options! @Mohamed Seidam happy to share my experience and setup. I have a stock (from 2021 models onwards) 12.3" non-branded Android powered Head-unit that offers Android Auto (and mirroring for older phones) plus Apple Car Play (this is the only reason @Ahab Shamaa agrees to be a friend) From my research its a Chinese brand called Belsee for the headunit My experience and learning: 1. DO NOT pair with Bluetooth AND a cable . If you are connecting via a cable for Android Auto / Apple Car Play delete your Bluetooth connection to the headunit. This confuses my unit with regards which mic/speaker/signal to process for different inputs (music, maps, calls, whatsapp, siri, etc). 2. if like me you do not have a manual for your head-unit - there are a few menus and setting that can make a massive improvement to the phone-connected-experience. for mine i learnt it via the dealership sending me a short video of a 'hidden' menu (it was less obviously located vs hidden) @Mohamed Seidam I am likely to remain a 'forever fewbie' based on my lack of desire to have the adrenaline rush of Intermediate drives SO if you ever feel like stepping back into a Fewbie drive and we are together i will happily share the way i have set up the headunit and the menu/settings that made a difference. I do have an older Android phone (Samsung galaxy 8+ which i will set up and share experience with this weekend - look out for a follow up including pics of the settings etc) My general review and experience with an aftermarket, non branded Android powered head-unit is below: (my recommendation is don't buy non-brand Chinese head-units and stick with the Pioneer, Sony, Alpine, Kenwood, etc as you may compromise on screen size but the listening experience is a different league) The sound processing and amp quality is 1/10 I would have been better off with the stock head unit for processing and amplification of sound as the Belsee is very weak) I upgraded the speakers and added sound proofing a few months back (very happy with the work they did) I plan to add an amplifier as a next upgrade to address the weak audio performance created by the head-unit 12.3" screen is 10/10 Size is a game changer vs stock/smaller screen as no matter what mode you run the display the maps look great and easy to read i can imagine using a true GPS app on this will be an amazing experience touch screen works well screen quality 8/10 it has a screen protector that i thought was an anti-glare layer however soon realised due to the poor visibility of the FJ, its like we are always sitting in the dark no matter time of day ... lol.. so glare is never a real issue its plenty bright as a result (likely benefiting from the 'basement' lighting experience of an FJ Microphone quality 1/10 Audio for others calling me is very poor - difficult for them to hear me. Siri is a poor experience Explaining my excitement to hear Angela was able to make Siri understand Scotish led me to believe i should keep faith that microphones can be improved!
