  1. Congrats for both you @Wrangeld and @Jeepie for making it this far! Last weekends drive has shown me and the freebie group you are well capable to take us on an amazing ride...

As @Frederic would say there was “more weeds than in Amsterdam” but I guess it was Mother Nature this winter giving it her all to grow some more vegetation...

Hoping to soon drive off into the sunset again enjoying the beautiful TJ in my windscreen....

  2. Hi guys,

Thank you very much I really appreciate the fact that my effort haven’t gone by unnoticed....

After last weeks drive I know that shoveling isn’t part of getting it this far is it @Vanessa8580... although I’ve learned loads, shoveling is one of those things albeit I usually leave this to other people at home... sometimes the sand requests me to do it myself...

Special thanks to @Gaurav, @Rahimdad, @Frederic who have taken great care of my sand-driving education to go from using brute power (as far as that’s available in a Pajero) to smooth and subtle driving...

Thanks to @Xaf, @Jeepie@Javier M & @Ale Vallecchi for doing some extra training on cross-crossing which got rewarded with my first pop out and that sped learning up even more!!

I’ve seen the growth from @Wrangeld to lead last weekend already which has really inspired me to learn even more! And was encouraged to see @Kalahari to have taken my efforts shoveling out his Prado serious and even buying an Xterra to cover it up ;-)

@Colin Jordan looking forward seeing you drive up here as well as I know you’ll make it, hope to see you do it in the big car as that seems way more fun than the one your wife has...

Hope to see you all next week!!

  3. Hi @Xaf,

As I shared with you earlier I use the AOR suction cup in a horizontal position on the roof with the single long AOR flag. Making the suction cup wet works for me in this position. That well that last week it stayed on top of the car even with 140km/h until @Jorge Stepniak Felippe was so nice to attend me that the flag was still on there ;-)

I guess the positioning and cleaning is the trick here to make this work...

  4. Hi @RohanH,

I’ve initially decided to make most mods on the gen4 pajero which makes it very nice to drive now, but in hindsight I could have also bought a 3rd car that will do the exact same thing. For me still a bit of a doubt whether I’ll stick to it or in the long run will by a dedicated off-road vehicle... also having 3 cars isn’t very easy to maintain which will take me a lot of time... if you only have 1 car now I guess it makes most sense to buy an extra as you will rely on the car a lot more....

Another option in this price range would be to buy a TJ, which I’ve had the pleasure to drive as well and as an open top it’s amazing to drive through the dunes... although it is and remains a Jeep which need some dirhams to keep them running...

  5. Hi Guys,

As they just announced the first stage of opening up things after lockdown, does driving off-road meet the criteria for an outdoor “exercise” as this is easy to do with protective gear and 2m social distancing...

    What’s your take on this?

    https://gulfnews.com/uae/all-you-need-to-know-dubai-eases-covid-19-restrictions-from-april-24-1.1587666389347

And what about the difference between Dubai and the other Emirates as this seems to be not very coherent...

  6. Hi @asifk,

I have a LWB as well, for the first drives just the rear bumper fix as @Frederic mentioned in the above thread will do the trick. I've just done a lift, bumper trim & bashplate in the front (see pics) to give it a bit more approach & departure angle on the trickier rides.

Started out with the un-painted bashplate but in the end had that one painted black as well to make it look nicer!

I am challenging ANYONE on this forum to understand a word of what these guys are saying.. It's West-Flemish dialect (where i am from) Maybe our dutch friends will understand 5%:

    Hi Fred,

I think it's an over-eager co-pilot, who mentioned the details in the road (poles) and uses "erûp" in a sense of getting the driver to hit the pedal even further to the metal...  in combination with the tightness of the curve expressed in a non-understandable language...

With the massive tow bar in the rear I was quite confident that the rear bumper lip couldn’t come loose, but wifey came home with the pleasant message that the lip came loose anyway during her drive. She managed to put it back in place herself but I decided to put some 2mm stainless steel plates on both sides and drilled into the tow bar. Didnt cost me anything and will hopefully do the job.

Looks good let’s see how it holds the next couple of drives... but on the “cost nothing” part, you always have metal plates lying around at home?
