Hi @Lisa Pemberton am not an experts but below are the few things i have done. 1. Rear bumper scooping need to be sorted out in newbie drive itself by fixing a plate to stop scooping the sand. there is a topic available for this solution and advice in Carnity forum. 2. Cleaning the air filter will be better after each drive, because lots of sand will go inside. 3. If you are unplugging the traction and abs switch under the hood for the drive, then when you take the car for service inform the people to blow some air and clean the pug inside the switch, because some sand always will be there inside. 4. Better to trim the lower part of front bumper, because in Pajero if the front bumper hit on the sand, the lower part will bend inside and every time we need pull it back other wise it will touch on the tire. 5. Always checking Coolant, engine oil, transmission oil before the drive. i believe other experts and leaders in Carnity can give you more inputs thank you.

Congrats Doc. Love your passion and the fact that you have been doing two drives every week speaks volumes of the love you have for this sport.

Check the existing space first in your model of Pajero on left side of AC condenser fan. Then check available Spal fan models for 10 or 12 inch with maximum cfm. Once you get the fan, buy the harness, relay and switch too, so that any good electrician in Ajman can fix that fan for you. While fixing that fan, insist on metal bracket as some lazy mechanic tie these with cable ties even. If you get all these by yourself, its better than going to big branded workshop who "TALKS" too much and then fit 100 dhs useless fan for the cost of 500 dhs. This happen with me in my old off-road friend workshop, where they quoted me for HIGH PERFORMANCE, Special Motor fan and eventually fix 600 cfm, 9 inch fan (120 aed), that made no difference in anything.

It was definitely the most challenging drive for me and that is why good for learning. Special thanks to leads @Wrangeld @Rahimdad @Janarthan @Lorenzo Candelpergher for their extreme efforts for any types of recoveries which took longer time than driving under the desert sun! Now it is clear to me that smaller dunes like in al lisali and solar park are a sign of soft sand as we all experienced... Similarly, the big dunes are due to relatively hard ground maybe... @Rahimdad your other drink is ready whenever you are ready! it was our bet to move my pajero more than 1 mm and you won already! I am the man of my word 😄 @asifk I did not know that was your first recovery! It was really a smart solution you found: accelerating the cars standing side by side to tow out!... it is a pity that we didn't record it! That was a good lesson learned from my worst stuck ever. My special thanks to @Wrangeld @Janarthan @marks for their help in such a tormenting recovery (also to all others for their long time waiting...) See you all on the next drive!

Yesterday's drive was one of the best drives I've had so far. Having made 3 climbs on the playground—me and my daughters really enjoyed it. Big thanks to @Gaurav for your generosity in allowing us to play more and leading us to those side sloping thrills. Your calmness and patience in giving instructions really gave us more confidence in braving the different challenges. It was a pleasure being your second lead. Really looking forward to join in our next fewbie drives!

