Firstly, apologies for the delayed trip report, as was away from my laptop for many days.So here it goes: After the newbie drive in the morning, some of us joined for the afternoon fewbie drive as well.. We all reached on time and after a quick brief, we headed out in the attempt to make it to the long range dunes at the other end by sunset. @Rahimdad was in second lead with @Gaurav in center forward position, and @Emmanuel covering the sweep duties. The entry point had some technical dunes that resulted in a few stucks in the beginning of the drive. As we had repeated stucks within a short span, it was decided to reshuffle the convoy numbering and that helped in a much smoother drive thereafter. We encountered some nice challenging dunes along the way, but it still was not the playable long range dunes for which Faqa was famous. On one such dune, @Frederic discovered the perfect way to get crested, right down the middle with all 4 tyres being free. I have never seen such a beautiful crest in the past 2 years of offroading. Recovering him from this position safely was a challenge, but @Gaurav ensured that Frederic was recovered with minimum amount of fuss. By then we had about one hour before sunset and we increased the pace, but unfortunately had a couple of pop-outs and one misaligned steering wheel for @Melvin Martin. Since, we were close to the road Gaurav helped Melvin till the road and bid him farewell. By then the sun had set and we settled down in a nice area for some hard earned meal and drinks. We didn't make it to the long range dunes yet again. This is the fourth time, that I have drive in Faqa had have not made it. Thanks for the lovely drive @Srikumar i was glad to tip my toes in the sand again after being away for a while. I always knew that one day i would become famous and known because of my stupidities, so that crest was indeed something to remember I've watched the video footage of other members crossing that ridge maybe 50 times in slo-mo to see what i did wrong there and how i can avoid it in the future. In my case i was riding the ridge but starting to loosen the throttle to slowly come down off the dune, but i lost momentum and in a last effort to win back momentum and pushing the gas, the car straightened itself again, ending up sitting perfectly straight on the top of the dune. Big thumbs up to @G.huz in the Pathfinder in front of me. He did not seem to break a sweat following @Rahimdad. Another big thumbs up to @Brette who struggled a bit initially but never lost his smile and positive attitude ! And thanks to @Gaurav for breaking in my new clutch and engine 😂. I should put a stamp on it called "Offroad Approved by Carnity's Gaurav". See you guys next Friday !

Hello Folks, Howdy!. Just wanted to update that I was unable to find the time to get a used part for the intake pipe, and so got a new one and had it fitted: 1. Part cost: AED 370 2. Fitting Charge: AED 50 So that was AED 420 in total that I had to shell out!

I have also learned the clutch hard way by smelling a lot in my Patrol days, but thankfully I never burnt. The stamp should cost you more Belgian chocolates, than being kanjoos with Ferrero Rocher.

@Frederic I think by the end of the drive you were head to toe in sand 😂

If it’s good enough for a GT40 or Porsche 917 I think it will be ok for a pajero.

hahahaha... thanks man, for the kind words, and thanks the great company. i must say, despite the stucks, the drive was awesome, the dunes were wicked, i would do it again with a heartbeat. hats off to @Brette, i couldn't say it better, so true... thanks for being positive man 👍 i need to learn that from you. it was a lovely drive indeed, thanks everyone 👍

Normally 5 newbie drives with Carnity to get to Fewbie level. But since you have brought to our notice that you have driven with other clubs let us notice your driving level on your next drive and we could bump you up to Fewbie if you qualify.

The issue is mainly with the 3.8 litre version as they have bigger disc brakes on the front wheel, and the smallest size that you can fit for them is 17 inch rim. However, on the 3.5 version, the basic version does come with 16 inch rims. So there should not be a problem if Fuad decideds to reduce his rim size from 17 inch to 16 inch.

Gulf Oil was originally an American company before it was bought over by the Hinduja group. It is more than a 100 year old company, probably older than Total as well. They are a reputable company and they have one of the better QC labs here in the Middle East.

At least you know what’s rattling. That’s the hardest part. There must be a way of sticking a wedge in without seeing it.

I agree with @elvis. Your advise might be great and you are more aware than others, but please refrain from putting others opinions down.

