I am with @Frederic on this one. I am assuming you meant the Jeep JK vs the JL, the later being the newest version of the jeep. It would really depend if you will be using the jeep off-road or just for daily commute. In a few words 5 speed is better off-road and the 8 speed is better on highway. The 8 speed claims to reduce fuel consumption by 9% over the 5 speed transmission but I doubt it is for the transmission, I think is because JL has an aluminum body as opposed the steel body of the JK, making the JL lighter and therefore improving fuel consumption. I think that for on-road driving will definitely benefit from the 3 extra speeds since you will run in lower revs. However, when it comes to off-road keep in mind this 8 speed transmission is used in the Ram 1500 and Grand Cherokee, cars that are not necessarily made for off-road like the Wrangler this is a transmission that is not properly tested off-road. They are only installing this transmission for cost purposes and they are not thinking about the reliability. In off-road conditions simpler is always better, unless you use the 8 speed in triptronic it will be under much more stress than the 5 speed.

That looks like an under bumper mounted flashing brake light. Seen a few of them. Not a bad idea. A lot of people will see a flashing light before they see a constant light. The bottom image looks like a ghetto JDM fake towing eye. The Filipinos seem to love them, no offence to our Filipino members, my wife is filipina, but totally useless in the real world. Form over function.

Like @desertdude once said, RTFM. Any car I’ve ever owned, it wasn’t long until the dashboard got opened up and the beep beep either got stabbed with a screwdriver or hit with a hammer. Sometimes you just want to sit in the car with the door open and enjoy a smoke with the radio on and not have a beep beep messing with your peaceful state of mind.

@vishlad702 if you aren't using the car for offroading and previously happy with the stock setup, my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION is to stick to original Mitsubishi shock setup to not to open a big can of worms come with another shock unless they are the direct replacement. @Praveenmp same goes for you but halfway as you are offroading and with this shock change opportunity you can look into upgrading to stiffer suspension or adjustable setup to have best of both worlds: Soft for road + hard for offroad. In your case moving away from stock suspension is better and advisable but do your research on various brands like Tough dog, Ranchos, Old Man, Rough Country, Dobinsons, Kings etc. to see what price point you are looking at.

I have a Pajero 2015, 3.5 ltr V6. So I had this severe dashboard rattle which started sometime back. I suspected the tyres and got them checked at multiple shops with all of them saying that the tyre has got some life left. However this week the rattling was unbearable at any small dips or on even slight variations on the road. I thought to get my shocks checked once for any leakages or any damage to the shocks. The culprit was found. The right front shock had a broken bush and the left one was not behaving normal. The left shock absorber behaviour could be because the right bush was broken and the left felt a bit harder than the right. However the mechanic advised me to change the front shock for both the sides. He gave me an estimate of 540 Dhms for parts (from Habtoor) and labour would be extra. I have always felt that he Original Mitsubishi shocks were not so good at dampening. I am also thinking to get the rear ones changed as well. So my queries are a) Do I need to go for OEM Shocks? b) Is it also recommended to change the top mount for shocks? c) Any 3 brands which can replace the shocks in Pajero. I do not take my Pajero offroad and hence comfortable ride is a priority on road. d) Price range for front and back pair. c) Where do I get these from? Thank you

Second vote for KYB. I’ve been using them for 20 years and I give preference to them over manufacturer branded shocks. Unless we’re going into more expensive stuff, then I would recommend Koni Gas Adjustables, totally pointless for every day driving though. KYB is same quality as dealer but better price. Kayaba is a well established brand who know what they are doing. If you’re driving on tarmac, go for the KYB Gas filled shocks. Little bit more expensive (not much) than oil filled, but the ride is so much better. The only downside is that gas shocks wear out a little bit faster than oil filled shocks but we’re not talking about much. 60-70k for gas shocks versus 70-80k for oil filled so in the grand scheme of things for long term use, it’s nothing. A few extra dirhams for your comfort every day is totally worth it. Also, change the top mounts if you are changing the shocks. It costs money but it isn’t too expensive. If you have to pay for a second set of labour, 10, 15, 20k down the line, it will cost more.

Hi, I too have similar issues and I am also looking for some suggestion any other brand shocks.I do little bit newbie kind of off-roading and in fact i changed my springs 6mnths back which gave me a lift of approx 1.5 “ which is ok for me to retain and now I have rattling noice from my front and the culprit is the front shocks both are gone (off course they accept my rubbish driving for last 10 years) now I have to give them Retirement. I got some inspections with few garages and the finding is most of my bushes are gone and they just stick with it because they have no choice to escape 😀. So I have decided to replace all of them and with new shocks and mine is done 156000kms and now have plan to change all the oils as I did last. 100k to give some new blood to keep my dear to be healthy for few more years... Luckily I have no big vibrations so far @ 120 kms speed I wanted to get it fixed before it give any major complaints. i also find some slight oil leakage(kind of 😓) from my cylinder head cover very minor and seems I may need to change the gasket. I remember it started while off-roading some time back in fossil rock area. thanks for reading a big message and all your suggestions are highly appreciated

I've had very bad experiences with AC Delco. I have a feeling they're manufactured/programmed to die right after the warranty period is over ( happened thrice) . Switched to Amaron, now a dead battery is the last thing on my mind.

