It would be great if the RSVP feature could also include a "waitlist", so that those wishing to join a drive can be automatically added if someone drops out -- according to their position on the waitlist. Marshals can also know exactly how many more people would potentially join the drive, if they were given the opportunity, so that additional convoys can be arranged if possible.

If your pockets allow you can travel to the moon and back. But if you want to spend over 10 - 12k in mods on your existing ride to find out you need even more mods later, it better to buy a cheap car for off-roading and trash it at will. Mechanically anything can go wrong with it in the middle of the desert, are you willing to leave you 200k vehicle overnight to return to it the next day to fix and take it home? If you like the V8 power get an old Nissan Armada or Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition. Just my opinion.

Based on our recent experiences, we have decided to change few things to honor "RESPECT" and equal opportunities for all off-roaders to join and enjoy off-road drives "SAFELY". All off-road drives will be limited to 15 members only. Due to safety in mind, it is very essential that every drive should not exceed the maximum number of 15 cars in the convoy. Drive posted with higher RSVP count will have multiple Marshals to lead their individual convoy not exceeding the 15 cars / convoy. All drives RSVP will close a day prior. All drive RSVP will either close a day prior or once RSVP limit reached, so that Marshals have enough time to plan the route and convoy numbering. Latecomers will be returned back - NO EXCEPTIONS. Every off-roader MUST attend every briefing with 100% undivided attention. If you are late for any reason, please return back and join the next week drive. Reaching the meeting point on time and then refueling, shopping and doing other chores does not mean that you were on time, you will be left behind. All Marshals are instructed to leave the meeting point - without any grace period. So plan your buffer time in advance. You cannot join the drive at deflation point if you are late, simply return back. Marshals are not allowed to take your calls when you are late and hold the convoy because of your delay. Members without RSVP will be returned back - NO EXCEPTIONS. Every offroader need to RSVP the drive that he/she wish to join for safety reasons. Admin will remove all multiple drives RSVP at "same time", please decide to join any one drive. If you were unable to RSVP the drive, it means drive is full and please do not show up on the meeting point. Please withdraw your RSVP, if you aren't joining, so your spot can be taken by others. Repeated no-show members after RSVP will have their account suspended for a month.

OK I have been silently reading this space and holding my temptation to not to spoil your fun or be harsh on your emotions, but keeping all my good man behavior aside, I strongly think you all need to face the truth to get out from a stage of denial. SORRY, in advance guys. Y62 and Y61 are """"""""DIFFERENT"""""""" Animals all together. Please do not compare sofa with a television, they both have different uses. Y61 in a completely stock state can do over 90% of all off-roading you can ever wish to do, provided you learn the real art of offf-roading. Remaining 10% things reserved for motorsport, dune championship and flying from one dune to another dune contenders - usually shown in insta, fb and youtube videos for stunts or for provoking you to empty all your pockets. Y62 with all the possible off-road mods will be at par or lower with Y61 in a stock state, because Y61 has been designed to do almost everything that a normal offroader want based on decades of research and development along with extensive testing in GCC. Now same goes for any dedicated stock offroaders too like FJC, Xterra, Wrangler etc. Now firstly all you Y62 owners ask yourself if you are among 10% or 90% of offroaders. If you are in 10%, then you have a wrong choice of car, look for rally bred homologated vehicle that you can tow in a trailer every Friday and beat her to death on every dune with extreme modifications. If you are in 90%, then focus on learning the off-roading first and then decide to work on real limitation of your Y61 or Y62. Y62 are inherently heavy, so no matter what version you drive with V8 - 400 hp, you are always struggling to manouver a chariot on small ridges, pockets, bumps and sharp dunes. Please IGNORE the biased reviews, police cars and mod company advertisement if you want the real truth, as none of them selling you any truth, they are just selling you a modified cars or mods to make your heavy beast a looker than a real off-roader. Did you know how many mods any country police car has and all of them are not street legal to catch the bad guys or to reach to difficult places. So stop looking at stars and walking on earth, you will damage your toe or a knee. For finding a real truth, next time you visit any good known desert look around and see what percentage of people driving Y62 with or without extreme modifications and you will get an answer. What will I do, If I am in your place. Keep Y62 for family fun, light offroading, camping, beach trip etc. Get 20K-40K AED bone stock used Xterra or FJC or Y61 or Wrangler and learn off-roading first and then spend a single dime after 3-6 months of offroad driving.

