Boy, was I nervous this morning when I woke up .... I was not sure I could lead a convoy through the desert, especially Lisaili. But after a talk with @Rahimdad where he assured me that if I was not feeling comfortable, I didn't have to lead. So we head off with @Rahimdad in the lead. First through some smaller dunes but we soon reached the nice long rolling dunes and I felt so happy and confident that I maybe could take the lead after all. After a few weeks of supporting AN and newbie drives, I really needed to stretch my legs and have some adrenaline going through my body. The long dunes in Lisaili are so much fun and I enjoyed them a lot ! I almost forgot I had a convoy behind me 😊 I want to thank @Rahimdad for giving me the opportunity to lead today and @Gaurav for the leaders leads I could join and of course my hubby @Frederic for always standing behind me and teaching me everything I know. See you all soon back in the sand !

The Unexpected Newbie Lead The Carnity Pink Rockers received a surprise this morning, hearing that instead of Gaurav leading the drive, I would have that pleasure. And a pleasure it was. A large convoy of enthusiastic drivers, weather finally no longer hotter than the sun and the confidence that no matter what might happen on the convoy, the Master @Gaurav was on hand, with @Mohamed Seidam ably supporting. The end of the summer has brought back more drivers to the dunes and the popularity of Pink Rock brought out multiple convoys this morning. I was starting to think that club flags should be color coded so we can keep track when all the other drivers arrive. Either way, looking for a virgin route was a great challenge, and one we more or less achieved. What did I take away from the drive? That leading Newbie drives is harder than leading more experienced drivers. The margin for error is much smaller and tighter. A crossing that looks simple causes a real challenge for a Newbie. And.... you still need to make the drive suficiently challenging so that every driver can take something away from the experience. Thanks, everyone for your patience today. TRIP REPORT Amazing is the word that describes the drive today. After a few months of doing Newbie drives it was refreshing for me to catch up with some familiar faces at this higher level. Everyone reached well ahead of time and deflating getting ready for an area which is challenging. Unfortunately @Franco Swart was not feeling well and had to go back after deflation. Really felt bad and hope we can catch up again soon. We had a slight issue with @Vanessa8580 Pajero at start which was quickly sorted out, but it proved that she is stronger than Superman. ☹️ So it was time to head to the desert and it was a lovely entry point with some lovely rolling dunes as we slipped, slides and manuevered our way through to some technical small dunes. I was pleasantly surprised to see everyone manage so well. As we quickly headed to some nice wide open dunes. The plan was simply to enjoy and take us as our heart desired. At this point @Vanessa8580 was itching to take the lead, and take the lead she did. As per the reaction of everyone on the drive was well matched with @Vanessa8580 enthusiasm as we rode the ridges, did endless sideys and criss crossed to give a feel to everyone of the next level close at hand. Everyone managed well and enjoyed the roller coaster @Vanessa8580 put us through. As she had her fill and decided to hand back the lead to me I lead the convoy through some testing terrain. At one point we had some really challenging small technical dunes, but everyone did well to cross the terrain and shortly we were on our own track heading out. I would like to thank @Vanessa8580 for being not only my second lead, but taking centre stage for leading us through some awesome dunes. @marks deserves a big round of applause as he contacted me to help during the drive. He was given centre forward position which he did so well. The 3 tugs required were very controlled and he did well to learn with a lot of patience. He managed all recoveries well and he is the hero of the day for me. @Rizwanm2 is a wonderful sweep and with the Xterra has found a new level of confidence. He did so well to sweep and keep the convoy moving. @Ali Abas Ali with his 4 Runner showed that Toyota's are capable, at one point I tried to help out and it was great to know how well he knows his car. @Ajiesh George Kannankara did so well with his Nissan Patrol Y62. At one point we had to make sure his drone shoot was without anyone outside the car to abide by the covid restrictions. @Hennie Schoeman was wonderful with his Wrangler and managed all challenges with a smile. @marks was on the top of his game and his helping hand during