I think you covered everything, well done. As you mentioned it was a very very soft patch (and again the sand was a bit wet underneath). I will just add one detail : as shown by @Javier M there was a fraction of second of hesitation when I saw the small pocket below on the right. It doesn’t appear clearly on the video, but it was a quite nasty one. I could have got stuck in an even worst way if I had felt in it from this angle. Let’s see tomorrow 😂

Looks like not many offroaders are interested here in knowing these secrets, as they are happy being stuck. My observation: Everything that Fred and Javier's mention is true + when you are in lead you are bound to get these stuck as sometimes you step on deceiving looking sand, that looks hard from top but super soft from below. So as soon as you step on it, you will get stuck. Sometimes in such situation, only your early action of steering down/away can help to escape such stuck. Emmanuel, please add your viewpoint as a driver in case we have missed any.

hi, i have stock front tow point and installed aftermarket tow points in the rear. I drive a nissan xterra and i have basic offroad knowledge (about 7-8 drives)

I was in a massive crash between a Citroen AX and a Audi A6 Avant. I was the unlucky one sitting in the back of the Citroen AX. Came out with only few bruises while the car was completely wrecked. i guess sometimes you just need that guardian angel..

I can see it being useful if you get stuck in snow but in all honesty, if you’re in snow that bad you should have chains on. Incidentally, has anyone ever tried snow chains on sand?

Even that name makes me cringe and shudder. I get that some people like him, but me, nah, not for me thank you very much.

1) Way too fast for such a heavy vehicle full of passengers. 2) Tried to fight gravity by counter steering at the last minute, but made it even worse.

Thread was "Basic know hows" nothing better than an owners manual for that. And seems like you are also guilty of not reading your owners manual, every Land Rover I've owned has a section on what to do before as well as after you go off road! Ok granted its not much but its there. P.S : I my earlier post I ment toyota and Prado and not Mitsubishi and Jero. So many Pakero threads on this forums one naturally assumes we are talking about a jero.

I hear you. I agree that PM's can be pain in the behind at times, but sometimes the purpose of a private message is more important than getting views or likes or whatever.

Honestly, I don't see the purpose of a PM in a public forum, as I can personally state that I have been receiving plenty of queries on the PM which should have originally been on the forum. By discussing on the forum you get multiple views plus the information is useful for someone in the future. I don't have PM access either, and I am kinda glad I don't.

Welcome @vsmano to Carnity and Its offroad club, this drive will be perfect for absolute newbies.

These days I only check fluid levels, and then only the ones I don't have to use tools for. I'm fine with pulling out a dip stick or unscrewing a radiator cap, and I will even look at the brake fluid and windscreen washer fluid level since both these containers are transparent, but for anything else I will take my cars to one of my erstwhile competitors.

I do my own oil chnages, although recently got the garage to do the major oil change. I wanted a garage to check my car and make sure an expert eye catches any issues that I have missed. I also find re-filling heavy gear oil a messy procedure, and also transmission oil. But I have changed spark plugs, installed a front diff locker, rebuilt a BMW Vanos, brake calipers, as some of my more complex jobs. At times when I pressed for time I will give the car to the garage, but wouldn't mind doing more, but work gets in the way.Nothing more relaxing than a stripped bolt to remove.

Different horses for different courses. Personally, I swear by manual transmission. I have many friends on here who swear by automatic transmission. You just need to try both and see what suits you.