With the flight bans coming into force for just about everywhere, I have visions of either ending up MadMax like driving through the desert looking for fresh supplies of fuel or like Will Smith in I am Legend, hunting infected zombies during the day to carry out research on how to cure the virus that wiped us all out. Carnity and 4x4 remains a constant, as to date, the desert has not been closed [crossing my fingers I did not speak too soon]. What's gonna cheer me up, I thought? here's an idea: Which film character are you going to become as everyone in the world becomes increasingly isolated because of Covid 19?

Please don't fall for such reviews. Sure it has it short comings, but these so called automotive reporter's do their reports based on how generous these car companies are to them. They are biased. You can mod a Y61 Patrol much better and cheaper, Nissan just charges you handsomely playing on your fear of what if my car doesn't pass after modifying it. Just keep your modifications to the bear minimum you need. Don't go overboard. My car has passed 3 years in a row, but I only get done what I feel is necessary to do without any extras.

Almost 300 k for another car ...I would rather spend some more and keep my patrol. Except some niggles while off road , it is a wonderful family car

The method for folding the second row Pajero seats is as follows 1. First pull the back rest recliner handle up (on the side of the Pajero seat) so that the reclining gets into default position. 2. Next push the tab (on back of the seat) upwards and in one motion fold the back rest and lift the entire seat. It's actually a technic rather than a problem. I explained the same thing in the below post as well

I'm not an expert on suspension technologies and go much with my user experience. I had a rally bred Aragosta suspension with 18 settings on each wheel. Tried almost every god damn setting and never enjoyed that Patrol on road. On off-road as @treks mentioned at medium hard it was plenty for sand. So as a best rule of thumb, go all options mid way and then go backwards to understand what solves your need better. If you are trying to achieve OEM softness for road comfort then don't waste your time. Off-road suspension are made, shown and advertised splashing sand, jumping dunes as that's what they do the best - except road comfort on tarmac.

Ka is rare in UAE but it’s not exactly a unicorn. Thousands of them in Ireland and UK. Fun car to drive. Like a little go kart.

Good marketing pointers. If it's true then whey after massive sales drop Nissan brought back Y61 after 1-2 year gap. I never mentioned the weight is a constraint, but it might be for sure. It's the host of technological advancement - that scares, fails and disappoint people after spending over 200K. We have had in Carnity drive, Y62 failing to engaging the LO gear and then failing to get back into HI gear, and then eventually I have to winch that Y62 which was running on 2 wheel drive. After self recovering and coming on flat ground after few minute it engage back to HI gear again. Watch it once for fun sake to witness more Range Rovers, Raptor, G63 in the desert - which are far above Y62 price point. I salute and respect Nissan to adapt smart and honest way to sell apple by calling it an apple, rather than a bow and arrow. I assume, they must have tried calling it a bow and arrow but failed miserably so they have learned based on their experience to call an apple an apple. Well let's drive together for a year and then we can revisit these comments again. I had a Range Rover Supercharged with 510 HP and I know very well it's limitation and capabilities alike. It's not the numbers, weight or size always, it's the instant availability of those numbers at a right time. In most modern technological advanced vehicle computers overthink than humans and that's what create lot of differences in the experience what I want and what I end up getting with. Yes @Chaitanya D, you are absolutely right. Y62 is a beautiful vehicle as far as you understand it's limitations and learn to play with those rules, you will enjoy without spending tons on modification.

I am still a beginner but only after starting off road I realised the flaws in y62 - needs some mods, probably high running costs and being heavy etc. But frankly few of my friends in Oman and here who have y62 have not done many mods suggest they did not have any issues. They do fairly regular desert offroading but definitely not jumping dunes etc :-)). Yes one needs to maneuver this car differently unlike the FJ/Wrangler/Xterra /Pajero etc.