the drive made sure we had a smooth drive with no major delays. We had our Wrangler boys with @Rajeevan Vickneswaran, who realized that his tire pressure gauge was not accurate and agreed to change it or get an additional one and make sure it's working well. @h1fny (Craig) who soon forgave me for not calling out his name in the morning while checking our radios. Craig managed the terrain as if he was in his back yard, however had a smile of satisfaction knowing we had handled various terrains in one day. @Shaaz Sha always growing in confidence. Last time I saw him at newbie level and he did not fail to impress me. @Nabil Bishara shy and quiet, but quietly gaining mire and more confidence and knowledge. Time for you to shine, looking forward to hearing from you more often. At sweep we had @Rizwanm2 who handled the convoy with utmost care and made sure I was well aware of the convoy movement at all times. I really enjoyed myself and would like to thank a brilliant crowd today, with a heavy heart for the effort made by @Franco Swart and looking for an opportunity to ride with him in the near future. It was my second drive with rahim bhai and as usual you were just superb👍👍 in leading all of us through tough terrains , and today we could see some of ur superman effects recoveries 🤩 . And special mentions to @Vanessa8580 @Rahimdad for those thrilling side slopes !! enjoyed it . Hats off to the work of @marks coz though we had some stuck and refusals ,his recovery talents made it all go well 👏👏👏👏 and finally not b forgotten @Rizwanm2 at sweeping position keeping the convoy moving. DRIVE REPORT How i missed these cool morning, where the sun starts peeping through the sky and you the beautiful Qudra dunes await. The whole team arrived on time and was eager to hit the sand and enjoy the scenery. @Tariq Niyas was my second lead with the Montero Sport and drive wonderfully well ! @Arshad Roojee we did not see you today. Hope everything is ok and we can see you joining the next drive. @Mahmoud Asar you were enjoying the drive with the open sunroof and drove perfect. Well done ! @RAKIN KURIAKOSE the big Pathfinder is maybe not the easiest car to take offroading, but you managed it very well ! @Lukas Lewis brought a very nice Ford Explorer and i hope you are your son had fun. You did great ! @DANIEL NOGUEIRA you look like the kind of person that easily grabs a challenge with a smile. You took the Dodge through every dune without a hiccup ! Nice ! @Aravind Padmaraju The Xterra is the perfect toy for weekly stress relief. Your friends from the club will agree Well driven ! @[email protected] Very well driven. DRIVE REPORT Today was a special drive as we had decided to share the lead with my old friend @sertac, with whom I started off-roading when Carnity was still a small club - at that time Sertac was still driving his beloved XJ, before he betrayed the Jeep faith by buying an Xterra... Everyone arrived on time, except @Islam Soliman who had an unfortunate alarm incident. I had to take a difficult decision: to start without waiting for him so that the convoy won't miss the best part of the day. After deflation and a very quick briefing, we were off with @sertac on lead, myself in second and @Biju Abdul in sweep. Sertac managed to cross with the utmost ease the technical area between our entry point and the first high dunes of Badayer, with only one little cresting from @asifk - a good opportunity for @Jun Zamora to work on his recovery skills. I was quite impressed by Sertac's ability to build the pace and difficulty gradually, in order to feel the convoy response, before we reached the first climbs. Unfortunately, at one point, Asif had a refusal and found himself on a soft patch were he had to engage 4 low and deflate more to get out, but with a transmission overheating. In spite of a 10-15 mn break, the transmission light was still on, so we decided together to exit him on the road. Back out of the track, we enjoyed a nice and smooth drive in middle to high dunes before I took the lead to heading to Iftar bowl, with @Christian Andras as second - very well done and thank you Christian. A few stops for another Pajero overheating, @Mehmet Volga‘s, few refusals and stucks here and there. We reached Iftar Bowl, but unfortunately I was the only one who got a chance to climb it, because in less than one minute, 2 or 3 other convoys arrived. It was so crowded that we decided to leave it for another time. We headed to Superbowl area were we had a little fun... and a little pop out for @Biju Abdul, fixed in 5 minutes by Sertac. Very well done everyone, and hats off to @Jeandre Bezuidenhout, @Gregory Perkin, @Mehmet Volgaand @Christian Andras who didn’t have a single refusal, I guess.