Trip report from my point of view. Firstly I would like to apologize for the 20 minutes delay. But Captain @Wrangeld briefing before take off was enjoyable, I'm glad I didn't miss it. By 5:30 am though we were all ready to move. I'm glad I took @Wrangeld invitation to join this drive, I would not change my mind for any other drive this Friday. There comes a time when as off-roaders we have to learn that for some time on playable long range dunes we have to go through some small technical dunes as well. This Friday drive it was a great learning for everybody to stay on the track as set by the leader, as if you are a bit off your car is going to slide into a really challenging situation. It was also a day to put self recovery learning to practice and I saw so many such feats which made me very proud. @Wrangeld choose the perfect path and gave us loads of opportunities to learn from this trip. Thanks to the wonderful weather he even extended the time of the drive to allow everyone more time at learning even though he had a drive to support in the afternoon. @Lorenzo Candelpergher surprised me with the ease with which he manuevered his beast. I would have never thought I'd see the day when I'd see a Y62 do so well in those small technical dunes, but I have had a change of heart now. I believe the advise for the gears also came from @Wrangeld and @Frederic, put to great use. So yes driver wins. @Jolly Abraham has been one to teach me that a 2.7 litre 4 cylinder is also a Toyota and still capable as long as it's in the right hands. My thanks to him for joining me for a recce trip to find a quick exit. Just needed one tug while attacking a front face as I did not want to create multiple tracks to confuse anyone. Quick Learning as the next front fave was even steeper but he managed well. @Yousef Alimadadi is learning real fast. I believe he is the master of self recoveries and I feel very proud to see him grow and do so well. @RohanH is very patient and follows instructions well. Just see some hesitation at times, and experimenting at times. Although some experiments don't work well, but every stuck and refusal teaches you a valuable lesson and seems you are on the right track. @Shiju Manuel is always in the right spirit and the right frame of mind. I'm sure as he grows in experience he will make a great off-roader. @asifk maybe it's the name. I have lots of respect for the name @Asif Hussain. But I have seen glimpse of brilliance at a very early stage. Really love the calmness with which he handles situations and is a very strong and helpful character. I'm sure @asifk growth in this sport will be just as remarkable as @Asif Hussain and just waiting to drive with him time and time again. @marks just stopped to surprise me. Sure he has an FJ, but he is not the only one with an FJ. He has shown week after week that off-roading is in his DNA. Very capable but quiet individual who nobody notices since he quietly slips under the radar. @Nizam Deen another quiet individual. Still work in progress. Still learning. But largely on the right track, coming out week after week and learning and putting our teachings in practice. Love the cool and calm nature, follows instructions well and wants to watch and learn. Very keen learner and should start seeing some real goid changes real soon. @Mehmet Volga keeps things interesting. He accepts whatever comes his way with a huge smile and lit of enthusiasm. Trying to learn and grow within the Carnity structure at his own pace and not phased out by challenges faced by him. Lovely personality and has offers to put smile to anyone's face. Thanks for offering the energetic orange juice, but I'll be waiting for my other drink. @Janarthan what a pleasure knowing you were in sweep and out to help me with my duties to keep the convoy moving. At one point there was some exhaustion, but you never showed it and kept your energy up throughout the drive. Recommendable trait to follow. Off-roader are tough, but everyone can get through with some help, I'm so glad that I had you for help. @Wrangeld love your lead. You never want to take the lead in an easy area. Always finding areas where you can challenge yourself and develop everyone in the most complete manner safely. You did it again. You found the best track, in the best area with wonderful weather. Hats off to you. This is what @Gaurav bhai promised me in developing new leaders. A different flavour every time. I love the @Wrangeld flavour and difficult to think any one in Carnity now who would reach your flavour. Hope you got some rest before the afternoon drive support. I do once in a week body wash + and just water clean inside the engine bay due to lot of sand inside since started driving in desert. And I do full wash ( lift the car and doing the complete wash underneath) once in a month.

Jeep life My Jeep was the same it was getting washed by mechanic only. It was going frequent enough to garage i wasn't need to get it washed. @topgear I guess you should get your car washed every 2 weeks. It depends also how dirty it is. In the area i am living lots of construction going on so car is getting dirty quickly. Before i was living in Marina having fully closed parking space. I needed to wash the car only once a month. Also don`t forget to get under wash time to time. Its good to remove all the dirt and mud under the car.

My jeep gets cleaned by the garage whenever it goes for a service. Other than that ... never. Having said that, it's a Jeep, so that could be a weekly wash some times 😂 Personally, I am a believer in the theory that the most important bits of the car to clean and maintain are the insides (mechanically). Your car is highly unlikely to suffer from rust here and sand is not as damaging to the vehicle as the salt deposits with which they spray the roads in Europe. As you have an FJ you probably drive with the airco on and windows closed - so the dust inside your car is probably just that and I can imagine you would like to clear it out from time to time. Again, the garage does vacuum the car when it is serviced but frankly a week out in the dunes and they might as well not have bothered. It's a big advantage that the car is not my daily driver. If it was, I would probably be cleaning it every two to three weeks (which sadly and strangely is just about the regularity it's been in the garage recently ...)

