  1. Both functions use the same sensors to collect information and calculate the the wheel spin and wheel locking if you remove the fuses of abs it will go into safe mode and disable the whole system all together and when you put it back on some cars you have to initialize the system and on some you just have to switch off and back on...the lights will get off and system up and running...

  6. Congrats all members on reaching the 15k Mark. It's a pleasure to be part of this group. Suggest all members meet at a designated place with all their rides. Also how about we design a carnity club sticker so that all the members can have it stuck on their rides.

  7. Planning a road trip to beautiful Salalah in Aug end to escape the UAE summer during upcoming Eid Al Adha break. Going to Salalah soon after the rainy season (July-Aug), is best treat you can give to your eyes and mind. Everything turns lush green during that time and looks like you are in some heavenly place. Apart from the endless natural beauty, Salalah also offer some interesting places to visit like anti-gravity point, boat rides, kayaking, visiting blowholes, waterfalls, exotic birds watching etc. Just to beat the rush at border, hotels and salalah we will start one day earlier, which will give us enough rest and time to explore Salalah for 3 full days + 2 for road trip. Planning early will help in securing all rooms in one hotel for Carnity members and we might get a good deal in bulk booking, so please decide ASAP. Tentative Travel plan: Start: 30 Aug 2017 – 4 AM Drive 1200 kms with 30 mins break every 200 kms Reach Salalah: 30 Aug 2017 – 7 PM Hotel check-in and relax Salalah Places to visit: 31 Aug – 2 Sep 2017 Return: 3 Sep 2017 – 4 AM Reach Dubai: 3 Sep 2017 – 7 PM Level of drive: All are welcomeType of Car: Any car is acceptablePlan: Road trip + daily trip in Salalah after the lazy breakfastWhat to bring along: Camera, music, lots of casual clothes, beach wear, smiles, stories, enthusiasm Please list your name and mobile below and RSVP the calendar. 11. I was really looking forward to this trip, but with the in-laws in town and having a 3 month visa, I cannot leave them and go, and I cannot bring them along. Let me check with my family and I will revert back within a week. I also have some good rates for hotels, let me check and I will advise if I can get better rates for hotels in Salalah. I like @aatish suggestion though.

  12. Has anyone noticed that fuel tank gauge has 4 quarter and each quarter deliver different mileage? This difference is also huge like below: 1st quarter - 120 kms 2nd quarter - 80 kms 3rd quarter - 60 kms 4th quarter - 100 kms I am just curious to know if this is happening with you guys too or not? If yes, then why?

  13. Thanks Gaurav for the quick response. I will share some pics soon. its an old gen 2 pajero (wide body) 2-toned, green & beige, which I inherited from my brother when he left Dubai. I am based in AUH and drive occasionally in DXB. I used to live in DXB until I move here for my work. I miss driving around sharjah looking at some used parts and cars which there is none here in AUH! there are some in mussafah but not like sharjah where they let you look around all day and no one will bug you. I am a bit OC when it comes to car interior and I've been staring at that broken vents for far too long. I've thought about the risk of changing the whole dash, was thinking there might be some tricks or somebody has done it here, but I guess not. I will check the list for upholstery and will definitely share some photos here! Cheers!

  14. I concur to your conclusion as the tarmac is going crazy hot these days. Going for a long trip in an unmanned territory would be not advisable for now.

  15. The problem is the sender is just an old fashioned variable resistor. Below is a picture of a fuel level unit from a modern Touareg. The float (black part) floats on top of the fuel and moves the arm up and down. At the end of the arm is an electrical contact. This contact slides over the resistance material (curved silver part) and the voltage changes depending on where the contact is sitting on the resistance material. An electrical signal is sent to the level gauge on the dashboard which is interpreted as the fuel level. Herein lies the problem, the height of the fuel is being measured, not the volume of the fuel. To design and manufacture an accurate computer system would cost a lot of money. The current system is cheap and cheerful. Which is what the majority of end users want. Cheap.

  16. @waqaszohair I am glad you are one of those 15K members and your idea is amazing, I am all in for this drive. The empty quarter will be filled in the winter months after some planning as we need to overnight camp, drive in the Liwa desert and some planning and good cold weather is always more than welcome on such a trip. Most probably we can do it in December on January when it is a bit cooler.