Have experienced it in quetta there it's really common but still whenever it happened everyone around me used to run to open ground where as I was usually trying to gasp if it was in my head or really things were shaking many times my relatives used to run and then come back to get me...but still it didn't register in my head what actually was happening...

Do you mean the whole body of the car leaned over? If so that’s normal for anything for with high torque when taking off. I couldn’t find any videos of cars doing it but check these trucks drag racing and you can see it a bit. Its not a driveshaft issue. The engine is trying to turn harder than the wheels and differential will allow it. This causes the engine to tilt over and the rest of the vehicle to go along with it. Try revving something with a big v8 at a standstill and you will feel the car rocking from side to side a little. This is a small demonstration of it.

With these Mustangs and LS430s though, a major portion of the cars in the UAE are US salvage. Even in salvage cars, if you look at the Copart/Manheim/IAA auction car purchases and subsequent rebuilds documented, most of them have minor issues and are simple to moderate difficulty fixes. But, the UAE used car dealers seem to buy absolutely totaled cars and fix them up. Moreso with latest models. I'd recently seen the latest Civic and Accord in such shambles, I wouldn't touch those cars with a barge pole. On the other hand, two of my petrolhead friends have clean US spec cars that were non salvage and brought in because the manual versions weren't sold here. Occasionally, such cars do exist. So, due diligence and knowledge on the car and issues can help save some $$$

If the doctor advised you to only buy that, do so as medicines are priceless. Or you can wait to find a clean one and be ready to pay an extra premium. It took me 4-5 months to find a Range without a donkey mileage and when I found it, I closed the deal in 1 hour. My biggest worry with import is the substandard repair that might cost me arm and leg after a couple of months, no matter how smartly I check or find the history but you can never find the background on how cheaply it has been repaired or how unsafe it can be for me and my family usage.

Barry when you buy one and drive for a year or two and sell it successfully then you will go through the real learning process. I can go on with this topic until my fingers bleed, but I'll keep it short: Weather specs are only one worry and yes it does require alteration and modification and after that, you can safely enjoy non-gcc specs car in UAE. This process if you are not highly educated and mechanically well off then workshop here will rip you off and you will finish all saving you made by buying the non-gcc specs in one go. Secondly, as desertdude mentioned, all imports are either flood damage or accident written off, again you should have a real keen eye to identify a clean car among the bunch of lemons. And trust me used car dealer here are so smart in covering things up that even the seasoned eyes can get fooled. I got saved twice purely by good luck, when all my experience and knowledge said its cleaned and even the testing guys generated a clean title report. Lucky while getting the insurance come to know that it has been written off by Al Tayer and that's why no guarantee on 4 years model who supposed to have 5 years guarantee. Workmanship here to hide things can get to real hideous level sometimes in the automotive industry. So take no chance in such pass the bug game, or else you might get stuck with that bug for LONG LONG time. I know more than 10 friends who are still driving import purely because they can't sell it. Last but not least is the terrible resale value, as they depreciate faster than GCC cars and after getting it cheap, you will really regret selling at even cheaper resale value, as the market is always flooded with these imports and people are always desperate to knock them off and used car dealers are very competitively priced to drive these car prices lower every month due to endless supply from abroad. Long story short, I highly advise everyone that pay 10-15% extra and buy GCC cars, so you will enjoy the ownership and you will be able to sell it off at a fair price after you are done.

I would say market is now low 50s for a 2013, low 60s for a 2014. Those are the 2 years that I looked at the most tbh. I have to say that @treks has a point, the car is VERY tail happy so if he is an inexperienced driver then he'll need to be careful he doesn't bin it round a bend. As for tracking, I have no idea as to costs and reliability of a 370 on track. I am trying to find track day insurance but it's proving difficult. Don't think I would risk it without insurance.

Every car is different man. I do a lot of reading up on how the cars I own work, mechanically and electrically. and knock on wood have been able tackle quite a few tricky situations on my rides, ( Blown ECUs, Strange electrical issues that would leave half the electrics of a car dead without notice and while driving, weird ac fan blower issues, cooling fan issues, transmission shifting issues son on and so forth ) which I am sure would have been taken to the cleaners if I even tried to get them fixed at a garage, specially being Luxury European SUV. But armed with a workshop manual, basic tools and later a diagnostic tool. I was able do all these fixes on my own for free or pennies. Mike is right, invest in some diagnostic equipment and some basic tools, be ready to do a lot of research and reading and be ready to get your hands dirty If you are the kind of guy who never likes to get under the hood or finds changing a tyre icky and menial work, then you are the mercy of the grease monkeys. Gaurav has already given the contact details of someone he trusts, and I know he owned a Cayenne too and nowing how OCD he is with his vehicles he wouldn't recommend anyone he didn't completely trust with his own vehicle. So that would be your other way forward if you are the type of guy who just wants to drop the vehicle at the garage and then come pick it up in a few days and have it all sorted out.