Here is the easiest, fastest and safest way to fix a tyre pop out in less than 5 minutes: Tools required: Wooden plank/Jack board/plate Hydraulic Scissors Jack Air Compressor Shovel Water Steps involved: Move the vehicle "VERY SLOWLY" to flat ground. If you do it fast, then the inner (behind the tire) seam will also come out and make the pop out repair more difficult and sometimes impossible. Find a good jacking point and place a big wooden plank just under it - on perfectly flat ground. You can move the board a few times to flatten the sand so that jack sits on the flat ground. Place the jack on the board safely and lift the jack, just enough to regain the tire shape and then dig little under the tire. If you lift too much, then chances of tipping the jack are higher. Clean the open seam properly with water, run the fingers inside to make sure no sand is sticking inside the tire as that will leak the air while inflating. Inflate the tire with the air compressor and hold the open seam outward with little strength. Don't shake or use too much strength as jack might tip. When seam starts sitting in place, you will hear a loud/soft pop that means tire seam has been properly seated in its place and you can drive back normal. SAFETY WARNINGS: If you have a jack stand, use it under the axle. If you have a spare jack use it under the axle for safety. While the vehicle is lifted with jack, avoid any jittery move like slamming the door, closing the hood, getting in or out the car, this might cause jack to tip and cause serious injuries. While the vehicle is lifted with jack, NEVER EVER put your head, hand, legs or any body part under the car or under the tire. You can fix the tire from the side as shown in the picture above.

Hi I have a 2016 Pajero with the standard side-mirror rattling, fortunate it dont make a sound just a bit it irritating when looking in the mirror. but i have another rattle that is making be go crazy(er) from the middle console i have a rattle and after much searching and prodding i realized its the cover over the gear selector and 4wd selector If i put my hand on it it stops! EUREKA! have any one of you guys had the same and is there some nice solution? im thinking of just wedging something in the seam against the rest of the interior but it is not very nice. Regards Per

True. Unfortunately the first few hours of the trip was delayed due to the refusals and other stops and my battery ran out by the 2nd or 3rd hour. It was the first test shoot with this camera. Hopefully I can time the shots better next time.

Totally agree, finding these buggers are the hardest part. In my wife Trail Blazer, there is constant rattling from behind the passenger seat and it's been two years I have tried all the guesswork to find the culprit, but failed.

What does Infiniti means and why it's spell differently with I instead of Y?

Think of Nissan and Infiniti the way people think of Toyota and Lexus and it will make sense.

@Fuad I don't think you'll be able to go down to 16 inches as the disc on the 17 inches is bigger and smaller rims don't fit. Correct me if I'm wrong @Srikumar. Coming down a sharp slope with your steering turned full on right or left and either brake or speed up and you could get a pop out even if you not deflated to the max.

Trip Report. What a magical day. Started with a sprinkle of rain. Reached to the meeting point to find everybody waiting. Great to see such enthusiasm and energy. After our newbie brief we headed to the deflation point. Once the convoy numbering was assigned we were off. The new comers and first timers were absolutely putting everything briefed in to practice. After a couple of refusals we tried to move but had to stop as one of the cars was having a slight issue. The car was safely guided back to the road and the owner joined Emmanuel to learn from the passenger seat. We started again and the weather kept us very comfortable. As we slowly but steadily made it towards Pink Rocks, we came across a few camels. Not to disturb them from their breakfast we parked our cars at a distance and started to walk towards them. They were gracious to accept us in their terrain and after a few hugs, pets and selfies we were back to our cars and headed to the base of Pink Rocks. As we came close to the Pink Rocks we could see and hear the roaring engines of those playing on the Pink Rocks. Eventually we made it to the base and settled down. I should thank everybody for some amazing breakfast, looked better than what the camels were having and surely tasted wonderful. As we came to the end of our breakfast everyone was quick to help pack up. At this point we headed to the top of Pink Rocks, everybody made it to the top which is commendable for first timers and newbies. We headed out in a slightly more challenging track which bought us out to 2nd December Cafeteria which was closed for Friday prayers. With a little helping hand we could inflate all the cars. At this point we headed back home, or Friday prayers for the Muslims. And @Emmanuel, @Srikumar and I headed to Al Faqa area for the afternoon drive.