  17. Excellent observation and clarification @pankajrg Awesome question @amitaj I also used to wonder and get frustrated sometime due to this discrepancy. Question to car manufacturer, that why can't you study the fuel tank properly before installing the fuel sensor and calibrate the gauge to tell actual fuel remaining. This is the most important info that every driver rely on daily basis, than adding tons of modern gizmos in car that get used once in a while.

  18. Hi bvb, welcome aboard. I do drive 1999 SWB Pajero 3.5, check the drives pics in gallery for Silver Pajero. Do share some of your car pics, as I used to have 3.0 in white before scouting this 3.5. For upholstery, there are plenty of businesses listed here. I suggest to go to the nearest one and see the quality and bargain for the best price. https://carnity.com/search/?&q=upholstery&type=cms_records5&nodes=91&sortby=relevancy For AC duct, I am afraid you wont find any good one in used as I tried gazillion times and all came out broken, as its a brittle plastic and cracks as soon scarppy touches it. Habtoor can order whole assembly for 1400 dhs. Also remember that for changing those ducts you need to open the whole dashboard and risk of cracking many other plastic clips in and around. For all these reasons im also living with half broken ducts (sadly). If you find out some intelligent and practical way, please share it with me too.

  19. It's a great idea @Ren13, mixing your idea with @Barry (road trip) and @waqaszohair initial idea of around the uae. I have already done some prelim math last night considering the hotter month, tried trimming the route to 614 km by touching key places in each of 7 emirates in the UAE and return in 10 hours drive (including all pitstops + lunch + friday prayers). What you say guys.....? I and Rahim bhai are game for it. 11 August, Friday - 10 AM - 8 PM

  21. What can I say for my come back drive? What a drive? It had suspense, drama, excitement, lots of food and variety of drinks. We started at a good time, it was a bit humid and my car AC and Rav4 AC were not working, on the way a burned the AC clutch and we stopped momentarily for the belt to break on its own as we argued whether I should cut it or remove it. Waited for the smoke to settle and we were off, with the Rav4 AC clutch already burned, Sree had something bigger in mind and ended up burning his clutch plate all together before the end of the drive. The area was challenging and everybody managed well except for the usual stucks and refusals. As the night progressed towards morning the breeze was nicer and cooler for the 2 cars without an AC. @Gaurav Bhai, nice selection of area and a great lead to further challenge the hardened drivers we have in our group by now. @Asif Hussain a great second lead to keep the convoy alert and occupied at the same time. @shadow79 great third place to keep the Rav4 moving amazingly smooth through some rough dunes. @Skumar83 to keep on trying your level best to manage the dunes with your manual shifter, it's not easy but you did very well, the only bummer was the fact that the clutch plate was burnt to keep you away from the awesome action at the end. With a brief stop to eat some nice shawarmas and falafel sandwiches that @Gaurav bhai had got along with some nuts and chilled drinks, and @Asif bhai's coutesy extended with some amazing cup cakes and tea and Saleem with his own giant cool box that is really cool. After the break we headed towards Super Bowl which we reached close to day break, Cool weather in the early morning hours and good light made it a blessing to make first use of the front face of Super Bowl. We all had our turn and it was really fun, We than decided to head to the side of Super Bowl which was not that high, but the length of the dune looked amazing for some lip-smacking side sloping. However, after first use @Gaurav bhai advised us that there were some bumps which took away the fun and we need to be extra careful if we want to do the same. Next was Saleem and he soon realized the depth of the warning from Gaurav Bhai as after a jump his front wheels were swallowed by some soft sand as the car landed taking control of the steering and turning towards an upward direction with Saleem having no say in it. As a result the RAV4 flipped and was on it's side. Gaurav Bhai and I rushed to the scene with everybody else following us closely. Saleem had managed to do the one thing he was in control of, which was to switch the engine off immediately. After discussing for a while we put our plan into practice and soon Sreekumar had his rope with the shackles from the front to the rear end of the Rav4, my viking was attached to Sreekumar's rope and I slowly moved back to see if the pull would be what was required in the right direction. After making sure that we will have the desired result I made a first attempt which only slightly moved the vehicle in a sideways position down the dune, I had to than give it a little bit more power and the Rav4 was on it's 4 wheels, but had a couple of pop-outs. There were a few challenges but with the sun rearing it hot head and getting heated, we quickly popped the tires back in and were on our way to Iftar Bowl which by now had become a highway with loads of traffic. Only Gaurav Bhai made it straight up, with myself making it through my cheat route, Asif Bhai making it to the top of my car almost due to some confuion, but closely missed my car. and the Rav4 almost making it to the top just touching the peak. Unfortunately Sreekumar could not play because of his burnt clutch. All in all, the drive was challenging and eventful and I could not have asked for a better gift on my return.