The two cars were not independently designed and manufactured by separate engineers; all of Nissan's experience and knowledge through extensive R&D gained through designing the Y61 for over 20 years went into upgrading their flagship offroader to the modern era with the added benefit of technological advancements in automotive engineering. Did you know the weight difference is only 220kg? That's two adults. But with 3 inches of additional ground clearance, several hundred more horsepower and torque, independent suspension, and a host of techological advancements such as hill-descent, hill-start, hydraulic body motion control, active tire pressure monitor system, and a dedicated off-road monitoring system. This is not a fair indicator of Y62's offroad capabilities. The price point makes it difficult for the majority of people to justify it for offroad use. And Nissan's Y62 marketing campaign has mostly focused on luxury, rather than offroad capability, which has influenced people accordingly. I'm a traditionalist more than the next guy, I love the Defender over a Range Rover due to its brute force, simple mechanics, and easy maintenance, but I would never invalidate the engineering accomplishments of its successor.

Sure reviews are biased, but it still doesn't negate some of the facts presented: that you're paying 300k for a car without many options and luxuries which are often found in this price point. And so as you said, the manufacturer is taking the buyer for a ride.

The Gazelle isn't as exciting as it may seem. Have a look at this review that outlines some of its quircks and imperfections. I think a Y62 with unique modifications based on your needs and preferences can be more thrilling and enjoyable. And a modded Y62 is still more versatile than a Gazelle: it can take you to a cocktail party in a tuxedo, or the toughest trails in shorts, and do both with class.

Same body shell as the Sierra XR4i but it was released under the Merkur brand in USA. Ford didn’t want to sell it under the Sierra brand as GMC already had the Sierra pickup. We got them in two tone colour scheme. The big difference with the Merkur is that it came with a turbocharged 4 cylinder 2.3 Pinto as opposed to the XR4i which had a V6 2.8 Cologne which makes it pretty rare. This was my XR4i, Only the XR4i had the split rear quarter light window. Standard 3 door Sierras (including the RS Cosworth) had a one piece window.

4 way is a bit complicated if you have no experience of setting up suspension, it’s a pretty steep learning curve. First you need to understand what it means and what the settings do. You have, Low speed damping. This controls how the suspension compresses in normal use and is used to stop you from bottoming out after a single jump Low speed rebound. This controls how fast the suspension will extend after being compressed in normal use High speed rebound. This controls how fast the suspension will extend after being compressed multiple times, ie if you’re driving over rough ground and bouncing up and down High speed damping control. This controls how fast the suspension compresses after hard impacts, ie bouncing over rocks Like I said, I know nothing about for setting up for off road but for on road, the most simple way to put it is for understeer, make the back harder and the front softer and for oversteer make the back softer and the front harder. It’s just going to be a matter of playing with things until you find something that suits your car and your driving style but if you have half an idea of what the settings do you have a fighting chance.

Sorry for the delayed response. But, school vacations are keeping me busy. 😁 Thanks to @Frederic, for giving me opportunity to drive as second lead. I just did what I observed in my earlier drives. It was a wonderful day and due to the short brief session we hit the sand earlier. @Frederic leading the way and wisely choosing the path, with some adrenaline punches, the drive completed with minimal issues. Also, I agree that this time the convoy felt like a team! Kudos to all!! Hoping to be in the same team again.

Hi Jamy, plan is to exit out before 12 pm and you should be able to make it to Qudra meeting point before 1:30 pm.(Distance is approx 100 km, 1 h 10 mins drive). However, with offroading sometime despite best efforts things don't go as per plan. The choice is yours.

I havent heard of Reese, but they look quite sturdy. Check the rating, that is important and quality of rating printed is with good amount of information and not just 9000000 LB, AMP, PMPO lolol.

I am just going to be me, and try to better myself. time to reflect and time to spend with my family and close friends. We at Carnity are very stubborn bunch of off-roaders always looking for a way through the fence.

@Xaf Thanks and I concur with all your suggestions. I will try to get some more ideas as to how to sort the bumper/suspension/tyre changes for Y62 patrols- most being made in Australia where they do many kind of upgrades/changes which I suppose are not allowed in UAE due to the process of re-registration every year.And there is no clear cut directive as to what can be done not to have any issue while registering the car every year. Another option which strikes to my mind always is instead of making all these expensive changes to a stock nicely equipped car, I go for a cheaper used car and drive it carefree in the desert. I need some suggestions regarding this - Modifications to a Y62 vs buying a used car which can be driven as you like in the desert without worrying much. @Rahimdad, @Gaurav, @Srikumar and @Frederic your inputs will be much appreciated .