Hi Lisa I am driving a Pajero and for oil change, I recommend Shell, Castrol or Mobil one. Be careful with the gas station brands. Welcome to the Pajero club 😜

Google code and check on spal or amazon site it clearly says puller / pusher / with CFM Adding fan is the best, but its down and due to its weird location its not very easy to add fan. You can increase the air ventilation by moving that cooler little up, right behind the front grill. @Shiju Manuel here is my fan current setup Additional 10 Inch Spal Fan - Pusher - 844 CFM (va11ap7/c-57s) Next to AC Condenser fan 9 Inch Engine Oil Cooler Failed experiment, to replace the Pajero stock AC Condensor (12 Inch) fan is a paddle blade that throws more air than 12 Inch Spal, pusher - 938 CFM (va10-ap10/c-61s). So revert to stock, after this failed experiment. I tried all these numbers with @Frederic Anemometer and settle with stock AC condenser fan + one 10 Inch fan.

It was the longest drive I’ve ever done but what an amazing opportunity to get more in tune with my Pajero on these technical dunes, and opportunity to learn new skills from the leads and fellow drivers. Thanks for a great experience @Wrangeld and advice @Rahimdad. For me the highlight was the difficult stuck for @Mehmet Volga where many of us had to put in some proper muscle to dig out his pajero and gave me the chance for my first recovery with carnity, and that too on a very difficult spot. With @marks, @Mehmet Volga and I working together and @Wrangeld guiding us, we managed to pull him out after a couple of false starts. I had to have a proper nap in the afternoon, but was a great experience, thanks all ! Will put some pics in the gallery.

Yes, I feel make it direct and turn it on only when offroading. The radiator fan is a clutch fan whose speed is controlled by the engine temperature, whereas what you are referring is for the AT cooler. Two different things.

Trip Report @Remco Snoek @Pancho thanks for joining the drive on this lovely morning didn't feel like we are in middle of summer season. We all reached on time at meeting point and it was still dark. Deflated, flags raised and waited for first appearance of light in the sky. It was a super sweet convoy with only 3 cars. Remco snoek was in second place and Pancho as sweep. Khatim area is totally new for me and this was my second drive. This area has small to medium size dune and it is a perfect place to learn for newbies and fewbies. @Remco Snoek with his 2.7ltr V4 fortuner was not confident to do sideys in some of the dunes, he is to skip it or exit early. I really liked the way you drove by not attempting were you are not confident and pancho with his wrangler followed all my track precisely. We finished our drive near some good set of medium sizes dunes where we played and circled for 30min and exited on time. See you all soon and will explore some new area. VID_20200725180512.mp4

Indeed. I don’t believe in killing something unless you’re going to eat it. Chasing it for fun is even worse. It’s tantamount to torture. Even then it should be killed humanely as possible. Even cockroaches I try to catch and put it outside. But, some people aren’t capable of empathy. It’s sad but that’s the way the world is.

Nope I didn’t touch it but I would love to know the diagnostic process they followed to come to the conclusion that the PCM is faulty. Not saying it isn’t faulty but I would be even more interested to hear how this happened from a simple radiator change. My guess is that somehow or other the mechanic managed to short something out. Maybe working on the car with the ignition turned on and touched a metal tool somewhere it wasn’t supposed to touch. Who knows, it’s just speculation. @syed salman raza Any chance you could post a copy of the diagnostic report for us to analyse? Mechanic should have given you one. @Frederic that’s a good topic to discuss. I’ve heard a lot of different opinions from a lot of different welders on it. Some say it’s ok, some say you will fry the battery, some say even if you disconnect both battery terminals the PCM is still connected to the frame by a metal bolt so it will still get spiked. I’ve been working on cars for many years but I don’t like to make experiments with other peoples cars so I can’t answer to these different situations. One welder friend told me once to leave the battery connected and put a protection device on the battery terminals. I bought one and I’ve always done that and never had any issues welding on a car. But who knows, welding isn’t one of my strong points.