  22. We need to find the ABS fuse and remove it for the drives, or you can install a switch to turn it off and on as required. Saleem might be able to help with the switch installation, but his garage is in Ajman.

  23. Good answer pankaj. The fuel tank is just whatever shape they can fit in the space given.
    1 point
  24. The reason for this is that the cars fuel tanks are not perfectly rectangular/square and the fuel sensor just measures the level of the fuel. Hence each vertical quarter actually has a different volume leading to different mileage...

  25. Hello, New user. I am not new to the car world but just underage (17). Soon I'll be able to do some stuff on the car. My god I have a lot of questions. First of all, I checked on ebay turbo kits and they give decent power but a lot of negativity on it's reliabilty. I have heard you can find a decent 2jz in a Sharjah scrapyard for about 1200 dirhams(heard could be wrong). So i was thinking making a visit to one of those scrapyards would find me a good reliable turbo (out of a toyota or a nissan or any jdm car) making decent boost(cuz lets see im not rich and not looking for a thousand horsepower). The car will be my daily with some off road trips. So what would be the cost of a used turbocharger and where would I find it? Also there is the thing of the manifold cuz it is a 6-2-1 and the pipes join really low (under the car, not a suitable place for a turbo). I looked at a turbo manifold and it was 5000 dhs!!!! way out of budget. So where and how much would it cost to get yours fabricated? Toyota LandCruiser 2001 gxr v6

  26. "About the power, it is not more than enough especially for those sand hills" People who know me, know this is true. So I'm not just making this up Earlier my profession was that of a Desert Safari guide, which I did for almost a decade, and used the same car you are thinking off, first was a 2000 GXR LC100 series with a manual transmission and later a 2003 LC 2003 with an Auto,So I know these cars pretty well and big part of my day was spent driving them and on off days in the shop with them, fully loaded with 6 pax, full two tanks of fuel and very basic suspension modification ( heavy duty coil in the rear and torqued stock torsion bars up front ) it had still enough power to go everywhere and I drove in almost every desert patch in this country from Liwa to Khatim. Also mind you these were not bought brand new off the showroom floor, but bought second on the cheap with over 100k kms on the clock, never opened stock engine with not even a CAI or modded exhaust. So to answer your question, yes it does have enough power.

  27. @treks @Barry @desertdudeThank you for all the response. @Derick It is all good. Thanks also. I hope i can be more detailed. I am actually looking for something that will hold 5-7 psi and get me to around 300 hp(sounds too much?). The engine is totally rebuilt. The car made 205 on base. Ecu reflashed and chipped to 217 hp. the mechanic said that the car is good for 450 hp. I understand all the basics of forced induction. Now why I said a used turbo is because they are out of cars that had an accident or other fault so the turbo is still in a good condition and also made for daily driving so not easy to have a shaft play or anything of that sort. They are aimed at reliability and a lot of good tuners recommend those (turbos from junkyards) for small amounts of boost and daily driving(just what I am looking for). About the power, it is not more than enough especially for those sand hills. You needn't worry about me learning to drive, I am comfortable with the car. Although, it is not like I am gonna turbo just tomorrow.

  28. Yes guys, it's true that one of my close friend's EVO timing chain (not belt) snapped but not due to excessive boost but due to oil jets broke off and lodged in between the chain. Tuner finding was it may be the oil quality or level might not be optimum.

