With the official end of the summer season, we plan to restart having two drives a day. And what better way then to up the pace at Al Faqa desert which is famous for its long range tall dunes that are fun to drive at good pace for ridge riding, side sloping that would test your offroad skills. The drive is for Intermediates and above only. Plan is to start at sunrise and drive till about 10:30 AM or even a bit more weather permitting. Started of as a hobby and turned semi professional at it. Music production and sound engineering. Realistic Flight Simulator. Current weapon of choice. Flight Simulator X steam edition and favourite bird to fly the PMDG Boeing 777. Semi professional at video editing also but ever since I started getting paid work for it I stopped enjoying it so I stopped. Mostly because clients want a Hollywood blockbuster at late night cable infomercial budget. Wrenching on my and buddies ride is obvious of course. I would love to learn electronics as in where I can design my own PCB or maybe even start off with simple troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs on things like lcd tvs, mobile phones and motherboards etc etc. Also really really really interested in astronomy nowadays ever since seeing the Hubble deep space image and first images of a black hole. Still looking for that right type of telescope at the right price to come along

After the success of the last Absolute Newbie Drives and with the weather getting better over the last couple of weeks I am announcing this drive. However if no absolute newbies sign up we might up the level depending on the convoy signed up. This time we will drive in Maliha / Kalba area that offers perfect opportunity to learn in very safe and easy tracks to medium rolling dunes. Looking for an easy relaxing drive for everyone with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow, hill climb, and ridge riding. Newbies and Fewbies will have a great chance to see and learn the real fun that off-roading offers in a very safe and organized environment. Trip Report - What a wonderful time with amazing people and dreamy weather. From being on time, to the smiles, to following advice, all did very well. Starting on time from the meeting point and heading towards the deflation point was quick. The briefing was precise with great advise. @Gaurav bhai in lead followed by @Frederic, @Emmanuel, @Shamil, @AKR and me in the sweep. Some hot air balloons taking off while we had the brief was amazing. Starting with small, technical and white sand dunes we had a couple of stucks in the first 300 meters. However a good track adjustment saw us breeding through quickly with very few refusals heading towards the long range dunes. We were welcomed to the long range dunes with a beautiful sand formation. After a few cool pics we took off on dream slopes. Everyone managed well. We had so much fun that it's impossible to state that in words and I doubt that we got any action pics. At times We came across some soft patches, but the best was the "Leap of faith". It was blinding as you head to the top with a light and smooth jump, just enough to give you butterflies in the stomach. We would have loved to continue all day, but with a few more small technical dunes we took the path to the Love Lakes. It was a great break with great food and drinks and some nice chat. Just as the heat of the day was about to kick in we inflated and left. My best moments were seeing @Frederic gelling in with his daughter, I see her growing in confidence and love to see them bond. Cars - researching, buying, driving, fixing, modifying, selling, everything. Off-road - exploring new places, meeting new faces, training others and learning new stuff. Photography - more of ex hobby, as I tend to forget basics if not using the skills often. Biking - if weather permits, really calms me down. Swimming - occasionally now, just had a dip today after a very long time. Music - thumping playlist on long drives especially. Wish list Professional photography on regular basis, if time permits to pursue. Astronomy - if I get good guidance and training locally. Cross country off-road exploration. Hiking - Extreme level.

1) Music. Listening to almost all genres of music since I was a small kid. Unfortunately never had the talent nor the patience to learn to play an instrument. Deejayed for 15+ years for private parties and few years in clubs. 2) Hifi and Sound. Former hobby where i was installing sound systems in cars and houses. 3) DIY repairs. Always have stuff laying around the house to fiddle with or repair. 4) Dogs. Totally in love with my two Salukis and walking them calms me down 5) Offroading with Carnity and camping during winter season. Absolutely love it. Exploring Oman is also part of that. IF I’d have more time and money I’d look into: - Astronomy - Overlanding - Music production - Collecting old cars - Photography

Timing belts don’t settle in. It is a critical engine part. It’s either right or it’s wrong. And I guess in your case the person who fitted it, fitted it wrong. It’s best to go to someone who knows what they are doing and make sure the timing marks are aligned. It will cost you 2 hours labour max. The sooner you fix it the better. I recommend good garages to you on Whatsapp. I don’t know why you didn’t go to them. Too much kandoos yaar? @Gaurav can testify what happens when someone puts a timing belt on wrong. 3 years ago I repaired his pajero. Someone put a timing belt on wrong. Both cams were one tooth out. The engine ended up with bend valves, loss of power and a poot poot doof doof noise. I fixed it. Because I know what I’m doing. Pay small prices, expect small rewards. People avoid me because I charge big. I don’t charge big. I charge what I’m worth. Stupid people who think they know about cars are the bane of my life. They also pay my rent fixing the mistakes they made.

For me my hobbies have to be as follows. 1) Off-roading. 2) 10 pin bowling 3) Cricket 4) coin collection. I have coins which have already been discontinued including AED 5 coins from the 80s, special coins introduced by UAE, Dutch Builders, even some rare coins from the great Roman Empire one of the first forms of currency to be introduced to the world.

I have recently changed my Timing Belt but after the change of belt there is vibration when i m in slow traffic or complete stop which reduces and sometime disappears after some 10-20 Secs. Noticeably vibration is not constant some times there is no vibrations. I went back to mechanic but as per him its will take time for new belt to set in, its been 2 weeks but still same case No vibration noticed while normal drive.

Maybe he is still camping in ruwais...

I think those things are used to control forest fires

Its the whole car , No noise , sometime stable some time vibration but after 10-20 secs it goes way or it disppaers as soon as you start moving I have changed spark plugs as well with timing belt

I’ve never heard about a belt that has to settle in. 🤔 Where do you notice the vibration ? On the steering wheel, the whole car ? Is there a noise that comes with it ? Is the car running fine and stable on idle ?

There are lightweight aluminum floor jacks with double piston lifting system but they make your pocket bleed.... Low profile front end shouldn't be of concern as that is mostly useful for low riding sport cars which here in off roading has no place...

I am also a happy RSA customer. Their rates are good, used them only once for a small incident where my neighbor bumped into my car, and everything was settled professionally and repair was done by a decent workshop that did a wonderful job. Heard good things about Oman Insurance too. I need to renew next month so i will definitely compare them.

Thanks @syedyaseer I have heard same from @Srikumar too that Oman insurance is good as he also has all his personal and commercial vehicles with them to get good rates. I always compare by myself than comparing sites between RSA and AXA premium and close on RSA since last 4-5 years. Btw, I forgot to mention for others, that this refund is on pro-rata basis that means you will get flat premium back for remaining months rather than their own slab system - which has weird percentage calculator that works in insurance company favor than the customer. I used this Insurance for 5 months 24 days and got the 6 months refund incl Vat. That's transparency.

I have a similar experience with Oman Insurance. I get better premiums compare to other provider. I tried to get quote from RSA for my prado too. OIC was around 600 cheaper. I get better deals with OIC may be because im with them since 2013. Taxi bumped into my corolla from rear. Claim was handled very professionally. Cancelled my 1st car policy(UAE) in 2016, refund was processed in 3 working days. It was the same when i cancelled my corolla policy in March this year. Refund amount was in my account on the 3rd day of the request.