Hello desert wanderers As we are entering October the morning weather is turning cooler and the sand become much crispy and cracking under the wheels of our vehicles like a biscuit cracker softly grinded leaving a unique track that can be traced by the sweeper! Being in the Sweep position it felt like a Goalkeeper who should keep an eye not only on the ball "( convoy )'direction, but more to predict how and where goes to the best he can as our yard is not flat and to give relevant feedback to the captain and other players in the game. Yet and when appropriate even can pass through when needed and safe. today i was blessed by @Gauravand @Wrangeld helping keeping my "goal" clean . I would like to thank all drivers today for coming to enjoy and learn as my self always do! Dear Desertnauts. I hope none of you is yet fed up with driving in the desert this weekend. One more drive awaits us, and it's an absolute novelty in the Carnity menu. We'll be visiting the area that surrounds one of the Royal villas, starting from Skydive Dubai's parking lot, directing ourselves north through a stretch of open dunes, toward a play area just next to the village of Margham, then we'll double back west toward the eventual exit point, just facing Lisaili (on the other side of the highway). All of the drive (except one play area) is barely charted (only driven once), so this will be essentially an exploration drive. The convoy order will be the following: @Chaitanya D as my Second Lead @Islam Soliman's Yukon at #3 @Hatim Patharia will take #4 @andy_macdxb at #5 @tcarrimjee will be #6 @Anish S will be Center Forward @Tero Vallas will follow at #8 @Kailas will cover the #9 spot @Jeandre Bezuidenhout will wear #10 @Biju Abdul will take position #11, and @Foxtrot Oscar will Sweep the group. Please be at the meeting and inflation point as punctual as possible (being early has become many drivers' good habit), at 6:00AM sharp, tuned into Carnity Channel 1 (446.006) Please be advised that to reach the meeting point you should follow the signs, through an underpass below the highway, and past a roundabout just beyond the tunnel's exit. DRIVE RSVP IS NOW CLOSED (4:30PM) Dear Carnitees, The long range dunes in Faqa, followed by some small technical areas, and maybe a little visit to "Little Sweihan" is on our drive plan coming Friday. @Tamas Hoffmann will be my second lead. As @Brette is now eligible to lead a portion of Fewbie drives, he will be in Center Forward position and take over the lead whenever he is comfortable of doing so. Again sorry @Islam Soliman, we missed you this morning, but with the ETA you sent plus time to deflate, it would have delayed our drive too much.

You have to have deep pockets to maintain any Jeep. @sertac should be able to relay his experience. @Gaurav bhai can add his experience hear too. Old Jeeps look good at a price point, but will empty your pockets very soon no matter how good a shape they are in.

@Wrangeld it's always the greatest pleasure to read any of your material including trip reports as it creates a very vivid picture in mind. Today I got more engrossed reading @Mohamed Seidam report as it felt like a beautiful poetry. However it felt like a foot ball match where @Mohamed Seidam was the goal keeper and @Gaurav bhai and @Wrangeld were the defenders.

The 3.5 SWB is also good, but from intermediate level will need to pushed harder and you’ll have less power margin. The 3.8 has enough margin and eventually will run a bit cooler. @Wrangeld has recently bought a 3.8 and also did test a 3.5 and might be able to tell you the difference.

Hi @Gaurav I have short listed some pajeros but i need your guidance to understand that how much is the gain i will have in 3.8 over 3.5. because i was doing cost vs gain analysis between 3.5 to 3.8. the question in my mind is that How much important is to have 3.8L engine? bkx i found some good deals on 3.5 with full options but i am not touching them and only searching for 3.8L.