  29. To me, it sounds more like the habtoor techs wanted to have a dig at the customer than a valid explanation for what happened. Once you modify anything these guys have you in a barrel and the modifications will always get blamed for anything that fails.
    1 point
  30. The timing belt broke because of too much boost? That's something I've never seen in my life and I can't find any case studies on it. If I had to put money on it, I'd say the belt was already past it's best and was ready to snap anyway. Plenty of evos out there running 400+ bhp with standard timing belts.
    1 point
  31. Im sorry if I may have sounded negative to you, but I was trying to help you in a way to raise few red flags on your proposed idea. I know a person who modified EVO to increase hp by 25% and 4 months later timing belt broke and Habtoor found the reason to be because of excessive boost. If LC is delivering 240 hp in stock state then all of it's component has been design to support that be it engine internal components or ancillary components. Secondly you also need to factor the current age of vehicle is already 16 years old and by now all parts are already running weak to barely support 240 hp let alone if you exceed, you will open big can of worms. Thirdly even if somehow you did everything right, then the chances of car will die / explode on first few push onroad or offroad as UAE heat is really extreme factor that you need to consider for 16 years old engineering + turbo boost. Hope you listen to experienced people advices here, as life is too short to learn from your own mistake. To your actual question: You can buy turbo from Ramy trading in dubai, Golden sun in sharjah. For used parts I dont know.
    1 point
  32. It's not as simple as just removing the turbo come testing time. There's manifolds (intake and exhaust), oil lines, air pipes, exhaust, induction system and the ecu will have to be flashed back to standard map. It's no small job. If you're going to use wasta to get it passed, it's probably not a good idea to mention it on a public forum as a lot of people could lose their jobs. Passing aside, remember the police will pull you over and take your car if they suspect it's been modified in any way. Turbo whistle, not to mention an intercooler hanging out the front bumper is a dead giveaway. If you want a small turbo without modifying the engine, it's pretty pointless as you can only run maybe 7-8 psi before you start problems. Far easier just to fit a 50 shot of nitrous for short bursts up dunes. Read this and you'll have a better understanding of how turbocharging actually works, then you can ask more relevant questions,

  33. 1st quarter - 120 kms - because they overfill the tank at the station 2nd quarter - 80 kms - normal 3rd quarter - 60 kms - so that you rush to the station to refill it 4th quarter - 100 kms - in case you missed 3rd quarter and keep ignoring, you have some fuel reserves so that you are not stranded without fuel.

  34. Dude, a land cruiser already has more than enough power for a teen who can't even drive on the roads legally yet. First of all what you want to do is illegal and a fine-able offence so don't expect too much help on an open forum and secondly Derick is correct, all those "arab dudes" you are talking about spend small fortunes and countless hours in garages modifying their cars, a lot of trial and error is also involved with a lot of blown engines, transmissiosn etc etc. If only if it were that easy by just slapping on a junked turbo from a scrapyard. I wouldn't even let my kid have something like a land cruiser as a first car, I'd let him ding about in a jap ecobox for a year or so to learn the ropes and get a few fender benders out of the way first before getting him something halfway decent. So my sincere advise, 1st get a license, then learn how to drive and get comfortable with it and then maybe, just maybe even think about mods like turbos and sh!t. An over enthusiastic kid who grew up play Gran Turismo and Forza, already talking about boosting a car he cannot even drive yet, you know is not going to end well. Too many kids already dying or ending up crippled on the roads here already because of their love for speed who end up driving car with way more power they can handle, so think real hard if you want to become just another statistic

  35. Your first mistake is wanting to use a used turbo. Your second mistake is not wanting to buy an engine that is designed to work with forced induction, and fitting that entire engine into the car you are inheriting. Your third mistake is wanting to turbo charge something that does not need it.
    1 point
  36. It isn't that easy and "practical" as it sounds in theory. If it was, no one will buy expensive fast cars and keep adding turbo to lancer, yaris and tiida's. Adding turbo to a non turbo car is very risky as all items in the car is design to work under certain limitation and adding trbo horsepower will def go exceeds critical engine parts limitation. For adding turbo, you have to modify lot many engine parts, exhaust parts, cooling, brakes, differential etc. Even if you spend 20k to replace all parts to fit 1200 dhs turbo then RTA will fail your car as its a risk to you adn other road users as car might explode anytime.

  40. As promised after my two weeks break, will offer something really exciting for all experienced off-road drivers at Carnity. So what better than Sweihan adventurous night drive in the month of July when we have some well experienced night hawks in the convoy now. Thanks to Rahim bhai teaching in last few drives to break their fear of leading, I think this Sweihan night drive will hone their skills even more with tall rolling step dunes. They are difficult to enter due to their height, and one can only access them through "steps" strategy. Once on top they are fun to drive as all big dunes are inter-connected and offer broad ridge to ride and kick your last drop of adrenaline. P.S. This is real Sweihan area drive and not Nahil area what we did in March. This will be quiet a few notch above Nahil dunes. When: 13 July 2017 Meeting time: 11:00 PM Starting time: 11:15 PM (SHARP) Where: First ADNOC service station on E20 (Al Haiyir to Nahil) after turning right from Dubai - Al Ain (after faqa). GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/CgheV2mSLp12 Level of drive: Fewbies - Intermediate Type of drive: Adrenaline kicking fun drive with plenty of breaks and food time on top of some awesome dunes Plan: Learn advance night sand off-road driving What to bring along: Food, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn Approximate finish time: 6 AM - 14 July 2017 Safety advice: All vehicles should have proper tow hook in front and back Drive is only open for proper 4x4 vehicles, not for SUV's, AWD, and Sedan's Vehicle should have minimum 10-12 inches of ground clearance Every vehicle should have proper shovel, deflator and tire pressure gauge Two way radio, air compressor, tow rope, Jack and shackle are advisable to carry if you have Please leave your name and mobile here and RSVP on below calendar:

  42. After a long time, we had some good time to drive and enjoy the desert. Total of 5 cars made in with excellent coordination, teamwork and calculated move to cover 31 kms off-road in 5 hours in middle of Sweihan tall dunes. We started on time from meeting point and asif bhai joined the convoy just before the deflation point. We had nice cup of tea there, just before the drive starts. Driving after 3-4 years in Sweihan, all I can say that desert has changed now as some strange fencing has been done inside the desert. The patch we have chosen used to be the most amazing area in whole sweihan with big rolling dunes and amazing drops, but now little restricted due to new fencing. As soon as we started, just after couple of big dunes we encountered the first fence that has broken access and soon we entered inside there was a big drop on one side of tall dune and edge of the dune was fenced. Only way is to go down and get sucked into the fence that has small opening to exit. You make it or break it kind of situation, at first attempt I barely escape that without scratching my car, then came back to help sri and made his car out of the situation with ease. Rest of the cars stayed on top and we went back a little to find another way to continue. This strange experience, alarmed all of us as to beware of what lies ahead in deep dunes and dangerously installed fence inside the pockets and bowls making sweihan driving in night even more difficult and challenging. As per my educated guess, I think this whole patch has now been divided in two parts now by placing straight line fence in between. Only option we had, is to keep the fence on our left and keep driving on right side and avoid going too close to fence on left. The two good waypoint I had marked for this route fall on the other side of fence, so we couldn't visit the dome bowl and another waypoint, too bad. What we had in our hand was beautifully enough for all of us to enjoy the Sweihan. Apologies to everyone for lack of break time as we were running on tight schedule to exit before it gets too hot. We all managed very well and without any incident and just one pop-out and couple of minor stucks - very commendable for sweihan level of drive. RAV4 after the lift, started doing well as far as driver stays focused. Sri's Pajero was second lead and he did wonderful job in protecting others behind him by correcting the path ahead. Asif bhai's monster was roaring and enjoying throughout. Basil's sweep position was equally important and proven helpful as when he drives in second lead. We had a good break at 4 AM for almost an hour to bring all the food on the table and enjoyed everyone's specialties. Thanks to nice breeze in open area, we all had good food, rest and recharge for the last leg of the drive. By the time we started after the break in daylight, we all could see the beauty of sweihan and what we have been driving since last 4 hours. We drove and played little in last leg for 2 hours and by 7 AM we have exited the desert towards a track, which connected us back to the main road from where we started in night. Overall it was very adventurous and challenging drive, little tiring but equally thrilling due to the constant focus that we need to keep. May be for next attempt, we should go further down and enter the desert so that we can actually go on to the left side of the fence that has more beautiful rolling dunes. Last but not least, every one of us missed our superman very much and we hope we can do another sweihan run, once he is back.

  43. All rounder AND better for the desert is an oxymoron. This implies both cars are good all rounder but which one is better for the desert. The previous generation of Pathfinders were good allrounders, pretty good in the desert and good on the road specially if you have a family or value cargo space. I had a friend who bought one new and used it as his daily driver and weekend warriror all the way up tp 300k kms without any real issues. Even with its very poor visibility all round the FJ is more geared towards off road use. Rear seats and entry is pathetic so not a good family ride. I would suggest to look for a 2door VX 6 cyl Prado instead of the FJ a much better car and off road performer. A FJ is basically a LWB 4dr prado underneath with a FJ body on top anyways. P.S: Pathfinder talked about here is not to be confused with the current generation of gay egg shaped FWD ugly as fek Pathfinder
